You know what, guys? Forget the rest of the band. KIM THAYIL IS THE
TRUE GOD! With his Charles-Manson-like countenance, the truly sexual
relationship between man and guitar, I shiver with anticipation, just
waiting for him to....

hehehehe...this whole Who-Is-The-Greatest-SG-member is pretty silly.

This response to the 'Matt post' is probably pretty late, since I get
the digest version, but I was definitely excited to read the post from
Matt(and you hoped he wouldn't be reading our posts, Caryn :0} ) I had
secretly hoped something like that would happen, but I thought, 'come
on, if Matt posted directly to the list, no one would believe it was
him.' Instead, he uses seth as his vessel. Smart move, Matt. There
are times like these when I'm glad to be a sommster. Forget all that
media shit. All I needed was consolation from an actual SG bandmember.

Okay, enough sap. Here's a visual if you haven't read it already:
> I was thinking about the "Chris is Soundgarden" thing. I couldn't help
> but mind-jump to that No Doubt situation where all the band members are

> Kim, Matt, Ben mugging for the magazine camera. Chris wearing a tiara.
> Matt doing that crazy juggle thing with the orange.
> Then, to top it all off, Chris singing to Ben about their former relationship.
> It gave me a good chuckle.

I'd like to apologize about my post concerning Entertainment Weekly (the
first one). Someone else posted a direct quote from it, which is better
than my word (I didn't read it myself until after I posted).
Also, I'd like to thank Matt (and seth, of course) for his message. No,
it didn't tell us about anyone's future plans, but it let ME know, at
least, that they're still out there. Again, many thanks.
Finally, will people stop bitching about those of us who want to know
about the band? Yeah, they have personal lives, they need privacy, but
are we really intruding on either when we speculate about them? NO!
We're fans; they've touched our lives with their music; we SHOULD want
to know. What we may say on this list is quite different than facing
Matt, Chris, Ben, or Kim and DEMANDING an answer!
(Uh-oh, I didn't state their surnames!) ^_^;\
Eternal Soundgarden,
Scott

enuf for mc to be a fan, i wanna hear it! so someone help me out!

the percussionist for the tea party is the only drummer i can listen to
nowadays who doesn't sound weak...and there's also awesome lyrics, near
the cc level, if anyone just has the hunger for more good words.

Tony Williams was a jazz/rock fusion pioneer. He was Miles Davis'
percussionist for 6 years before he pursued his own jazz fusion combo
entitled "Tony William's Lifetime". I believe his most recent work
appears (I could be wrong) on a Jimi Hendrix trubute album called "In
From The Storm" in which he plays with such musicians as Carlos Santana
and Steve Vai. Pearl Jam's ex-drummer, Dave Abbruzzese, also plays on
the album though they don't play together on any of the tracks. I hope
that helps...

I don't know Matt Cameron either, but I don't think he would consider
himself too good, too cool, or too modern/post-modern to accept a serious
offer from the Foo Fighters. I think he would be a tremendous advantage
for the band and could help take them to new levels. If it were me, I
wouldn't care who I'd played for previously, if I wasn't in a band I'd jump
at the chance to play with Pat and Dave (who also has got to be one of the
best drummers around, esp. for being a guitarist!) Who knows, the Foo
fFighters may want to move beyond their "punk" sound but even if they
didn't, I think Matt Cameron would be a tremendous improvement.

Worse comes to worse, he could come and drum for me! :)

Peace,
Flea

I do not think you have to call anyone or what anyone says and thinks
stupid. This is uncalled for and everyone is entitled to their own
opinions. You mustn't take these things as a personal offense.

To Carol:

You said, "you just don't get it do you?" in response to Metkulu's
agreeing with what I said about not caring what the rest of the band does
and only caring about Chris, etc. Well I am fucking tired of you and caryn
or whatever her name is getting all pissy about this. What I am saying is
that SG was a great band who will live in infamy, figuratively. The tunes,
the lyrics, the music that Chris, Matt, Kim, Hiro and Ben made are truly
fucking unbelievable and can never in all eternity be duplicated. However,
IN MY OPINION Chris Cornell had a pivotal role in SG. Without his vocals,
lyrics and passions I honestly do not think SG would be remotely as perfect
as they were. This may be harsh words to say and you may want to tell me
too fuck off because I don't know what the fuck I am talking about but,
WHATEVER!!!!! I cannot and will not apologize for thinking this or feeling
as deep as I do for CC and I will not fucking tolerate you and others
telling me or who ever agrees with me that our opinion on this matter is
STUPID or that we just do not get it. Frankly, you just do not get it.
What I get from Soundgarden is different from what you or anyone else
might get. What you see I do not, what you feel I do not, what you want I
do not!!!!!
I do not want to argue, I do not want to cause a ruckus but I did not join
Somms to have my opinions denounced and stepped on. Say what you have to
say in response to my opinions or thoughts or anyone elses but you do not
have to rude and name-calling about it. I joined Somms so I can have people
to talk to who share my interest in this great bound called SG because
others just do not undderstand their impact. Again, I do not want to
argue. I just want to state my opinions in a hostile free environment.

Subject: Scusa!!!

To all who replied and hated my comment of CC being SG and CC being a God,
IGNORE IT and read this:

You all are absolutely right about CC not being SG. You are right that CC
is NOT a GOD. You are right, right, right!! I apologize for my ignorance.
I cannot explain what I meant just like you will never understand what I
emant to say. I guess when I turn on SG cd's and lie down on my bed, close
my eyes and sink deep into that semi-unconscious world my ears and mind
turn down the music and listen to the lyrics and the passion in the voice.
The sound settles me in a most unimagineable way. I realize I am tired of
unpassionate voices blaring out of my radio, stupid marketable lyrics
screaming or bitching to me. I look for what I hear in CC's voice because I
cannot find it anywhere else. I am not a musician but a poet. Of course I
love the music, the sounds, the tunes behind the voice but most of the time
the only thing that sooths or hurts or stings is the words FOR ME anyway.

Some of you like the guitars, the drums, the bass, etc. Some of you like
the harmony brought together by them all. I understand that and respect
that as i sometimes feel the same way. But, I cannot understand why any of
you would think that I do not understand their harmony. I understand the
harmony of Aerosmith (my favorite all-time band) I understand the harmony
of AIC and NIN and STP. But, I cannot help but feel compelled to listen to
the words, lyrics and passion of voice and its harmony alone. There is
something about CC's particular voice that gets to me, and yes the rest of
the band does help a tremendous deal in bringing it all together, but,
still, there is something that cannot be explained in CC's voice/lyrics
that is remarkable and distinguishable from all the bands I know and/or
love. So no one can tell me that I am not aware of CC's music, and his
love for his music and lyrics and band members, etc. I am sure he is into
the harmony of the music and his lyrics, voice and passion. That is all
fine and dandy.

I suppose I then do not belong on this mailing list because I do not think
of SG as one group. I have the right to single out one voice and drown out
the rest. It is not God's voice, you are right. It is not the only voice,
you are right. But it is the voice and everything that comes with it that
I choose to hear when I am upset, when I am happy, when I am depressed,
when I am sad. Trent Reznor to most people can be his own band sometimes
because he can play every instrument probably known to man. He is a
musical genius but he has a band. He and his band is NIN. But TR is TR.
Just as CC is CC and CC and Matt, Kim, BEN are SG. CC is a human, he
feels, talks, hurts, bleeds, etc. In no way superior, but I what he DOES is
transcendant of the norm.

So, in closing if I have upset you, I apologize. Ignore what I said in
my previous e-mails, ignorance was bliss.

your head..."

Tony Williams was and will always be, a legendary jazz drummer/composer. The
drumming community was at a major loss over a key figure in modern drumming
when he passed away much too early, about a month ago, as Matt pointed out.
His latest effort before his early departure was a beautiful collection of
songs on an album entitled "Wilderness". The disc features Williams along
with Pat Metheny on guitar, Michael Brecker on tenor saxophone, Herbie
Hancock on piano, and Stanley Clarke on bass. You can find it at just about
any major retailer (i.e. Best Buy, Circuit City) and I strongly urge
everybody to go out and give it a spin. ---Al

somewhere there exists a full studio version of 'christi'. matt
talks about it in his interview with drum! magazine (sept. 96). I'm not
sure that sessions for what would have been the next soundgarden album
were ever planned, scheduled or begun. in addition to that, any songs that
were left over or discarded from the dotu sessions probably wouldn't have
made it onto the next record.

perhaps because it is fairer to all four members of the band? if
you write something, you should get the credit. while they were a close
and largely democratic band, they were still four distinct and unique
people, deserving of individual credit for their work. besides, I doubt
that ownership of material was really a major concern in their early
history. perhaps they were more interested in *making* the music than
owning the music.

> And who is Greg Gillmore?
> The inpsiration for Never the Machine forever.

greg gilmore is a close friend of kim's and former drummer of
mother love bone. the inspiration for 'ntmf' came from a jam session with
gilmore some time before the dotu sessions. matt subsequently heard the
riff, changed the drum beat and then left kim to rearrange the parts and
write the lyrics.
