(Attn: Sorry I got carried away, this is a long post!)

Well my vote for silliest/funniest song would have to go to Circle of
Power. It makes me laugh everytime I hear it. I don't know but to me
Hiro sounds like a big ol' yodeling redneck. Go ahead and flame me
but hey, that's just my opinion. Exit Stonehenge and One Min. of
Silence are other votes.

And what song got me to realize that sg was more than just any
band...i guess Outshined drew me in. Actually it was more the video.
<long story>
I guess I was about 13, sittin in my room doing my homework. Had the
tv turned to MTV, wasn't really watching it, just listening to it and
Outshined comes on. I heard *that* voice...deep and pretty damn
erotic if i do say so myself. Then I heard the guitar...heavy and
brooding. I wasn't really into that kind of music then but I for some
reason I started paying attention then. And then I looked up to pay
some attention to the song and oh my god that face, that
body...yowsa. (oh come on like you didn't notice the first time you
saw that video besides it really was the music that caught my
attention first) And then a couple days later i saw them being
interviewed on Headbangers Ball. I caught the name of their album and
went out and bought it the next week. I guess I've been addicted ever
since.
</story>

To answer other threads...
Scariest song: Half usually does the trick for me. Bens vocals are
way too high and give me chills every
listen. Weird huh? Applebite is tingling too.
Happiest song: I'd have to agree with the majority and say Dusty.
Especially live when they have the little
video playing behind them. To be cliche it gives me a
"warm feeling in my heart". Does anyone else think
this song kinda sounds like Free by Phish?
Also Fresh Tendrils for some reason makes
                          me a happy camper.
Sexiest song: Mailman, no doubt. For the same reason that Shroom
pointed out, angry love is somewhat erotic
                         and sexy.
Songs I skip: Practically none but I don't really like listening
to the short instrumental b-sides. I just like
                        Motorcycle Loop.

Wow this is the longest post I've ever written. Gheeze if you've read
all of my ramblings and you're not pissed off yet...will you marry
me? :-)

PS - I'm dying to hear Moby's remix of Dusty. Can anyone sample it
and make it into a .wav file? (Real Audio SUCKS! I can't stand to deal
with it anymore.) Now not the whole song dearhearts, my
computer could never handle it. Just a little sample so I can get the
feel of the song.

> >forward over when listening to an album?

As a general rule, I skip over Soundgarden's "fast" songs -- not so
much because I'm sick of them, but because I prefer the huge, slow
tracks. Let Me Drown, Kickstand and Spoonman are out (though Spoonman,
of course, *rocks* live). Most of DOTU is out, though my dislike of
that whole album is an entirely separate post, which can be found
somewhere in the archives. I'll fast-forward through Get On The Snake
and Full On Kevin's Mom to get to Loud Love any day.

The two albums that have no skippers are Ultramega OK and
Badmotorfinger. It just seems like it would be a sacrilege to leave
out any tracks.

And then there are the b-sides, which often are skippable/laughable --
I mean, Shroom will disagree with me here, but Exit Stonehenge is a
skipper, and both Jerry Garcia's Finger and A Splice Of Space Jam are
wholly unnecessary. Karaoke, while very slightly better than the vast
majority of DOTU, is still a skipper, as is Bleed Together (in fact,
the only new b-side that's worth much is the Moby Mix of Dusty, which
is far better than the original). Other remixes, like the alternate
versions of Big Dumb Sex and Spoonman, are entertaining, but I'd be
lying if I said I ever took out the CDs to listen to those particular
tracks.

B-sides that are definitely NOT skippers (and fit rather neatly into
the "fast song" rule) are Toy Box, Cold Bitch, Heretic, Fresh Deadly
Roses, and Come Together.

I guess I could go on and on, but I won't. :)

Hoping Nothing To Say is the next "live" b-side,

Well, sommsters, it's time for another round of my questions, and answers.

Well, first of all, i was listening to Switch Opens at a massive volume the
other day, and I knew that Chris and the guys said that they recorded the
song "live" so it didn't seem so weird. does anyone else hear the chatting
going on at the intro? It's just some background stuff going on in the back.
I hear Matt loud and clear. I suggest listening for it the next time you
hear the song.

next, i would make a shirt for blow up the outside world. A picture of the
world with a big mushroom cloud over it, and the guy's mugs inside the cloud.
Can't you just picture it now? I have a whole lot more ideas, but I don't
want to bore you all with them.

As for the thread with my Magic soundgarden song. Believe it or not, I was a
fool. I actually connected with Black Hole sun. It had it's good points,
'cuase hey, I wouldn't be here if it weren't for that song, I might still be
listening to Boys 2 Men(shivers rolldown my spine)

I think your right Blind Dog. They don't seem to be declining at all, fresh
from DOTU (which despite a bit of bad press on this list I think it rocks)
and seeing them live, where they were totally awesome - I think theres a lot
of life left in the Sg camp.

>> and..what do u guys think about the next SG album?do u guys think they
>> should pursue a diiferent direction...or just go back to the days of
>> UMOK..u know..that raw dirty sound....

I think that those days are long gone (to draw upon Mad Season's "Long Gone
Day"). I personally wouldn't like it if Soundgarden went back to what they
were when they were starting out because they've progressed so much since
those days. Matt didn't write as much back then, Ben wasn't in the band at
that time - and they have input so many fresh sounds and ideas into the band
(Drawing Flies & Half for example). I think that the next album, although
this is pure speculation, may have a heavier feel to it in parts. Kim seemed
a bit annoyed that he only wrote one song on DOTU, which was a huge change
from the Screaming Life/Ultramega days where he and Hiro seemed to write
most stuff (am I right there), and Kim's songs seem to be heavy and
aggressive (Never The Machine Forever, Kickstand). But yeah, I guess I'm
totally happy with how they're travelling at the moment, and I don't doubt
that whatever they do in the future will be true to themselves and their
beliefs/conceptions.

Sorry if I've totally rambled on like an idiot ;)

I find it hard to comprehend that you feel that way! (well thinking about it
maybe not.....man I'm sick of Enter Sandman by you-know-who) I guess I
didn't listen to the radio enough when it was released...when I 1st got into
Soundgarden it was about 6 months after Superunknown was released and I'd
never heard Black Hole Sun until I listened to the whole album - My Wave was
the only Soundgarden song I'd EVER previously heard (must have been naive or
ignorant at the time!!). But anyway, I'm glad I didn't then cause I really
like the song, Chris' solo version is superb, it should be released as a
B-Side one day.

Does anyone else really like the video version? After hearing FOBD a fair
bit as I really like it, I thought that the video version was a real change
to the actual version, (which I only just got a few weeks back on the Tour
Edition of DOTU) and I think it sounds 'sadder' if that's the word. His
lyrics sound more heartfelt and emotional than on SU I think. Anyone else
feel the same?

Ok, i read somewhere (golly, i wonder where i could have gotten sg
info?) that they tried to use that name on a couple other songs before the
version found on SU. I think Chris said it was a cool name and he had tried to
apply it to some other songs before that but they haden't ever been very good.
My guess would be that this is one of the other songs. Please correct me if
i'm wrong, or someone please confirm this info.

Subject: 665/667 forward/reverse

        Good Morning Somms!

After a night of battling insomnia by reading back issues of computer mags
(if that won't help you sleep, what will?), I fell upon a wonderfully easy
way to listen to music backwards using your very own home computer. I tried
it with (of course) 665 and 667 and IT RULES!! If you have a CD-ROM drive,
QT MoviePlayer 2.5, and some extra drive space, then you too can have the
pleasure of interpreting your favorite "satanic messages" right in the
comfort of your own home. (WARNING: The way I am describing this is the
method I used for Macintosh, and I honestly don't know if it will be
different for Windows or any other OS, although I believe all QT stuff
originates from Apple in the 1st place, so good luck!)

1) First start MoviePlayer with Ultramega OK in your CD drive. Choose Open
or do a Cmnd-O, whichever is your preference. When the window opens asking
you to choose what you want open, double-click on Audio CD 1.

2) Select Track 4 by clicking once. Name your song in the appropriate box.
There is an options button bar that lets you decide things like 8 or 16 bit
recording, and mono or stereo, etc. I recommend beefing everything up as
good as you can, but all of this takes up more and more space. (Both tracks,
recorded in the highest possible quality used approx. 27.1 MB of space,
totally.)

3) Once you have decided all this and have clicked OK in the Options window,
click the button bar that says Convert, and the song is on its merry way to
becoming a Quick Time Movie. It takes a minute or two, so just hang on.

4) When the computer is done converting the format, open up the song/movie
track/whatever and give it a test run to make sure everything came out cool.
Then, using the mouse, drag the counter bar thingy (not the tech. term, but
you know...) to the very end of the song.

5) HERE IS THE TRICK If you hold down the CONTROL button and click and
hold on the REW/FF buttons, they become a slider knob with which you can
play the song (or any QT Movie, I guess) at variable speeds Forward AND
Backward!!!

6) It will take 2 or 3 tries to get the speed right, but once you do, you
can hear Chris's *secret messages* as clear as if he were right there with
you. Well not that good, but it works. Try it on SG or the Beatles or Hotel
California, or any Death Metal you might have about that is rumored to have
special hidden or reverse lyrics.

I hope this works for everybody. I'm sure there are better ways to do this,
but I was pretty proud of myself for my deductive reasoning, and it is
something accesible to most of us for free, so I thought I would share with
the group like a good kiddie. Don't say I never did anything for you! :)

Have fun, and don't be corrupted by the messages
        A Different Seth

BTW: If anyone caught Loveline on Friday (the inferior TV version) you may
have noticed once when they cut to a commercial, the background tune was
Hands All Over. Cool Shit, now if they would just play the old videos!

From: Georgia Kennedy <georgia@q-net.net.au>
Subject: Last Aust date....

I've just returned from the most incredible concert I've ever been to.
There were so many things that happened tonight that could've soured the
experience, but NOTHING could taint what I just saw.

SG just finished their last Australian show one hour ago now, and was it
good!! Every song they played tonight just went off, and it really seemed
like the guys were relishing playing their last date in this country.
Unfortunately, I forgot my pen tonight. I had high hopes of being squashed
in the crowd at the front of the stage, and thought I was assured of that by
the "General Admission" written on my ticket - but no! this only meant that
I had to stay in the seated area, but in any available seat of my choice.
So I settled for front row right in front, a fair way back from the stage
(50 metres or so), but still close enought to see Chris's right Pec jumping
up and down while he was playing (settle down, girls!). There was a really
young crowd there, all trying to jump the low fences into the open standing
area (where I wanted to be!!), but the security was pretty tight, and apart
from a couple of rushes at the fences, when maybe 100 or so kids bolted for
the pit, we were all stuck there. So I made sure I made the most of it!

Songs they played that I can remember, in no particular order: Spoonman
(opener), My Wave, Let Me Drown, SWMGEC, Rusty Cage, Outshined, Waiting for
the Sun, Helter Skelter fading into Boot Camp, Ty Cobb, BUTOW, Pretty Noose,
No Attention, Burden in my Hand, BHS (to vigorous groanings of pleasure from
me & my two friends - that voice!!!!), Search and Destroy sung by Tim Rogers
from You Am I, and Jesus Christ Pose to finish. Ben and Kim seemed to be
enjoying themselves for the best part of the night, and even messed around a
little bit between themselves. I saw a couple of huge spitballs fly as
well. Someone threw a shoe on the stage, Chris told everyone he didn't need
someone elses old shit, thanks, and threw it back into the crowd. The show
ended in a massive feedback session, with Chris just screaming into the mic
for what seemed like ages, Ben threw his bass a couple of feet, reeled
around, and stalked off the stage, and Kim had what looked like an
incredible passionate encounter with his amp for at least five minutes. He
then left his guitar sitting on top, lit a smoke & had a few puffs, and
scraped the strings now and then with his beer bottle (I think it was beer,
ok, I presume it was beer). The only song where Chris's voice faltered was
during Pretty Noose, but this seems a common occasion with this song in
particular, it was still really good though.

Highlights? Outshined and Rusty Cage, they're two of my favourite songs
anyway, but they really ripped them out, the sound was intense, and Chris
was just on fire. Yes, the shirt came off, I guess it took about 3 songs,
so all us girls were happy. Slaves and Bulldozers was just amazing, the
broodiness and intensity of the trak was all there, but I suppose with even
more fire than usual. I saw SG last time they were in Aust, both at the BDO
and their club gig, and the club gig then was fantastic, but this was just
simply incredible. The lights were simple but effective, the sound was
really good and the acoustics of the superdome were greatly improved since I
last saw a band there, which was in fact Iggy Pop in 1988.

So now it's 12.30 am, I have a 6.00 wake up call tomorrow for work, my ears
are ringing (it was really loud!), and I can hardly talk from screaming and
singing. God life is good.

I read the MSN Soundgarden interview yesterday and some things struck me
as being odd. First off, they were saying that DOTU has barely sold over
1 million records. I was under the impression that it had sold something
like 2 million and was one of the highest sellers of the year. Can anyone
clarify this? Also, they were talking about how A&M has apparently given
up on DOTU. Did any of you get this feeling? I never did. Also, they were
talking about the "uphill battle" SG has fought with DOTU regarding
radio and tv. All I know is that SG is one of the most played bands here
in Dallas. Some people think that SG are arguably getting *too* much radio and
video exposure. The facts presented in the article just felt "off" to me.

What do you all think?

(I know everyone is probley tired of me constantly posting about Loudest

Well, if i had any choice in the matter, SG would make albums until they
all die at an extremely old age of natural causes. 10 albums sounds good,
hell i don't even have kids yet, but i can see my kids growing up with sg
the same way artists who are popular now grew up with the beatles...

And the Italian guy had a good point about BHS, but i would like to see
the translation of that interview, as well as know what song was dropped
from SU. Btw, italian guy, can i quote you on "Excuse me for being too
long"?

And Toni, you don't like Come Together? wow, that is such an unload
song...i love every part of it. Of course, i heard SG's version before
the original and i'm sure you heard them the other way around...old well.

The strangest thing happened yesterday.. My local radio station started
playing the Moby remix of Dusty! Being htat Im not a person who has the

thing was they debued it at 7:30, and by 10 it had made #10 on our

this?

Next question. I heard from my friend who say on emptyvee news that they
were GOING to release another vidoe, and she THOUGHT it was rhinosaur...
but she COULD be wrong.. Anyway, she said it got banned befor it aired,

Subject: songs that hooked me, etc...

My love of Soundgarden has kind of been built up over time. The
first thing that really hooked me was the ENTIRE Batmotorfinger
album. I was especially taken by Slaves & Bulldozers and Face
Pollution, but the whole album grabbed me like nothing before. I was
into a lot of stuff like R.E.M. and the Beatles (still am) and also a
lot of heavier stuff like Metallica and a lot of punk stuff like the
Dead Kennedys and the Misfits. Soundgarden was the first band that
did a good job of making the heavier stuff smarter and more melodic.

...Then came Superunknown, with even more of that Beatles feel, and
weirder guitar sounds, and other stuff. And at first, BHS was really
moving to me. It did lose something with its heavy MTV rotation, but
the album was and is great and it made me change from a SG fan to SG
being one of my top five bands.

...Then came DOTU, which is full of fantastic songwriting and sounds
like I think an album should sound. Everything, from the drums to
the bass to the Rhodes in Overfloater, sounds like it should. By
this point, I had found this list and Seth's page, and SG had become
my favorite band that is around today. It wasn't really one thing
that did it, but rather an evolution of sorts. And everyone on this
list is part of that.

Caroline and Justin, sensational reviews, these put my paltry effort to

wanted shitty sound that was where you would have gotten it. Where I was in
the Hordern the sound was pretty good. Mind you none of the gigs were
truely loud enough for my liking. After reading my backlog I now know that
the cover SG did at the Hordern was The Doors, now that I come to think of
it Im pretty sure they did a Doors song three years ago at the BDO. Anyway
thats enough of that. Thanks for the in depth reviews guys, Justin your

yes, it is. we WERE patient. if we weren't patient we'd have flamed him
the first time he posted -- instead we tried to make a joke out of it,
hoping that he would gently get our point. he didn't.

as seth has often said, it's good advice for any mailing list you join, go
check out the archives before posting, and wait a week or so to get a feel
for the list. i've been on the neil young list for over two years and
only felt comfortable to post *now*, for example. it's a tightly-knit
community full of people who will know more about neil young than i could
ever imagine. i respected that by hanging back until i felt i really had
something to contribute. it's just responsible mailing list behavior that
we're trying to foster here...

is that too much to ask? if so, let me know.

Slave4cc is drifting in and out of reality....Fantasy #2 (sorry. dont mind
me..)

Its in a time far away. After walking west for several days, I finally
arrive at a beautiful castle by the warm western sea. My feet are
bleeding..my clothes are rags. I am almost dead from starvation.

It is known that 4 wise, magical, kings live in this castle, and just the
touch of their hand, or an uttered word from their mouth, could give a person
eternal bliss.

I look up at the enormous castle, with its large wooden gates. The gates
are protected by a keeper. The keeper is a hideous monster, so powerful, so
evil no one can ever get though. His name is.....FAME!

I wonder how I am going to get past this Fame monster to meet the beloved
kings? So, I start throwing rocks and sticks high up over the walls, hoping
that one of the kings will take notice and let me in!! But they dont ever
see the rocks or sticks....they never even knew I was there at all. I lean
againt the gate and cry. *sigh* Then I stagger into town and find a pub and
drown my sorrows in a flask of ale.
The end.=)

What I fast forward through: Never Named, Kickstand, and Half. I think
Kickstand is Soundgarden making fun of Aerosmith. I enjoy b sides and the
"rest" of the album more than the "hit" songs, so BHS or Burden cannot be my
favorites.

Favorites: Hands all Over, Limo Wreck, 4th of July, Like Suicide, Mind Riot,
Searching wmgec, JCP, of course Slaves & Bulldozers, She Likes Suprises, lots
more.

Never heard: Flutter girl, Helter Skelter, but really want to.

Im searching for: colored vinyl. I know your all sick of hearing it so maybe
one of you will take pity and sell me one so I will shut up.

No staring at the clouds, I must stay on the ground.

First Soundgarden moment:

I remember it very clearly, but i don't remember when it was. 1991 or
1992 maybe?? For some strange reason, MTV was airing some Guns n Roses
concert in France. There seemed to be millions of fans in the crowd. MTV
was showing the opening act of the show, who happened to be (the basically
unknown) Soundgarden. I only caught their last song, but was totally
blown away. They ended that show with "Jesus Christ Pose". I was amazed
by the power of the singer and how much energy he put into singing that
song. The song just ripped, i could't beleive it! At the end, Chris
Cornell grabs the mic stand and places it under his arms and stands in his
"Jesus Christ Pose", and with his long hair, it really looked like Jesus.
I was just standing there in shocked at how powerfull that song was and i
have been a fan ever since. Looking back, that was probably the last time
MTV played anything worth watching.

this list is not unkind to newbies. this list is very welcoming to
newbies who show some semblance of wanting to be part of the list.
newbie does not automatically equal stupid. this list loves new people
who have something to contribute and we've had lots of new listers who
have contributed a whole hell of a lot lately.

i didn't flame the person who asked if sg had any other albums besides
'superunknown' -- i wrote back and told them yes, they did, and gave them
the url of seth's page to go get more info and that if they didn't have
web access i would send them more info. someone else, however, DID flame
them. whatever.

if you want to see hunddreds of posts about bush and silverchair and
nirvana on this list, then fine, don't say anything to anyone ever, and
THEN this list will die. if this list dies it's because too many people
unsub because of stupid mail or ten zillion unsub requests or flame wars
over nirvana -- NOT because we flamed someone who got more than a fighting
chance to not look stupid...

Here, here Seth!

In one of the first Soundgarden interviews I ever read , Chris was asked if
he thought Soundgarden fans were ready for a song like 'Half'.

His answer was something along the lines of (forgive me, b/c the interview
was in French!)...

The fan who buys all our albums doesn't want buy five albums all the same.
He (!!!) wants something new, and rightly so. If some of them loved
Badmotorfinger and they hate Superunknown, they can just go back to
listening to Badmotorfinger! Because as long as they want to do that, it's
always there - it's not going to disappear into thin air!

Sounds pretty sensible advice to me :-)

This is from the Request 94 interview. Thought it kind of pertained
to the question:

A lot of those bands from the '70s still walk the earth. Is that a
good thing for music?

It can be. It's inspiring to me to see somebody like Neil Young or
Johnny Cash doing what they're doing right now. They're of two
different generations, but there are stages to their careers and
they've both persevered in a way that is totally valid and inspired.
Being a musician, it gives me the feeling that, you know, I don't have
to be David Lee Roth. I can be somebody who makes music that is real
for as long as I can breathe.

From: Taylor Holmes <holmest@netdepot.com>
Subject: Next album... SG's future

I don't know about you folks, but I kind of ready for a new SG album...
As of late, I've kind of gotten out of the SG groove and have been
searching for new music to satisfy my need for progressive music. Sadly
enough, I've noticed that there is not much on the horizon of Rock music
that really strikes me as special (with the exception of Aenima). DOTU
satisfied my need for only a short time and seemed to lack that 'edge'
that keeps me interested... so I've been really listening to a lot of
UMOK and LTL lately. I'm not much into this hip hop/techno meets rock
fusion trend and I'm not really into the industrial NIN clones. I want
something new that will strike me how Badmotorfinger or SU did when I
first heard them. I was pleased with DOTU, but there's something
different in DOTU that has not kept my interest like the other albums.
I really hope SG put together a new album that really is experimental
and progressive. I think that SG has opened up a whole new realm to
their music through self production. I'd really like to see SG take
advantage of both their musical talents *and* their production talents
to travel down new avenues on their next album. Personally, I'd like to
see SG really move more into the pshychadelic/gothic realm a la Blind
Dogs, Boot Camp, Nowhere But You. I can see them pursuing this avenue
more than reverting back to the UMOK sound... I think it's time to scrap
the 'raw' sound and begin to maximize the use of production
technology...

absolutely. i even talked about this about a week ago. I think they gave
up after "Pretty Noose", even though BiMH was way successful -- they might
have stopped snoozing for a bit when they gained some momentum, but it was
really clear to me that they had given up.

some regional markets will play a lot of a certain band for whatever
reason. All I know is that I hear a lot of other bands much more than I
hear Soundgarden -- they are too light for most hard rock formats (i know,
hard to imagine, isn't it) and too heavy for most alternative or AAA
formats. you can't just throw in JCP after, say, a wheezer song. (okay,
you COULD, but not in the radio programming of the 1990's).

some bands are just radio-friendly. some records are just radio-friendly.
DoTU is not radio-friendly, soundgarden is not overall radio-friendly
(with the exception of BHS and to a lesser extent FoBD). I'm talking
about songs that fit easily to a rigorously determined radio format,
nothing to do with taste or affection or anything else.

i thought it was one of the best articles/interviews i have read this
year. the questions were thought-provoking, the answers were also
thoughtful, and to hear some of kim's improvs was just dynamite to me!

just my opinion...

there are lots of technically capable folks on the list (read: geeks) who
certainly could run a mailing list. i'm hardly the only one, but on the
other hand, i was the one who tried to raise enough $$ to buy seth a copy
of listserv for his birthday last year (didn't see anyone else doing that)

Subject: That Special SG Song (cont'd)

Wow... so many great threads.
Well, last time I posted, it was about how BHS was *the* song for
me. I want to elaborate. BHS became one of my favorite songs
before I even owned a SG album. I'd only heard it a few times,
and hadn't had a chance to think about the meaning of the lyrics
yet, though they had begun to intrigue me. It was the music, the
way CC sings, that made me love it. But then after I bought
Superunknown I really began to analyze the meaning of the words.
I guess this sorta ties in to the "most powerful lyrics" thread. I
know that CC has often said that BHS has no meaning, and maybe
it doesn't - to him. I have no way of knowing. But to me they do
make sense, and they're very personal.
I have a lot of different interpretations of what it's actually about,
or not about - it could just be many different feelings strung together.
That was what I first thought, because usually when I first hear a
song I like I think about how it relates to me or my life. (Gosh, I
hope this is making sense.)
BHS has some of the most beautiful, and meaningful (to me) lyrics
I've ever heard. Particularly "And my youth I pray to keep." That
one line means so many different things for me, and it a way it's
so simple, but it's also so deep.

Well, I'd better stop. Sorry such a long post. To be continued...

In all, the band should be the topic not seniority.I am one who learns from
questions
and answers, but finds it hard to pay attention to teachers that won't teach.
Therefore let us all find find common ground and learn from everything.

Best song: Though I will change my mind at every new listening,I find,(again)
Drawing Flies to be one of their most creative

Funniest? I can't hear any other song being more comical than Never Named.
As serious as it just may be,it is a very childish song with donkey snorts
and all.

Worst: In my opinion is Blow up the outside world.
It is boring.Although I agree with Sean bout Little Joe.W

Best album? Superunknown is without a doubt the bands greatest sounding
recorded wise, but BMF is so original and unique it wins my vote.

Sexiest: Never thought about that one! To me confidence and originality is
quite sexy
and every album posess' these qualities. As does their songs.

Overall they ARE the best fucking band alive!!! NO COMPARISON.

Subject: To newcomer Kevin w/ all the info. WARNING- LONG POST!!

Kevin,

Sweetie, since you know so much about the unofficial website, maybe you
should check out the archives of this mailing list. That might help you on
here. I'm telling you this b/c, I am recently new also, and you don't want
to get knocked anymore than you are now. What I'm saying is, all this
"blessedly new" info you are supplying us unknowing SOMMSters with is, well,
how should I put it, OLD NEWS!! This is not a mean post! I'm just trying to
help you out a little. Things like how the band was named, how they started,
met, etc, and who were their
various bassists are stuff we've known for quite awhile. Also, most of us
found out about this mailing list ON Seth's website, so we already know about
it. As I found out very fast, the people on this site know what they're
talking about and mean business; they HONESTLY don't need any help from you.
I found out, if you have a common question, go to Seth's website, and if you
can't find it anywhere, then ask the mailing list, *politely*, and explain
that you're new and can't find it anywhere. The best thing to do when you
first join is sit back for a couple of issues and read. Then if you find a
question you think you can answer or you want to add to a thread, go ahead.
The worst thing you could do is bust in here and tell SG experts (well,
that's what they are) simple facts about the band, that's like a HUGE insult.
Everything I wrote was meant to help you, not to insult you. If you're
upset with me for writing this to you, email me privately. Don't post it,
it's no one else's problem.

Now for some SG content (sorry Seth)-

I was away for a week, so I just caught up with my mail. But I wanted to
tell whoever (I forgot) had the idea for the shirt w/ Chris and the words,
"Loud Love" that I would buy that shirt in a pinch!!

My love affair w/ SG has been a slow, but whirlwindish (word?) process. If
I remember correctly, the first song I heard was BHS. But, it had started to
get old by then, so the dj never announced the name, etc. anymore. I was
dying to know who it was by, it was constantly in my head. Then some time
elapsed. I kept hearing TDITTL like once a week, and it drove me nuts trying
to figure out who it was. After awhile I tied the two songs together (my
radio station was brand new at the time and very slow) and since it was my
birthday in a few weeks, I mentioned it to my friend. Well, the day of my
birthday(I had a surprise party!!), I popped SU in w/ everyone there. Holy
crap! I was blown away. Of course, 'cause my friends at the time were
pricks, they only wanted to hear one song, then turn it off. But, after that
day this cd got so much use, it never came out of my cd player. Then DOTU
came out, I got it the day it came out, and for the second time was blown
away. But, I still wasn't my now obsessed self. (By the way, at this time,
I still hadn't seen what the band looked like) Then, my radio station played
SG: Spin session w/ the interview by Eleven. I taped it, this is where my
obsession starts. I had never heard so many amazing songs, and the guys in
the band were so cool. I ran out and bought BMF, and opened the cd case,
just to be hit by a WHAMMY!! I had discovered Chris Cornell(insert angels
singing here). Well, SOMMSters, from there it's all history. Even though I
haven't seen them live yet, it's gonna happen, at least before I die. I'll
be eighty-three in the handicapped mosh section hitting people over the head
with my walker, just to get to the front of the stage!!

Oh, and the song that grabbed a hold of my jugular and whirled me around by
it was JCP. I can feel chills going up my spine just thinking about it. It
was BHS that got me started, and it was JCP that got me CRAZED.

And just to make this an even more incredibly long post, here's a little
anecdote about BHS and my hearing problems. When I first got SU, I used to
almost destroy my speakers by blasting it. Well, every time it came to the
end and Kim was going nuts on guitar (yeah!) and the pitch is really high on
one particular note. Well, smart me hears this, quickly puts the song on
pause, and runs over to pick up the telephone. Yeah, I know, I'm pretty
quick.  The only problem is that I did this continually for a month at least;
I just kept forgetting what it really was. I never said I was Einstein.

Thanks to anyone who bothered to even finish reading this looooooooooooong
post. You have mucho patience.
