honestly, i like the 'fly paper' version much better than the one
with the chains. not that there is *that* much difference in the two,
they're both pure sex, but i just like the fly paper one more. i have
them both on tape (thanks to Eric, i believe) and they're not very
complicated videos, but definately not boring ones either.

now, to my christmas joy!
i now own both Motorvision and Louder Than Live!!! = ) woo hoo!
sometimes i just love my friends... = ) personally, i perfer the
shooting and sound of MV to LTL. LTL is good... but i don't like b&w
movies hardly at all, so that already had me going "um..." when it
first started. but i just SOO envy the people who got to see SG in
tiny venues like that. my first experience with them was in Philly's
Electric factory, holder of 3064. = ( and the stage was so high up,
that i could only see them from like the knees up sometimes.= ( kinda
disappointing if you ask me. um, i'm rambling now. sorry!
my point was i now own those videos and i'm SO HAPPY! = ) have a
great christmas everyone! i'll be here the whole time with what few
of us SOMMSters are staying, so see ya later..

What's up with this statement? Why is everyone against prejudice against
people under 20? I'm 14, and I love SG and I have a right to be on this
mailinglist just as much as anyone else. That's a total stereotype? Am I

Subject: A very merry Soundgarden Christmas

well, here's to all of you just incase I don't show up durring the
vacation.....Merry Chris-tmas and a hapy new year(don't drink too much)!

Next item on the agenda...you know you've got a friend when she gives you a
folder full of Soundgarden pictures for Christmas, thanx Julia.

on to more universal topics....I'll reply to all of you talking about
soundgarden becoming mainstream. I have to agree with who said that Sg is
just popular, not mainstream. Metallica and Pearl Jam are main stream. You
hear a topic rise up about the rock music scene, you usually hear Pearl Jam
somewhere in that sentence. Soundgarden, however, is just popular. Just
look at this list. Over 700 people! You don't have the media all jumping on
this bandwagon, do you? People just have to realize that soundgarden is
being noticed by people who never heard of them before. They are just
gaining, hopefully, devoted fans!

I make my peace now by saying....Love, Peace, SOUNDGARDEN,
the original preety noose(the baby of the list)

P.S. How many people would freak out if Soundgarden came out with a Christmas
single? Wow, just think about how Silent Night would sound!

Hi guys!
I just felt like sharing today, here goes:
Someone said something about Chris and Jesus Christ Poses - He did the
"pose" during the JCP encore and I just dug it. Is there any merchandise I
can get with Chris in this pose - the t-shirts at the show just had a
skeleton in the pose (didn't like 'em).
My favorite song (right now, this is always subject to change) is "Drawing
Flies", it has kind of a groovy horn thing going on (I remember someone
asking this not long ago).
As for the "Details" shoot. Chris can do as many glam shots as he likes - I
have more walls in my office.
And oh yah, Gavin might be an ass but he sure is a BABE.
Anyway,
Happy Holidays All,
Staci

Fly paper? It's polyethylene, or poly for short. It's used extensively
in construction. It's in your walls, it's in your roof, and has
litterally dozens of other uses. I think it's safe to assume they are
on a construction site. Chris is also surrounded by bx's. BX's are
those coilly electrical conduits. But as mentioned, the videos are
quite similar.

Same here. I got it yesterday. At one time, years ago (before they
charged $12) I was in the fan club, but I haven't gotten anything in
probably two years. I figured they must have gotten my address from the
letter I wrote to Silver Management, since they're in the same building,
but that only had MY address on it. Did anyone else who was involved in
the Chicago meeting get a surprise package from the fan club?

I'm confused about the fan club anyway. I first started wondering when
the president of the club called me to tell me they had some tickets for
the Chicago shows and when I asked how I could contact her she said at
the Silver Management number. And then, after the concert, I offered to
help if the fan club ever decided to do regional chapters and this is
part of what she wrote me:

> As far as fan club chapters, we have received many inquiries about this

I don't know about you people who have been in the fan club over the
past few years, but I certainly never saw the fan club as terribly
active or consistent as far as mailings or anything. And aren't fan
clubs usually started and maintained by "fans"? I felt like her response
was pretty patronizing. Any thoughts?

Happy Solstice everyone.

Subject: mainstreaming

what is everyone's infatuation with whether or not a band has become
"mainstream" or not? is there actually an exact definition for the
word? how many people realize that many bands (including SOUNDGARDEN)
would never get as far as they are if they do not
flow/adjust/tweak/bow/whatever to what society and record companies
need.

you can talk wind about how if a band doesn't stay true to their vision,
then they suck. but also, you can't get ahead in your job if you try to
rebel against it constantly. you will get thrown out on your ass and
will not be able to produce anything worthwhile. this is how i look at
the record industry. yes it isn't fair. yes it sucks. but that's
America. even if SOUNDGARDEN has/is/was/will "sell-out", isn't it only
important that the fans enjoy the MUSIC? i don't listen to SOUNDGARDEN
because they sign million dollar record deals or make ten mints off of
royalties. . .i listen to them because i LOVE THEIR MUSIC. i don't eat
food that i don't like. i don't watch movies i don't like. and i don't
listen to music i don't like. just because a band has become
"mainstream" or has "sold-out" is no reason to turn against them.
sometimes a band has to do what a band has to do.

if their is anyone out their who is in the record business and has more
to say or would like to correct me, please do so. i am not an authority
on this subject. . .this is merely an attempt to bring others' logic and
my own into some sort of agreement.

yep, it's the complete show. it might have been even shorter than usual
because of the satellite time -- e.g., gnr had to hit the stage at a
specific time to get the North American audience so they might have cut sg
short, but i doubt it -- don't forget it was 1992 and they weren't the
commercial alternative superstars they are now <grin>

it's 6/6/92 at the Hippodrome in Paris...

From: SJordet@aol.com
Subject: Re: Religion and SG

Billy,

To answer your question about Soundgarden and all their "religious
crap", from what I gather, Soundgarden is not a very religious band. They're
all Christian, but not incredibly enthusiastic about it.

In one interview, Chris was asked: "Many of your songs, including Black
Hole Sun, and Fourth of July, trade in dark, apocalyptic imagery. Does any of
that flair for the dramatic come from your having grown up Catholic?"
Chris: "Yeah, I'm sure some of it does, but you wouldn't catch it in an
entire song."
He was also asked: "Have you put your religious training behind you, or
is it something you still think about a lot?"
Chris: "No, it isn't. I feel sorry for the people who honestly swallow
it. To me they're fish. I don't wanna be a fish."

He describes Jesus Christ Pose, another supposedly religious song: "
'Jesus Christ Pose' , people think, is an angry religous reference, but it
doesn't have a thing to do with that. That song was based entirely on seeing
rock stars like Perry Farrell or some top model doing these photo shoots
where they were the Christ figure with this stupid-ass crown of thorns and
their arms out. It became fashionable, and it started to get annoying that
people were starting to associate themselves with that, because they don't
even know what it is other than a symbol that a whole bunch of weak people
deify."

No, Bill, I don't think Soundgarden is a very religious band.

Oh, and my vote for the stand-in from the BIMH video is Ben (but then isn't
that always my answer - Ben). No, Matt's hair didn't look quite right, but
Ben didn't look quite right throughout the video.

hey, I think someone asked this question before but I don't remember the
answer.

A lot of Soundgraden's songs have religion and jesus and crap in 'em. I
was wondering what they think of teh church and all that. I'll take any
answer cause I'm not religous at all.

I know this post is a little late but the shows were Great! Especially the
second of the two. This was by the far the best Soundgarden concert, maybe
any concert I have ever seen. Unfortunately there is one thing that could
have made it better...If Rocket From the Crypt had played. I have been a
fan of their's for a while and I was very dissapointed when I discovered
they were not playing. The Presidents were pretty cool the first night
(Tues.), but the second night (Wed.) they just jumped around and played the
same songs again.

I had the greatest feeling Tuesday. Right after SG came on stage and were
roaring through Spoonman I looked to the left side and saw Kim playing away
and right then I realized how amazing it was that I was standing there
watching one of greatest bands of all time at what some might call the peak
of their career.

Like I said, Wednesday's show was unbelievable. Chris seemed like he was
holding back a little bit on Tues. but Wed. he went all out. Hearing
Nothing To Say was so great and Head Down blew off the roof, but the best
part was the (what seemed like) 20 minute Slaves and Bulldozers at the end.
It was so awesome I couldn't believe that they could possibly come back out
and perfom an encore.

It was really great meeting some of the sommsters I have been talking to for
so long. Too bad Soundgarden doesn't play more shows making it easier for
us to get together. In response to all the questions about the painter. He
started painting the stage and crowd during Pond and through the Presidents.
Then after Soundgarden came on, he really started rocking out and painting
all the details. It was hard to see too many details from where we were,
but it looked like the pictures were pretty similar both nights. His hands
moved across the canvas so fast it was amazing to watch. I'd like to find
out more about his work.

Well I gotta say that any doubt that I had that Soundgarden is my favorite
band is now totally gone. It was so great to seeing Artis dancing around in
the crowd during the show, it totally exemplified the entire mood of the
night. Happy Holidays to everyone.

yep, i have the opening thing on tape, but not the G N'R video
itself. to tell you the truth, i don't think they sound all that
great in it. it's outside, and that eats up SO much of their sound
and chris's voice just sounds off. but the shooting job is good, so i
like it somewhat.

jesus christ pose isn't about jesus, i'll tell you that much.
and chris was once quoted as saying <and this isn't exact, because i
don't remember the whole thing> "people who follow religion are like
fish... and i don't wanna be a fish."
i hope that answers yr question.

yes, very similar for me too. they are just so comfortable and so 'at home'
on stage... kim especially was just monumental. just made it seem effortless.

well, he called me today and let me know that one of the paintings was
available. unfortunately I heard the price wrong after the show on tuesday
(gee, i wonder why my ears were fucked up ;->) i thought he said one
thousand or two thousand -- the price is **eight** thousand. that much i
don't have, and if i did i'd buy a new CAR, not a painting of sg, no matter
how awesome. ;-) if there's any of you out there with this much disposable
income, let me know and i'll be happy to pass on his contact info.

happy solstice to all!
