Are they into Soundgarden? Do you sit and talk about Soundgarden for ages? Because I am a one off Soundgarden fan in my circle of friends and it really gets on my nerves that I can't sit and just talk Soundgarden. Is everyone else like me or do you have friends with taste? My friends try to put me onto Led Zepellin!!!! God, I can't stand that band. I know if they weren't around Soundgarden wouldn't be the same but personally, I hate them. I'll be interested to hear your responses. Mike ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------ I'm sitting in a magic hat, With smoke and mirrors. I love the album, Down on the Upside and Badmotorfinger as well. Yes, Louder Than Love isn't my fav album. In fact it's the one I like the least. But that doesn't mean there aren't any good songs on it. Gun, Power Trip, Loud Love, Full on (Reprise) they're all great. Hell, the intro on Hands All Over a simply fantastic! I also like the loose tone on the album. (Full On Kevin's Mom, Big Dumb Sex and Full On (Reprise)) Especially the end on Full On (Reprise) makes me smile (you know, when Hiro, I believe, goes nanananana). However I don't dislike earlier SG stuff. I love SL/Fopp and UMOK. Entering and Mood For Trouble are on my top 10 list. And just guess which song my fav quote is from. >I feel there is a definite trend in the series of albums and it goes in >twos'. 1.Screaming Life/Fopp and Ultramega OK > 2.Louder Than Love and Badmotorfinger > 3.Superunknown and Down On the Upside > >I'm more of a group #2 person myself, leaning towards the earlier >material, but then that's only my opinion. > >Anyone else?? I have to agree with you on that one, Ben's most definitely more musical than Hiro. I read in a magazine transcription of Ben's bass in a song (I'm not sure, but I think it was BUTOW, it doesn't really matter) that if you wanted a killer riff, just play the basic stuff. But if you wanted a powerful rock-ballad, you just played the more advanced stuff. Now how many bass-players have received a compliment like that? >I also think that ben's song-writing is much more creative and >emotive than hiro's, case in point being 'head down' or 'down undershoe' >versus anything you can find on _kid coma_. Here I disagree with you. There's no way of telling which song is written by who on "Kid Coma" (they all write), so it's kinda difficult to find an example that proves my opinion. However many songs on "Kid Coma" have just as great lyrics as "Head down" or "Down undershoe" (IMHO). Just check out the lyrics on "Blue Flame Ford", "Leslie's Coughing Up Blood", "Hurricane Dance" and "Virtually" Andy "Fill your head with crazy sounds" ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 12 Jun 1997 08:41:12 -0400 From: Jamesetta Simpson Subject: Re: Art Influence >Jen Grover wrote: > I have, however, done two collages in the past >year for myself-- a paper collage of Ben playing, based on Motorvision, >and a collage of various objects relating to the Fairfax show I attended > Whenever I look at that Fairfax collage it brings back the >mood of that day. Surely being a fan that long you've heard these songs. I think LTL is just a good as any Soundgarden album and has those those killer early Chris vocals. I love how he sang when he was in his 20's as much or more than they way he sings now. Ever notice how his voice got deeper on BMF? And before that it was higher? It was just cuz he was younger. Shit, weve watched these guys grow up basically. Theyve done this about all of their adult lives. We can just tell by the sound of his voice about how old he was, or what year it was this song was done. Thats so cool. It definitely is not my favorite one, but it has some songs on it that are among my favorites that Soundgarden has ever done. Some of my friends I play music with like them and some of my friends I go places with like them but only two guys at school really like 'em.
