There are plenty of knowledgable people on this list who would be happy to take the time to answer it. If anybody pesters you about it, just ignore them. Likewise, anybody who implies that they are a better fan or a better person than you just because they happen to know more trivia. [Carolyn Hanel] Hear, hear! :-) =20 I've just waded through over 200 posts (Toni - Jamie - Jackhammer - I've = completely caught up!!), and I was disappointed to see that some people = still seem to think they run this list, and are better than the rest of = us. [sigh] Yes, we're back to the old lecturing and dictating again. Makes me think I'm back at school! ;-) So, Koggle, and others - take heed of what Jen says! We're not ALL so = high and mighty on this list.......... Onto some other SG thoughts: Tonight while doing some housework I had a good listen to the extra CD = that comes with the Aussie release of Down Under on the Upside. =20 {for those who perhaps didn't have the time to find this on the web page = - believe me, I can identify with not having much time! - the songs are: = Jerry Garcia's Finger (can you call that a song?); Karaoke; Bleed = Together; Birth Ritual (original demo); Fell on Black Days (video = version); and Dusty (Moby remix).} I really love it! I'm one who didn't buy the singles with Karaoke & = Bleed Together on it, so for me it is worth having them here. They are = really great songs. The "You can hear it in the air, you can feel it in = your bones, you can sing it in your head, you can wear it in your = clothes, you can steal it if you dare.........." from Karaoke are such = cool lyrics. And the way CC's voice is kind of robot-like and low in = the verses, as well as the whole tune - oh boy, I am lost for words. = Blind Dog is much better at describing this than I! But trust me, if = you haven't heard this song or Bleed Together (which is so happy = sounding!), they're wonderful. I am just so pleased I have them! And = the Moby remix of Dusty - it's so soothing. :-) When I shut my eyes = when listening to this song I can imagine being somewhere exotic like = Egypt - starting with that soft calming singing, I am taken away to a = warm balmy evening, where a snake charmer is coaxing a snake out of his = basket by doing that singing, accompanied by a sacred ritual with = embalming oils and an open fire and mysterious dancing ladies! Yah, I = know, I'm a strange one. :-P And listening to Birth Ritual made me get = out my "Singles" CD to listen to it again.......... Justin mentioned when he saw Soundgarden on television recently was when = he actually said goodbye to them. Well, tonight listening to them on = this bonus CD and then on Singles was my way of saying goodbye. = Soundgarden, I love you. But I won't have to miss you, for I will = always play your music! :-) Carolyn the Molten Fray I think it's turning back around, and I think I like = it........Soundgarden ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 17 May 1997 10:38:19 -0700 From: RoseeMisst Subject: Re: Soundgarden/Rush >Has anyone read that interview where Chris Cornell said that he didn't like >Badmotorfinger because he thought it sounded like Rush? It was a Spin article from 1992, and its on Seth's site some where. Andrea mentioned that she thought their assessment of hater to be "mean", and it is, kinda, but on the other hand I have to say that i agree that the performance was very very lacklustre and that ben did seem to have some kind of attitude, though i chalked it up to a sucky audience and sheer nervousness. however, the comparison to the late Johnny Thunders' Heartbreakers can only be seen as the highest compliment (at least in my book....) on the other hand, i thought valis sucked and of course they loved them. figures. which leads me to believe that even if hater had put on a good show, they still would have wrote the same thing. this is one of those reviews that seems like the reviewer wrote even before seeing the performance... --caryn -------------------- from _the Rocket_, 5/14-5/28/97 FASTBACKS, HATER, VALIS Showbox, Seattle 5/2 The Fastbacks, exceptionally tight since finishing a world tour late last year, put smiles on every face in the house with a typically exuberant set. If you haven't seen this veteran Sattle band by now, hurry up! It'll probably only be around for another 15 years. It's hard to say the same for Hater, a band featuring ex-Soundgardeners Matt Cameron and Ben Shepherd. Hater's songs were good enough, along the lines of a latter day Hearbreakers, but the performances were so underpracticed and uninspired (and Shepherd had such a huge chip on his shoulder), that the question on everybody's minds was: "Do you expect us to clap just because two of you sold 10,000,000 records in your last band?" Tad's Kurt Danielson, Mudhoney's Dan Peters and Scremaing Tress' Van Conner make up three-fourths of Valis, so it was no surprise that most of the band's tunes were grounded in the gutbusting bottom end. Conner's singing, bless his heart, was as tone-deaf as Linda McCartney's, so thye songs were often dishevled heaps of noise. --by Dan Johnson ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 17 May 1997 22:26:02 -0500 From: NIKI FREER Subject: Truly...Hater? hey sommsters... i scored a promo copy of truly's "fast stories...from kid coma" for $8 over the past week. it was in a used bin in this store in Mass. and a BHS single. and the Sub Pop 200 comp. for $8. and i found a Mudhoney shirt for $2 at a goodwill store. = ) but on to hater... anyone know anything about when the new album is supposed to appear? just curious... and i know it may have been said before... sorry if it was... mind riot ____ i think it's turning back around and i think i like it... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SOUNDGARDEN 1984-1997 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 17 May 1997 22:36:01 -0400 From: Zubin Gautam Subject: Re: Soundgarden/Rush In a message dated 97-05-16 13:49:28 EDT, you write: << Has anyone read that interview where Chris Cornell said that he didn't like Badmotorfinger because he thought it sounded like Rush? Subject: Re: hater review from _the rocket_ Regarding that May 2nd show at the Showbox (I assume this is the show Caryn is talking about...), I thought Hater played a good set. They didn't have too many fuck ups, and the songs were short, to the point, and driven. Yes, Valis didn't do much for me. The brother Conner is not a lead singer by any means, and I think he was too smashed to sing well and play well at the same time. Hell, its hard enough when you are sober. One cool note, on an early exit after Valis started playing, Matt C was out in front of the Showbox waiting for some friends. I offered a few compliments, and being the stud he is, he shook off any self glorification and said, "You liked it? Thanks man." Matt rules. Did anyone ever tell me who the drum tech was that jumped in during the show to play on the 4th song? Is he a friend of the bands? The roadie? Who?
