In a tv interview Chris said it was because it was a really great game; you
get to kill police (joke!)

BTW for those of you who don't already know about it, this interview and
many others, including SG bowling with Rikki Rachtman, can be found on two

It cost me an absolute fortune to get them over here and then converted to

it's worth less because they were charging too fucking much for it in the
first place. when they were *really* rare, yes, mint ones went for $1000
even. but then every greedy bloodsucking collectibles dealer got their
sweaty little paws on one and the market was flooded. the result: prices

this is a forum for fans, fair prices are usually tolerated, but when Dena
in her spare times combs used record stores in her area to find copies of
SOMMS which she then sells to this list for COSTS and POSTAGE, we're not
going to accomodate a price we feel is unfair. we live in a capitalist

Ahhh, this reminds me of that fabulous episode of Headbanger's Ball when Riki
Rachtman and SG are bowling and having a great time--also the time when Chris
displayed his newly shorn locks! Anyways, some of you know that Riki has his
own radio show here in LA. He was talking about getting a new job--being the
host for Rockline. It's a shame we don't get it here in SoCali. Maybe Riki
will do an interview with SG. They seemed compatible together. Better than
those old-fart radio-show hosts who don't even know about the band their
interviewing!

I remember Chris said (Rockview interview) how much he enjoyed going to the
'90 Grammys, 'cos normally he'd never have the chance to see acts such as
Billy Joel or Milli Vanilli <choke> perform live.
but then....

Caryn wrote

at some point Chris must have changed his mind, 'cos I read and heard
(another radio interview) that he didn't even want to go to the '95 Grammys.
He said he felt uncomfortable surrounded by all the big-shot musicians
arriving in their limos, and the only reason he went, was 'cos 'his manager'
(why doesn't he just say Susan?) persuaded him to go, saying it's a good
chance to thank his fans, friends and family. He agreed and said that he
couldn't hide from award shows forever, or else people would think he's a snob.

From this I conclude that Chris enjoyed the Grammy award show at first, 'cos
it was new and exciting to him, but that at one point he got fed up with all
the hype surrounding it. I'm sure he still appreciates it to some extent,
but I also think he'd prefer an award given to him by his fans (through
magazine polls or something). I don't know about the rest of the band, but
I'm sure they feel the same way.

obvious corners of several homepages:

"the *ONLY* OFFICAL SOUNDGARDEN SITE
The only place where you can hear unreleased live
music, see extensive official photo documentation,
access official fan club information and obtain
endorsed Soundgarden merchandise. Visit the other

ahhhhhh... the fine art of being subtle :) Convincing aren't they?
ummm..... I haven't found the 'unreleased live music', but if anyone else
has, let me know. To those, wondering what the photo documentations is, it's
a collection of photos of the band, taken by Alain (Eleven). They don't
really show the band that clearly, but I'm assuming they were taken for
artistic purposes. And where else can you find a pic of Chris
morphing....... into himself?

No really, I'm not flaming the Official Page. I know they've (Management, I
presume) put a lot of hard work into it. But do they have to be so darn
obvious? I think they're trying a little *too* hard to lure people to their
site, but it's most probably 'cos they know how popular the unoff. site is....

Any artist/record company relationship involves compromise. I'm sure it was
the record company's idea, but I am equally sure Soundgarden just said
"yeah, whatever". They probably want to concentrate on the things they do
best and leave that stuff to the record execs. They aren't Fugazi and
they've never been shy of saying they wanted to be on a major label.

Same with the fact that these bonus tracks aren't anything new. If and when
Christi et al are ever released it will be because *the band* wants them to
be released. Although I'm sure A&M would be more than happy to put them out.

But from a practical point of view, the Australian market probably isn't big
enough to justify an ep of exclusive, unreleased tracks. And with the Big
Day Out almost upon you Aussies (you lucky things!) there will be a lot of
people there who will (hopefully) get turned onto Soundgarden who won't have
Gun etc.

And we'll be here to tell them who that Hiro guy is :-)

there is so much they could do with the official site and don't bother to
that it's their own damn fault. they think like html hacks and not like
producers. erin haley was taking pictures at the showbox show with her

Hi guys, and Aleko, Happy New Year, this is my first post of the year, I

Im going to see them in Newcastle as well on the 29th Jan. and then the

And last night of friend of mine mentioned a rumoured surprise support gig
for the John Spencer Blues Explosion, not sure whether this is in Sydney or
not and these Blues Explosion guys havent announced any gigs as far as I
know, I havent gotten hold of this weeks Drum Media to check yet...... so
that is a bit exciting and could be another chance to see SG. I'll keep you
all updated if I find out anything more.

I cant stand You Am I either, and the other support are the Fauves, honestly
they could have come up with better than that, how about the Hanging Tree or

actually prefer S & V chips.......

Yeah, I have to agree with Caryn about imusic. As far as unofficial sites
go, seth's is the best i've seen so far. It's a amazing how ONE fan can have
so much SG info on his site. I have not yet seen a PJ site like this, and
they're pretty damn popular. Not to diss other 'unofficial' sites--they're
good too, but I have seen nothing yet that compares to seth's. I can also
say that they're's nothing too artsy-fartsy on his site. Downloading images
is not so damn time-consuming!

Wow, this was like a once in a lifetime thing. I doubt I'll ever see it
again. The video was pretty cool. The video is just the boys on stage,
interspersed with cars crashing into each and police chases. Jason
Everman's on bass. It was sorta cheesy though, cause all 4 guys were
headbanging in unison. Matt looked weird with long hair.

Subject: Matt

Uh...who's got the picture of Matt in his underpanties? I'd really appreciate
a copy if at all possible...

While I was watching TV the other day, a quaint little thought popped up in
my quaint little mind...wouldn't a cooking show hosted by Chris Cornell be
(pardon the term) groovy? Although the thought of dead fish and squealing
lobsters doesn't exactly turn me on, the fact that Chris would be cooking
them does.

So does the thought of Matt in his underwear! Again, I'd be greatly
appreciative towards anyone who could get me a copy.

Thanks,

He he he he...

"It's just how we feel: a lot of frustration, agression, anger, and
heartbreak. If that's what comes across in our songs, than that's our
message"

A quote from Michael Apple you say? Actually, this is quoted from the
sleeve of 1980's Identity Crisis 7". This is Kim Thayil's high school
punk band... and boy do they suck! :) They're so bad that they're
good!
The line-up:
Joe Zake - Drums
John Ross - Vocals (you call THAT vocals?!?!)
Kim Thayil - Guitar (who would have ever believed...)
John Pavitt - Bass (yup, his brother is you-know-who)

The Songs:
Pretty Feet (Kim Thayil, 3:28)
Overtime (John Ross, 2:01)
Born To Be A Bozo (Kim Thayil, :26)

The sleeve has a "pretty cool" picture of the band on the back, each
member is fully equipped in 80's gear - not to mention the beardless Kim
Thayil... Hey, all you Canadians out there? Do you remember the show
"Degrassi Junior High"??? 'everbody's got something they'll never give
up...' He he he... Pics coming soon!

Subject: New Classic Song for Jamie C.

This week, Burden In My Hand joined the ranks of such songs as
"Smells Like Teen Spirit", "Rockin To The PM" (Raw Fusion), "Run & Hide"
(The Watchmen), "Rooster" (AIC), "Bop Gun" (the Ice Cube version, "How
Will I Laugh Tomorrow" (Suicidal Tendencies), "State Of Love & Trust"
(PJ) and Outshined as a classic song.
	I deem a song a "classic" when it manages to stand the test of time;
when it it still has a profound effect on me after many, many listens.
Most of the other songs took a while before making onto this elite (?)
list, but I find that BIMH is a worthy choice. I know it sounds pretty
trendy, but I feel that it is the best song on DOTU, IMHO.
Still under consideration: "Here Is No Why" (SP), "Under The Bridge"
(which has been passed over a couple of times), Say Hello 2 Heaven (just
realized its impact on my young, circa 1992, grade 10 life), and "The
Bazaar" (The Tea Party)

there.
just wanted to share that.

Subject: What's the scariest Soundgarden song?

i have an idea for a thread. let's hear everybody's scariest soundgarden
songs. the songs that you wouldn't want to hear by yourself, alone, in the
dark.

i pick "toy box". that song scares the shit out of me, even during the day.
just imagine something bad happening during that song. it fits perfectly.
it's so eerie and dark; the riff is almost hypnotic.

some other songs that freak me out are "applebite" and "no wrong no right."

imagine you're at home alone listening to "entering", then someone tries to
break in. spooky. then when he confronts you, imagine "nothing to say"
playing.

imagine it's a rainy night. you're being chased through the woods. "hunted
down" would fit nicely. i always picture it being used during the movie
"the fugitive."

any other freaky songs?

Vasant

In a message dated 97-01-15 02:32:08 EST, you write:

<< it's worth less because they were charging too fucking much for it in the
first place. when they were *really* rare, yes, mint ones went for $1000
even. but then every greedy bloodsucking collectibles dealer got their
sweaty little paws on one and the market was flooded. the result: prices
dropped. $300, $500 are the prices you see nowadays and if you find one,
it's usually sitting there for a very long time, if not permanently.

The reason why it was commanding so high of a price isn't because of " every
greedy bloodsucking collectibles dealer:, it's beacuse every person out there
was willing to spend the money to get...and they did. Prices in the market
cannot be blamed on the dealer if the market is buying it at that price.
Yes, prices did become too high for the album. But people still paid. And
I have yet to see a Butchers priced at $300 to $500 NOT move for an extended
period of time...in all my years of collecting.

this is a forum for fans, fair prices are usually tolerated, but when Dena
in her spare times combs used record stores in her area to find copies of
SOMMS which she then sells to this list for COSTS and POSTAGE, we're not
going to accomodate a price we feel is unfair. we live in a capitalist
society, save me the lectures, this isn't a forum where we take advantage of
each other. *that's* what we're talking about here. just because you can
take advantage of someone doesn't mean you should. *shrug*
  >>

Please! The only reason why the price of this Promo is so high is because
A&M releases it it limited supply, for radio only, then says "Please don't
sell this disc<wink, nudge>!". What does that do? Drives people to spend
large amounts of money which raises the fan hysteria which increases the fan
base which sells more records. The only reason why this is priced so high is
because fans pay that amount of money for it. So who's the real fan: the
person who buys it at cost and sells it at cost OR the person who pays little
and sells for a lot. It's moot because in the end, you're both just part of
the corporate plan in the end to promote the band(which, yes is a promotional
and marketing strategy...maybe you can work with me at a label sometime).
I'd just rather be a paid pawn than just a pawn . As Ani DiFranco said
(someone who has never sold out ), "If I'm gonna go down, I'm gonna do it
with style."

I didn't mean you, Taylor (actually I'd have to say "us" because I feel
the same way about the Grammys). I mean the artists who get nominated and
then whine about it. Actually I disagree that the Grammys represent
commercial rather than artistic accomplishment, at least as far as
Soundgarden is concerned. UltraMegaOK was nominated in 1988 and it was
far from commercial. Soundgarden seems to represent "risk-taking", or
maybe "political correctness" to the Grammys.

My whole point was that just because they are nominated it doesn't mean
they buy into the whole scene.

Now you're getting it:))

Subject: I have the Aus bonus CDs.......Down Under on the Upside

After yesterday's post to the list I heard nothing from anyone about =
them actually having one of these disks, so I'm assuming they aren't yet =
out in America?

Well, they're here in Australia. Georgia has hers too. Just thought =
I'd let anyone interested know a bit about it:

The CD looks exactly the same as the plain DOTU, except on the spine as =
well as 'down on the upside' it has, in upside down writing, 'down under =
on the upside'. And inside the CD cover are two CDs, not one. The =
first one is the same as the standard DOTU - a dark purple colour =
picture of the band. The second one - bonus - looks exactly the same =
but the CD is red, not purple. It has the songs listed on the actual CD =
(as DOTU has), the same as Seth had posted the list, and there is a bit =
of info about each song on the inside back cover. No lyrics for them =
like with DOTU.
