Does that really surprise anybody, though? Alice In Chains is a little
surprising, all things considered. But POTUSA is pretty obvious.

POTUSA is a part of the passing fake-punk fad that's crossing our country.
Kids all over are scooping up anything that has three chords and simple

Good catch, Shroom.

Saying that Nirvana was a great band is really a misunderstanding of their
music. Kurt's whole life was built around staying out of the spotlight and
just telling people about his sorry-ass life through music. He said a lot
about society and business. Quoting Tool's "Eulogy", "He had a lot to
say/he had a lot of nothing to say/we'll miss him."

And it's true. He had a lot of nothing to say. And then, Nirvana signed on
with a major label. That's pretty much the biggest travesty that Seattle
has ever experienced. But that didn't come from Kurt. That came from his
quick-to-sell-out drummer Grohl. Or maybe it's I'll-do-anything-for-a-buck
drummer Grohl.

Foo Fighters. 'Nuff said.

And just to clarify, yes, Soundgarden is high and mighty and without doubt
is the closest thing to total fucking godhead that we'll ever experience.

Naah. They probably weren't on a trendy channel like MTV. Who was on?
Probably a few sell-out punkers.

Grunge is dying, remember. It's losing it's allure. People are trading in
their Soundgarden, Mudhoney, and Nirvana tee's for a Greenday shirt, a
Smashing Pumpkins hat, and pretty soon, a Face To Face shirt too (they
signed with A&M. Remember what happened to Soundgarden when they signed
with A&M. Louder Than Love... the heavy metal album that wasn't. :-)...)

Read "New Metal Crown" by Chris Nickson. Wear a t-shirt. Worship them
regularly. Don't forget to make sure that Chris's picture is 8 and a half
by 11 on the alter, and the other three only a quarter of the size. And if
you're Christian, include them in your weekly prayers. And if you've ever
got time to kill, stand on a soapbox on a busy street corner and preech the
second coming... say it's in the body of Christ Cornell.

That's how you can become a real Soundgarden fan.

Oh, yes!! That's right, Toni! Everyone is invited to SommsStock 97
when Soundgarden comes to Oklahoma City this spring and I just know they
will. (Right, Matt? Remember? You promised! Well, not exactly
promised, but you did say youd like to go to Oklahoma, didnt you?
Sure you did! Who wouldn't want to go to Oklahoma?!!)

We can all camp out at my place! Imagine it. 10 acres of Soundgarden
fans!! Our farmer neighbors will be delighted. The cows will be mooing
along to Spoonman! Spoooomoooonman! The chickens will be singing Kyle
Petty! Hard headed cluck you all!!

Oh, theres nothing like starting out the new year being stupid....
BUTT seriously, if 1997 is even half as great for me Soundgarden-wise,
it should be a very good year!

Hi.

Wow... I haven't posted in like 5 months...

The classic rock radio station (100.3fm the Bear) in Edmonton did a
countdown of the top 100 of 1996 (like a lot of stations did, I guess).
They base the countdown on airplay and on album sales. Burden in my Hand
came in at #1.

Is the Making of Superunknown CD any good? It's been at HMV for a few
months for $10 Canadian. What is it exactly?

That's all...

From: SJordet@aol.com
Subject: Please don't squeeze the Charmin!

To all of you Sommsters out there who just skim through the posts (including
myself) please read this one entirely. I think you will find it interesting.
I have written here an abridged version of the Soundgarden Bible - I know
it's a corny name, someone help me find something better to call this,
please. OK here we go:

I, Sarah, have settled happily for a small, unique, thoughtful, and
special religion, known as Soundgardenism. It is not the most popular, only
about 700 other people are faithful to this content, simple religion, but
that is what makes it special. We are all one family, Soundgarden is our
center of life, its music our prayers, its members our gods. We follow the
simple guidelines of this religion happily, and would do anything, anything
at all, to please our sincere, beautiful gods. As a member of this religion,
I, just as anyone else who is a member, am never shaken away from my thoughts
and feelings of love and thankfulness towards the gods and Their servants.
These four gods are:

Ben Shepherd, god of spit, leather pants, and messy hair - also
known as "The Young One", "The Tall One", or "The Angry One":
surely the god I worship on the highest level, for his sweet,
crystal blue eyes, his long legs, his cute ass, and his large, sexy hands.
28 years old, he was born in Okinawa, Japan. Sommsters know him best for his
angry style of playing, spitting on people, flipping them off - all
ways he shows his affection towards us. (right?)

Matt Cameron, god of carpal tunnel, fluid and easy going style, and
contraversial hair color - also known as "The Approachable One",
and "The Other Sex Toy":
held on high regards by many for his friendliness, talent, and all-
around adorableness. 34, he was born in San Diego and got his first big break

singing "Puberty Love" for the stupid late-seventies movie
"Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" when he was 15. He plays very
enthusiastically, big goofy smiles adorn his adorable face as he bashes away
shamelessly.

Chris Cornell, god of a loin-straining voice, large hands, and women:
the blink of his eyes brings women to hysteria and is the subject of
countless
fantasies around the world. ANY bodily function - pissing, drooling, picking
his nose -
is considered sexy if Chris does it. There is too much to say about this
32 year old who was born in Seattle, so I will sum it up quickly -
gorgeous face, gorgeous voice, gorgeous soul, and very nice nipples.

Kim Thayil, god of mind-boggling solos, long hair and humor:
Kim is Kim. 36, either born in Seattle or Chicago, Kim is phenominal
and, well, everybody loves Kim.

To appease the gods, you must follow these simple rules:

1. Worship the ground they walk upon. But do it from somewhat of a distance -
it's impolite to come crashing into them, knocking them over and pinning
their
arms down while sucking the tongue out of their mouth and frantically
unfastening their pants.

2. Bash Hootie and the Blowfish whenever you can. For example:
"Their music all sounds the same",
"They have no imagination",
"Their videos are boring and supid as hell."
I'm sure you can think of more.

3. Bash Bush whenever you can. Avoid as much contact as
possible with them and their music. Or, get close enough to Gavin
to stuff a lit firecracker down his front pocket and run before the jewels
fly. That man needs to be castrated.

4. MEMORIZE, MEMORIZE, MEMORIZE! Memorize thier songs, memorize
thier lyrics, memorize their basslines, memorize any body details
(you can use a bit of imagination in this department).

5. Love Soundgarden and be kind to other people who love Soundgarden
as much as you do.

By following these simple guidelines, you shall be a true Sommster, and may
you be baptized in the spit of The Tall One.

So, whaddya think? Please let me know if anyone wants to add anything, or
think of more names for people, or something you feel needs to be said and
was left out.

                                          Atrociously,
                                            -Benlover-

Ok, on to SG related things. There is this bootleg video that I found, and

KIM. I heard about this CD that was suposed to come out in spring '96. I
never really found it. It's called Great Guitarist of the World. Anyone out
there hear about it but me?

Anyone know where I can get the '97 calendar? I'm dyin' to get it. There
can never be too much soundgarden through the year.

As for the countdown thing. why is it that Bush seems to top the charts? I
hate Machinehead. I think that's one of the worst Bush songs ever made.

About the Moby remix: Thanks to the awesome Sabrina Knauf, I was
able to get a hold of the BUTOW singles, parts one and two. Part
one which featured Gun, Get on the Snake, and Splice left a lot to
be desired. Why of all the possible b-sides that they could have
put on here, did they pick these? Anyway, the real highlight was
on part two..the moby remix of dusty. This is one of the coolest
things that I have ever heard. Highly impressive and definitely
recommended. I cannot emphasize this enough.

Does anyone want to begin speculating on what b-sides are
going to be on their next single which is supposed to be Dusty
(right?)..
