I've been on the list since November 95. It was the first thing I found when I went online at work (now I have an account at home) and I thought it was so exciting. It was like a family or something--I still haven't quite been able to put into words how cyberspace links us all. Sure, things annoyed me, like when I'd post info from Silver Management and it got ignored. I figured, well, they'd rather run rumors into the ground, ok, fine. Year 2....things began to fall apart. Little stuff at first, then I noticed a trend. Someone would post something or, the gods forbid, ask a question, and that was sure to draw the ire of at least one member. I'd go on and say hey, this is all about Sgarden, can't we all just get along, etc. As time went along, tho, it got to the point where almost everything was drawing rude, snide remarks from a certain member. I warned the list that we did not need that sort of reputation, but it went ignored. What I had warned about happened a few times too--newbies came on, asked questions or offered some sort of commentary, and got blasted. Some left immediately, some tried to stand up for themselves, got blasted, etc, you get the idea how the cycle went. And a few brave newbies said they were leaving b/c of how they got treated. Well, congrats to she who rules the list w/ such an iron hand--you got what you wanted--a bnad rep for yourself and for the list. A list that used to be such a wonderful place to just sit and discuss anything Sgarden. God fobid anyone ask a question tho,; if you're a Sgarden fan, you're supposed to be born knowing it all, I guess. That has been the attitude lately. What is up w/ the list these days? Can any of us answer that? I'm sure we can offer suggestions. The band is gone, we may feel a little adrift. In the past I've seen the cycles--we get along, then we start sniping at each other. The stuff w/ Seth is your own opinion, and it just depends on who you know. So my question is this: Do we still want a list? Is it going to be a place to discuss Sgarden and anything related, or is it going to fall apart and die? The number of posts has declined sharply and there are days I wonder what's up. Everyone is pointing fingers at this point, myself included. SOMETHING went wrong and we're all to blame. Now....what do we do about it? ciao....deb ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 9 Jun 1997 09:11:53 -0400 From: Julia Rosselli Subject: Sg article I found that the August '97 issue of Live Wire has coverage on the break-up. well, that is if you can call it coverage -- 3 sentences and a photo. Actually, I guess I have to correct myself--it's just SOMMS related. A friend of mine told me a few days ago that one of the guitar magazines (Guitar Player or something like that) has quotes from the list regarding the breakup. I thought it was strange that no one on the list had mentioned it. Anybody seen or heard about this? She couldn't remember which one, she said she thought it had Stevie Ray Vaughn on the cover. When no one really dared to insult Seth, out of courtesy for what he does, even if they weren't that fond of some things he did. When I was so excited I'd shake just to download the digest... things were real then. =) and I'd like to apologize to all. sometimes I don't always post about Soundgarden's music. most of my posts are extremely silly. but, hell, I'm a true hootchie at heart. I learned from the best, and YES, I'm kissing Shroom's ass, if y'all have a problem, fine, but she's one of the greatest people I know. anyway, the point being (sorry to go off on a tangent... ;-), I think that if we want to have this list become something even remotely as it used to be, well then, I think we need to be a little less touchy, and a lot more appreciative. I don't know if you all realize what you have here. before I found the site and this mailing list, I was probably the dumbest of all Soundgarden fans. I fell blindly in love w/ the band, and didn't know a thing. You all.... some have left... but you all helped in shaping what I consider to be one of the most knowledgable, and devoted Soundgarden fans around. that's not a brag, it's how I hope to become. I feel so close to Soundgarden on this list. and sometimes, like now, I post even though I probably shouldn't, b/c this list is still so awesome to me (take the word apart-- awe and some.... meaning, I'm amazed that something so cool exists...) that I want to be apart of it. even if it makes me seem like I want to be in w/ the "popular" crowd. not everyone on here is perfect, but for the most part, I think we're all pretty much civil to each other. as I've said before, and so has many people, if we concentrated on our "in commons", our "differences" wouldn't mean as much. Remember, we all love Soundgarden. I know certain, wacked out people drive us insane, and we want to flame them to hell and beyond, but relationships are a two way street. you have to give what you want in return, and that, especially on this list, means respect. If someone has an "attitude" on this list, ignore it, and they usually won't use it on you. I have not once been flamed. Probably b/c of two reasons: I make it my goal in life to avoid enemies; why do I want someone to hate me? that's preposterous. And the other reason- usually, unlike this time, I write out my feelings, act like I'm gonna send it, then save it in my folder. I have about eight letters that I haven't sent to the list. why? b/c they are pure venting letters. and nobody really wants to hear anyone else vent on and on.... heh.... just like I'm doing now..... sorry!! well here's the quick sum up (I'll try to be brief... right!): 1. we all love soundgarden 2. we are all human 3. everyone has different opinions 4. try being nice, even if it kills you 5. nothings wrong w/ showing some appreciation and respect for people who give you things and provide information for you that you wouldn't otherwise have. 6. try to be objective 7. just chill. maybe it's sappy and boring, but we can all get along. bite your tongue when you want to rage, and always keep in mind, that you aren't the only one. there are others out there, show some respect. I'm sorry to have busted up like that, sommsters. but, I really love this list, and I don't want to see it die. let's get it back to the way it was a couple of days ago- disscussing lyric boo boos and such! that was fun... and please read this objectively. I'm not trying to insult a soul. =) btw...... I'm really curious about that SOMMS quote! If anyone has it, or has read it, or even knows exactly what issue it's in. either email me, or post.... or quote the text... thanks! I love you all!! I really do! "This next song's called I love you, and I most certainly do!" "Remember I love you, love you" love, lissa =) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 9 Jun 1997 15:04:00 -0500 From: "Viray, Rachelle" Subject: double pedal kick? I just got a book the other day called, New Metal Crown-Soundgarden. By Chris Nickson. I was wondering if any of you have read this book, and if so, what you thought of it. I'll give you all a review, when I'm finished. I'm really glad that Ben sings for a band, that's great. Ever since I heard him sing Head down and Half I've loved his voice, unfortunately I wasn't able to catch mccaw's show. =( It's just great that Ben's taking one of his many talents to a higher level. I think he wants to be known for that, because he is so good, why the hell would he need a double pedal. I believe that one of his floor toms is tuned exactly the same as his bass drum, so he can do really fast rolls and fills that sound like he is using a double pedal. Peace.
