Found this in a magazine someone from New Zealand sent me:

- ---------------------------------------------------------------
So you bought Soundgarden's latest album when it was first released months
ago and now you find it's been re-issued with a bonus six-track CD as a
limited edition to mark the recent Big Day Out tour. This happened to me
recently with Leftfield's Leftism album; The week after I bought it, out it
came again with a bonus disc of remixes. Great that the extra tracks have
been made available but hard on the fan who bought the album in its original
form.

So what do all you first-in Soundgarden fans miss out on? The bonus track
has 'Jerry Garcia's Finger', an original demo of 'Birth Ritual', the video
version of 'Fell on Black Days' and a remix of 'Dusty'. Unless you're such a
fanatic you have to collect everything by Soundgarden, you could probably
live without these tracks, but it's still a nice little disc to have.

The real winners are those who have just recently taken an interest in
Soundgarden and are only just getting around to buying their last album. A
worthy bonus. But for the real fan it just means buying the album for a
second time....

and last summer while I was outside painting my back porch I had the tape in
and when it got to the above mentioned bridge I had to turn the volume way
down. We have many of Chicago's finest in our neighborhood and I just don't

might be some reprecussions. I wouldn't even play a song out loud that says

In a very unofficial experiment, I found that exposing my bassett hound to
high amounts of Badmotorfinger and Ultramega OK (anything bassy, really)
causes her to promptly fall asleep in front of the subwoofer. I have no
conclusion for this except that she is kind of mental, and must enjoy the
vibration.

NOTE: It has also been found that playing Soundgarden has been known to
cause the psychic newt (read: #25) to break into song, although no
explanation has been derived as of yet. The present hypothesis states that
many animals instinctively know what is cool and what is not. I tend to
agree with this statement, but I need to research it further by listening to
more Soundgarden.

Yes, the new album, entitled "MisterBunchyPants" is set to come out in
late fall. Here's what Kim said about it in a little blurb in the April Spin:
"This album is going to be almost all acoustic. Also, Chris only sings
on about one or two songs. For the rest of them, we use kitchen
appliances as the lead vocals. None of us did any of the writing either,
all the songs were written by Gavin Rossdale and Jason Everman... This is
definitely not the same 'Soundgarden Sound' fans are used to. We've
really played up the influence Yanni and the Spice Girls have had on our
music."

As for the box set, don't you already have it? It's got all their B-sides
and about 10 previously unreleased tracks. Check at your record store for

You know your obsessed with Soundgarden (or Chris) when:

You send Chris your favorite book thinking he might like to read it on the
long and boring plane ride back to Seattle from Hawaii. (it waited at Silver
Mgmt...probably in a pile with all the other special gifts fans have sent)

You wonder if he ever read it or even liked it. You even made him a special
hand made book mark out of match book covers with a poem you wrote about
Chris on it and your phone number hoping maybe he might get drunk some night
and call you if your lucky. (so far no luck)

Then you think that maybe you have a mental problem and your afraid KOTS
thinks you do too based on all the stupid shit youve wrote to them over the
years. (you didnt mean to say all that stuff, it just kinda happened that
way).

You never run out of things to post to SOMMS about.

Although learning french just to read a Soundgarden magazine article has me
beat UK Deb! =) (but that would be kinda fun)

Hey, did you know that the band drives the (Scooby Doo)'Mystery Machine'
van while touring sometimes? This is only because they solve mysteries in
their spare time. For example:

They were the first to find out Eddie Vedder was a vampire, but they keep
this info on the down low.

They also found out Chris Cornell is the devil himself, but they try to
keep this information hidden. Remember the intro to Searching With My Eye
Closed with all the barnyard sounds? Ya gotta wonder...

On a recent episode, they found out that Shroom was having a secret affair
with a basketball star that is on E. Vedder's favorite team(Dennis Rodman
guest stars.)

heheheheh....

I feel that a new album is still faraway, maybe a new home

one like that band that recently released one but I refuse to mention
their name because they have been discussed to much recently. Hey maybe
SG could release an anthology?? I'd give anything to hear the earliest
ver of JCP. But back to the b-sides thing, yeah it would save us alot of
money from dishing out 10 bucks for an import single that contains 1
song. I'm still kicking myself for bying the pretty noose single that had
Jerry garcias finger. And it turned out to be an instrumentle. damn.

no! </me stamps foot> you have it ALL wrong!

i have it from my super-secret sources (my cousin's sisters's brother's
friend lives next door from the guy who used to live down the street from
the guy who used to cut the hair of this barista who worked on the same
block as someone who once walked by silver management's front door) that
the members of soundgarden all drive *clown cars*. you know, those little
cars, you can fit a lot of people into them? chris has a red one, ben has
a green one with the roof cut off, kim has a purple one, matt has a yellow
one, and susan recently ordered some for her entire office - erin haley
also has a red one with a sunroof so that you can see her lovely hat while
she drives.

and for those of you who question my information -- you've obviously never
tried to park a car in downtown seattle! with this new measure,
instituted by susan silver, she can fit three cars into the space normally
taken up by one. think of the savings at the end of the month! she's not
soundgarden's manager for nothing!

nononono.... the weinermobile is being driven by one seth a. perlman.
this is his 'day job'. i know, you thought he was off being a web geek,
but what you also don't know that seth has already masted the secret to

Hey Everyone!

I just got done talking to my friend and apparantly he got Chris's phone
number, how I don't know!???! I asked her how but I guess she's not that
big of a SG fan so she didn't ask! But her cousin ended up talking to one
of Chris's brother for quite a while! And the great thing is that I'm
getting hooked up with her cousin, and he's become really good friends with
Chris's brother. And we all know what this means, I just might get to meet
Chris real soon, maybe even as soon as Spring break! I'll keep you all
posted!

Excuse me, but isn't this the Soundgarden mailing list? What exactly did
you expect to hear here Caryn? I would have been surprised and frankly
disappointed if everyone started raving about how much they love
Smashing Pumpkins. I thought Lorraine's post was far from offensive. I
found it to be well thought out and it expressed much of what I myself
feel about Soundgarden.

Although Caryn has a multitude of "favorite" bands, Soundgarden is far
and away my #1 favorite, and has been for almost 7 years. This doesn't
mean I don't like other music or that I think SG write the best music
and/or lyrics "of all time" or that they are the most talented people
"of all time". All it means is that for some reason they speak to my
soul. People on the SG mailing list should not have to defend themselves
for preferring SG. When I joined this list I thought "My God, finally a
place where I can talk openly about my feelings for SG and not draw
blank stares or open hostility". It really pisses me off that another
member of the list would do the very things I was trying to get away
from.

While I agree that we shouldn't compare bands (or any other form of
artistic expression) on a level of "who is the best", I don't think you
should expect all kinds of support for your other favorites from the
people on this list. I have always liked Aerosmith, a band that is often
cut down on the list. But, since this isn't the Aerosmith mailing list,
I don't get all up in arms about it.

I can't resist putting icing on the cake, so please read on...

Personally I WILL NOT LISTEN TO SMASHING PUMPKINS AND I AM PHYSICALLY
REPULSED BY BILLY CORGAN.

That, of course, is only my opinion.

QUESTION FOR ALL>>>> if YOU had chris'(or anyone of them, or any other
famous person you adore, but since this is a sg list, we'll stick to the
boys) phone number, would you actually call? and if so, what would you
say? me, well i don't think i could call, i don't even think i would want
to...there is a line (IMHO) between "rock stars" (famous people in
general) and fans...diving into the private part of their life just seems
awkward to me, and i'm sure it is for them too...they do all they need to
do for us when they make records and perform shows.
PLEASE NOTE!!!!!!! this is in NO WAY a flame, or an insult or intended to

Actually I think what makes Chris "marketable" has nothing to do with
being comfortable with being a celebrity - quite the contrary. I do
think his image has been very carefully developed and promoted, but
that's where Susan and Silver Management come in. The point I was trying
to make was that the "image" is not necessarily the man - the image was
developed and promoted by a talented manager. I really think we
underestimate the influence of management here, thinking the band does
all this stuff on their own. Hasn't anyone here ever done anything at
work that they really didn't agree with 100%, but that they were told to
do by management? As caryn pointed out, the fact that Chris and Susan
are married does not change the fact that she is his manager.

Teresa said:

I believe I referred to my mother as domineering, but the fact that you
find the term so unflattering just shows how differently we view men and
women as far as business goes. A domineering man would probably be seen
as "powerful" where a domineering woman is seen as a "bitch". In order
to be as successful as she is I'll bet Susan has had to be more than
domineering. So for all the Saint Susan talk of late I imagine Susan has
had to do some ball breaking to get to where she is, not to mention
getting the bands she manages to where they are. Unfortunately in our
male-dominated society that's usually the only way to do it (sorry
guys). Of course I don't know the woman, so I could be dead wrong. I
just think we sell her short by pretending she's this nicey-nicey person
when she's probably one of the most powerful women in music today (I'm
sure someone will let me know if I am wrong on this one). I'm not
cutting her down. And in her personal life she's probably a sweetheart,
but as a business woman she's gotta be tough as nails.

The most politcal song Chris ever wrote would have to be
Slaves&Bulldozers, thats directed more to the record indusrty types.
Since you are looking for a challenge how about Chris vs Perry Ferrel,
now both are gifted writers. Both are more on the poetic side, actually
Perry is more poetic than Chris, but I dont want to go anywhere, it is
good to debate on such things, each writer in there own right is good,
but you can never compare the two artist's. Or put any one on the level,
I'm sure each fan puts there favorite artist on a pedestal anyway. And
there hardly is room for another.

god, i am on a role today...
i think chris' lyrics and zach's are so different that it would not even
be fair to put them in the same ring...not because one is better than the
other, just *extremely* different...a different level of writing..boy,
this one is tough...reeeeealllllyy tough...tough like it will keep me up
thinking all night tough.

let me conclude like this...chris is best at the lyrics he writes...zach
is best at the lyrics he writes...what a cop out answer!!

i would like to add a "you know your obsessed..." if i may...when
one of the members (no names please) spits on you, and your HONORED--->think

the world of obsession, we would all carry chris to the bathroom right? (i

Subject: Zach vs Chris

I'm sorry I have to post one more time tonight, but hte Zach vs Chris
thing got to me. Heres how I have to put it. To compare both of their
lyrics, you would have to compare them on the same level, and there not
at the same level. They write about different things, and Zach altogether
is a sifferent kind of writer. Being that he is more of the political
writer. Chris on the other hand is more of a personal and poetic writer.
Zach writes about how bad the governments and the cops and whatever
armies from another country I cant think of, right now are. Chris tends
to write about black hole suns, overfloating and days he tried to live
and girls that are aging (Flower). Simply rage is a political band that
wants to and does, get their message across. Soundgarden is a band that
wants to please themselves musically and rock the stuffing out of us. In
my own opinion and how those to band pretain to my musical taste, they
are equally good at what they do and how they do it.
Thank you and goodnight

Unless I had a legitimate reason for calling, I don't think I would
invade his privacy that way.

I would try pretty damn hard to come up with a legitimate reason to
call if I had the phone number though...

Yes, this is the Soundgarden mailing list. The point is this: many
people (I'm guessing that perhaps it is even the majority of people)
on this list consider Soundgarden to be their favorite band. That's
great. However, when you are stating that Soundgarden is your
favorite, Soundgarden is great, Soundgarden is the best band in the
universe, or whatever, it doesn't make Soundgarden favoriter or
greater or bester when you stick in a "Smashing Pumpkins suck"
comment. In other words, cutting down another band does not make
Soundgarden any better. It just generates unnecessary, non-SG-related
traffic, because people then see it fit to continue a discussion not
just about Soundgarden, but also about whatever band got cut down.

> People on the SG mailing list should not have to defend themselves

No, of course not, but preferring SG is not best expressed by stating
a dislike for other bands.

I don't think other favorites should be the focus of discussion. If
someone mentions another band, feel free to email that person
*privately* and express your agreement or disagreement.

This message is not directed specifically at Kathie -- it's directed
at everyone.

this list should talk and rave about soundgarden, but not to the extent
where you are being offensive to music that other people might love as
much as you do soundgarden. which is what happened with the original post
that started this whole diatribe.

> Although Caryn has a multitude of "favorite" bands, Soundgarden is far

yes -- i admit it. I am a lesser mortal, i am not a worthy soundgarden
fan. how DARE you dismiss my love for the bands i listed. how DARE you.
you cannot even begin to KNOW what those bands have done for me. patti
smith saved my fucking life, quite literally. <shakes head>

so fucking what soundgarden is the only band you care about? that makes
you, or or your opinion, more valid than mine? that's fine. i could care
less.

this sentiment is really pointless, kathie. then again, i know you don't
consider seth a "worthy" soundgarden fan either, so i know i'm in good
company.

talk about how great soundgarden is and i will sit here and read it with
great interest. start trashing other bands -- not *comparing*, i mean
*trashing* -- and i would say that it is pointles and have no place here.
