Subject: Biased Calendar

Okay... it's my first time to post so I hope I am doing this right.
Hey, there is a first time for everything. I just wanted to express my
confusion about the 97 Soundgarden calendar. I mean we all know Chris is
very easy to look at and he's a great subject for the camera but I
always understood that there were four talented people in Soundgarden.
The 96 cal. had 6 pic's of Chris, 2 of Kim, 2 of SG, 1 of Matt, and 1 w/
Matt & Chris. This year's features 10 of Chris and only two of SG. Is
this the year that everyone is going to jump on the ***CC bandwagon ***
and ride it all the way to the ground until it crashes and burns? I sure
hope not. I think that whoever arranged the calendar should have not
forgotten the other three guys we love and respect so much. BTW= my
fav. pic's from the 96 cal. were Oct. and July (Matt pounding away) and
this year's is definitely Feb. Don't you wish your sweetheart looked
like this??????
****** I hope Chris is not headed for the bottom
because everyone is riding him all the way******
                                              Concerned, trishy

Further to the many enquiries and discussion regarding this CD, I am happy
to try to chase down a few copies here in Perth.

Anyone wanting a copy (please don't forget, a CD costs around $30.00 over
here), please send me personal mail, and between me & Carolyn (and any other
Australian SOMMSters) lets see what we can come up with!

I'll try to get hold of a few of these CD's in exchange for some really
cool, exciting bootlegs, EP's that I might not have, or videos (are US
videos compatible with Aust. ones?). Let's get some serious trading
happening here!!!!

his obsenity is his lustful desire for women. the song, Drawing Flies, is
about masturbating to a pornographic magazine and his ambilavence he has for
it. he sings about defending himself against the persecution associated
with the act (a common SG theme) but also has a tone of self-blame in the
song with words like "obsenity", "negativity", "self-denial". he's
struggling with what doing this act says about him as a person. trying not
to believe those he's defending himself against, but having a hard time
convincing himself.

probaly not what you were looking for, but i think an accurate intepretation
of the song nonetheless. the imagery created in this song and the metaphors
used in doing so makes this one of my fav SG songs. anyone like to add or
contradict what this song is about?

Someone with connections to management (nudge nudge, wink wink) needs to
*persuade* management to book Las Vegas. And while they're at it...put in a

i don't think anyone knows for sure what the next single will be.
"dusty" happens to be the fourth track on the dotu pre-release
sampler; the first three tracks are "pretty noose," "burden in my
hand," and "blow up the outside world."

whatever the next single is, it seems likely that it will be released
as a 2-part box and a 7" in europe, and a cd in australia, like the
other three dotu singles. if they edit it for radio, there will likely
be a promo-only disc in the united states that includes the lp version
and the edit version of the track (a la "blow up the outside world").

well, now i have to go listen to it AGAIN because i have to say i never

I was wasting my time reading Rolling Stone's daily news when I
stumbled upon an article about STP's canceled New Year's Eve show in
Alaska and the rumors surrounding Weiland, etc. Here's an excerpt:

- -----

The band's crew and gear (borrowed from Soundgarden) had already
arrived in Anchorage, and STP had been expected on a 6 p.m. flight New
Year's Eve. "We have 8,000 angry fans up here," says Program Director
J.J. Michaels. "It was a sold-out show."

- -----

Given the general idea of a song like "Karaoke," it seems odd that
Soundgarden would be supporting STP's efforts...

Hi all,

This is a post mainly for any Aussies on the list who happen to be =
interested in silverchair (Mandy?). Tonight on television the video to =
their new single, "Freak" (due to be released on the 13th of this month) =
will be opening 'Rage' - at 12.50 am. It will also be the last video =
played at midday tomorrow, when 'Rage' ends.

The bassist from Devo (his name escapes me just now) produced the video. =
He also produced Devo's own video to "Whip It", and then of course he =
recently produced the video of Soundgarden's "Blow Up The Outside World" =
(which I still haven't seen :-( ).=20

He seems to have some rather weird ideas! This silverchair video =
apparently shows the three band members sweating like crazy in a =
room-sized oven. The video is mainly about an ugly old lady who, after =
drinking the sweat of the three guys=20
[Shroom, why does that remind me of you? :-)]
, turns young and beautiful. But she isn't satisfied, wants more of =
this stuff that makes her so attractive, drinks more, but turns into a =
fish-like ugly freaky creature. =20

Hmmmmm, I'll be interested to see it! :-)

A new Metallica filmclip will also be shown - not sure which one.

well i have had an interesting experience...wonder if anyone can relate....

After chicago, i took a big break from SG, the biggest one in years. Not
immediately after the weekend, but soon after (i think after the drive
home). Until then I had barely gone a day without listening to even a few
bars of SG for years...I think the experience in Chicago was so intense,
that it seemed almost mundane to do just listen to a CD - somehow it seemed
to take away from it all. So I dove myself into Failure and Molly McGuire
and relived my Quicksand days and and and...

Well the break ended yesterday. I started craving SG like chocolate..And
now I am going thru an obsession like I never have before. It is like I am
hearing the music all again for the first time, in a totally different way.
Spoonman even brought tears to my eyes...(no, not cuz the song is sad but
because of what it brought back to me...)

OK OK I will stop being an emotional sap (not news to those who know me ;-)
but I just thought I'd share...I usually listen to a band more *after* an
experience like that, so it was strange...

Subject: BUTOW import singles....

were located in extreme profusion tonight at Tower Records here in Seattle.
If they had 'em, chances are your local tower (or their web site) might be
able to help you out. they've got both pieces -- i wimped out (well, i went
in for two damn 60 minute blank tapes and ended up spending $70, including
cleaning out their stock of pearl jam's new single on 7") and only got the
one with the 'dusty' remix. they had so many that if i REALLY want it
later, i can go get it...

Subject: Flower video

Hey everybody,
As some of you may know, I'm the resident movie maker on the list. I'm
slowly making an mpeg clip of all of Soundgarden's videos. But there is
a problem. I don't have and have never seen the Flower video. What I
would like to do is, to get it, and encode it (the entire thing) so that
Seth can post it on the Unofficial Soundgarden website. Then, everybody
will have access to it. So what I was thinking was this: Muchmusic has
a show called RSVP (Requested songs for Video Play), in which they play
requested videos. I'm hoping that if we deluge MuchMusic with requests
for Flower they will play it. The email address is: rsvp@muchmusic.com
Please mail them now, with the request in the subject heading and body.
There is one other option. If somebody has it on tape, they could send
it to me. I would reward such persons heavily. If you have a copy of
the flower video, or know the whereabouts, please email me privately.
Thanks,
Geoff
p.s. email rsvp@muchmusic.com now!!!

Subject: DOTU pack

Hi again,

Geogia - good idea about you trying to get a few of these bonus CD packs =
in Perth also. I've had MANY MANY requests from Sommsters for one - =
even if I'm lucky enough to get some I doubt I'll be able to satisfy all =
of you. :-(

I am confident I have enough people who will reimburse us for our =
purchases, so Georgia, get to it and I'm sure we won't be out of pocket. =
 People, we'll do our best!!

Oh, and there have been some mighty interesting offers, I tell ya! =
Scott, much as I love cats, I have two of my own (Topsy & Turvy, my two =
fat cats), so you can keep yours! =20

I'll write again when I have some copies in my hot little hand..........

Subject: RE: drawing flies

Bill Walsh suggested that 'Drawing Flies' is about:
>>his obsenity is his lustful desire for women. the song, Drawing =
Flies, is
about masturbating to a pornographic magazine..............

Caryn mentioned that she hadn't thought of it like that before.

Well, I hadn't either! (maybe we're too sweet and innocent) ;-)
Reading through the lyrics just now I can see why Bill thinks the way he =
does. Firing canons, bathed in perspiration, firing pistols - hmmmmmmm.

DF is my 2nd favourite SG song. It has such energy, and I love singing =
along with CC as it's so damn FAST! I will have to have more listens =
now also, to try and take on board this new interpretation............
