Well, I figured I better get in on at least a couple of these threads that
have been going around on the list. For the "Song that did it for me" thread,
I would have to say it was "Rusty Cage" that really got me hooked. The first
Soundgarden song I ever heard was "Hands All Over", and I thought that it was
really cool, but it wasn't until "Rusty Cage" that I really REALLY got into
them. And on the "Sexiest Song" thread, I would have to agree with Lance and
say "All Night Thing". That is just a really smooth song. But for just a
hardcore SEXiest song, I would have to say "Big Dumb Sex". Even though the
song is a parody of a sex song, it still has just a raw, primal quality to it
that makes you feel DIRTY. (and that is a good thing!) Well, I just thought I
would throw my ideas at 'cha.

I don't see how anyone could think Chris Cornell is ugly! Especially
after hearing the beauty and power of Soundgarden's music. I mean, don't
you think that spiritual beauty is part of what makes him so attractive?
I do. Maybe for some people it's all physical, but for me it's all tied
together.

Today I was listening to BMF at work, and I was so struck by some of
the lyrics that I had to take a break and just live the music or
something. This is even though I have heard the same lyrics hundreds of
times.

"I don't remember half the time
if I'm hiding or I'm lost
 But I'm on my way"

don't have to go over there and break some kneecaps over this. Just a

Hey everybody. It's gonna kick ass when SG come around for their '97
tour which i hope they actually do. The Nov. 9th show they did here was
awesome. I just wish I could've met the band like the rest of you that went.
Also, for Bleed Together, i was playing in standard tuning, not the other
one whoever replied to me mentioned. By the way, is anyone else going to the

For me, I don't have to be in any particular mood to listen to SG, the
music itself puts me in those moods. It's so powerful that if I listen
to 4th of July on a sunny day when I'm feeling happy it has the power to
make me feel depressed and sleepy and calm. All of Sg's music does that
for me.
*To all of the people that replied about the interview - it's coming, I
promise! Be patient!

And a question - today I found a BUTOW single on green coloured vinyl,
and I was wondering just how many of these are actually out there. There
were a couple more in the shop, so if anyone is DESPERATE for one it
*MAY* be possible.

From: DunWei@aol.com
Subject: Random ramblings

Hey guys, wuzzup...
I haven't posted in months - just sitting back and reading.
I don't know if I'm late on this thread or what, but it is SG related
(unlike, unfortunately, some of the latest posts).
Here goes:
Songs I skip over: "No Attention" and "FOBD (demo version)". When I first
heard "No Attention" on Self Pollution Radio, I didn't really like it. When
I heard it on DOTU, I REALLY didn't like it. It seems inferior, (at least
musically), to SG's other songs, because of the groove factor. Most of SG's
groove-oriented songs are either crunchy and/or choppy, or else revolve
around a rubbery bass line that dips and swoops. A prime example, I think,
of a good groove based song is "Girl U Want". That song's backbeat just
piledrives me into the ground. "No Attention", on the other hand, just seems
to miss the groove. I dunno...I just get the slight auditory feeling of
dislocation or something.
The demo version of "FOBD", while certainly interesting, doesn't really match
the stripped away version on Superunknown. It seems clumsy and weighted
down.
On the other hand, I couldn't believe that people were dissing on
"Kickstand", "Half", and "BUTOW". "Kickstand", while certainly not
outstanding track of the year, is a nice, short, manic burst of energy. It
even brings me back to the BMF days, sometimes.
I remember someone, during this past summer, dissing on "Half" and how it
sounded all "weird and Indian-like". That's the reason I do like it. I think
it's great that Chris is cool (and secure) enough to let someone else
write/sing songs on the albums. Some people just don't like diversity, I
guess.
Being a big Beatles fan (as I'm sure the guys in SG are), I was ecstatic that
Chris employed the wavery vocals on "BUTOW". It totally reminded me of
Lennon's vocals on the Beatles' later albums. Every time that track comes
on, I feel like Chris is singing to me underwater, or through some thick fog.
 It's an incredible experience.
So, having admitted my profound love of the song, I have 1 thing to say to
fans who don't like it:

Whatchoo talkin' bout, Willis?!

What gives?! It's a great song! Ahh...to each his own...
I think it's great that SG is able to conjure up such diverse elements/moods
on their songs/albums. BMF, for instance, has the aforementioned manic
energy that seeps throughout the album. The music blazes along, propelled by
the spear-like thrusting of Chris' higher registers. SU, on the other hand,
is dark, brooding, and rhythmic. Ben, Chris, and Kim's massive riffs anchore
the groove, while Matt's wild caveman swinging (and careful knocking about)
hammers the whole thing home. And on DOTU, the whole ambient/atmospheric
vibe is totally awesome. Listening to the latter part of the album while
just lying on your bed half asleep is an unparalled experience. Whenever I do
that I feel like a feather, just curling and floating among the musical ebbs
and flows of SG's incredible music.
OK, I need to get off the drugs...
Thanks for listening to me ramble, but SG is SO AWESOME, and they're 1 of the
few bands that have actually improved over the years/albums, and ya know...
See ya,
Dun-Wei

I listen to SG mostly always. My mood only dictates which CD I am going
to listen to. When I am a little down or just feel like kicking back and
relaxing I will usually put on SU, Alive in the SU, or DOTU. When I'm
pissed off or doing something like cleaning the house or just want
something with a bit more energy to it BMF, LTL, OLTOK. Why would you
have to listen to another band when this one provides it all.

I to find myself in a rut with music. I have to force myself to listen
to something else. Usually it is Alice in Chains' Sap which just so
happens to have Chris' vocals to one of the songs. But a slight
different type of music.

Songs that make me HAPPY? Probley Birth Ritual, All Your Lies, Power
Trip, all of BMF, Like Suicide, TDITTL, FOBD, My Wave, MM, Limo Wreck,
Tighter and Tighter, and Seasons. Why do all these songs make me happy
even though half of them are depressing as hell? Because there my
favorite SG songs and depressing or not when I hear outside of my home
as well as inside I get really happy and excited.

Funny SG songs. I don't find the songs themselves that funny
usually-with a couple of exceptions. The stories behind or that go along
with a particular song can be funny at times. Or the song will make you
think of something the band members said or did. I always think about
this article I read about Chris getting in a fight with his European
beer because he couldn't open it. It was a very funny article. After
cussing and fussing at it for a couple of minutes he ended up stabbing
it with his knife and it spilt all over him. The tour manager that was
in the room at the time said (this is not verbatim) "Good job now it is
all over your pants." And like the true smart ass we have all grown to
love and admire replys.."Atleast now it is doing something besides
sitting in the God Damn can." I thought it was funny.

I gotta go and see if there is anything new on Seths web page.
And I'm lost behind, words I'll never find.-CC "Seasons"

question: what mood do you have to be to listen to soundgarden...

well lets see, considering i am a mood-less blob most of the time, the
question should be, what mood does soundgarden put ME IN...simply, they
make me happy, i find thier music to be the best therapy on
earth...dr.cornell, dr. cameron, dr. thayil and dr. shepherd always
seem to be able to ease my psychopathic tendencies...you know when i feel
like "blowing up the outside world", i just pop in the cd and i am
immediately at ease, calmed, relaxed...hearing dr. cornell express my mad
thoughts in such a wonderful way always takes me far away from yucky
reality.
now that you all think i'm nuts...the following songs always gurantee a
smile on my face...full on kevin's mom, no attention, head down, big dumb
sex (funny funny funny!!) beyond the wheel (good screaming, releases
frustrations) and well every other song they sing...

thanks for listening to otherwise useless information about my life...

Just wanted to warn everybody about these guys - they suck!! They don't
actually have the stuff in their catalog, except for the shirts I'm told.
They have to order the rest of it. If you order from these guys, basically
you'll wait about 6-8 weeks to get a yellow slip of paper that tells you
they couldn't get what you wanted. I don't think they refund money either.
I ordered about 6 SG things from them, and all I got was a BMF keychain,
and a yellow slip for the rest. Just wanted to save you all some time.

A good alternative would be Goldmine, Caryn mentioned it before.

I agree that Kickstand's a rockin song. I don't know what Chris wrote it
about, but to me it's simply getting pissed off about getting stood up on a
date. For me it's one bitch in particular, who stood me up twice, then
asked me out again and stood me up again!! (Pretty Noose??) The lyrics
with relevance to me are:

Kickstand, you got loose and I threw up..( this one's kind of sexual, so I
won't elaborate)

So do it right
do it right
come stand me up (obvious)
come stand me up

...I got the urge to ride your trike (another sexual undertone)

It's a great stress reliever for me, anybody else who has been stood up
recently should try listening to it with this in mind.

Just thought I'd share my disturbed thoughts on the matter.

No, really congratulations Seth. You've done so much with that site, I find
a dozen new things on it every time I go. Great job!

And thanks for supplying a mailing list so all SG fans can talk to each other
every day and find out important and new info. Hey, that's what we're
supposed to talk about on SOMMS? Seriously, guys, when I joined SOMMS I was
so excited my hands shook on the mouse as I checked the mail everyday. This
was the coolest things I had ever seen! And it still is, I look forward to
it every day. But there is one thing that saddens me. As a newbie, I have
not felt hurt, insulted, or left out. I have never been flamed. And I
thought I wrote my thoughts down in posts. And I'm sure that I've probably
asked a million ridiculous questions not thinking about it. But, no one's
let me have it. I don't think that we're all as bad as we think. I like
everyone on here, EVERYONE. Let's just take advantage, as I've said before,
of our common bond, SG, and forget our differences. This may sound like a
cheesy 'love everybody' message, and it kind of is, but people, let's at
least try to get along. I'm sure that at least everyone on here has
something important or special or unique to say about the band. And just
like it's been said a million times before, if you don't like it, IGNORE IT.
I've only been here a couple of weeks, but I know not to take anything
insulting to heart. And I know by writing this, I'm not ignoring it, but we
need some help, before Seth shuts us down, starts unsubbing people, etc. I
just hope that we can put things like this in the past and begin talking
about the greatest band in the whole world.

Phew, now that that's off my chest, I feel better. Actually, I feel
Soundgardelicious!!! You didn't know that was a word, did you? In regards
to songs I skip, I'd have to say none, except for occasionally I will skip
songs I hear on the radio often, for example- BHS, FOBD, etc. Songs on BMF,
UMOK, LTL, etc. I never skip, b/c I only hear them when I play them myself.

And, here's a most peculiar SG dream for you. I'll try to make it as short
as I can. I am in a local music store, and as usual looking for a SG that I
don't have. I happen to mutter out loud my frustration when the body next to
me comments, recognizing the voice I look over to see Ben!! I course, as
this is a dream, I don't gush and sputter and become tongue tied like I
really would, but strike up an interesting and intriguing conversation on how
far he can spit. He then asks me to join him for lunch at the local
Friendly's so he can have mozzarella sticks. He says he likes to spit the
cheese out at the waitresses. So we go, and the waitress comes over. She
has a goatee! Wait, it's Chris with his hair in a bun, and a pink apron. He
asks to take our order and suggest we have the New England clam chowder, the
red kind. I pass, and Ben whines until Chris writes down mozzarella sticks.
Chris leaves, and I tell Ben I want to put money in the juke box, so I go
and look for it, but I can't find it. When I come back, it's no longer Ben,
but Kim smoking three ciggarettes and has a keg of beer on the table. When I
sit down, he asks me if I like "Prison Sex" (by Tool). I answer, "Of course"
and I ask him if he likes Marilyn Manson. He says he thinks he masturbates
too much. Chris comes over with our food. Both are soup, which Chris says
is the new house specialty, Nazi soup. We get up and leave, and Kim takes me
to his car. His car happened to be one of those big foot truck things. Kim
gets in and starts the car, but I'm still trying to climb up the wheel to get
in. He backs up and I get squashed. He leaves, oblivious to what happened.
The ambulances come, and out comes Matt in full paramedic gear. Except it
was designer paramedic gear: Calvin Klein. But, when he comes over he asks
me to sign his pants. I ask why, and he says so he can remember this moment
forever. So I sign his pants and he starts humming "Hello, Dolly". Then, he
moves to signal to the ambulence to come over and get me, but we don't find
it anymore and he looks at me and keeps humming, as it fades away, or
whatever dreams do. That was one of the silliest dreams I've ever had. I
don't know how my mind ever came up with that anyway.

That's it for now. Smile everyone, it really is possible.

"Remember that I love you, love you"

"Soundgarden is a tear from an eye dreaming"

Subject: Tired, bored, no energy? Try Soundgarden!

Hey...
The other day Rebekah said something about how listening to SG
gave her more energy. The same thing happens to me when I hear
SG, Hole & a few other bands - listening to them gets my adrenaline
going. I think it's a combination of the powerful music and the fact
that I feel a personal connection to their lyrics.
In a way this ties in w/ the "what mood are you in..." thread.
Well, I don't have to be in any particular mood when I listen to SG,
but there are certain songs I'll tend to play over and over again
when I'm in certain moods. It's funny - if I'm really pissed, or I'm
really happy, I'll listen to "Ty Cobb." When I'm feeling particularly
indignant I'll tend towards "Mail Man," TDITTL, "Limo Wreck," or
"Rusty Cage," sometimes "Drawing Flies." If I'm in a more somber,
melancholy mood, it's usually FOBD, "Zero Chance." Sometimes if
I'm angry w/ myself, it's "Outshined," but I also listen to that one
when I'm happy, mainly because of the music.
To me, most SG songs can reflect many different moods, depending
on how you interpret them.
One more thing... about what Deb said the other day - I
completely agree, and couldn't have said it better myself. :)
And BTW... CONGRATS, SETH!!!

You too? I had to put BMF away for awhile, I had listened to it so much
and just got so sick of it. And I love BMF! So I started to listen to
some different bands, to mix things up. As far as songs and moods go, I
sometimes use SG as a mood enhancer, but I find myself using some of the
songs as mood combatters! When I'm down, Like Suicide, Let Me Drown, and
Mind Riot are really good for helping me feel better by letting me wallow
in it for awhile. And when I'm having a good day, almost any of the
songs complement that. 4th of July puts me in a good mood (bizarre, but
it does). I love the Light a Roman Candle part, what a rush.

A couple more things. I haven't read any of the list mail since 1/29... so I
don't know if this has been mentioned... but I was perusing a copy of some
musician/guitar magazine that was listing the top 100 guitarist of all time,
or something like that... and Kim came in DEAD LAST! I couldn't fucking
believe it! Kurt Cobain got put waaaaay in the front, and Kim was last?!?!
WTF?!? Sure, they didn't actually RANK them or anything... but how come Kim
was LAST?!?!?! AAAUUUGGGHHH!!!

Oh, and thanks to Kim, Matt, Ben, Chris, Susan, and Heather Mifflin for
signing the guest book on the SiCA page. ;-) And extra thanks to Kim for
his interpretation of my psyche in correlation to my choice of colors for the
page. I feel so... enlightened now. ;-) And I thought the colors were just
pretty. Who knew? ;-)

Am I the only person who's favorite Soundgarden ( I don't think just

Subject: Damn computers. Damn IBM. Damn me.

Ummm... hi. Remember me? ;-) Yeah, I'm still here... kinda. I was going
to title this post "How to turn an IBM Thinkpad 701C into TOAST," but that
would've been too damn depressing. Anyway... to make a long, sad, and really
inane story short... my computer had smoke coming out of it, IBM is taking
their own sweet time in repairing it... and I've only got limited access to
my father's computer... so I'm screwed until IBM decides that I'm worthy of
getting my notebook back. *sigh* Life is damn harsh sometimes. AND I DON'T
HAVE ACCESS TO MY PICTURES OF CHRIS!!!! AAAUUUGGGHHHHH!!!! Feel my pain,
kiddies...

Anyway, I just wanted to drop y'all a note saying that I haven't disappeared
for good (much to the dismay of a few of you ;-)... I'll be back next week
and making up for alllllll the time I've lost. ;-) Oh, what fun.
 Heheheh...

No, I haven't been able to update the SiCA page. No, I haven't been able to
send out the CC Pic of the Day. And no, I haven't responded to any e-mail.
A million billion trillion apologies to everyone about all this (especially
Margret). =( Umm... and if anyone out there is feeling REALLY sorry for
me... please also feel free to send me naked pictures of Soundgarden. ;-)
That'd make this whole computer fiasco a WHOLE bunch better. =) </me waves
to all at Silver Mgmt> ;-)

One happy note before I say goodbye for another week... I found some really
groovy stuff recently. I got the "Pretty Noose" *huge* poster (40x60) which
looks very lovely hanging from my window... Skin Yard's self titled album
(yes, with Mattster) on *clear* vinyl... a Mother Love Bone 7" single "Hold
Your Head Up" on *blue* vinyl... and the SG Sub Pop Single of the month
"RATYW & HIV Baby" 7" (on black vinyl). =) Very groovy stuff, kiddies. Oh,
and here's a scary story... I got back from my computer-destroying weekend in
San Antonio, opened the door to my room, and almost stepped RIGHT ON TOP of
my "Screaming Life" album on *ORANGE* vinyl. I guess my parents had decided
to put some "more important" stuff in their safety deposit box, so they
pulled out MY precious vinyl, and SLID IT under my door for me.
AAAUUUUGGGHHH!!!! I don't think I need to mention that there were only
*600* copies of "Screaming Life" released on orange vinyl, do I?? Needless
to say, I had a screaming fit when I saw how close I come to destroying it...
and then I crawled onto my bed, cradled it in my hands... and literally CRIED
with relief for awhile. Now wasn't that just a lovely lovely story? Hey,
have I mentioned Chris' sexy body in awhile? Goodness fucking gracious, but
that Chris Cornell is mighty scrumptious looking. Again, if anyone has any
naked pictures they'd like to share... please remember that my e-mail address
is Shroomgrlz@aol.com and I'm always happy to receive nude pictures of Chris
Cornell.
          *hinthinthintbigfuckinghint* =)

"Shroom, since Chris and I feel that your being deprived of internet access
for over a week was just plain WRONG... we want you to have these naked
pictures of Chris. This one of him in liquid latex is a favorite of mine.
Oh, and don't tell him... but right after he left on the last part of their
tour, I happened to find some pictures of him and Matt in some rather...
compromising... and luscious... positions. I guess he thought he could
actually HIDE something like that from me, but don't worry... I made sure
that you got copies of all of them, too." ~ Susan Silver

Photos of Chris given to me by Silver Mgmt:
- - Chris asleep, nude (of course), with his teddy bear "Bobby Brady."
                     (Don't ask.)
- - Chris in the shower, and doing his Madonna impersonation.
- - Chris (wearing sexy women's lingerie) licking a picture of Dave Navarro
(who also happens to be wearing sexy women's lingerie.)
- - Chris, sporting the latest in bondage gear, and doing his Danzig
impersonation. (If you've ever seen the end of the second video for "Mother,"
you'll know what I'm talking about. ;-)
- - Chris in the pink leotard and tutu that was a present from Mattster last
Christmas, and doing his MC Hammer impersonation.
- - Chris eating an ice cream cone. (Hey, the guy doesn't have to be naked for
the picture to have pornographic qualities, right?!?)

Subject: Come Together Over Me....NO THANK YOU!!!

Well, I was sitting here catching up on all the digests that I haven't read
and one that caught my attention was how Toni didn't like Come Together
because of the way the guitar made her skin crawl. Well, personally, I liked
the song before that one awful day......I was coming into the living room the
and I heard the familiar melody of Come Together and I was Like, "Hey, I know
that song." Well, when I got in front of the TV, it turned out that none
other than Mr. No-Nose,Can't-Pick-Which-Color-My-Skin-Should-Be,
Hope-My-Hair-Doesn't-Catch-Fire-Again Jackson singing it. AAAAGGGGHHHH!!!!!!
Now, if you think it is annoying when Soundgarden sings/plays it, you should
hear MJ croak that song out. I didn't stick on that channel for very long
because it may have drove me to suicide!!! Consider yourself lucky Toni that
you never had to experience this because now everytime I hear that song,
whether it be Soundgarden's cover or the Beatles, I have this really yucky
image in my head of MJ doing his little dance step, you know the one: turn
and kick and walk 2-3-4 and grab my crotch :(~ Well, I'll stop now because
I'm making myself sick to my tummy!!! Just thought I would throw my two
cents worth in. Take care and be sweet!!!

Stay Cool,
Kelly :)

Haha! Soundgarden, the band for every mood! I listen to Soundgarden lots,
and I get in all different moods all the time, and the songs always seem to
'work' on me. There's some bands that I just have to be in exactly the
right mood to listen to : ie. Primus, Paradise Lost. However with
Soundgarden I can just chuck in any album and it makes me feel....well good
I suppose, it does to me what I expect from music. I think that Chris said
something along the lines that Down On The Upside has almost every emotion
in there (or something). I couldn't agree more! What other band could follow
'Zero Chance' up with 'Dusty'!? Definitely no concept albums for the
Soundgarden boys!
