I've mentioned Goldmine quite often. It's a newspaper that runs classified
ads as well as ads from people who sell stuff--you have to see it tio
understand it, but it's called a collector's newspaper. I subscribe to it
and will bring in my latest one to post an address or whatever. I don't
recall if the have a web page or not! You don't order catalogs from
Goldmine--it's aplace where people who collect advertize or where little
businesses can advertize!

I've been an XFiles fan since the beginning! Yeah, the atmosphere would
lend itself well to Sg doing something. I've noticed a few episodes that
I'm sure were filmed near Seattle, and of course were labelled as other
cities. How 'bout the one w/ Jim Rose in it? Lolla tie-in! ciao....deb

I have no idea what Chris is driving now but a little bird told me that way
back when he was really big in saving the planet (just look at the song Hands
All Over) so he didn't drive anything but rode around on a bike. Well,
someone thought Chris's bike was so cool they let it star (along side Pee
Wee) in a movie. No lie, if you look at the end of the credits, in really
fine print, it tells who the bike belongs to. But the bike is no more
because when Chris found out where Pee Wee's hands had been, he had it
recycled into tuna cans. Also, Chris and SG were becoming more and more
known so he couldn't be seen crusing around on his bike anymore. That just
wouldn't live up to how people see him, you know what I mean?!?! Anyway, if
you don't believe me ask the little birdie who told me, okay!!! Take care
and be sweet!!

lose his drummer. anyone heard the song off of the lost highway cd,it's got

Chris vs corgan- chris multidemensional country(call me a dog)thrash(slaves

hard(jelly belly) soft(tonight tonight)

Chris vs Staley- no contest, maybe if layne wrote a quarter of the songs
that chris does than maybe but layne doesn't.

Chris vs Weiland-ha ha scott just started writing songs ha ha ha

Chris vs Cantrell-now here's a battle. both are geniuses, jerry has got to
get on his own but he will never amount to much because Chain's is

Did any UK SOMMSters catch a film on ITV, Wednesday night called 'Say
Anything'? Some Cameron Crowe film from 1989 with John Cusak...

Anyway... Film wasn't the best but the soundtrack was interesting...

Soundgarden were on with 'Flower' and 'Toybox', Mother Love Bone had 'Cloe
Dancer/Crown Of Thorns', Living Colour were on there, Fishbone, the
Replacements, the Chilli Peppers...

I mean - 1989??? Not the greatest time for decent music with all the pop crap
that dominated at the time... Around the inception of 'grunge' ;)

I don't know if the SG songs were on the soundtrack (if one was released), but
I didn't see it mentioned in the Releases section of Seths page.

Anyone have any idea?

Hello there kiddies!

I think that it would be a VERY good idea (since we may be in a SG
"downtime"), that we direct our collective energies to a more worthwhile
activity other than flaming Caryn or smashing The Pumpkins. How about
this?

Although I am not an expert in Egyptian culture and society, I feel that
the heavy metal fans' BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS have been violated. I am
trying carefully not to be ethnocentric and think that just because we
are Americans, and this would not be allowed in America (at least to a
certain degree), that Egypt should change it's policy and ascribe to our
way of thinking. I think that we, as intelligent (mostly) members of
music-appreciation should ban together and help others convince the
Egyptian government that what they are doing is fundamentally wrong!

We should all make a post and have it e-mailed to the Egyptian
government. How this could be accomplished, I am not sure. If someone
who deals with politics or any government agencies has access to an
appropriate E-mail address, it could be very helpful. Perhaps a common
petition that we could all "sign" by E-Mail.

What do you think Seth and Sommsters?

IT IS OUR CIVIC DUTY AS MUSIC LOVERS AND HUMAN BEINGS!

Love you all!

Chris

facts??? what facts?
talk to someone i knew in high school. the person they will describe to
you will in no way resemble who i am at age 33.

of course, if i became rich and famous, people who wouldn't even eat lunch
with me would be clamoring to claim they were my friend.

there was not ONE source in that rolling stone article who was attributed
by name who did not clearly have their own personal agenda. i have never
seen so many 'an unidenfitied source' attributions in one article in my
life.

i think chris is pissed because if it can happen to eddie, it can happen
to him. if rolling stone takes it into their head to do a slash story
about him, they most certainly could. there are plenty of jealous,
spiteful people in the seattle music scene who would happily speak off the
record (and especially where money is involved) and give you all sorts of
"dirt" about chris cornell.

i for one am always suspicious of people who claim to be close to famous
people who are so willing to tell you negative stories. if someone asked
you about a good friend of yours, would you only tell them bad stuff? i
don't think so.

chris, and michael stipe, and courtney, and others were angry because it
was such irresponsible journalism. write me the same article about eddie
vedder and give me sources, and we'll talk.

perhaps because of kim's ethnic background? i don't know, i'm just
suggesting. maybe he represented the band? maybe he was the only one
around that day? maybe he was the only one who had an opinion? i mean,
you know kim ;->

i think it's all a tempest in a teapot, because right now the islamic
fundamentalists are supressing EVERYONE in egypt who isn't one of them:
women, people who are too 'western', academics, people who speak out
against the fundamentalists, christians. hell, they even target tourists
- -- it's unbelievably dangerous for a tourist in egypt these past few years
(speaking as someone who has been there a few times).

i would imagine that amnesty international's web site has more information
about the egyptian situation, www.amnesty.org -- and it might be a good
idea for any potential letter-writers to educate themselves more thorougly
on the issues before writing.

i also find this VERY interesting, considering the amount of repression
and discrimination given heavy metal fans in the former eastern bloc
during the iron curtain years. heavy metal was *the* underground music,
and the government did all they could to supress it. i didn't see
soundgarden, or anyone else, getting involved then.....

Don't read.

Point1:
The mainstream pop media controls most of the music that is listened to
in this country. If anyone thinks that they have *not* been strongly
influenced by pop media, then I suggest a second moment to ponder that
thought... Ahem.. Buzz Clip's <coughing>

Point2: Arriving clinged to the back of what is termed 'popular art' in
America, was an unwritten clause... or claws... Think about it...
Popular art in America can produce many fortunes within the span of 5 -
8 years ( while it's still considered popular )... When the popular
media "discovers" or decides on the next popular trend, then it is their
job to promote it...

Point3: An inherent misconception, yet realism in Popular Music is the
need to always promote what is considered 'on the edge' music. The path
of music promoters is to searching vigourously for the next 'trend'.
As *soon* as the current trend shows the tiniest slowdown in sales, then
Popular music media will begin to *sell* you the next trend of music
you will listen to... i.e. they will strongly promote the new, "hip"
bands, and they will destroy the bands that, 2 years ago, were the major
deals.

Point4: What we are watching is the climax of the popular music
hurricane that struck Seatlle... PJ, SG and others, were just fucking
around and doing their thing, when the hurricane hit. Now it's moving
onto the next wave of music that it will promote... while trashing
everything it previously cherished...

Point5: All media is biased... Some more than others... Always look
for the angle of any article or publication.

Point6: Pop Music is based on nothing but cash $.
1994 Soundgarden/Superunkown = top seller, big bucks for everyone.
1996 Soundgarden/DOTU = "Even Soundgarden's self-produced 'Down on the
Upside' has been somewhat slighted by listeners who are tired of the
slimy, bland taste of Grunge"... - taken from a local article (M. Apple
editor? ;-)

The Eddie Vedder article is just a final sign that "it's over" for the
Seattle scene in terms of mainstream popularity... The band, Vedder and
all, who the media glorified as the "spokesband of a Generation" in 1992
is now the whipping boy of a new movement... The media has been really
waiting for the day to strike back at a whole scene that had rebelled
against them in the first place...

We're actually lucky to still have our bands... It's a pop scene that
likes to crucify and immortalize it's hero's... Elvis Presley, John
Lennon, Jim Morrisson, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Shannon Hoon, Andrew
Wood, James Dean, River Phoenix, Marilyn Monroe, the list goes on...
and it *will* go on...

Give Soundgarden and Pearl Jam a little time and pop will once again
embrace them, this time as 'legends'. They'll be the classic rock of
the 2000's... It's all a game of survival... {:-)

I was wondering where I could get some pictures of Soundgarden. I also
would like to know if there will be any type of tours or concerts coming
up.
