wah, i really need to see them again. = ( oh well, we should have a
new album soon, like next summer maybe. that's good. = ) but hearing
about the hawaiian ben explosion, this may just be a great thing that
the summer tour is cancelled. now, what about those tickets that the
Chicago station was giving away for "any where on SG's 97 US tour" ???

Just so ya know, if anyone doesnt yet have "Hello, we are Soundgarden" the
guy at Mosh video was real speedy at sending it once he got my $$.

Its not bad. All the Superunknown vid's are off the cd rom in case you
already have that. But the live stuff and the ToTD song is cool.

Question for the day: What does the "90" shirt mean??
Question #2: Know where I can get any Soundgarden posters??

You know, up until I saw your post I was firmly in the lots of new albums
camp. But you're right, Carolyn, Soundgarden live is an awe inspiring
thing. And I know when I go for a while without seeing them (like I did
while I was busy having my kids) I start jonesing. But, knowing how they
feel about touring, I guess I would rather have them continue recording
and not tour if the choice was between that and nothing. I consider
myself very lucky for having been able to see them as often as I have.
I'm also glad I was able to see them several times before all the "hype"
started, when they were still relatively unknown.

I would hate to never be able to see them perform live again, but deep
inside I know that's a real possibility. Thanks for a passionate
endorsement for SG live:)

Hello everyone! For once I have something to say other than just gibberish!
If anyone of you, or anyone you know lives close enough to Syracuse, NY,
listen up. There, on February 23rd, a Sunday, is the NY cd & records
collector's fair. According to the woman who owns the local used cd shop,
and is also one of the main distributors from the fair, I NEED TO GO, if I'm
a SG fan. So, eh, I'm going. Can you blame me? But, now I'm telling you
guys, in case any of you live close enough to go. It's from 10:00 am to 5:00
pm and it costs $4 to get in. It's at the Ramada Inn (7th North and Buckley
Rd.). If anyone has any more questions, email me. If anyone has anything
they want me to look for, email me. If anyone wants me to perform sexual
acts for money, email me. If anyone wants to me to die a slow and painful
death, email me. Did I mention I like mail...?

Remember, if you have something you want me to look for (Lisa B, they have vid
eos, too) make sure you don't wait too long to email me. Thanks a bunch!

Did that count for SG content??? I hope so. They're supposed to have
everything there, from bootlegs to box sets to vinyls. I'm so psyched about
going. I'm gonna have to withdraw cash from my measly bank account... all
two dollars. Maybe if one of you go, I'll actually be able to meet someone
face to face that likes SG as much as I do!! What a change from around here.

Question: do you guys that buy vinyls, buy them purely for collector's
purposes or is it something I should look into? B/c I don't want them just
to look at them, I just want more, more, MORE SG music!!! If there's
something else there, tell me please. Much appreciated.

OK, that's it for now, I know you're all terribly disappointed that I finally
decided to shut up. Heh, heh, heh (copyright Shroom, and when's she coming
back, dammit? I'm gonna kill IBM!), I love to TORTURE!! Muaah, ah,
aaaaaaaah!!!

well.... i am just speaking for me, though i know there are others like me:
i like vinyl. i *prefer* vinyl. i still have my vinyl collection, i never
traded it over into cd. i still buy vinyl, if a new release is available on
vinyl i usually buy it (unless there are bonus tracks on the cd, and it's
usually the other way around).

i like the smell, i like the feel, i like looking at a record cover. i just
think that vinyl is the coolest and I MISS IT.

i guess that wasn't your question. most of the vinyl that's been spoken of
recently doesn't have different music on it, it's just another color or
version. but me, i was DELIGHTED to buy BMF on vinyl. ;-) never mind that
i have three copies of it (bmf on cd, bmf/somms on cd, and LP). either you
have an affinity/liking for vinyl or you don't...

and then there are people who collect vinyl just to have One Of Everything.
that's cool too.

Hello everyone. I'm new to the list and thought I'd post and introduce
myself as well as contribute some cool links. My name is Tracy and I live
and work in Washington, DC. I have been reading the digests to get a feel
for the group, and I've noticed many of you are vinyl fans. There are
several stores in my area that carry vinyl and they have web pages.

http://members.aol.com/yatrec/private/index.htm Yesterday and Today
Records
They have *lots* of vinyl, promo CD singles and picture discs. Not
everything is listed on the web page so e-mail them with specific requests.

http://vinylink.ari.net/ Vinyl Ink Records
They carry vinyl and CDs. They are constantly receiving new stuff so
consider getting on their mailing list.

http://www.cdjoint.com/ The Sound Garden
They carry new and used CDs, books, calendars, and some vinyl. Their catalog
is confusing so it's probably best to call with specific questions. There's
a blurb on the welcome page about the grievance filed against them "by the
popular Seattle band, Soundgarden."

Subject: Alive In The Superunknown, Goldmine, & BHS #1

I've known about the Alive In The Superunknown CD+ for a while, but I'd seen
alot of different prices for it so I decided to wait until I could find the
cheapest one. I think I found it so I ordered and I got it! I love it. I
had to go on a bit of a scavenger hunt to find some things that were really
right in front of me the whole time. :)

I've been looking through the Goldmine magazine and I haven't found anything
by Soundgarden in it. Am I just not looking in the right places? I've
never seen any CDs, videos, or posters.

This is really bothering me so I'm asking you guys and hoping you can tell
me the answer. On the BHS #1 single, right before the live version of
"Kickstand" Chris is talking to the crowd. He says "Thank you" and then
right after that is he saying "This is a song about the weather" or "Sorry
about the weather?" Now I know that "Kickstand" probably couldn't be about
the weather :), but it sure does sound like he says "song." Then again he
says "Last time we were here we couldn't even play. This is some make-up
show." So people, I'm asking you, what's he saying? It's driving me crazy.

May Soundgarden be with you.

Subject: used my inspiration for a guillotine...

during the last week I've had a little time to myself, so I spent
it wisely and listened to soundgarden. ah, that's not out of the ordinary,
you might be saying, but this time there was more of a purpose. during an
interview with _modern drummer_, matt mentions that he missed a drum while
recording the song 'flower', and which was subsequently left on the
record. I've always wondered where this might be, but I haven't been able
to locate it.

well, after a couple of close listens and gentle nudgings from
seth, I think I may have it. at 1:19, there is this weird rimshot sort of
thing, where matt hits the rim rather than the drum skin. I imagine that
is the one he is talking about, because up until that point all the beats
had been full snare rather than something fancy-shmancy...

...but in order to nail it down, I listened to the whole song
quite a few times, and there was another section which may hold the
elusive mis-hit. at roughly 3:06, there is a beat which may or may not be
a miss. at the start of his roll, there is an extra 'donk' which doesn't
sound like it should be there. this one is fairly dodgy, however, because
who am I to say that a particular hit shouldn't be there?

but then again, his exact words were "totally missed a drum", so
it might be impossible to ever guess where it was supposed to be. that
doesn't quite rule out the first one I mentioned, but I suppose I'll never
know. any other listers know more than me?

lastly, just for those matt geeks who haven't been reading their
_modern drummer_ magazines of late, matt is currently using dw 5000ah
delta accelerator bass-drum pedals. his current drumheads are remo in this
order: snare - emperor coated/ambassador snare; bass - ambassador coated
powerstroke 3 ebony w/hole; and toms - emperor coated/ ambassador clear.

That would be Sonic Youth's 'Death Valley 69' if I remember
correctly. SY wrote the music, and Lydia Lunch and SY co-wrote the
lyrics. Originally recorded in 1984 in New York and released on 7"
with SY's 'Brave Men Run (In My Family)' [My So Called Records #17].

The "miss" is indeed the rim click at 1:19. The thing at 3:06 is just
part of the fill.

And not to second guess you, Blind Dog, but I think Matt is using the
Delta Turbo model as opposed to the Delta Accelerator. The Accelerator is
designed in such a way that the beater actually "speeds up" towards the
head when you press the pedal, while the Turbo beater moves at a constant
velocity. The Turbo model is much more powerful and accurate. :)

Subject: even MORE Chicago pics
From: seth <saperl@MIT.EDU>

By popular request (read: Eliza's nagging [*grin*]) I've added another
5 photos from Chicago, all taken by Toni. I also split the section
into 3 separate pages: one page for what was there as of yesterday,
one for Bonnie's photos, and one for Toni's photos (which include the
best group shot I've seen so far).

Subject: I need you building bridges in my way...(ha! get that one, perlman!)

I've just finished reading the kroq radio interview with chris and
a couple of interesting things came up. I thought I might post them,
since eliza has now started talking to herself and everyone else has
fallen asleep <baiting 600 sommsters>.

the first of these was that soundgarden signed a seven record deal
with a&m (I didn't know this). I count four records so far, which means
they still have another three records to go on their current contract. I
know that's not earth-shattering news, but it made me smile. and if the
tale that soundgarden is finished touring for the year is indeed true, we
could see one of those new albums on our turntables by the end of this
year.

the other thing was that chris spoke of a b-side compilation which
could be in u.s stores some time in the near future. he said that even
though they were tired of being forced to find extra tracks for european
releases, they want to put all the extras together and release them
domestically (because "I think our fans here deserve to hear them more").
perhaps it will be akin to the smashing pumpkins' box set. much like the
next album, if they are left at home doing nothing, this could come around
that much sooner.

lastly (and this may have already been said before), chris
mackenzie has announced that the first full-length wellwater conspiracy
record will be released on march 11. I noticed that joe greenwald said it
would not be released in europe. that is all well and good, but what about
down here in australia? any thoughts, chris? it would be a shame if I
had to import it.
