Subject: SG's troubles.

I don't really know how to say this, but I think that SG should just get rid
of Ben. I've thought this way for a while and their quarrels in Hawaii only
further cause me to believe this. The man is just consumed by hostility. I
can't imagine why, but he is obviously causing some commotion. I've never
heard anything good said about Ben at concerts. He's always spitting or
hitting/kicking at the crowd. He doesn't really seem to care about the
fans. His personality seems to conflict with everyone else and eventually
someone is going to snap. I don't want to see SG break up. I know none of
us do, but if the problem can be traced to a band member, then the problem
can be solved. Fire him. Maybe being in a band isn't the thing for Ben.
Maybe he would be happier and calmer doing something else or being in
another band. It's quite evident to all of us I think, that SG could find
another bass player. After all, Ben isn't a founding member.

I guess what I'm saying is, they should fire Ben if he doesn't change his
attitude.

I don't mean to offend anyone. That is not my intention, but this is my
opinion.

May Soundgarden be with you.

Subject: sg breakup bullshit

okay... there are a bunch of really intelligent people on here. don't you
know when 'alternative radio' is just playing you? they have nothing else
to talk about, so they take a stupid outburst by ben at the LAST SHOW of a
grueling tour and turn it into "SOUNDGARDEN IS BREAKING UP!!!"

toni's description of being at work at 4:30 am was right on the money to
me. jeez, they were TIRED, they wanted to go home, those shows got added
at the last minute... of course they were cranky. even chris looked
tired. i couldn't blame them. hell, when i travel on the road for a week
i'm ready to sleep for four days when i get back.

you can't just get rid of one member and expect it not to break up the
band. that's as ludicrous as the theory voiced a few years ago that
pearl jam should just get rid of eddie vedder and get another vocalist.
soundgarden just need some time apart, and a vacation, and some sleep, and
some fun. when you live together 24-7 for months on end with someone they
are going to get on your nerves eventually.

soundgarden are not breaking up because of one little tiff in hawaii. ben
has a temper, so fucking what (yes, this is ME saying this). that's no
reason to toss him from the band like he's a hired session musician, and i
doubt sg would be as cavalier as some of you have been about it.

i don't know. it just seems perfectly natural to me and hardly a cause
for panic. then again, sg breaking up would be fucking awful, but the
world would not end. it would not. the list wouldn't die, the page would
go on, they would go on to other projects, we'd have wonderful memories of
great music. far better the four of them be happy at what they're doing..

There's a SG boot somewhere called 'Acoustic Pollution' which I'll just
assume contains... acoustic stuff. I have no idea what's on it though, since
it isn't listed in Steve's bootleg discog.

yeah, but SG gets money for the official stuff 'Come Together' is released
on, like the 'Hands all Over' singles, so basically Mr. Jackson would get
some money for any of these singles sold.

and about SG 'breaking up', I have to agree with Caryn. I seriously couldn't
believe what some people on this list had to say about it. I know that there
are enough people here, smart enough not to believe everything the media
feeds them. Ben throws tantrums on stage, he spits at the crowd and he yells
at his roadie, so it wouldn't surprise me in the least, if he got into huge
arguments with fellow band members from time to time; and anyone, who thinks
this is the first time Ben and any SG member have argued, is very naive.
This is just the first time it was witnessed by several people, it somehow
leaked out.. and the next thing you know, the media takes this tiny bit of
info, and blows it out of proportion. 'Ooooohhhhh, Ben and Kim were verbally
bashing each other, and SG isn't touring after this, so they must be
breaking up'. C'mon people, you know SG better than that, and you also know
that firing any one band member isn't a solution. The only solution is a
little break far away from each other.

Caryn was right. All of this talk about Soundgarden breaking up...why would
they? What reasons do they have?

They've been around for about 12 years now, and have done a VERY good job of
making sure to keep out of each other's hair when there's tension, or else
they wouldn't be here now! Ben's been with them since the summer of '90, and
must have good qualities in him if they've stayed friends for so long. That's
what people overlook in Ben, I think. They go straight for the way he acts on
stage (and sometimes off) but they fail to think of the fact that he's been
friends with these people since he was in his teens! If he was really the
asshole everyone deems him to be, I'm sure the rest of the boys would want
nothing to do with him.

Ok kiddies, I went to this thing and it was so cool! If you've ever seen
Hype!, Charles Peterson is the guy with all the photos around him, and when
they talk to him, he shows a Kurt Cobain photo. Tonight, Charles was there
at the gallery, and I talked to him for a few minutes. He's really a cool
guy, kind of shy. He was very nice about autographs and I got him to
autograph my 'Screaming Life' book (not the SG ep, the Screaming Life book
about Seattle with his pics in it). He was also selling the book there, so
if you're looking for it in the Chicago area, you know where to get it.
There was no Sg photos there, just PJ/Nirvana stuff. But I did tell him
about our little list, and he gave me his address and phone #. So if any
of you want to buy any SG photos, email me and I'll give you the address.
I won't post it here because I don't think he wants to get millions of
calls. His stuff is VERY pricey though (maybe I just don't know that much
about art prices), but the photos are amazing! He went on tour with PJ in
Europe this year and has tons of stuff on that, and also Nirvana pictures.
They were also giving away free postcards w/ Peterson's photos on them, so
I picked up a few. I got 2 Nirvana ones that I'll give away to anyone who
wants them. If I get a lot of names, I'll draw from a hat. All in all, it
was a very cool night!

hey there guys...

lissa's not doing so well. I haven't posted in a while.... my friends died
in a horrible car crash this past Tuesday night. I haven't done much since.
I had been around nobody until tonight, so I was not really upset except for
the initial shock. Well, then I went to calling hours... I came out of that
funeral home running, I could barely breathe! I kept thinking-- that wasn't
her, it didn't even look like her. My God, this isn't happening. People,
all I have to say is Say Hello 2 Heaven kept me going... damn at least
someone feels my pain. At times I'm really mad at them, they were driving 80
mph w/ no seat belts and *supposedly* toking a little reefer (so to speak).
Guys, this is not a good driving combination. Please, all of you, wear your
God damn seatbelts when you drive!!!!! I don't ever want to go through this
pain again, EVER! I've been walking around in daze and I haven't eaten
anything in a couple of days. And in my house, that's hard to do (my parents
are from Italy, my mom cooks 5 course meals every freakin' day!)!!! Well, I
just wanted to tell everyone that I'm still alive (ha, like ya noticed I was
gone) and to be careful when you drive, PLEASE!!!

On a better note, I want to tell Brydon, do not feel guilty, send them
whenever, honey!! And everyone who's got me searching (w/ my good eye open,
I promise) for stuff at the collector's fair, don't fret, I'm still going. I
heard a commercial for it on the radio, boasting things like VINYL, BOOTLEGS,
RARITIES (fresh deadly maybe?), AND ANYTHING A MUSIC FAN COULD EVER WANT TO
FIND!!!! So, I'm figuring (actually hoping to God) that we're in the clear
here guys!! Oh, and by the way, if any of you (some of you have already told
me) have a price limit, tell me immediately!! I mean ASAP!! B/c the fair is
tomm. (Sunday). I'd email you all individually, but it's easier this way...

one more thing... sweet God in heaven, but www.gemm.com works fucking fast!!!
I ordered the calendar last week (yeah, I know a teensy bit late) and I got
it yesterday!! Holy crap! And by the way, who made Chris so adorable?
Bless Mr. and Mrs. Cornell, they deserve sainthood!! What a beautiful,
creative, talented man! Yikes, I'm really sick in the head.... sorry guys...
(sheepish smile).

"Remember kids, buckle up for your safety!" Dammit, I mean it guys!!! Do
it!!!

"Hard headed, fuck you all!" Don't be like that, wear the damn things!!!!!
Or you'll me messy mass of mush headed!!!!!

love, lissa =) (nice clean thoughts, eh?)

Hey...

As far as the whole SNL TV aptitude issue goes, I really had no
problem w/ their performance. Sure, it wasn't their best, but all in
all I thought it was pretty damn good, considering Chris was having
problems w/ his voice. "Pretty Noose" is one of the toughest
to sing, I would imagine, and I think he pulled it off pretty well.
And BIMH was great. I'm just happy I got to hear them play 2 of
my favorite songs on national tv. They have plenty of "TV aptitude."
They're not a flashy band, their music speaks for itself. I think that's
a really refreshing thing to see on tv. But if they choose not to do
many tv appearances, I respect that, and like I said before, I'd
prefer seeing them live to seeing them on tv any day.

I do kinda have to agree w/ whoever said they can't picture SG
sitting still for long enough to do an unplugged. It sure would be fun
to see 'em try though... I can just picture Ben getting mad and
smashing all the furniture, spitting at the camera people & knocking
over all the candles. But I loved both Nirvana and AIC unplugged,
it's true that some songs are *better* that way, and I really do wish
SG would do it, someday.

Whoever asked what sort of a song we'd write if we could write
one for SG... it's interesting you should bring that up. I recently
wrote a poem about a boy who's parents get divorced after his
father writes a book and his mother decides she wants to become
an actress, and it's written through the eyes of the boy, who's about
10 or 11. It was inspired by something that happened to one of my
friends, but before I wrote it I'd been listening to "Ty Cobb" a lot.
And after I read it a couple times, I thought, "Hey... this would
make a good punk song..." because it's actually about something
serious that happened but it's written in a very sarcastic way. And
I think that I was inadvertently influenced by SG to write it. So...
that's my song.

That's all for now...

People,

I can assure you that Soundgarden is *NOT* breaking up, I repeat, not
breaking up. They are all on good terms with each other. And what was said
earlier about their breakup was just media hype. This information comes from
the top.

And regarding the Ben-Kim deal, they were not the ones fighting. I remind you
that Ben is a big part of Soundgarden, and is not leaving the band, as well
as Kim. Also along the lines of Ben being "psycho", since when did a short
temper make you psycho? Pardon me while I get defensive, but some can say
that I have a short temper as well, does that make me a psycho? I hardly
think so.

I saw Soundgarden about 5 times between 1991 and 1992 and during that
time they really didn't talk much to the audience at all. I don't think
it had anything to do with being nervous, I just think it wasn't Chris'
style at the time. They interacted nonverbally with the audience, but the
usual concert "banter" was all but absent. We were lucky if he said
anything the whole concert. When I saw them this past fall in Chicago I
was pretty amazed at how much they had grown as performers - alot more
"showmanship" and verbal stuff. I do think it has to do with having more
confidence in themselves. I think it took them a really long time to
believe that people actually like them and their music as much as we do.
Or maybe they just have more to say now. I think they saw themselves as
outsiders and maybe felt stupid talking to this big bunch of strangers.
Maybe its sinking in now how important they are to us, so they feel more
connected to us. I haven't decided which I like better, though - quiet or
talkative. Its neat hearing what they have to say, but it was pretty
unique to see a band that didn't feel the need to carry on a conversation
with the audience. Kind of like small talk - it can be nice, but its also
kind of cool when you don't feel you have to do it.

Not that it matters, but I think this is wrong. Kurt was born the day before
me February 24, 1967. We are exactly 24 hours apart in age.

I'd like to go on record and say that personally I'd kill for them to do an
unplugged show. I think Chris knows damn well their stuff would sound awesome
unplugged. With their musical dexterity they could make anything sound good.
Hell look at black cat, nothing but bells with some blues chords thrown in.

Throw in "Flutter Girl", "Angel on Fire", "Heartfist", and a few cuts from
TOTD, plus Blind Dogs, and you'd have an album that would blow the face off
of music.

Aaaaahhhhhhhhhh if only................

Am I the only one out there who can *truly* see that Ben is just as important
and just as special as the other three members in Soundgarden? Or does
everyone else think that just because Ben isn't Matt or a founding member
that the rest of the guys should say "Fuck you, Ben. You spit on one more
person and you leave. You pick one more fight with any of us and you leave."
Keep in mind that Ben isn't the only one who's ever started a fight or
insulted the audience. I don't think it's fair that Ben be shrugged off as
someone to fill in for a future bassist. EVERY member of the band is just as
important as the other.

Thank you to everyone who has helped me stick up for Ben,
Benlover
