Look, I know this was probably written with a lot less seriousness than how
I treated it, but... i couldn't resist, nothing personal:

> and rushed right at SP. = ) wouldn't it have been funny to see kim

Considering Billy has stated MANY MANY MANY times in the past that he is in
fact a fan of Soundgarden's and respects them very much, it wouldn't be
funny at all. It would be like if they did that to you if you won an
award. What makes them different from you? If by some weird quirk Kim did
that to anyone I would absolutely have no respect for anything he's ever
done/said.

Besides the award is pointless. SP won because Mellon Collie was popular
this year (hell, half of you dislike Down on the Upside anyways). Just
like Soundgarden won the awards vs. Disarm a few years ago because
Superunknown was more popular than Siamese Dream. The grammy's mean
nothing. It's thrilling to see people win who you admire but it's all
pointless.

> hee, but really. where does bullet with butterfly wings even compare
> to the complexity and mood of PN?

Ummmm... I love Soundgarden's music, but I have to tell you all this but in
a lot of people's minds Chris Cornell is not the be all and end all in the
art of writing great lyrics. It may be a flaw in my genetic code or
something but Corgan's songs in my eyes are much much much more personal
than anything Cornell could ever ever write. So it's kind of an unfair way
to ask the question when nobody here cares about even delving into the
subject of what "Bullet With Butterfly Wings" might actually be about (and
we shouldn't cause it's way off topic).

> it doesn't even come close... but
> then again, since i'm not a high paid know-nothing judge, what say
> should i have anyway?

Who says all the judges are high paid know-nothing judges? They are
judges, they all enjoy different types of music, yes some of them are just
in it for the money but some of them not. And who are you to question
their opinions or votes? Sounds like you are jealous and want to be one of
the judges yourself.

> mind riot (laughing at james iha's ridiculous hair...)

I think James is too.

Look, I know it's really cool to hate Smashing Pumpkins for some weird
reason. But let's have a little respect for all aspects of music around.
If someone likes Celine Dion and feels the power of her songs, that's
great. It's hard coming to this group to share musical experiences about
Soundgarden with people who criticize a bunch of other bands who are as
near and dear to your heart as Soundgarden.

Well, after reading about the Grammys and all that I have only one
thing to say:

			SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It sucks cuz Soundgarden didn't win an award, but I didnt even get
to see Chris and Susan :( I had to work, to tell you the truth, I didn't
even KNOW the Grammys were last night. Damnit..oh well. Heheh...ask
yourselves, does it REALLY matter, anyway? I mean, we know Soundgarden
rocks. They dont need a little brass statue thinger to prove that.
Grammy or no Grammy, people who listen to Soundgarden will listen to
Soundgarden cuz they rock and not cuz they won any awards..hell..I
dunno..it would be nice if they got some recognition for DOTU
though..but..ahh.
This whole Ben Shepherd thing: Sure he picks fights and spits on
people and kicks them, but think of Head Down, Somewhere, Face Pollution,
Slaves & Bulldozers, Zero Chance, Dusty, Never Named, Switch Opens (HEY, I
LIKE that song), An Unkind..the list goes on...(I'm kinda rusty in my
Soundgardenisms, so if I got any of those wrong...uh..let me know) :) I
know that if I was in a band with someone who had songwriting skills like
that, I wouldn't be so quick to kick him out. ...I also as a fan don't
want Ben to leave either. Sure I'm a bass player and I dream of playing
with Soundgarden :), but..I dunno. I love Ben :)

All of these "Note to" messages should be limited to the private realm.
Chastising people in public only embarrasses them and results in 3-4
more bickering messages being sent to everyone. Attacking people's
*comments*
and sparing the wise ass personal attacks is also of good practice.

well, the grammy's kinda sucked. The only highlights were seeing Chris on
MTV (looking absolutely delicious) saying that the band will be recording
quite soon and catching a quick glimplse of Chris and Susan when Toni Braxton
when her award. They were sitting right behind her and I kept hoping maybe
she' d win again so I could see Chris!! Didn't even show a live shot during
their category (that sucked)...didn't see the rest of the band either! But,
Chris did look good and he promises more music so I guess the night wasn't a
total loss.

well, i must say that i just read my first issue of the Soundgarden Digest
(Thursday, 27 Feb. 1997) and find the comments in there extremely
repeatative. Please people. But i may as well follow the "format" i see in
this digest:

My first concert ever was a Soundgarden show. It was absolutly wonderful.
I was completely in love with Chris Cornell and new that that night would be
special. i had a great time. The mosh was wonderful (a wonderful as a mosh
can be). But then the next week I found out that Chris Cornell was married
to his manager (LUCKY BITCH!). That was a couple of years ago though, but i
still I hold a dear interst and respect for them (and a complete adoration
for Chris).
So, If anyone has some INTERSTING new about Soundgarden, I would be happy to
hear it...other than that......

Hi guys and dolls!

I've got a couple of questions. Does anyone have the grammy pre-show that
was on MTV on tape? How about the 1994-95 grammy's?
As for last night's grammy's.....the grammy's really don't show anything. I
particularly don't like most of the "BIG" award show's anyway, because
everyone goes in their with their favorites in mind, and couldn't give a shit
about anyone else. In my mind I think that if Burden in my Hand was
nominated, then there would have been a chance. Burden in my hand was more
popular than Pretty Noose. A friend of mine told me that they won something
in the Pre-award show. I'll have to watch the tape again to check that out.

'nother question. For all of you out there that knows....do you know where I
can pick Kerrang up? I've been dyin' to read that mag.
Also, how do you get into #somms?

That's enough for now,
the original pretty noose

hey, that's cool, that's fine. i happen to think CC is the best
lyric writer around, you don't have to agree, i don't care. and you
can compare the two songs and wonder what they're both about.
musicians write songs to be heard and interpreted by whoever listens

Greetings fellow Soundgarden freaks! I'm baaaaaaaaaaaack!! How the hell has
everyone been while I was wallowing in my deep computer-deprived funk? Well,
I got my computer back yesterday... for GOOD this time. I know I've missed a
whole bunch of stuff... like last nights Grammy's, damn me.

Nope, I didn't see Chris. Nope, I didn't see Susan. But (shoot me now) I
*did* get to see Uncle Fester and his untalented go-go dancers perform (and I
use that word lightly) one of their MTV-butt-kissing-favorite songs. I hate
the Grammy's, I hate them, I hate them. Margret... PLEASE tell me that you
taped the show last night. I'd really like to make some snaps of Chris &
Susan from it.

I'm sure you're all dying to hear what I've been doing with my downtime,
hmmm? Well, last week Susan sent Soundgarden's private jet down here to pick
me up and bring me to Seattle. (I had no idea that you could feasibly put a
hot tub in a jet, either.) When I arrived, she whisked me off to a lovely
dinner at her mother's house... damn, Jean can cook pasta like no one I've
ever met. Later Susan brought me to her office, and showed me the
super-ultramega-secret room where she keeps all the naked pictures of Chris
and Matt and Ben. There wasn't any of Kim though, because he's still
refusing to take off his pants for a camera. Something about his chicken
legs... she didn't elaborate, and I didn't ask. Hey... were you people aware
that Matt has a double jointed... oh wait, I promised I wouldn't mention
that. Never mind. Anyway, after she showed me many pictures of Chris
(ranging from his paper mache fetish to his Keebler Elf costume)... we went
back to her and Chris' house for a tasty beverage before the limo came to
take me back to the airport. Unfortunately Chris got home from riding his
motorcycle about a half hour earlier than Susan had thought he would, and he
walked in on Susan and I giggling over a certain picture that she had given
me for a souvenir (it was of Chris and Dave Navarro... there was a lot of
whipped cream, naked flesh, and liquid latex in the shot). Needless to say,
he was mightily upset... and he threw a hissy fit right in their living room.
You've never lived until you've witnessed Chris stomping his feet, throwing
his hands in the air, and shrieking "You got that picture from the bottom of
my underwear drawer, didn't you Susan?!? No one is allowed to see Dave
naked, but me and Monet!! I feel so VIOLATED!" I was about to ask if he had
any naked pictures of Stoney, when Susan broke in and said that maybe it
would be best if I left then. Somehow I think she was really regretting
showing me everything she did. Well, maybe not all of the pictures... but
some of those videos WERE pretty raunchy. Who would've guessed that Chris
was so flexible and liked to perform obsene acts with stuffed animals?
Anyway, she was really really nice about the whole thing and very
apologetic... but she told me that she was probably never going to be allowed
to speak to me again, and that I should pretend that we'd never met if I see
her in the future. Since she was such a wonderful woman, I agreed. I even
returned the picture of Chris and Dave to her. What can I say? I'm nice
like that. (Prozac... get this woman some Prozac!)
</me blows kisses to Silver Mgmt>

Anyway, I know that I'm waaaaaaaay waaaaaaaaaay behind on my e-mail, but I'll
catch up as soon as I can. Superhuge thanks to everyone for cheering me up
and sharing pictures of Chris with me. (Luvs to UKDeb especially. ;-)

I was watching the pre-grammy show on MTV, and they interviewed Chris
Cornell. It was one of the better interviews. They asked what Soundgarden was
doing now and Chris said they just got back from Austrailia and that they
might start recording now. Then the guy told Chris it looked like he was
getting a tan and Chris scratched his stomac and said "Yeah... well you know
those tanning booths in Austrailia (or something like that) I laughed all

Then during the Grammys some black lady was getting an award and sitting

Soundgarden... But for anyone who has always wanted to see Susan just get a

have won like 20 awards for that album. The thing I don't get is that they
won for Best ROCK Performance when they just got finished doing Techno.
Yes, Bullets and Butterflywings is a rock song, but you can't tell me
(after I heard there new song on the radio) that there not Techno.

Cause I fell on black day's. I fell on black day's.

I was listening to the radio this morning. Washington/Baltimore WHFS 99.1 was
talking about the Grammy nominees on the Morning Product. I don't recall the
DJs name, but he said that he talked to Matt Cameron after the awards and
asked how he felt about Soundgarden's award nomination. He said (correct me
if I'm wrong) that he feels like the Susan Lucci of the Grammys. I thought
that was cute.

they're not techno. jeez, gimme a break. the band that builds walls of
guitars so big they are skyscrapers throws one synth in and now they're
*techno*?

i for one can completely believe that soundgarden lost. remember what i
tried to explain about the grammy voting pattern? the voting members of
the academy are for the large part boring old farts who haven't turned on
the radio since 1972. they see a name that is familiar to them or from
the trade rags, they vote for it. i mean, c'mon, beck for 'best male
vocal'??! all due props to the man for being an innovator and doing
something way differenet, but that song had NO VOCALS in it.

again, beck is the flavor du jour, so they voted for it.

when i was back in junior high my father forbid me to watch the grammys in
the same room with him because i was so incensed at the results. i take
it far less personally now... c'mon, look at how laid back chris and susan
were. they were tan, they were relaxed, they looked maaaahvelous.
obviously the band didn't take the ceremony that seriously because only
the two of them went. what did chris say in the pre-show:"if they want to
give me another one of these, i'll be happy to take it".

to defend andy dunn, who i will admit is my friend, his point was this:
it's okay to love sg and not love another band, but there's no need to
trash the other band in order to raise sg up. it was unnecessary to
brutually trash a band which is his favorite (and is a favorite of others
on this list) to make your point. it was irrelevant. sense of humor had
nothing to do with it. i didn't take it personally and i just found it
ignorant.

soundgarden didn't win, smashing pumpkins did, so what.

Hey...

Well, real big surprises last night. All in all I thought the whole thing
was pretty boring, but there were a few good performances. I really
liked Beck's - he's got a lot of presence. Who else? I can't really
think of any right now.
I had a feeling the smashing pumpkins might win, they seem to be
the darlings of the music industry right now. But I was pretty certain
that PN would get it. Yes, BWBW *is* a good song... but it doesn't
hold a candle to PN - a song that's both musically and lyrically
brilliant and proves that Chris isn't just a singer, songwriter &
musician, but a true poet.
But I'm not really upset that they didn't win - like I said before,
winning a grammy doesn't prove anything - what I'm upset about is
the fact that I sat through the whole thing, just to get a glimpse of
them - and all for nothing! At least I saw AIC - for a split second.
And I did see CC interviewed on mtv just before it started.
Somebody said they saw him when Toni I-think-my-dress-is-about-
to-fall-off Braxton went up to accept her award. Damn it! Now I
wish I'd stayed and watched, but as soon as I heard her name I had
to leave, the fear of throwing up was just too great.

So anyway... to all the people who are really disappointed that they
didn't win - remember, Celine Dion won record of the year, Toni
won about a dozen awards - would SG really want to be in their
company?

That's all for now...

Well, looks like the Hard Rock category was a load of shit.
It is a huge shame that the Smashing Pumpkins won, but you can't
really blame the judges. They are just a bunch of out of
touch executives who base their decisions on what's popular, not
necessarily what's good. The "suprise" nomination of Beck
is not that suprising at all, seeing how Odelay got a shitload
of media attention.

Getting back to the category at hand, here is why it was a crock
of shit: Not only did Soundgarden get denied, which I had a feeling
would happen since PN has that "ugly" feel (refer back to May/June
96 digests), but still kicks ass. However, I thought it was high
time that Rage got some industry recognition, and "Bulls on Parade"
was just the track to do it. It is intense, rythmic, and, the
thing that really matters, had immense popularity. THEY should
have won, not the Shitty Sounding Pumpkins (if you saw their
performance, you'll know what I mean)

Also, I missed HYPE at the cinemas, now it's been released on video to buy,

substantial enough, like how often do they actually appear in the video???

Thanks for any suggestions!

aic are not in the video at all, aside from a brief shot of layne staley

	Hi there,

Who says it is cool to hate the Smashing Pumpkins? I actually quite enjoy

WOW! look at this one, gang:

http://tiltpix.com/tilt/dist/kozik/sound.html

this is a poster that was allegedly done for the mercer arena shows here
in seattle, end of the tour in december. i NEVER saw one of these around
town -- which means that if they were distributed, no one ever put them
up. (i guess if someone came into my store and offered me a kozik poster,
it'd go right home with me too).

anyway, you can mail order the poster -- they don't have the unicorn
poster, which is what i was looking for -- for $10, plus $6.50 shipping
and handling. not bad for such a gorgeous piece of work.

and we all know how much kozik's work appreciates. go buy one!

the only problem i have is this web site that his stuff is being sold on
sucks big time. difficult navigation, visually ugly, the works. it would
be so nice if he had his own web page....

Watched the Grammys last night. Very boring, anyone who didn't watch it did
not miss much.

I DID like Jewel's dress when she presented the Best Hard Rock Performance,
until I noticed the fact that it was QUITE transparent. Woah, girlie! There
is such a thing as a bra!

I found the Metal Hammer magazine with Chris on the cover a while ago, but
never until a few nights ago had the chance to look at it. WOAH BABY! One
*mighty fine* picture of Ben's ass displayed on *one entire page*. The back
of his shirt is lifting up and showing one large, tender chunk of pale flesh
while the tight black leather pants perfectly display his round, hard ass as
his legs are splayed in the akward manner that only Ben Shepherd can make
seem graceful. Ha cha cha! I've been thinking about blowing it up and hanging
it over my bed...=)

What I'M REALLY looking for is a picture of Ben without his shirt on...I
would KILL for one. I want one as bad as Shroom wants a pic of Chris in his
birthday suit! It's driving me nuts, imaging the hair distribution, hoping he
has THE FUZZ, mentally tracing my fingers over his pale chest and stomach -
ooooooooh. This could get nasty...

I should really stop talking about this now, shouldn't I...? =)

I'm off to look at Ben's butt!!!!!

Sorry, I can't remember who wrote the post about a girl saying that Chris
Cornell hit on her - my computer kicked me off before I could save it.

My reply: I SERIOUSLY doubt that any guy with three Pomeranians named
Pancake, Howdy, and Bunky would hit on anyone other than his gorgeous wife.
She's obviously lying.

Plus, I have a Badmotorfinger cassette that I play in my car since I don't
have a CD player in there, and I just noticed a few weeks ago that it has a
typo on it. Side 2 (I think) says it was produced in 19912 instead of 1991.
Does anyone else have this typo on their cassette? This has been puzzling me
for quite some time now.

NOW back Ben's butt,

well, i just went to the hype! website -- it is still playing in the US, and
video release is slated for "this spring or summer". i guess it went to
video in australia because it was easier than trying to get distribution.

anyway, in the us, it's playing a LOT of locations. they're also doing a
release to colleges, and the full schedule is here:

and of course you can get to the rest of the site (very cool, i might add,

susan silver is an exceptional business woman who
not only managed soundgarden to the top, but also alice in chains (and
they seem like a pretty difficult bunch to manage, but i love them
