Just wanted to let you guys know, that I was breezing through People
magazine in the doctor's office, when I came across their list of best
releases for '96.... and SG's DOTU was on it, so I did what any other SG fan
would do...... I...ummm..... borrowed that page it was on (I'll return it
the next time I go back....hehe :)

Here's what it said:

"Down on the Upside, Soundgarden: With Kurt Cobain gone from this world, the
Seattle band keeps the torch of the city's sound burning with its blend of
molten metal and irresistible, pop-lovely melody (A&M)

and just a little trivia: DOTU is #47 on Billboard's year-end chart for
1996. Among those who outsold it are releases by AiC (studio album, not
unplugged) and POTUSA.

Now what were you saying only a few weeks ago, Shroom and Caryn, about
Soundgarden not being very conscientious and caring when it came to crowd
safety? Maybe this list wields more power than it knows! :-)

Welcome Tigger! And everyone else who has just discovered somms. Yes, we are
lovely :-) Some people on this list like Bush, some most definitely don't,
but I can promise ,somms is *the* coolest and most awesome mailing list around.

Well, I'm off to scan some more pornographic pix for Shroom's page...

Yeah... there's something you can do. You can keep listening. Buy their
albums. Be a fan. Wear a shirt once in a while. Read "New Metal Crown" by
Chris Nickson. Tell people that you like Soundgarden. If you're in a band,
play a Soundgarden cover.

I wouldn't be surprised. Sonic Youth is a Sub Pop band, after all. They're
all friends, it seems. Who mixed that song? If it was Steve Fisk (hmmm...

Woohoo!! /me boogies! That is the BEST thing I've read in awhile!
Hmmm... it's also the FIRST time I've ever heard of SG doing anything like
that. Must've been a pretty bad crush of people. Happily it didn't turn out
like that sad Smashing Pumpkins show where people died. Jeez, when will

Well, I've been on the list for about five months, and I've finally decided
to write in. Like every one else I think of writeing in on a topic, but I
never get a chance to. A lot of people think I like Soundgarden just for
Chris Cornell, but I fell in love with their music before I fell in love with
him. This summer I went to my first Soundgarden concert. It was Lollapalooza,
and I went with my best friend and we had a blast in South Florida. My
favorite part of the concert had to of been the drunk people (even though
when Soundgarden started playing people around me may have thought I was
drunk) I screamed and hooted when I heard the intro to Spoonman.
I have been dieing to see Soundgarden again, but since I am only 15 years old
I candrive any where. I am not a computer genius, or a computer nerd, but I
don't ever mind surfing any music (espically Soundgarden) related sites. I
love to check my e-mail every day, but I don't always get around to it. So
you can write me back send pictures of the band or you, or even ask me to
check out any web sites. I won't mind. But remember: don't be to peppy
because happiness is a chronic disorder!!

What is this I hear... some soundgarden fans are fueding because of age?!? I
am only 14 years old (I'll be 15 in Feb.) and even I know at least one reason
we should get along. We all have one commen thread and that's Soundgarden's
wonderful music. People of all ages should be aloud to write in about
soundgarden to share opinions with every one. Us young people aren't
critisizeing the older members for being "stuck in the past" or "tring to
relive their childhoods". We all just want to get along.

From: sweetwater6@juno.com (M R)

Yeah, I agree. I'm 14 also (and turning 15 in Feb. also), and a lot of
older fans call me a poseur or whatever for liking Soundgarden. I mean,
really, we can't help it if we weren't listening to music when their
older albums came out. That doesn't mean that we can't appreciate the
music in the same way that anyone else does. We just got into it a little
bit later. Even though the first Soundgarden album I heard was
Superunknown I still consider myself a real fan and I think I know what
their music is about, just as much as the original fans.
Fortunately, though, some people (especially on this list) are pretty
open-minded about us, and they're willing to include us in their
discussions and everything, so I think that's really awesome, and thanks
to all of you.
And for the older fans...I'm not trying to make any
generalizations...really. I respect everyone who's been with the band
since the beginning.
Sorry for the long post...

i'm also the lister with the funky aol provider. i hate this damn provider!
i'll use them for their 50 hours and then dispose of them like a dirty

oh yeah, thine SOMMSter shouldst be in her abode at the hour of midnight,

The #somms we use is on any *Undernet* server. The official list of
Undernet servers is at http://servers.undernet.org/server-list.html --
note that the names are given without the necessary ".undernet.org,"
so "ann-arbor.mi.us" is really "ann-arbor.mi.us.undernet.org"

By the way, happy new year to everyone -- this is the third new year
the website has seen and the second new year this mailing list has
seen. I hope there will be many more for both...
