I haven't read this myself; my friend told me over the phone: there was
an article in the new Entertainment Weekly about SG with a some
different news than most all the other articles. It said that the band
really didn't like the whole touring bit (which some of us have heard
before and regret). Also, though tensions have mostly been with Ben
(esp. on stage), it said that Matt and Chris were having problems too...
no one noticed innocent ol' Matt? ^_^; New light was shed on Ben, too,
in that it was said that he wanted to develop SG's music further, though
the rest were pretty happy... SG stagnant? I don't think so... What I
think about this: concerning Devilhead (who everyone thinks really sucks
and is undeserving of Ben (I have never heard them anyway)), perhaps Ben
plans on single-handedly turning them around...? We'll wait for DH's
third album... What else... Many Seattle bands were shaken by this and
were considering splitting, including PJ & AiC. :[ Oh yeah, it was all
from "a source close to SG" :P but hey, I dunno, I'd like to read it
myself soon. What do you think?

When I saw them last October they didn't play *any* (well almost...) of my
favourites, among them the two already mentioned plus Mailman, Limo Wreck,
Zero Chance, Mind Riot, Fresh Tendrils, Like Suicide... (I could go on for
ages...)
Kinda pissed me off, it was a great show though, even if would have liked
to hear a lot of other songs than those played.

There is nothing wrong with speculating on the future of the former Soundgarden
members. We're all a bit upset regarding the future of our favorite
musicians, and imagining them working with other musicians we like makes it a
little easier. No one said "Matt, join Foo Fighters please!!!" It was just
idle, harmless speculation among other fans of Soundgarden. There was no harm
done and there is no need to attack people for stating their opinions.
As far as AIC and PJ breaking up in response to SG breaking up, I don't
know if I could handle that. While each breakup could mot be as painful as
that of Soundgarden, combined with the not yet dull pain of the loss os
Soundgarden it would be way too much. We can only pray that it dousn't happen.

(PS: breaking up in response to SG's breakup would be a stupid reason)

Huh. I disagree; I think Soundgarden was as perfect a blend of talents
as I've ever had the pleasure to hear.

I WISH I agreed with you, because then I wouldn't have to be so unhappy

By the way (sorry about the non-Soundgarden content, but I can't resist)
If you play guitar
and live near Sacramento,
and are looking for a band,
please email me privately to set up an audition for
a band that plays original (not covers) rock.
The band has a drummer, bass player, & rhythm guitarist/singer and is
looking for a lead guitarist (vocal talent is, of course, a plus).

I was thinking about the "Chris is Soundgarden" thing. I couldn't help
but mind-jump to that No Doubt situation where all the band members are
upset because gwen gets all the attention. (please note, here, that i'm
no fan of no doubt). Then, I imagined Soundgarden in the "don't speak" video.
Kim, Matt, Ben mugging for the magazine camera. Chris wearing a tiara.
Matt doing that crazy juggle thing with the orange.
Then, to top it all off, Chris singing to Ben about their former relationship.
It gave me a good chuckle.

Oh man, I'm gonna get unsubbed for this.

Hello.

Wow, that message made me cry. A lot. I'm really glad that at least one
member of the band knows how much love people had for Soundgarden, and how
painful the breakup was. I still can't get it thorugh my head that
Soundgarden does not physically exsist. I can never see them, ever, in my
whole life. But we still have the music and memories of them, and I'm really
glad that Matt knows this. I'm really glad that he knows the love that so
many people had for the band. Oh no, I'm crying again. It's weird. I have
such strong love for the band and it's members (ex-members?) and it's a very
special love that I have only for them. I'll never have that for any other
group or any other people.

Thank you Seth!!

From: Ali@Worldnet.att.net
Subject: Matt and CC (The only Soundgardener)

It was nice to hear from Matt, but please everyone heed the words of
Caryn, LEAVE THE GUYS ALONE!!!!!!!!Let them get some MUCH needed peace.
I know we all love them and may even feel like they are family to us,
but they are only human and humans do get tired. I too felt the way Matt
felt when Tony Williams died, as I also felt that way when another one
of my favorite musicians died, Harold Melvin. But I felt such relief
when I found out the only reason SG disbanded was because they wanted to
pursue other things and not because of a members death. When I saw them
last year I thought to myself, Get some rest guys, you need it BADLY..
I was glad that I got to see them perform live, and would have loved to
see them again, but is it worth it if your unhappy, bored or just in
plain need of a break.

and.......

Although this has been responded to enough, I just had to say something
about it.......CC is Soundgarden?......Good Grief!!!......Well what the
hell was Ben Shepherd, Matt Cameron, and Kim Thayil. I guess they were
just figments of our imagination, somepeople just taking up space so
Chris would not have to stand on stage by himself. I'm sorry to post
this to the list, but this statement got me so irratated (correct
spelling?) I had to speak up. I know everyone has their own opinions
about what makes up a band, but I thought a band consisted of more than
one person. Perhaps if it were called Chris Cornell and Soundgarden then
you could look at it in a different way or maybe not. But to say that CC
was SG please........Someone help me on this, am I wrong or what. I
should not let it bother me but, to me that is almost like disregarding
any contributions that Matt, Ben and Kim have made to SG over the Yes
(forgive me for forgetting which member said it)15 years of SG's
existance in one form or another. Instead of fawning over CC, why not
just fawn over the music, I'm sure that was their original intent to
begin with. Chris is a very attractive man, Yes, but so are Matt, Ben
and Kim, and that certainly is not the reason you should listen to them
or any other band for that matter. I certainly cant wait to see what
magic these guys have up their sleeves.(Did I spell that right?)

Well just speaking my mind............Sorry didnt mean to make it so
long. But good lord..............CC (laughs)!!!!!!!

This may upset some people but at this juncture in this long hall to
emotional recovery I could not give a damn!! I do not care so much what
the rest of the band does. I cannot imagine going another day, I cannot
imagine exhaling and inhaling another breath, and walking one more step
with out Chris Cornell's passionate voice flowing out of my stereo like
a
sweet flowery essence. I cannot begin to speak of the emotion this man
puts
me through when I hear his poetry transcribed through lyrics and songs.
Chris is a poet. He is my Deity. His words bring me new inspirations,
hopes , dreams, satisfactions, wholeness and light. So do not tell me
he
is a grown man and can drink and smoke and do whatever he feels. Do not
tell me he is not a role model. Do not speak to of such vices. He is
not
purposely a role model, and he has no responsibility to as one. However,
he
is an idol to me and others. He does not have to change for us, for
me. I
accept him as is. I suppose I just fear not hearing his sweet rhythmic
words, his empassioned voice full of life, love rage, intrigue and
feeling.
I can accept his drinking and smoking, but I would die inside, vegetate
into oblivion if I could hear the melodies I hear now when I put in
Superunknown, Down on the Upside and Temple of the Dog. Chris makes the
band. Chris is Soundgarden. Chris is Temple of the Dog. Chris is his
next band.

Chris Cornell is not a GOD in your sense (I do not believe in God so
for
those who believe in it) He is not physically superior but what he
exudes
and gives to us, to me, is far superior to your God, infinitely
infinite,
omnipotent, perfect, etc. I worship the ground he walks on and the
music
he makes because without him and only him I would not realize all the
significant things I came to realize. Without him/his music I will not
realize all the things I hope to see when he makes HIS new band.

Excuse me if I sound disgustingly poetic or pseudopoetic but this is
CC's
doing. He has brought out another side of me. I have more to say but
I'll
let you all take this in first. I must go sleep now....my soul is at
rest
for now..or maybe just numb.....

- - --The words you say never seem to live up to the ones inside your

one question....if Chris Cornell is the whole band...than why
was it once described as "one of the most democratic bands"?
Why do you listen to Applebite, Zero Chance, Somewhere, Limo Wreck,
etc, etc. Howcome Chris didn't say "Fuck you Ben, we don't need
you, you're out of the band" when Ben was getting into fights
with Kim? Or why didn't he say "Fuck you Kim, we don't need
you, you're out of the band"?

Oh. Because Chris isn't and wasn't the whole band. My bad.

This is in response to the tool who said that Chris is the entire band.
I didnt know that Gavin Rossdale was on this mailing list. This obtuse
craftsmen tried terribly hard to sound eloquent and poetic in his
wrenching story about fetal position blues, but his end result had about
as much coherency as "screaming daisies from fourteen miles away". This
is the kind of kid who thinks "do you feel the way you hate \do yyou hhaate
the way you feel" is a profound statement. Are you all afraid of this
kid as I am? Do us a favor, whoever you are: Go back to the fetal
position, and leave the "flowery essence" to the Spice Girls.

"My place was beneath you, but now I am above, and now I send you this
message of love."

Subject: Another Reason

Hi All,
Just got my entertainment weekly in the mail today. There's a small article
about the break up.
This one says"creative conflicts surfaced during the recording of DOTU,when
frontman Chris Cornell
and drummer Matt Cameron disagreed with guitarist Kim Thayil over how much
the band's sound should
evolve". And it goes on about the Hawaii thing Etc......
It seems as time passes we'll hear more&more reasons for the break up,but
will we ever know the truth?

                             Just thought I'd share.....Aloha....Nancy

Damn......

you are intentitled to your opinion about Chris being Soudgarden and
all.......BUT IT AIN'T TRUE....

The way i see it, throw Chris out of the band and throw in Mark Arm on
vocals and the band will still be a damn good one.........
heheheh......that's my opinion.....

Oh, and another thing to those who think "That Chris is
Soundgarden".......YOU ARE NOT SOUNDGARDEN FANS.........you're Chris
Cornell fans......

Again, this was not aimed to hurt anyone..... you are intitled to your
opinion.... just try to respect us SOUNDGARDEN fans a little bit!!!!!!

Now i'm not sayin i won't by a Chris Cornell solo record if it comes out, i
just like the whole of the band more than the individuals.........(although
Seasons was pretty good....)
