Actually, the Hater site has a new URL: http://ten.shocking.com/hater/ Just a minor, but necessary, change from the original URL. -seth ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 May 1997 19:08:36 +0200 From: Eivind Haarr Subject: Rusty Cage - Soundgarden's own or cover? I'm a Soundgarden-lover from Norway that got a big surprise the other day. On my radio I heard a country version of Rusty Cage, I think it was Joe Cocker or someone... Don't really know who it was, I remember they said on the radio that he was a big country star in the US. This version was slower and... well... more country-like.... :) So... I wonder if someone can help me with my little problem: Is Rusty Cage Soundgarden's own work? Did this country guy rip the song from Soundgarden or did Soundgarden rip the song form this country guy? Anyway, it's a great song, one of the greatest from Soundgarden, and the song that made me like the band! I'm new to the list and also love sg, of course. Rusty cage is Soundgarden's song that a famous country singer, Johnny Cash recently made a cover of and apparently Soundgarden is pleased with it. Firstly Kerrang has been busy publishing a top 50 of the rockstars Kerrang readers would most like to...ahem...'shag' Chris is there at number 12..."The ultimate grunge pin-up. Chris' muscle-bound pecs and swarthy good looks beautifully offset his mean and moody 'look at me and I'll nut yer' attitude. One look into those deep, dark, enigmatic eyes and you know that a spot of bedspring-bouncing with the Seattle smoothie would be a journey into the unknown. Sexier than: Kim Thayil." Inane, yes, but harmless. Gwen Stefani was number one by the way. Equally ludicrous, but somewhat annoying as it is of serious intent, is the report on the Soundgarden split in French magazine Rocksound. Loosely translated, it begins thus: " Last month we reported on the growing tensions between Chris Cornell's wife (also the manager of the group) and the rest of the band. This time, there is no longer any doubt: Soundgarden have gotten lost in their own 'black hole' with no survivors and have officially announced their breakup via their record company A&M...." It goes on to give the official statement, mention the new Hater/Devilhead records, Chris' possible solo career, no news on Kim blah blah blah. This is the first time Rocksound I have seen in Britain so I have no idea what they printed about Susan in last month's issue (and anyway the story is patently *complete* bollocks), but no doubt that ubiquitous 'inside source' was to blame ;-) Either that or they are confusing Susan with Gloria Cavalera! Cherchez la femme, indeed :-))) UKDeb ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 May 1997 14:29:49 -0400 From: Anna Mehrer Subject: DotU clear vinyl Hey folks....I was wondering if any of you happen to know approx. how = much the DotU gatefold sleeve, clear vinyl goes for in your local record = store. I made the purchase in Germany and am curious about the pricing. Or is there a "collector's page" for such info (not necessarily the = discography)? Thanks! Here's some more info on it: it was taped at the Hollywood Paladium in 1989 and had a set list of: Come Together, Ugly Truth, Mood For Trouble, Hands All Over, (some song I couldnt recognize), Outshined, Gun, Room a Thousand Years Wild and Big Dumb Sex. It was part of a special "grunge" concert airings with some idiot named Doug Podell hosting it. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 May 1997 16:03:42 EDT From: seth Subject: Re: DotU clear vinyl > Hey folks....I was wondering if any of you happen to know approx. how > much the DotU gatefold sleeve, clear vinyl goes for in your local record > store. Actually, there is such a page, but it was never completed. It was one of those additions to the SG site that was suggested a long time ago that I responded to with "sure, I'll have it done in three days" -- and never finished. I promise I will get this up and running soon. (And in answer to your question, DOTU on clear vinyl was selling for around $18-$25 when it first came out - I don't know if the price has gone up or down since then.) -seth ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 May 1997 16:22:55 -0700 From: eliza Subject: Re: DotU clear vinyl seth wrote: > And in answer to your question, DOTU on clear vinyl was selling for > around $18-$25 when it first came out - I don't know if the price has > gone up or down since then For some reason, I have seen tons of DOTU clear vinyls lately and i don't think the prices have changed much...every one i have seen recently has been about $21.00.. eliza ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 May 1997 16:59:51 -0400 From: "Carol C." Subject: My short take on the compilations Hi, I will make this short. After watching all those tapes, I have come to a few conclusions. 1. Good tapes! 2. Chris likes to roll around and play in the dirt. 3. Chris is a blabber mouth. (in a nice way, mind you) 4. Kim is a good bowler. 5. They are really, really sick of dumbass MTV reporters, but theyre still nice to them anyway. Who was that one nervous dork with the long black hair? (not ricky) 6. Ben really might have something to say if he ever gets his turn at the mike. 7. Matt is cuter than I thought. 8. Um Chris wished he didnt have sexual urges cuz they get him in trouble? Makes me think all you who thought he was a virgin before Susan were wrong! wrong! wrong! Just like I thought you were. Go ahead, spam (yea spam) me now!!! I can take it! hee hee Carol ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 May 1997 17:00:32 -0400 From: "Carol C." Subject: You can spot 'em a mile away. Mark, Where have you been? Jeez. I think this subject was, oh nevermind. The mime was that cool actor guy named Eric with the long red hair. He usually plays some worn out druggie in movies. I think he's great. I dont remember his last name. Citizen Dick is a pure figment. Matt Dillon is not a rock star. Matt Dillon wore a wig. Sorry, but I think Chris was a dork in that movie (what?! the mighty one a dork? yea, a dork!) just standing there nodding his head. I liked his onstage presence way better. Hello. My name is Carol. Im a Soundgardenaholic. hee hee Carol In a message dated 97-05-28 01:28:18 EDT, you write: << Subj: Important QUESTION....please read....thanx Date: 97-05-28 01:28:18 EDT From: mcmahon@DRUMMOND.COM (McMahon Potvin) Reply-to: mcmahon@DRUMMOND.COM (McMahon Potvin) To: SOMMS@MITVMA.MIT.EDU I was just watching my SINGLES movie for the zillionth time and i wondered yet again : Is the mime played by Chris Cornell?
