The only real complaints I had with the SNL performance were the
vocals during Pretty Noose, which seemed like it was probably a problem
with the monitors. If Chris couldn't hear himself it would have been
hard for him to sing well.
Well, there are other songs I would rather have heard. However that's more
a question of choice of material rather than of TV aptitude.

Yes, yes, yes, I can see this!! Bernard could definitely handle SG music.
I'll be so happy when Powederfinger music is available to the world outside
of Australia. I would also like to see Chris handling a few of the
Powderfinger number - in fact I would love to hear him cover "Pick You Up"

Just a quickie...

In this week's Kerrang!, Kim did the K! Challenge and scored a mighty
20 out of 25 (one of the highest scores I think) even tho he had some
illegal help from Matt (who got most of his answers wrong!)

They usually do the challenge along with a big interview so hopefully,
there'll be some good, up-to-date material coming real soon!

Cheers!

we'd like to see other bands do...

Kyuss - Maybe something off Badmotorfinger. I'm not sure what
though..hmm..Or maybe Let Me Drown..I don't know but I know Kyuss covering
a Soundgarden song would be way cool :>

Jawbox - Again I'm not really sure but I could maybe see JBX doing
Somewhere..or Limo Wreck. I dunno :)

Ben Folds Five - that could be especially interesting considering they
substitute a piano for a guitar. Spoonman, maybe? I'm drawing an SG
blank right now.

Oh well, gonna go hop on the web, and about SG breaking up?
That's too depressing to think about :>

I have an extra copy of Down Under on the Upside. The case is
slightly cracked on the inside (the middle piece is wobbly), but other

I really hope someone here knows the answer to this because it is robbing me
of sleep. Here's the situation. My friend who is a giant Beatlemaniac
recently informed me that Micheal Jackson owns the rights to most of the
Beatles' songs. I have the bad feeling that the list includes Come Together,
and unless I am way off base here, that means that Jacko gets royalties off
the sale of any disc that Soundgarden's cover of that song appears on.
SACRILEGE!!!!!!!!! I don't know how you feel about this, but it just

Wow,

I was just watching the show, "the naked truth" on TV because I'm in love
with Tea Leoni, and I think they must have mentioned Soundgarden like 15
times.
The boss in the show comes in with some new facial hair... everyone is
puzzelled until a guy in the office says that, of course it's cool, look
at the singer for soundgarden. They work as writers for a tabloid and
the one writer does an article on the facial hair... the boss goes on to
comment, "I read the article about Soundvision..." Tea interupts and
corrects him, "soundgarden"
Boss: "soundvision, beergarden, it's all the same!"
Hell yeah it is! BEERGARDEN FOREVER AFTER!!!!!!
Sounds like a new thread... If I could write a song for soundgarden, what
would it be?
Mine would be Beergarden...
anyone else?
Just thought I'd share,

The website seems to be back to its usual state, complete with plenty
of [An error occurred while processing this directive] messages and

server hardware turned out to be a fiasco, so after nearly 3 days of
trying to get it to work, the sgi.net folks pulled the plug on the
operation and moved everything back to the old hardware. So, in
summary, nothing has changed. :)

Anyway, I've just received word that they want to move the SG site to

would receive the full attention of their tech support staff, so it
would go smoothly. The move would result in a URL change, tentatively

after the other. Soundgarden (of course,) R.E.M, Rush (a couple of bad
albums but generally speaking,) are my choices. PJ's last couple of albums
didn't really yank my crank and some Metallica albums aren't really so hot.
Oh yeah, if Soundgarden ever did an unplugged they'd have to do Johnny

I couldn't agree with you more. It's practically impossible to see them all
calm and cool in that type of place. I don't think you would have to wait
untill the middle of their set for them to start laughing either. With them
after the first few notes they would be on the ground with laughter. And
there would be absolutly no way for Ben to sit still that long, or any other

I would have to agree that I would love to see SG do an unplugged. I
don't think that they would be selling out in any way in doing this.
If that was the case then AIC, Pearl Jam and Nirvana sold out long ago
when they did the show. Chris was asked in an online MTV interview if a
Unplugged would be in SG future and he said no that he didn't think they
had the sound or music to pull it off. BULLSHIT CHRIS. They would do a
kick ass show! If this was ever to happen I wold like to hear...

1. Hunted Down 11. Fresh Trendils
2. All You Lies 12.4th Of July
3. Beyond The Wheel. 13.Fell On Black Days
4. Uncovered. 14. The Day I Tried To Live
5. Somewhere 15. Mailman
6. Searching With My Good Eye Closed.16. Black Hole Sun
7. Room A Thousand Years Wide. 17. She Likes Suprises
8. Drawing Flies. 18. Thighter And Thighter
9. Holy Water. 19. Overfloater
10. Limo Wreck 20. No Attention
                                     21. Pretty Noose
                                     22. Blow Up The Outside World

I tried to condense my list of songs but I couldn't choose between any
of them. But all these songs would be cool to hear unplugged. In AIC
case some of the songs I perfer the unplugged version to the original.
According to Chris we may never find out. But SG also said that they
would never do live tv but they did SNL because of Jim Carrey. Maybe
with a little bit of bribery SG could be convinced to show case their
talents on MTV's Unplugged stage. Maybe they could get the Ramones or
somebody that SG looks up to to do one first. All we can do is wait
patiently....
And if the rumors are true, God, Please don't let them be, about SG
breaking up then we never will know. Does anyone have any new info on
this? I am going to have night mares for weeks now. Although I think
it would be a little funny to see Kim and Chris duking it out don't you
think. As long as they made up as soon as it was over.
Hey new thread... Who do you think would win in a fight between Chris
and Kim or Ben and Matt or any other combination of the quartet. I know
this is in bad taste. Just trying to livin' up the list with a new

Subject: Soundgarden split - the real story

I'll tell you how Soundgarden will end...Matt, tired of Ben's tantrums,
Chris' whining and Kim being it all a know-all, will one day suddenly SNAP.
The sound of Mailman on his walkman, he'll burst into their rehearsal
studio, screaming ' I FUCKING *HATE* BEING THE NICE ONE!!!'and beat them all
to death with his drum sticks.

The city of Seattle will go into deep mourning...July 20th will become a
national holiday...Susan decides after all these years she's finally fed up
with wearing black and feels she's an 'Spring' person...and then the rumours
will start.....

They're not dead. They've faked their own deaths and gone into hiding
because they hate touring so much. Ben has supposedly joined the moonies and
finally finds inner peace. Matt has disappeared to Norway and now plays
bongoes in an obscure jazz trio. Kim - of course - has reversed his sex
change and once again becomes Kimberly, exotic dancer. Chris and Susan have
retired to Hawaii to breed poms...

This turns out to be true because, despite going blond and wearing a false
nose in public, Chris can't resist whipping off his shirt and flashing his
pecs and he recognised by Shroom who is visiting Hawaii on pilgrimage to the
last place they played...but by then the rest of us have all subscribed to
the Spice Girls mailing list (run by Seth.)

Twenty years later they finally make a comeback tour with Kiss supporting.
It's a sellout ;-)

Subject: my rambling discourse

Hey...

First of all... AIC's lead singer isn't named Stan Layne. It's *Layne
Stayley.*

Anyway... I'd really like to see SG do an unplugged, but CC has
said that he doesn't think SG's is the type of music that should be
performed acoustically. But can think of several songs that would
sound great, or at least interesting, unplugged. A lot of my favorites -
BUTOW, BIMH, and esp "Head Down" - that one would be
beautiful. "Ty Cobb" I think would be great. Also "Boot Camp,"
"Zero Chance," "Dusty," FOBD.... Who knows, it *could* happen.
I'd also love to see them on Letterman, but I guess that's just not
in the cards. It's no great tragedy if they never end up doing any of
those things, I'd much rather see them perform live again. But I
certainly don't consider any of those things "selling out."

Somebody said they hate the idea of anyone covering SG songs.
Personally, I love it, as long as the ones doing the covers are worthy.
There's tons of songs I'd love to hear Hole cover - BUTOW,
"Pretty Noose," definately "Ty Cobb," BIMH, "No Attention,"
"Limo Wreck," "Mailman," "Head Down," TDITTL, "Outshined"...
I'd love David Bowie to do BUTOW and "Boot Camp"... somebody
mentioned Sublime doing "Drawing Flies" - that would be great...
and there's lots more. It's really an honor when a band is so
well respected and admired that other bands/singers want to play
their songs.

And as far as the break up rumors go... I don't really want to
address them, but I guess I've got to. It really doesn't mean much
that they were fighting... that's just natural. It's true that you can't
expect people who are constantly together not to get on eachother's
nerves once in a while. Obviously they're going to disagree and get
pissed at eachother sometimes, and there's nothing wrong w/ that.
But I can't imagine why people who work so wonderfully together,
who are so great at what they do and obviously love doing it, and
constitute the greatet band ever in the history of the world would
ever even think of breaking up. You know how the media is...
whoever started the rumor was probably just trying to start trouble.

That's all for now... (and sorry so long)

PS - Kesa... thanx for the compliment, that was so nice of you to
say. :)
PSS - Last I heard, transexuals *don't* qualify as a race. ;)

The last updated date on the main page is a variable that is
automatically set any time the file is saved -- I don't update it
manually. The truth is that I haven't updated the site since Feb 13,
like it says in New Damage, but because the main page was copied back
to the server yesterday, the MODIFIED_DATE variable was set to Feb
19. Now it's Feb 20, because I just removed the link to the tour stuff
and the Song of the Month; both of those sections seem to have
disappeared during the move. They should be back soon.

Hey List!

Just wanted to tell all the list nuts (myself included ;) that the
Australian/NZ Down Under on the Upside (DUotU) is a very nifty release.
Those that were fortunate to get a copy already (/me waves to tomorrow) know
how cool this looks. If you have some money to blow :-) Check it out... If
you must decide between ramean and mac n cheese for a month or this
disk...you gotta eat sometime...go for the food. This package is special
and nifty..but not that important. The only song I didnt have was "Dusty
(Moby Remix)...which I think is super cool !!! Everything else is available
via import.

Some differences between the US and this release are...the CD itself is more
purple. The second CD is cherry red, but has the same motif as the regular
cd artwork. There is extra Polydor markings on the booklet, CD and case.
The binding contains a 2CD mark just like somms itself. But this two CD
holder doesnt hold the CD's like a regular holder. They just sort of sit in
a circular holder...not really griping...so naturally I've dropped the
regular CD twice now :-) Other than that...the other nifty thing is the
warning sticker that appear on the outside of the case. "This recording
contains explicit language which may cause offence" :-) Thanks Tipper
Gore...for the chuckle :-) Those of you that don't know who Tipper Gore
is... She'll be the next US presidential first lady in 2000 and back in the
early 80's she helped form the PMRC. Way too long of a story....

And to continue a thread that out beloved list admin started back in
may/june of last year....just how many copies of DotU must a person own?
When is too many too much? I have the following and um...I think I have
supported the SG soundscan totals way past my limit :-)

pre release cassette
CD digipak
cassette
clear vinyl
black vinyl
australian/new zealand tour edition

Is there anyone that has both the US CD digipak and the US CD jewel box? In
addition to all the other releases? Hat's off (to Roy Harper) to ya :-)
....If you do...you have them all unless there is some weird promo thing
that has slipped through the cracks...

Hey, there were a couple SG references on NBC's "The Naked Truth"
tonight. One of the characters was growing a "soul patch." You know, that
little bit o hair below the lower lip? Anyway, they kept comparing it to
the lead singer of soundgarden and the guitarist of soundgarden.
Seems to me that chris and kim sport a bit more facial hair than a soul
patch, but who can argue with a little bit of mainstream recognition.

normally I'm more interested in opening my inbox than I am in
opening my snailmail post box (unless a lister is sending me

address earlier this week. I faintly remember a group of u.s listers
mentioning that they received kots fanclub stuff out of the blue last
year, and the same thing happened to me.

from memory, the soundgarden "propaganda" seemed roughly similar
to the package you receive when you send in your hard-earned $2. the
christmas card was kind of cool in a novelty kind of way and the dotu
phonecard/fanclub id was also cool (albeit a little of centre). sadly the
newsletter was a bit out of date, but I didn't expect anything more.

anyhow, I was just wondering if any other australian listers have
received this bolt from the blue? mine was sent on january 7th.

other ramblings: friends at skinnys record store here in brisbane
will soon be getting copies of our photo with the band. hopefully we'll
get our copy sooner than that.

btw, chris? is it just me or is there something wrong with your
wwc homepage? I've tried it a couple of times, but I'm getting an access
error. the unofficial homepage's _releases_ section also seems to have
gone walkabout <motioning to listadmin>.

seems like everyone is having technical problems these days...

GNR did a splendid "Big Dumb Sex" on "the Spaghetti Incident?" and of
course Cash's "Rusty Cage" is boss... are there any other recorded covers
of SG songs? Anybody? Bueller?

Ideas...

Faith No More would do a bitchin' "New Damage." (See "War Pigs.")

They Might Be Giants could kick the hell out of "Half."

And I'm personally a little cheezed that "Outshined" didn't make it on to
Pat Boone's new metal record "In a Metal Mood." What does Dio have that SG
doesn't? (That was more or less a joke.)

WOW! Is it just me, or did my mailbox suddenly explode with posts? Keep up
the good work, everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!! (sorry if I sound like the lady at the

Big Ben! I stand to correct you! (hope you don't mind =)

You're quite right, Chris and Kim do have *just a bit* more facial hair than
a soul patch (and I'm glad they do - it's just a ridiculous little 'I tried,
but I couldn't quite make it' kind of thing - no offense to any of you who do
have one =). But, to make it even MORE ridiculous, it was not Kim he
mentioned, I believe it was "the bassist of Soundgarden" that was mentioned.
(aka BEN!) Now, I'm sorry, but I think it's just a bit offeneding (to me
anyway - but I do have a few 'tendencies' when it comes to the recognition of
Mr. Shepherd =) that someone dare suggest he ever ruin that gorgeous pale
face by adding ANY kind of facial hair. It's the kind of thing that keeps me
up at night, lying there, hoping, wondering if the guy with the best ass in
the world will be overtaken by some kind of temporary insanity and decide to
grow, ugh, facial hair.

Speaking of facial hair, I looked at the cover of Rolling Stone or Spin or
something like that (I don't pay too much attention those kind of things) and
guess who was on it? Trent Reznor. And guess what he has grown? A GOATEE. One
suspiciously like the one that adorns the face of our beloved vocalist. I
wonder if Chris has seen this, and if he thinks the same way I do...or even
more importantly, if he even cares...

UKDeb - I *love* the pom-breeding twist. Perfect. =)

I have a stupid suggestion of a thread - if all the guys in Soundgarden got
into a fight, which one do you think would win?????

One last little thing...about Soundgarden being nominated for the live
performance of Pretty Noose. Why? I mean, it's a great song, and we all love
it and anything else by Soundgarden, but I think most of us agree that Pretty
Noose has some kind of curse on it or something. It's never particularly best
performed live. Why are those people who pick these nominees looking there,
instead of someplace else? Some other song performed by Soundgarden? I'm
sure, even though Pretty Noose live kicks the asses of 98% other "bands'" (I
won't mention the B-word) music, period, that if they looked somewhere else
they might find their skin crawling with delight.

Too bad the common public can't see what a treasure these for men are. Then
again, it's probably best they didn't. Leave fluffy music to fluffy people, I
say! We can have Soundgarden all to ourselves, because we know the right way
to play with their toys and we put them away when we're done. =) Okay, so
I'm not exactly "all here" tonight.

SO SORRY for the long post,
Benlover

                            WHY NOT?

This is not the best band in the WORLD?

I think I know where you guys are coming from. They are an electric band
is how I
(interperit?) it. Basically they couldn't DO an acoustic set. As a BAND?
                                               WHY???

If they tried to do the songs note for note, no, they couldn't. But that's
( to me)
not how they would do it. Kim couldn't do his solos. SO WHAT.
Change them. He does anyway. Chris couldn't sing them?

                        Yeah
                       RIGHT!!!

                      Tell me again WHY NOT?

Maybe the band ,as a band, wouldn't want to do it. But if they wanted
to.......
