On the lyric sheet, the last line reads 'Thank you, good night people'. I have a fairly decent set of headphones andI haven't gone completely deaf from cranking up the volume to eleven over the years, but I can't actually hear Chris sing/say this. Has anyone else heard it? Or is it simply a case (as sometimes happens) of the recorded version varying slightly from the way he wrote it down? UKDeb ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 6 Jun 1997 00:06:15 -0700 From: Tiffany Saint Subject: Rumors and Mistaken Words **Disclaimer** This is just what some DJ said, and is unconfirmed. Today my local so-called "alternative" station announced that "Chris Cornell will have some music on the soundtrack for an upcoming Robert DeNiro movie." When I called to ask the DJ what his source for that rumor was, it was in the middle of a contest and he wouldn't let me ask a question. I tried to call back later but noone would pick up. Here are some of the things I thought I heard Chris sing when I first heard the song: Mind Riot: "I was tight-rope walking in two-tone shoes" "I built an ovation from his bones" Outshined: "I got up feeling so down, I got off feeling slowed down" Spoonman: "Come on block it off, come on knock it off" Like Suicide: "She loved like murder" Somewhere: "On roses for a bed, in the laps of love From the likes of her, to the time of need" "I'll beware no longer, I'm allowed to be" Later, Tiffany /\/\^^/\/\ VC ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 6 Jun 1997 11:03:20 -0500 From: Tamara Easter Subject: ooofah somone mentioned "take the river down to stillwater" in a post..and i had that same reaction because there is a town somewhere around here called stillwater and i kept thinking, 'is soundgarden a local band?' HAH! another great misheard quote comes from power trip: my friend was thinking that he was singing "i wanna be gay" hehe that's cool hmm i wanna donut..im gonna go now ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 6 Jun 1997 10:49:35 -0400 From: Marsinay Smith Subject: Re: More Mixed up lyrics --and in Spoonman *I* always thought he was saying, "C'mon lock it up..." interesting...so far it seems that the main songs that were lyric-misinterpreted were: Spoonman, Rusty Cage, Outshined, and Burden in my Hand. Any others? (See, Soundgarden can be such a lucky band to love sometimes!!! ;-) #2 : The current issue of Hit Parader has a 2 page artical covering SG. It's the July issue, it has Marylin Manson on the cover (yeah, I thought the same thing! =) #3 : Hit Parder loves SG (I mean really loves them!) so order some back issues if you get some time, they're in the back of the magazine. (Like every issue has them featured! :) #4 : SPIN finally made their cover of SG and their breakup. Very late in my opinon. Infact, it could've been a way better article. It's not even a whole page! There's pictures of other people on there that take up space. I'm very mad at SPIN now. Aw well. #5 : Ok, I think this is my last one, if you missed any issues with SG in them (of just about ANY magazine) e-mail me for a listing of prices and an address you can order them from. It's a mailing place that, for some reason, sells back issues also (don't ask me, I'm just thankful they do! :-) Well, Ok, I rambled way to much here, I'll make my future postings smaller, and I promise I'll try and find something more interesting to say! :* "Red slicker red slicker red slicker....I want it, I want it!" - CC (Garden of Souls) Toni =) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 6 Jun 1997 13:43:01 -0500 From: Barbarba Strong Subject: So I'm not the only one!?? I swear to god everytime I read SG lyrics and find out I was wrong about what I thought I was hearing, I feel like a dumb ass. After three days of reading what everyone else has mistaken, I don't feel so bad!! As far as hearing little noises like UPS trucks and ringing telephones, many a time have I been blaring BMF in my car and thought I heard my beeper go off or someone honking a horn at me. For the longest time when I heard Somewhere In My Dreams (which is one of my favorite songs), I thought Chris was saying "running from the dead" instead of "roses for the dead". There are tons more, but of course I can't think of them right now. By the time DOTU came out, I had learned my lesson and just started reading the lyrics while the songs were playing. Peace and Love Barb Oh wait, I just thought of one more, in S&B, I thought Chris was saying "everything I have is what I feed" instead of "everything I've held is what I've freed" ... That whole song pretty much confused me the first time I heard it. Silly girl. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 6 Jun 1997 14:26:54 -0500 From: Richard E Horner Subject: Mixed up lyrics I used to think in Mind Riot that Chris sang "I built another Vader from his bones" and the thing in Head Down does sound like "Head high you've got to smile" RIch ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 6 Jun 1997 12:32:15 -0700 From: Caryn Rose Subject: *ahem* i'm sure i'll get thrown off the list once and for all for this one, but i just couldn't resist: would all of you please join me in wishing our humble listadmin a hearty congratulations on his triumphant graduation from the Massachusettes Institute of Technology today! ya know, we considered various forms of embarass... erm, felicitations, and hey, the day is STILL young over here on the west coast. any or all of them could still happen. =) --caryn ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 6 Jun 1997 17:37:06 -0400 From: Rebekah Henderson Subject: Re: *ahem* CONGRATULATIONS SETH!!!!!!!!!!! I think that I also here something similar in Superunknown mostly when I'm listening to my walkman walking home from uni, a I'm always turning around thinking that my Dads truck is driving up behind me. I think that it is possible that I have the worst stupid misinterpretation: Pretty noose I thought at one point that it was "I cut the lawn today, pick it up and throw it away alright" this was before I got the album I read it and thought that makes much more sense. Another one to do with PN I also thought that it was "pretty noose is pretty pink" which have to admit was strange. And another just to prove that it may even be genetic my brother for ages thought it was pretty nose but that's more likely due to his stupidity and nothing more.
