Well, except for concert venues, merchandisers, concert promoters, the
record company, and people who sue the band.

MTV is a different animal, with their own agreement with record labels,
artists, etc.

However, TV networks & stations, get authorization to use licensed music
because they pay for an ASCAP/BMI license. This enables them to use protected
music for *non-profit* promotions and stuff like that (i.e. new stories, news
promos, show promos).

Subject: My say

Hey there kiddies. . .

My own input into the bootlegger/taper/pondscum/non-pondscum
controversy is, and I quote. . .

If music has a copywrite, then technically, it is illegal to copy it
FOR ANY REASON. Duh. (of course, just as in any legal document, there
are probably infinitessimal loopholes)
However, I have been told by authorities in the video business that if
you are copying a videotape for PERSONAL use and are not selling it at a
profit, there is nothing wrong with that. Of course, the video industry
as a whole would not accept this as their official stance.
Just ask your local videostores for a copy of Video Business or Video
Store magazines. There are listings in every issue of hundreds of video
stores and individuals busted for illegal pirating of copywrited
material. But, are these video stores doing it because they don't have
access to the materials for their own enjoyment? No! Most, if not
all, are doing it to sell them at a profit!
The point is (and there is one) that if you are copying a tape at no
PROFIT to yourself, then there should be no restrictions or ethical
implications involved. A tape trader's page would be a fantastic idea,
but certain guidelines should be set up. For instance, a maximum cost
should be assessed per tape to avoid overpricing (or underpricing). If
you generalize costs for everyone, then it is more difficult for someone
who is only doing it to make money to do so.

Love you all!

Chris

I've seen alot of people talk about the article about Chris Cornell, his
car, his dogs, and the writer with him. Why isn't this article on Seth's
page? I've looked for it.

May Soundgarden be with you.

Subject: Lorraine and Chris' car

Woops. I remember when this came up a few weeks ago, and I told someone
that Chris has a "gleaming silver Porshe Targa" from '78 (my very own
birth year). Well, I lied. See, he had that during the summer, I assume,
because that quotation about the Porshe came from Spin '96, but the Wise
OLD (23, baby!) Shroomus informed little me that Chris now drives a
MUSTANG!!!!!!! (for me, that's a yuck-I dated a guy with a Mustang, so
the memories are irritating.) Anyway, he has one, Susan has one. Shroomy
and I bet our lives, well maybe not our LIVES because we're sticking
around for that cloning thing to happen), but I'll bet Mariah Carey's
life that his Mustang is black. :)

I was also wondering what the business with the 90 is. I have
combed through most of Seth's site but have not found anything on this
matter. All I know is that Kim is wearing a 90 shirt in the FOBD video.
Could it have something to do with Andy Wood's death in 1990?

I heard from Soundgarden's most 'respectable' fan that Chris sold the
Porsche sometime last year (probably thanks to the number of hootchies
causing traffic accidents by leaping manically in front of every silver
Porsche on the West Seattle Freeway ;-)!)Now he drives a Mustang. But so
does Susan , so don't go throwing yourselves in front of the wrong one :-)

Y'know somethin'...she's right. I found this a bit hard to believe myself,
since that magazine - being Spin - was EVERYWHERE and I thought somebody must
have typed it up. But, I looked, and it wasn't there. Did ya'll need someone
to type it up or something...?

I checked out Shroom's compilation of "You know you're obsessed..." lines.
Well folks, it's official...

        WE'RE OBSESSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <<loud claps, shouts &
cheers>>

This calls for a celebration... ;)
