Although I don't personally find any SG songs "freaky" or "scary", as
such, i can see what you mean about this song. It has got a feel all of
its own, which is in its very nature, quite dark and sinister. I agree

I was wondering if any of you out there recorded Soundgarden hosting the
Headbangers Ball in '94 where they were bowling.... I saw part of it when it
first aired but I'd like to see the whole thing and add it to my
collection... I am willing to pay for the expenses and add a little bonus or
could try and pick up somthing at one of our local stores to trade with... I
recently saw a copy of the Screaming Life EP . . . not sure if its still
there but it would be a cool trade :~) Till then... see ya all later!!!! :~)

These kind of posts are pissing the hell outta me and we have been
getting a lot of them lately. Look, if you are new to here that's GREAT.
But just before you post, think about whether all *700* of us need to read it.
Also, try to show a little maturity please newbies (and AOL-ers) ok? Thanks

Subject: mailing list etiquette

to follow up vince's message, and also to address people who keep wondering
why they are getting a bad rap, here's some general information i pulled off
of the net:

Mailing List Etiquette

Mailing lis etiquette is for the most part the same brand of common-sense
etiquette you learned at your mother's knee. Be
considerate of others.

Do not type your messages in all upper case, which is considered
SHOUTING. Use the same grammar, punctuation
and style as you would use in any ordinary document. Yes, the email
world uses its own vocabulary of cutesy acronyms,
but don't overuse them, or you will descend into self-parody.

If you are responding to a previous message, quote the relevant portion
so that your reply has a proper context. Do not
     quote the entire message.

Be aware that list participants may come from all over the world.
Don't assume that all your parochial references will be
understood. Be tolerant of spelling and grammatical errors -- not all
subscribers use English as their first language.

Make good use of your email program's subject line. On large lists,
readers often scan subject lines and delete the
messages that don't interest them, so make sure that your subject line
accurately describes your content.

Try to avoid asking questions that have been asked and answered many
times. Some mailing lists maintain a Frequently
Asked Questions (FAQ) file. Read it! Read the list for a week or two
before you post a message -- this will give you a
good idea of the tone and content of typical posts.

- ---------

I realize that some of you do not have web access and therefore cannot view
seth's great soundgarden page, which could answer many of your questions.
If you don't have access and have a specific question, ask the list, someone
will probably be glad to send you the information. Also realize that this
list has been chugging around for a while now, and topics that may seem
exciting to you may have already been discussed ad nauseum here, hence the
reason you don't get an enthusiastic reaction.

on the subject of .sig files (my own pet peeve from when I need to go on
digest format):

Subject: How long can I make my .sig?

Ideally it should be as short as possible while still getting across
whatever you feel is important that it contain. The very best .sig of all is
probably just a single line with your name and email address. Remember that
while an ASCII graphic or witty saying
may be cool the first time, it's going to be boring by the time someone sees
it five times, and if it's large enough to attract the
eye, will get annoying very quickly.

Unlike news, where space is relatively cheap, so larger sigs are more
forgivable, and four lines or more is typically the norm,
mailing lists feed into a person's private mailbox. Thus, each subscriber is
paying for every byte you send them, so if too much
of that is a .sig which contains no useful information, but is just repeated
over and over, many people will quickly start to feel
less favourably inclined towards your contributions to the list.

Subject: Can I post binaries, or other large files to the list?

Almost always, the answer to this is no. Mail sent to mailing lists is going
into subscribers' private mailboxes, some of which are not set up to handle
really large pieces of mail. Typically, you should put large files up on an
ftp or web site, and then post an announcement to the list with instructions
on how to access the files. If you do not have access to ftp or web
facilities, contact the owner of the list, and s/he may be able to help you
out.

There may be a few cases where posting such material would be appropriate,
but you should definitely contact the list owner
first and make sure you have his or her approval before doing so.

- --------

if you ask questions nicely, don't shout on the list, and don't send twenty
one-line posts in which your .sig file is the longest thing in it every day,
we're happy to have you. Just some basic common internet courtesy.

Attention kiddies... I know that a bunch of you are new to SOMMS, so
take heed. Everyone has been *amazingly* tolerant of all the inane crap that
has been posted here in the last month or so... but it has to stop. (And no
cracks about the inane stuff I post, I've done my time on this list and
therefore earned the right to post meaningless crap. ;-) If any of you had
posted last year, you would have been RIGHTFULLY flamed to hell and back. I
know that we're all trying to be nice and get along here... but I'm tired of
it. The "has alot of time on their hands" post was too much. As a fully
authorized SOMMS deputy, I'm afraid that I have to announce this:
***Post anything like that again, and I'll kill you.***
Oops... that was a KTMS post. I meant to say, don't post things like
that anymore please... or else I'll have to get the SOMMS Sheriff (thuggy) to
kill you. Killing is out of my jurisdiction. I can only break kneecaps and
such. *sigh*

Two more quick things... as to the "scariest song" thread, I don't find
any of SG's stuff frightening. Exhilarating, yes... scary, no. My favorite
song for the last month has been "New Damage" with Brian May. I had thought
that "Beyond the Wheel" gave me chills... but THIS song just knocks me over.
Chris really went off on it vocally. I'd *love* to hear him do it live...
just like this version. =)
The second thing is in reference to the SiCA webpage. I know I had
posted that I'd have it finished by today... but I'm running into some snags,
so I'll work on it this weekend, and have it up on Monday. Thanks to
everyone who wrote and asked about it. =) You guys are the greatest!

Seth in his Speedos. Maybe next time..." ~ Chris Cornell

Hey, guys, it's kind of lonely in #SOMMS. I know, I know...it's too
early. Anyway, today I was in CD Exchange (Ok place in town where I
picked up Fresh Deadly Rarities and Stolen Prayers) and I was paying for
a Bjork cd for my friend's birthday present, when the guys who work
there started talking to me. They asked if this (Bjork) was all I was
getting and I said yes; there's no new SG stuff. (Actually, if anyone's
interested in Fresh Deadly Rarities, they have one there. Just email me
if you are, and I'll see what I can do. It's an excellent boot.) Anyway,
the guys are like,"Oh, we're getting in this new, live cd from them.
It's a double cd." Naturally, you can imagine my reaction to this. I had
to know when it was coming in and so on. (not for about 3 or 4 weeks)
Anybody know anything about this? Also, they told me they were getting
in a poster they had had before (but sold) of Chris. It's of his face,
of course. I was obviously interested in that too. Then, to top it all
off, this guy standing next to me started talking to me and asking me if
I like SG. "Well, yes I do", I replied. He then goes on to tell me that
he has a poster of Chris with his hair flipped, bare-chested (Louder
than Love cover, I informed him) that he got from the band a long time
ago when his band opened for SG when they came to San Antonio! WOW! I
didn't really care about the poster, but the band-thing was pretty cool,
I thought. Then I had to leave, because I was already late to class. Oh
well, it was interesting/fun. Um...by the way, #Somms is oh so lonely.

no, they were NOT. nothing in singles was shot at the croc. the
soundgarden footage was shot at RKCNDY, the AiC footage was shot in a
warehouse down on the pier that they set up just for the movie.

and, the moore theatre is an *all ages* venue, so anyone of any age could
have been there.

(but, as seth would remind us, this is the SOUNDGARDEN mailing list, not any
of the completely lame pearl jam lists that exist. go there if you want to
discuss pearl jam)

soundgarden, have indeed shot videos locally, all of Badmotorvision was shot
at a show at the Paramount theatre, and ToTD's "Hunger Strike" was shot in
Discovery Park.

tonight's activity in exciting seattle was viewing a brand-new copy of
PinkPop festival footage, beautiful quality, sound just fine. i love
watching that SG footage, i wish to hell i knew where matt got that shirt
from (or rather, i just want one. i don't care where he got it), it always
looks to me as though kim has a rip in his butt, and chris has his hair
scraggled across his face (which i don't care for).

but my real question is this, during the P***l J**m footage, Mike McCready
is (yet again) wearing a Soundgarden tshirt, with LOUDER THAN MEAT across
the back (which, as we know, was a proposed title for LTL) and the front is
a circle with a picture of what looks like Kim (?) wearing sunglasses, with
"soundgarden" arced around the top and "maximum ________" around the bottom.
my question is, maximum WHAT? (shroom, be quiet. no one asked you. ;-> ).

Louder than meat? I'd never heard that one. Wasn't Louder than Fuck a
proposed title?

To all the new people on the list: it's been said before, and I'm
going to say it once more just to make sure you've got it. You are
more than welcome here. We oldtimers would just lapse into an endless
flurry of inside jokes if new people didn't join us and start new
threads. However, Caryn and Shroom are absolutely right: there's a
right way to do things and there's a wrong way to do things. The right
way would be to follow Caryn's etiquette suggestions. The wrong way
would be to flame her. As much as I like to fancy myself an impartial
listadmin, my judgement is swayed by the length of time you've been on
the list and the amount of Soundgarden-related content you've
contributed. Caryn and Shroom, for example, have what amounts to
permanent immunity (and don't you *dare* let this go to your heads,
you two) -- they've both been around long enough and contributed
enough that they would have to *really* push me to remove them from
the list. With new people, however, I am far less tolerant, and am
becoming less and less tolerant each day. I almost always give
everyone a second chance, but after that, I have no qualms about
removing you from the list. Respect your elders. Or at least have the
decency to use private email if you must flame someone.

On another note, the fact of the matter is that the vast majority of
you have Web access. I know this because your subscribe requests all
come from that lovely little form on the Web page. I urge you to read
what the site has to offer before you post. If there any problems with
finding stuff on the site, I'd be more than happy to direct you to the
right place.

Hey, I hate writing this administrative crap as much as you hate
reading it.

Right on, Shroom. The Alternative NRG version of "New Damage" is far
heavier and more powerful than the BMF version (not that the BMF
version is a skipper by any stretch of the imagination). Chris' scream
at the beginning could give a homicidal maniac the chills.

Please, let's direct correspondence of this nature to saperl@mit.edu.
Surely the whole list needn't be bothered with it. :)
