I wasn't aware there was going to be one. much like the other singles taken from _down on the upside_, 'butow' was divided into two parts in europe, the second disc released as the single here in australia. the various b-sides (most stinky, imho) include moby's remix of 'dusty', live versions of 'gun' and 'get on the snake' and the instrumental 'a slice of space jam'. > Also, I saw a picture at sgi of an album cover labeled "Room A Thousand > Years Wide, H.I.V. Baby" that had a SUB POP label but with Ben in the > picture. When was this released? I thought Soundgarden had severed all the 'room a thousand years wide' single was released in 1990, after _louder than love_ was released but before _badmotorfinger_ was finished (or sessions had even begun, possibly). by that point hiro had left the band to pursue other interests and ben had replaced him. while under contract to a&m, the band decided to record this song and 'hiv baby' for subpop as a "single of the month" release. for more detailed information, try the url below: www.sgi.net/soundgarden/songs/9611 for anyone who read this far, the very late sotw will be in your inbox tomorrow or the day after. ----------------------------------------------- in your real life, treat it like it's special in your real life, try to be more kind in your real life, think of those that love you in this real life, try to be less blind words by vernon reid ---------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 3 Jun 1997 01:20:34 -0700 From: "V. Anselmo" Subject: yet another use for duct tape... At The Rollins Band show at The Moore in Seattle this past Sunday, Henry Rollins treated his audience to a synopsis of the first time he saw SG in concert. Of course, Henry began his story by expressing how saddened he was by the news of SG disbanding. And, as would be expected, the Seattle audience remained indifferent to any mention of the breakup. Henry was briefly confused by the unexpected cold shoulder reaction to his words. But this is Henry Rollins were talking about - one of the most perceptive human beings on the planet. He looked the audience over and said, "I guess living in the same town, it's probably like (in a catty voice), 'Well, the last time I ran into him he didn't answer my question, and he didn't want to talk to me, and he wouldn't..., and he didn't..." Whine, whine, whine. Anyway, Henry being a lead singer and a Cornell admirer, planted himself directly in front of Chris, among the barrier of over heating groupies, to take in the SG experience. As he listened to Chris hit those, as Rollins put it, "paint peeling high notes", he held his head and stomped in mock frustration at his own lack of vocal range and wanted to yell out to Chris, "Aww, FUCK YOU, man!" as an expression of awe and jealously. In the midst of the awesome vocal assault, Rollins was distracted by the fact that Chris had duct taped his shorts to his body. All Henry could think was, "What THE FUCK is up with THAT?" After the show, Rollins asked Chris for some insight. Naturally, Chris shrugged and deadpanned with characteristic Cornell detachment, "Well, all these women keep trying to rip them off of me." To complete his story for us, Henry dropped his mouth wide open in disbelief and began to fall to his knees, imitating what it must be like to be Chris Cornell, with the weight of such cumbersome 'problems' on your shoulders. ;) -Vikki ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 3 Jun 1997 19:25:24 +0000 From: Fiona Thiessen Subject: only read if your name is nicholas and you're french! sorry sommsters i have lost an addy... I just read Julia's relay of the radio report on SG POSSIBLY being on hiatus. Thanks Julia! I live in a small town on the East Coast, and I have very few sources of info on ANYTHING happening with the guys. SOMMS is my #1 source! We all want to hear any crumbs of info that are circulating; and as long as it's qualified by stating it EXACTLY as we heard it, I think this is the perfect place to post it and discuss it. As for my personal opinion, the guys always said that when the trip wasn't fun anymore, they would break up. So here we are. Which also means that after a few years of doing their own things I don't think it would be outside the realm of possibility that they would make some more music together. I can't think of anything that I would rather hear than new SG. I'm not holding my breath until this happens, but there are very few things that surprise me anymore. :) Life Rules! You can always see them go for his crotch when he was crowd surfing. Someone invariably had their hand on his crotch. I like Henry Rollins more and more all the time, just for his attitude. I had to go move my car and when I came back in the house, one of them was staring at one of my stacks of SG tapes and videos. Turns out SG is his favorite band and has been for a long time. It was so cool. Here's this guy scrubbing out the weird mystery stains on my couch and we're talking about SG, Hater, WWC. . . I had to make a trip down to Indianapolis this past weekend. Anyone who has driven through the middle of any mid western state knows what I am talking about . This is an incredibly BORING drive. So I brought my entire Soundarden catalog with. After hours of Interstate driving I exited off and came to the first spotlight. My car is stopped but I am not. Outshined is blaring on the stereo, my hands are playing air drums on the steering wheel, my head and hair is flying every which way and my body is moving as much as an old body can move strapped into a automobile. And of course I am singing at the top of my lungs. The song comes to an end, a final slap of the steering wheel and I feel eyes upon me. I turn my head to the left and there sit two teenage boys with mouths agape at the spectacle they just witnessed. Haven't had those kind of looks since I had 8 sweating euphoric sommsters in my car last November. I grab my Soundgarden air freshener that hangs proudly in my car (Although on April 9th it quite smelling) turn it towards them , smile broadly and point at the logo. I get two smiles back and thumbs up(double thumbs up from the passenger). The light changes and I am on my way....with the tape deck turned down. Another Soundgarden moment! =20 One other thing in my Soundgarden driving marathon I was listening to the Crown of Thorns boot (thanks Valerio!) and I never heard Chris singing Stairway to Heaven during the beginning of Beyond the Wheel before. I don't see how I missed it?? Better get a new hearing aid!! =20 toni ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Jun 1997 13:47:04 +0000 From: Stella Rogers Subject: just spreading the good news I just got a job at Ernie Ball! I'm gonna sand & package guitars. Maybe one day I will be making a guitar that Kim, Chris, or Ben will play. That's basically the only reason I applied for the job. Silly, eh? Well, that's just me I guess. She DID NOT state it was fact or that it was from any real source, but as Dangy says, anymore anything is w/in the realm of possibility. I also see absolutely no reason why something like this couldn't be discussed on this list! Isn't that why this list is in existence?? Things have been too quiet around here to put the kibashes on someone who heard something that was of interest! later....deb > >I just read Julia's relay of the radio report on SG POSSIBLY being on >hiatus.
