Her post was not a flame, it seemed *extremely* polite to me. If someone wants an opinion/discussion on something, then ask for it. Koggle (sp??) did not seem to me to be asking for an opinion, but more a fact about DOTU's rerelease in Aust. Can you imagine what this list would be like if everybody said "i don't have time to look through seth's site so...."? Also,(sorry to complain) but could people only include what is necessary when replying to another post. Can you tell I'm having a shit day ? :) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 May 1997 00:21:34 +1000 From: tendrils Subject: Exquisite Corpse..... They don't know what it is until it's finished. exquisite corpse is a surrealist game. It wasn't originally done with pictures, but with words. Ie. one would come up with a sentece structure (ie. verb noun verb....) and each person would fill in one word (not knowing any of the others). Pretty cool game if u ask me. Anyhow, from memory, it's called exquisite corpse because the very first sentence ever generated was something like "the exquisite corpse drinks the red wine" home page plug: Don't you hear a voice repeating inside your head? After posting my response to Dave's query, I received quite a few 'lighten up, Vikki...it's obvious that the band broke up because of Ben' responses. Haven't we covered this topic ad nauseum? Ben's volatile behavior is very simply a media angle. Is there a hint of evidence (or even a RUMOR), that Kim, Matt, or Chris found Ben difficult to work with IN THE STUDIO? Nope. The cold, hard fact is that SG could have gone on to produce studio albums for YEARS to come, if they had been so inclined. They weren't. They were SATISFIED with what they had accomplished and, in a very classy move, they chose to move on. -Vikki "It's the big lies that are more likely to be believed." -Chris Cornell ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 May 1997 11:49:46 -0500 From: Alba Subject: Re: Mad Season/CC > >someone@his_host.com wrote: >> First I heard that Chris Cornell formerly of Soundgarden is laying down >> the vocals to the new Mad Season disc. > >This just in, comments? They were >SATISFIED with what they had accomplished and, in a very classy move, they >chose to move on. thank you, vikki anselmo, the voice of reason. those of you telling vikki to "lighten up" aren't even fit to have an email account. she's forgotten more about soundgarden than you will ever know (and go back to the digests and read things like her european tour journal or her randall's island review if you doubt me... that is if you can READ sentences of more than three words put together). hey, let's grasp at straws! why not attribute the breakup to chris' black moods? that is documented in MANY interviews, by chris himself in his own words. i don't see any of you who KNOW NOTHING senselessly babbling away about that. those pointing fingers at ben even NOW are just a bunch of impressionable sheep who let the media tell them what to think. I AM NOT SUGGESTING THAT *THAT* IS THE REASON THAT SOUNDGARDEN BROKE UP. we KNOW why the band broke up because THEY TOLD US. we are very very lucky in that we are the ONLY people in the world who the band has spoken to thus far about the break up, via matt's post to this list (and don't go asking for the post or looking for it in the digest, seth has already determined and stated that if you weren't here, you don't get it, and if you forward it, you get kicked). and for those of you who "don't have time" to go through the greatest soundgarden resource the world has ever known, TOUGH! what, WE have time to answer your questions for you? ask for a pointer, if you don't have web access SAY SO and someone will be glad to send you the answers to your questions. but don't come on here demanding that we answer every one-line basic inquiry that you have. where the hell is the KTMS when you need them???? as a general in Kim's Forces, I'm rallying the troops NOW. I'm trying to put together a detailed list of the few shows Hater has done in its short career, and thanks to Caryn, Thug, Justin, USDeb, and Andrea, I've managed to get some information about seven shows since 1993. However, there are some particulars missing, and this is my official request for assistance from anyone who may know the answers to any of the following: - On March 22, 1996, Hater played the OK Hotel. One of the other bands there that night was Doo Rag. Who was the third band? - In March 1996, Hater played the Pioneer Square Theatre. What was the exact date of this show? Who were the other bands that played? Thanks to Andrea, it seems that one of the bands was the Fallouts, and the other band was an all-female group whose name starts with "Fl" (e.g., Fluffy). More details are needed. If anyone knows of any other Hater gigs that are not listed on the website, or can provide setlists, that would be great. Thanks, seth PS - If you have a chance, check out Thug's excellent photos from Saturday's show at the OK Hotel. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 May 1997 18:44:30 -0400 From: Laura Koeth Subject: thoughts on SG Ok here are some of opinions on Superunknown - I am proud to say that the first time I heard and saw Soundgarden was on Mtv. ( you know, when they actually played good videos?). Anyways, I saw the Black Hole Sun video and thought... wow what a weird and scary video. I love it! I of course went out and bought Superunknown and listened to it so much that even my family knows the lyrics backwards and forwards. For some reason, I could listen to that album hundreds of times and never grow sick of it. I thought and still do think the day I tried to live and Like suicide are my favorite songs on that album. After awhile I had began to work backwards and bought badmotorfinger, louder than love and ultramega ok. That was weird because each album was so different that I wondered if it was the same band. But after listening to them for so long, I noticed the similarities and appreciated each album for different reasons. Ok. enough on that. :) I just got finished reading the Soundgarden article in Rolling Stone. It sounded like they were ashamed of Soundgarden and made them out to be not as popular as other "superbands" like Metallica and Nirvana. Uhh who cares. Whatever happened to the music? does it really matter how many records are sold? Before I go off on a tangent on that, I'm gonna stop myself. :) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 May 1997 19:23:47 -0500 From: MICHAEL APPLE Subject: Record Sales Date sent: 14-MAY-1997 19:19:36 A lot of media is calling "Down On The Upside" a "disappointment" because it *only* sold three million copies worldwide. What's wrong with selling three million copies? Hell, I'd do cartwheels and howl at the moon if I sold three million copies of an album. :) Has anyone else noticed how record companies are trying to "weed out" grunge rock bands and alternative rock now? It must be because they have "disappointing" record sales. They don't sell twenty million copies like the bouncing boob girls... I mean, the Spice Girls. Oh, by the way, one of Kim Thayil's favorite rock bands, Tool, is headlining Lollapalooza this year. They have a new hit record, AEnema, which sold a million copies. (Good thing they didn't sell three million, or they'd be disappointing.) This is the first time I've posted (we just got a computer), so Hello! to all of my fellow SG fanatics. My husband just found a copy of the boot Supermainstream (he also tracked down SOMMS for me awhile back-- what a guy!). Can anyone tell me anything about the Songs for Ozzy EP (Chris' unreleased solo EP)? The songs--Stolen Prayer, Heart Fist, Unholy War-- are great! Are these the only 3 songs on this EP? Is there an actual Songs for Ozzy EP floating around out there? Also, since everyone has been talking about their pets and SG, I would add that my 2 1/2 year old daughter LOVES SG. She sings along to almost all of the songs--not Ty Cobb or Big Dumb Sex :) . (I never skip songs--I love Ty Cobb. I just turn down the volume so she won't pay attention.) Her favorites are Slaves and Bulldozers and BIMH. I know Kim slams "music for children" but what can I say? She loves good music! Thanks for any help with Songs for Ozzy. Life Rules!
