speaking of Pigeonhed again, for those magazine-deprived sommsters, there
was a pretty good article on Pigeonhed in a recent edition of the Rocket.
It's mainly Steven Fisk describing the new record and there's also a bit on
the history of the band. The beginning of the article is also quite amusing :)
I've already typed it up for someone, so if any sommsters would like to read
it, just let me know, and I'd be glad to send it to you.

Subject: stuff, wit and Sg

This is long but please read and consider and yes, I do pose a Sg question
at the end!

I agree, enough of the newbie stuff. They ought to be as welcome as any of
us and frankly, I agree w/ the posts some of the newbies have been making
lately. It's not up to any one of us to judge who's a better/more dedicated
Sg fan simply b/c of how long someone has been on the list. I've been on 1
1/2 years, what's that make me? I don't know the older stuff, I'm in my own
category, we all are. Some newbies have not been treated very nicely--would
any of you want to be treated the way a few of them have been?? Think about
it! I think--tell me if I'm wrong--that I try to act like a peace-maker or
at least a voice of reason, even if it does go unnoticed. We're all
entitled to our 2 cents right? So here's mine.

Seems things get to a certain point on this list and then we find ourselves
in a time warp of repeating claims, same subjects, etc.--I'm better than you
b/c sort of crap. Certain people lash out when they reach their limit of
tolerance and they cop a 'tude. We're like a big family, falks! We're like
a bunch of siblings! Just think about it--we're like the Cornell family! I
could care less about who does what for the list and that sort of thing.
We're not here to impress the world w/ what great fans we are! The amusing
thing is, the person who copped that just yesterday told me I'm the type of
fan who drove her out of the music biz. I'm quite complacent compared to
some of my fellow listers--I don't drive vast distances or go into debt to
see Sg, etc.

Now just let me say this so you can see what I mean about how the "I'm
better than you" stuff --AND PLEASE NOTE--THIS IS SAID AS AN EXAMPLE OF HOW
FAR WE _COULD_ TAKE THINGS! I keep this stuff to myself, only a few people
know it. I can tear apart a computer and put it back together and it
works, plus I can upgrade my own equipment at work, and I'm a network admin,
and Karen Cornell is a personal friend of mine, plus I know her kids pretty
well too, so I'm a better fan than any of you. What a bunch of crapola!
I'm not a better fan than anyone based on who I know or what I can do w/
computers. I don't care a whit about guitar tabs like some of you, I don't
know the old stuff--does that make me a lesser fan?

My point, and yes, I'm repeating things I've said in the past if youcheck
the digest--this list is for Sg fans to talk about the band, to meet other
Sg fans, to exchange info and experiences. It shouldn't matter if you've
been on the list from day one or just found it b/c you just got a
computer--I do all my stuff from work!--the MAIN THING should be that you
are a Sg fan!!! Period.

****OK, let's now try for some new strings! Do you need to be in just the
right sort of mood to listen to Sg and if so, what sort of mood is it? What
makes you think "I gotta listen to Sg today?"

For me, it's sort of a mood-related thing, like I somehow feel either
defiant or just plain ready to conquer the world. I'll put aside my Sg
tapes for a while and then all of a sudden, one day before I leave for work
I pause and grab bmf or su b/c I just need to have that fix!

*****another string--are there any Sg songs that put you in a really good
frame of mind, which ones and why?

My 2 cents for the day!

later.....ciao.....deb

ps--I'm so happy!!! My friend Lin and I have been signed up to go to
Germany and Austria in June and last night at a trip meeting, she won an
over-night stay in a medeival castle on the first night there! We're
staying in a castle, we're staying in a castle! Just had to share that b/c
I'm so jazzed about it!!!

No not really!! I think SG helps create my mood more than me being in a
mood and needing to hear certain songs. Like our favorite driving song
"Rusty Cage". When I'm in the Jeep and "Rusty Cage" is coming at me - my
mood is free, open to the four winds, ready to tear up the road, and laugh
in the face of the law. Now of course if the law would stop me I would
more than likely be in a "I fought the Law but the Law won" mood..

But if FOBD is playing my mood will switch to sadness and put on BUTOW and
I'm a crazed and happy fool dancing my heart out on stage with the band.
Maybe that is why I like SG so much they have a song to fit all the moods
my strange (but wonderful) emotions go through.

>*****another string--are there any Sg songs that put you in a really good

Again "Rusty Cage"!! I guess this song is just one of my all time picks.
It just makes me feel so damn good about everything.

Being that i'm from a town named Holstein i felt obligated to comment
on the mooooooooooods thread. I personaly will pick a song or a cd that may
enhance the mood i'm alredy in. Like if i'm feeling recluse or dark i may put
in Stolen Prayers or UMOK, but if i feel like a million BMF or Fopp will do
nicely.
Songs are the same way, good mood = SWMGEC or BiMH. While if i feel
like releaseing some energy, Ty Cobb or BtW or TDITtL. The coolest thing is
that i can always fing a song to match my mood. I might even sit there and
switch between cds for an hour just to listen to the sad songs or the loud
ones.

Hiya, Just doing the same chores I did last week on my day off(what is
with these people in my house I just washed the dishes last week and I have
to do it AGAIN!!! :)) I have my housecleaning music on. Just a couple of
things came to me as I was stripping the beds while the Moby BUTOW remix
played. I had a vision of Sommsvention in Los Vegas. A bad meeting room in
a Vegas hotel crammed full of sommsters. Huge Video screen with a slide show
going on (Courtesy of UKDeb) of Chris pictures and all the hootchies up
doing a cootchie cootchie dance(to this remix) in front of the screen in
ecstasy. Or doing Ecstasy....whatever!!  Don't be afraid to come to Vegas;
Matt, Ben, Kim and Chris....we are harmless...well maybe not to each other
but to you we'll be nice!!
Also I listened to Come Together again since it was a fave of both Seth
and j. And guess what??..... I still don't like it! I'm funny that way the
guitar sound just grates on my ears and nerves. I can't listen to a Melvins
CD for the same reason it just makes my skin crawl on hearing. Even the
little snippetof them in Hype had me spuirming in my seat. I don't dislike
Come Together because I like the Beatles version better and yes, j I am old
enough to remember it first. I love the Rolling Stones and I really like
Soundgarden's version of Stray Cat Blues!! Especially Chris singing "I bet
your Mama don't know you can stratch like that!" meow! Gonna be sweet from

Someone recently asked what Ferriverous means. Ferriverous is a
word Kim made up, and it means metal eating. Just a little bit of info
for anyone that did not know.

What are these bad thoughts directed toward Kickstand. After the
slow grinding songs on most of SU it is refreshing. Makes you want to
get up and throw something. Very Punkish. Face Polution, Ty Cobb and
Kickstand are kind of fast get up and do something energetic type of
songs. Atleast to me. Great to listen to after a drilling day at school.
Especialy Ty Cobb. You can close your eyes and pretend your telling all
your teachers Fuck You All! Totally relaxing. A release of fustrations.

Is the Birth Ritual original demo version that is found on some
singles any good? Or is it pretty much the same thing? I have the one
from the Singles soundtrack and it is one of my favorite songs.

Sure you can! And here it is!
It's from an italian magazine called "Il mucchio selvaggio"(the wild heap[of
people])
May 1996 n.220, a really trustworthy source..

QUESTION: "When you have an idea for a catchy song, you try to change it in
order to
avoid commercial success?"[they have talked for a whole page about commercial
success of
other Seattle bands like Pearl Jam...]
CHRIS: "Sometimes (laughs). I think that doing so i destroyed a song on the new
album.
This is the reason why it's not on it. It had a very catchy melody, it was
nearly a pop song,
but we played it with a fuzzy, punk rock approach, and at the end it didn't
work.It came out
less interesting than if we had a different approach."
QUESTION: "It's too late now?"
CHRIS: "To re-do that song? Not really.I guess i've been hypercritical. My idea
of how the
song should have been was different from the way I approached it during the
recording
phase.I showed the band an aggressive guitar, because unconsciously i had
realized it was
merely a power-pop song.At the end, it was me being unsatisfied, even if it was
all my
fault. Now it's only a sort of scratchy fast punk rock song i don't like really
much."
So the song was not actually dropped from SU but from DOTU(as i wrote in my
message...)

The interview is huge...49(!) questions, to most of which Chris answers
extensively.
So Chris doesn't name the song...i just can't remember clear, but i think that
somwhere i read
it could be called Cristi(i got nearly 40 magazines with more than one hundred
pages of
interviews...am i allowed not to remember everything?). I beg you to forgive me
if that's not
exact.
Anyway, this is an extract from another italian magazine, oh ,sorry, European
(Metal
Hammer) October 1996.I think this is the only interview in which the questions
are longer
than the answers...the band should have been really upset for something!
QUESTION: "On the album(!?!)there's a song called "Castle All Write" which is
far from
your usual way of composing songs. Why?"
CHRIS . "You gotta ask Matt, it's him who wrote it.Hey Matt..." "Eh, Uh, oh
yeah"
(a grown dull Matt Cameron(?!?) enters for a short time the discussion)
MATT: "Experience, solid dynamics,syntony...it's from these that we tried to
bring more
musicality in the album. The other guys liked it, and chris put great lyrics in
it...[hey, it looks
like he's reading from a small note as in school!!!]
CC:"It was a so funny song that when our next record will be out everybody's
gonna like it."

So, what's this "Castle all write"?Does anybody have a clue? Let us know!!!

Valerio "the italian guy"

hey,was it a good translation?I could send to Seth MANY new interviews of good
italian
magazines.Anyway, let me know!

Exactly... I usually use SG to enhance the mood I'm in rather than to

4) Under the influence = Mind Riot, Nothing To Say, Boot Camp,
Overfloater, Hand of God (why is this list longer?)
5) Happy = Power Trip
...OK, I'm losing interest...

Whatever... All of this ass kissing and 'beware of Seth' stuff is
rediculous. This has nothing to do with Seth, but I don't know where
people keep coming up with the idea that we are all automatically
followers of the list admin. Being SG admirers, I'd hope that there are
more individuals and leaders on this list than a bunch of little troops
marching to the horn of the list admin... but who knows... follow if you
will, little sheep...
OK... that's my little bit on individuality...

Yes, I'm a digest subscriber. Yes, I got a message posted to the digest.
Do I care? Naw, it don't bother me. But I was expecting this from Seth,
so I beat him to the punch he he he :>

Soundgarden Content:

Anyone ever see The Real World III on MTV? The ones with Puck? It amazed
me, all the Soundgarden references he made. He mentioned Pedro and his
lover and said something about them having "loud love"; and he mentioned
Chris Cornell a couple times as well..something about Pedro and Chris
Cornell that if Chris was an asshole then Puck was gonna treat him like
one. Or something..I don't know. It was interesting, though. :>

Well, have a good night, and to all those people I was copying bootlegs,
etc. for: Don't worry, I haven't forgotten. I'm simply having one stereo
problem after another. :( Sorry about the delay.

Seth-hmmm...I think songs must have feelings, and you know, I think BHS
is probably the most depressed song in the history of rock. What other
song has to withstand such constant bickering about "overplaying"? Poor
BHS. I think we should all apologize to it. After all, it wasn't the
song's fault. It was those damn radio stations. In Kickstand's case, I
totally agree with you, except that I often like to try to figure out
exactly what he's talking about. I mean, Shroom and I have had our fun
with it if you know what I mean. :) ("Come stand me up" and "I got a
saddle made of leather"....let your little imagination run wild with
that one. Mine does. :P)
Shroomus-WHERE ARE YOU? Fix that damn computer so you can refresh me
about when you're coming to town to see me. (for the 3rd fucking time)
Oh-listen to this, Sommsters! I was listening to the radio (yes, I
sometimes give Lance's tapes a rest when I'm in the car) and BUTOW came
on. Well, after the song, the dj said some nonsense about Chris Cornell
writing that song because "he found out his sweetheart didn't really
like him". ACK! Some shit like that. Then he had the nerve to go on
about it for the next minute or so. Ugh. I wanted to call in and flame
the guy, but I decided I better not pull over. UGH. It makes me mad just
thinking about how dumb people are. While I'm on the subject, I was
sitting in the library with some friends today, and of course, the name
Chris Cornell comes up and everyone looks at me. I talked about him a
bit and announced that I can't WAIT to see them again live on the
**crossing fingers** summer tour. Then this guy looks at me and
says,"You like Chris Cornell? Ugh, he's so ugly." REALLY. Someone said
this. I was like, "WHERE is he ugly, moron?" I wasn't nice after that.
Geez...some people.
I think that's all for today, boys and girls.
Luv Margret (deemed Most Likely to Marry a Rock Star by her

I am a new member of the fan club. I live in Seattle. I've read through
alot of the new email and a few of you are rude, but that's OK. I am a fan
of Soundgarden, hell isn't that why we're all here.
If you want to talk email me!
