Like Scott made me realise after i posted yesterday, there were some bands that actually HAD talent in the 80s.......(Metallica,etc).....so sorry if i pissed off fans of such bands...hell, soundgarden was born in the mid-80s.... but let's face it.....Twisted Sisters sucked..... By the way, the Soundgarden article in GuitarWorld is REALLY cool.....i would certainly suggest that every sommster get a copy!!! Laters, eh!!!! Marc ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 May 1997 13:22:50 -0400 From: Jaime Gonzalez Subject: SG feature in Guitar World I'll just add my 2 bytes to this topic. The poster included in the mag features the 3 guitar players and not Matt. It's predominately a black and white poster, although it 's not a B/W.The backdrop is white and they, Kim,Chris and ben are dressed mostly in black. I am not a photo.expert at all. Kim is holding his White Guild S-100,Chris has ahold of a black Les Paul, and Ben is holding up his fender P-bass. The photo must have been taken years ago.Chris's hair is very long and he is wearing a 90 shirt and the Gibson also has a 90 sticker on the body.Kim is wearing a World Domination Regime Shirt. At the bottom of the poster is the band name in black and underneath it,white numbers 1984-1997. The expression on Kim's face looks like he is thinking it's too hot under these bright lights and I rather be somewhere else.Chris's expression tells me he will cooperate, and wants to finish this up. The article is by Seattle journalist Grant Alden and the photography by Who else but Charles Peterson. Some interesting info. that I wasn't aware of.SG played a short unannounced opening set for local glam band Witch Dokter to break Ben in before going on the road to support BMF.And ,Kim hate to fly,on airlines that is. I guessing here now,but I speculate that Guitar worlds competitor Guitar for the practicing musician will have a feature article in the next issue. Happy anniversary to DOTU.My favorite songs on this album are BUTOW,Tighter and Tighter,Overfloater,Boot Camp. They had 2 Gavin Rosdale (sp? who cares) quotes. The first one was from earlier on that said Soundgarden was one of the worst bands in music and that they and all the "Judus Priest and Black Sabbath spawns" suck. Later, Gavin said that Soundgarden is one of the most influential bands in rock history and that their drummer is a big fan . . . so like the radio station said, "Which is it Gavin?". I'll take it to mean that Gavin is a shifty fucker that has nothing better to do but shift with public consensis after he finds out his feeble brain can not comprehend good music. I'm gonna go on the internet and hopefully find the sources for both these quotes . . . ************************************************************************* *********************** Mayor McCheese ********************************** ************************************************************************* ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 May 1997 13:39:23 -0500 From: Mayor McCheese Subject: SGGH Sorry To Double Post but: I REALLY hope SG never puts out a "Greatest Hits" album out. They are the most insipid pieces of junk that the modern era has devised. Instead of painting a picture of what a bands music was like . . . they often are stagnant, reducing the music to "the hits" and what was commercially successful. Face it, SG could put BHS and BUTOW on a disc and it would sell. But that is pandering to an audience who A) Didn't care enough about the music in the first place to buy the albums B) Still doesn't care to go back and buy the albums Let's face it. I'm sure there will be some SG retrospective release within the next 20 years. I just hope it goes the route that the police took with the Message in a Box set, allowing the listener to realize all the music (yes, even in SG case Exit Stonehenge ;) ). I think the most interesting thing to do would be like the Led Zeppelin Box set. Either one. The first one that came out was interesting because it let you listen to the tracks the band felt was important, and the new track order really seemed to flow nicely. I didn't like, however, that I had to buy a second box set later on of the tracks that Zep didn't want on the set (which missed one of my favs "Tea for One"). Needless to say, the first box sets cohearency wasn't worth the price of having the second disks so piece-meal. I do hope that any retrospective takes the form of the second Zep box set. Leave the albums as themselves, in the original track order. SG was an album band. Taking the tracks out of the album's original order displaces a music that developed and lived with each successive album. Face it, I can't imagine Beyond the Wheel or Flower a track or two away from Burden in My Hand or even Rusty Cage for that matter . . . Enough Rambling? I had to get it off my chest. I'm just so sick of an industry that seems all to content to take a album apart and it's statement for purely commercial reasons. Video killed the Radio Star, but singles killed the album . . . ************************************************************************* *********************** Mayor McCheese ********************************** ************************************************************************* ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 May 1997 15:21:59 -0400 From: Kelly Hendricks Subject: Somebody...Anybody...Help Me Please... I read the post about the Circus tribute and it got me thinking. Well, not about the Circus magazine but about Hit Parader. Could someone please give me an address and/or a phone number where I can order back issues and get a subscription. At all of the *two* bookstores around here, they don't carry Hit Parader which really burns me. Anyway, if you can help me, please e-mail me. Also, if you could maybe let me know just how many back issues I'll be having to order (the ones with anything in them about SG). Thanks!!! Take care and be sweet!! I got Ty Cobb single today. Thanks to Eliza and my Aussie fairy godmother. And the thing that struck me about the Rhino remix is that is sounds like it was recorded in a bee hive! Blank cds are 6$, but I think that my friend is probably going to want a couple bucks extra. It would be less than 10$ total, and I could probably talk him to around 8$ or so each. If anyone wants a copy of either of the two boots I own (Stolen Prayers and UltramegaUnknown), that's easy. However if people are cool and send me other boots so I myself can have copies (as well as make copies for anyone else interested), I'll be happier--and there will be more stuff I can make copies of. :) umm........ I think that's bout it. If you're interested, or if you want more information bout this whole thing, email me. I'm sure that my girlfriend would lend me her FDR to make copies of, but she's on vacation right now so I'm not going to commit to anything.. if this brings back that bootlegs=theft thread..... grrrrrrr skye ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 May 1997 14:30:16 +1000 From: Nicky Taylor Subject: swallow my pride Hi everyone. I was wondering if someone could explain the situation with "Swallow My Pride". You see, on the sub pop 200 cd I have, the fastbacks are doing it but it is credetid as mark arm, and someone who'ds name I can't remember. Then on screaming life/fopp, soundgarden do it, and there dosn't seem to be any credit to mark arm, but there is a little astrix(*) next to it, but when you match it to the astrix in the creits, it dosn't have mark arm's name. Then on this Pearl Jam boot I just got from a freind in america, Mark Arm is singing it with pearl jam playing it. So my question is, did mark arm and someone else write it? My opinion is that he did, but then why is it on screaming life/fopp? It would be really appreciated if someone could tell me the answer to this wlittle queary of mine.
