On interview, Chris said (jokingly) that it was a humor contest between his
"you make me sick, I make music" and Kim's "in one ear and out your mother"

IMO, the greatest mark left by Hiro was the song "I Awake". His songs had
the dark sound coupled with chris's vocals which made for a great combo. In
particular, "I Awake"(track #8 from Louder than Love) is probobly the song
that gets the most play out of my regular SG rotation. The lyrics, which
could just have easily been a love poem, go strangely well with the dark
riffs. Id urge you to give this song another listen if you've been skipping
it. Anyone else like this song? Another is the song right after it "No wrong
No right" (track #9 from Louder than Love) I love matt's intro solo, and I
love how chris carries the word "dead" for the length he does over from the
first verse to the chorus. This is another good song wrtten by Hiro, not one
you'd want ot skip when browsing your Louder than Love CD. I might as well
say that I just picked up the Burden single and I must say thay "she's a
politician" is some five star work (GREAT song).

Hello all, I finally played the Launch CD I had with SG on it yesterday.
And Chris was talking about stealing Beatle albums and my first reaction was
he shouldn't say stuff like that someone might think that is a cool thing to
do and steal a CD or something. Than I thought to myself. Are rock
stars(for lack of a better word) role models?? Does anyone feel that Kim,
Chris ,Matt or Ben are role models for them either as a musician or in a
personal way? If they are.... how so??? and if they aren't does anyone
think they should or shouldn't be? I really don't think most musicians care
to be anyone's role model. When I was younger I loved Keith Richard but I
never wanted to emulate him in any way. Well, maybe once or twice at a party
I might of tried to get as toasted as he use to be.
I admire the men in Soundgarden for their talent. Since I have no musical
talent at all I can't be as eloquent as Blind dog's comments about Matt's
drumming. BUTT I also admire i.e. Kim as a person. I like his sense of humor
and his habit of saying what he thinks even if it is not necessarily the
"right" thing to say or what someone might want to hear. And Matt's good
judgement to read Somms or as it has come to be called, Unholy War mailing
list. toni

Hello Everyone!

I love this list so much, whenever I want to check up on new SG info I
click into the post and it automatically puts a smile on my face. But
lately my smile has turned to a frown all it seems we are doing is putting
people down. And even flaming people for reasons that don't even seem
relevant. I've even noticed people are unsigning from the list because of
all these cold wars. Which is very disappointing to me considering they
and we are all here for SG. We support the band and love them. I believe
that alot of people are being burned for their opinions and I feel that is
wrong. The Somms list is a good source of info for sg and people to send
in ideas and opinions. Lately it doesn't seem even pointless to mail in
threads or ideas, in fear that we will be flamed. And if you disagree with
someone, you can send it to the list if you want for everyone to read, but
don't you think if you want to bitch someone out you should do it
privately. Hope I didn't burst anyone's bubble. And I hope that everyone
that plans on flaming me thinks about it before they do so, for it's only
an opinion.

Since this is a SG list so I think this post is in dire need of related info!
On to much better things has anyone heard anything new on when SG are
getting back in the studio to put together there new album. As long as
they keep them coming I'll be happy!

Thanx,
  Rachel

Peace, Love Empathy

P.S. Caryn cool web pages, read through them this weekend. Really like the
PJ one! I'll write you later about it! I'm sure I could be a great source

I read an interview with Chris Cornell recently (don't ask me where or
which one) in which he said that they really don't like the idea of
releasing import singles with extra b-sides. He said that they do not
consider themselves a singles band anyway, but that the European label
insists on this from its artists and says that it is necessary for its
marketing.

IMO, in a musical way, "rock stars" should be an inspiration rather than a
role model to anyone. Music is an art form, and should be treated as such.
Inspiration from music (or musicians) that you love should breed creativity
in yourself, not imitation. Karaoke, anyone?

But as far as personally goes, NO, NO, NO! I hate to generalise so much,
but unfortunately, often with younger people, we try to emulate people in
bands or on tv, etc, when we're forgetting the point: they're really only
people at the end of the day, just like you or I. I'm sure that all the
members of SG (and any other band) have bad days, fuck up sometimes and make
mistakes and get hurt. Just like me. Just like anyone else. And
especially with SG, they seem to be just fairly regular guys, and would like
to be treated as such by everyone. The only thing that sets them apart from
the norm is that they have better jobs than a lot of us do!

I, too, received the excellent quality Soundgarden poster (Mercer Arena).
$10--woohoo! I was very impressed with how Tilt had placed such care
in shipping the poster as well. I also ordered a Kyuss poster for $10
("Dahlia" or something like that) which also exhibits beautiful and
vibrant colors of the lithos. (Beware that there is a major German
grammatical mistake on the Kyuss/Melvins poster!)

I was slightly bummed about the cost of getting the SG poster framed--
dry mount, matted, glass and ready-made frame--$80!!!! Maybe I was
ripped off. Who knows. But the framed poster sure looks impressive.
Ahhh, an investment to protect the beloved work of art.

Anyway, I highly recommend ordering from Tilt. They have a website
which was originally mentioned in one of Caryn's posts, I believe:

http://tiltpix.com/tilt/dist

Well, I'm off to order more before the folks in San Fran run out of
supplies!

I think the music during Hiro's time was much more heavy, almost droning
(as my husband has described it). There is a definite "dirge-like"
quality to alot of the Hiro stuff. I'm not saying that's bad - I love
this old stuff. But the feel is alot different than SG music now. I
agree with whoever said all his work is significant, especially because
the sound and feel are so different. I really think Ben's style has been
part of what has made the band so popular in recent years. Apparently
his sound is more marketable, and that's not bad either since I think
their stuff just gets better and better. Since I'm not a musician I
can't really compare them musically, this is just what I think.

Subject: I HAVE RETURNED!

Boy, guys! You'll never guess the reason I've been gone so long (uh, like ya
even care!)!!!! Well, here goes....

Well, b/c I've been so lucky as to have never seen a SG concert, I decided to
go to Seattle and make a plea for a SOMMS fest, just for us SOMMSters and no
one else, but like.... *really* soon! I know they just finished touring but
I thought maybe I'd start begging now... weeeeellll, I, the sneaky sleuth
that I am, found my way to the Cornell's door. Where I was greeted by a
bunch of dogs. Well, I love dogs! And these dogs loved me, I played w/ them
for awhile, and then I rang the doorbell. Well nobody answered, so I started
to leave... depressed as I was. Then I heard noise coming from inside, so I
went around and looked through a lower level window. You'll never guess what
I saw! Cancera the witch and Chris, Susan and Eddie! But, Susan and Eddie
weren't very happy! They were yelling and telling Chris no... I listened
closer....

"Chris!" hissed Cancera. "You can never smoke your Camels again! That is
unless you give me your voice! Do not listen to these imbecils! You NEED
the ciggarettes, you WANT the ciggarettes, you--"

"Alright! Alright! You can have my voice... I need those Camels.... to hell
w/ my singing career! Take my voice, Cancera." sighed Chris, frustrated.

"No, honey no! You don't need to smoke! You can do w/o it! Please!" cried
Susan, terrified.

"Listen to her! You can be the BETTER MAN, and ignore this witch!" said
Eddie.

"Silence, you fools!" cried Cancera. "Chrisssss, are you ready?"

"I-I-I gue---"

"Good! Then sing!"

Chris opened his mouth and sang.... "Mooooootheeeeeeeeerrrr wwwhhhooooo'sssss
your maaaaaaaaan? Is he doooooooing aaalllllllllll heeeeeee caaaaaaaaaaan?"
Chris kept singing.

Cancera cried, "Siiinnng to meeee! Siiinnng to meee, Chrrriiissss! Siiinnnng,
my angel of music (whoops wrong line!)!" And as she said this she started
pulling his voice away from him.... now, hell! I couldn't just stand there
and watch this happen! What did I do? Well, dammit, I went crashing through
that window, right on top of Cancera the witch. Well, then the spell was
broken, and she shriveled up into the shape of a blackened lung. Blech. We
threw her out, and the four of us celebrated over dinner! They were all so
happy, that they didn't want me to go home! But, of course, I said I
couldn't stay, and thanked them for their hospitality. Then, I went home!
Well, guess what! In all the confusion I never took any pictures, nor got
any autographs; I didn't even ask about the SOMMS fest! Silly me! I'm
sooooo forgetful.... ;-)

Oh, and if you don't believe that one, I suppose I could lie and tell you how
I was really sick w/ mono and haven't gone online in a looooong time! Ha,
like you'd believe that one!

One more thing guys! Didn't I invent this word? SOUNDGARDELICIOUS!!!!!!!
I'm so proud that people have started using this! Ha! I'm famous!
Wellll... it IS a cool word, isn't it?

"Remember I love you, love you"

love, lissa aka the one who used to be MIA =)

ps. the reason for my silly little story, is b/c well, I've never minded
smokers or smoking. I even let my friends smoke in the car, but, eh... if
it's gonna interfere w/ THE MAN'S voice, then hell! I sure hope he cuts
down! You guys have gotten me worried!

No, I don't consider them to be role models, nor do I think they should
try to be. BUTT that doesn't mean that it makes no difference to me what
kind of people they are. Maybe I should only care about the music in
spite of their beliefs or personal behavior. However, I think I would
find it difficult to remain a fan if I found out that any of the members
of Soundgarden were Neo-Nazis or wife beaters, for instance. I don't
expect them to be god-like, perfect people. I suppose though, that I do
want to feel that they are basically decent people. It would be hard
for me to continue to invest so much of my time and money in a band that
I think are a bunch of jerks.

Well just to clarify even more it was in reference to say anything..
the movie.
Which happened to have Soundgarden on the soudtrack but it wasn't in the
discography.
I ended up finding the cd soundtrack yesterday. I hadn't been looking for it
but was just flicking through the Sountrack section and saw it there and the
tracks are as follows:
Say Anything..
All for Love - Nancy wilson
cult of personality- Living colour
One big rush- joe satriani
You want it -cheap trick
Taste the pain- chilli peppers
In your eyes -peter gabriel
Stripped -depeche mode
Shakin to the beat -fishbone
Within your reach -the replacements
Keeping the dream alive -Freiheit

Well as you can see SG don't make an appearance but as I have heard they do
in the movie (i havn't seen it).
I wont say anymore b/c my lecture started 10 minutes ago, BYE.
