Just wanted to let everyone know that the Web page is back in business
- -- I dumped about 80MB of files to another server (www.shocking.com).
Right now the only files there are the full-length audio clips from
the various Songs Of The Month (August and October alone are 80MB).

I spent a few hours today trying to empty my inbox, adding a whole
bunch of stuff to the site -- hopefully I'll get to do a bit more
before I leave for New York.

Subject: BUTOW single released..........again

Just as I was thinking the UK BUTOW single might never be released.....I was
proven wrong. I marched into HMV today, in a pretty good mood ('cos my
Christmas break starts tomorrow) and what did I see??
A whole stack of BUTOW singles :)) They had both part 1 (Moby remix) and
part 2 (live stuff and Splice), but unlike the Austr. version this one comes
in a box w/ a poster (like BIMH). Well, since I have no intention of buying
the Aust/part 2 single again, I only bought the one with the Moby
remix......but I'm wondering what's on the poster. I assume it's taken from
the video.......
The strange thing is, three days ago, I walked into a used cd-store, and I
saw the single w/ the Moby remix. Now why on earth would someone sell the
single....even before it hit any other record stores?? (unless it was stolen
of course). And they had the nerve to ask for 18$!.....for a *used* single
<shaking head> whereas I got mine new for 6.80$........so Deb, don't worry
about picking one up for me.....there are enough over here :)

Chris a glam basher? No way ...the man likes T.Rex!

And I have to agree with Monnica, I can't see that being in Details is
either glam or a sign of selling out. The day I see a copy of Hello (UK
gossip mag) with "Chris Cornell and Susan Silver invite you into their
beautiful West Seattle home" complete with pics of them frolicking on the
front lawn with the poms *then* I'll start to worry!!! (I'd still buy it

Heartfist was never officially released and it's not unusual for writers to
take unused lines or lyrics and fit them into another song. I also noticed
similarities between this song and Head Injury from UMOK.

Subject: Seattle show!

I have one word for tonight.....AMAZING!

Where do I start? Okay, I'll start from the begining. Most of us got in line
at about 4, so we were in the very front. <It was DAMN cold too> We chatted
and finally, a little after 6, the let us in. We got the best seats in the
house, we had a great view, and the sound is good there as well.

Members in attendance, that I saw at least: Andrea, Bonnie, Jen, Vikki,
Chris, Caryn, Nadia(+friend), Ryland, and my little bro Ryan. Not too shabby
of a group if I might say so.

Pond: Pond played a good set, and mixed up the songs real well. They changed
the order from the Vancouver show, which was nice. It's good to keep people
guessing. They also covered a Pantera song.

It was during this time that as I glanced over to my right, I see the one and
only Erin waving at me. We gave her a group wave after we noticed her. She
then walked up and gave us After Show passes! I said before there should be a
National Holiday in her honor. I meant it then, and I mean it now. She has
done SO much for our group that words can not express enough gratitude or
meaning. She is a gem, and I owe her thanks for some of the best times of my
life. THANK YOU ERIN!!!

Unfortunately, Rocket From The Crypt was unable to stay in town to play, so
taking there spot was......

The President's of the United State's of America! They were awesome, as
usual. It was quite funny when they came onstage, the lights were all out and
Chris shouted that they were Pearl Jam. They said they were Pearl Jam several
times through their set. And during "Kick Out The Jams", they sang about how
Soundgarden was gonna rock our asses and stuff. It was great. I give the
President's a hearty 2 thumbs up, especially the Dead Kennedy's cover.

Soundgarden was on fire! Especially Kim. Artis the Spoonman did the Spoons
during Spoonman <of course> and it was a treat I tell you. The show was
incredible. I was entranced through most of the show. Chris's vocals were
great. Matt's drumming was superb as usual. Ben was playing with vim and
vigor. And Kim was going off like an atom bomb. In fact, he was "da bomb". I
was left speechless. It was a truly great show. And, they did a bit of
"Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except For Me And My Monkey" during
SWMGEC. And the cool thing is that tomorrow we get to do it all over again!

Also, there was a person doing a painting during the show. I'm too tired now
to describe it<almost 4am>, so would someone who was there do so? Or I can
later. It was cool though.

Over and out, more ramblings later.

The List Thug, KTMS Founder, SOMMS Sheriff, and a few other things I can't
remember right now,

Aaron

One thing about merchandise sold at concerts is that all "big"
venues charge bands to sell their merchandise in the building,
which is why shirts are always more expensive at shows. It
varies with different buildings and promoters - I saw Johnny Cash
a couple of years ago in a small town north of San Francisco and
shirts were $10 less at that show than a couple of nights later
at his show in San Francisco...

Subject: Re: there's only so many roads you can go...

The term "sellout" is thrown around far too liberally these days
by music "journalists" (i.e. lonely, uncreative people looking
for attention). Also, it seems to be used by people who are not
really familiar with a band or their music. Just because a band
broadens their musical stylings doesn't mean they've "sold out".
Sellout to me is someone like The Who, who sold their songs for
use in beer commercials, and then further reduced themselves to
pandering to the public's perceived need to hear Tommy and
Quadrophenia done AGAIN and AGAIN. They became a jukebox rather
than a creative, artistic unit. Soundgarden's recent albums are
what finally made me such a big fan, because they're obviously
growing as artists and musicians and it's reflected in their
music. I saw and heard SG back in the early 90's, but it was
only with the recent albums that I finally "get" where they're
     coming from..

The Oakland show was far from perfect, but it wasn't horrible
     either.

The Peter Green-era Fleetwood Mac of the late 60s to early 70s
was a great band (this was before Stevie Nicks joined and turend
them into a pop band). FM played some heavy duty guitar rock
before selling out (there's that term again!). The Melvins
covered the 1972 Peter Green-written Fleetwood Mac song 'Green
Manalishi (w/ the Two Pronged Crown)' on their recent tour and
did it essentially like the original FM version, which is an
incredible song. Judas Priest also covered the same song...

Hehehe I was waiting for this! :-)

Well, I'm going to get myself in deeper here, Lance, and say Nowhere But You
(to me at least) is more emotional and honest and *real* lyrically than
Flutter Girl. Flutter Girl's lyrics kind of remind me of those 'baby, don't
fall for me, I'm no good for you' type of songs that JBJ and co could handle
very nicely!

Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike the song *that* much, it's just far from
the best that Chris can come up with, IMO. Maybe *if* it had made it past
the demo stage and onto Superunknown (and I wonder why not, eh?), it *could*
have evolved into something I would appreciate more.

If you like it, that's fine, but I'm a Mailman/Slaves and Bulldozers kind of
gal, myself,so....

And somebody else said they thought some people are more interested in how
SG looks than their music. Do you really think anybody on THIS list is more
interested in their looks than their MUSIC? Cmon. We deserve more credit than
that. I cant help being a heterosexual female!! To me, its a definite plus
that they are cute, but if they were fat cows the music is still excellent.

Remember Soundgarden hovered just on the edge of real big fame and success
for a long time. Nirvana exploded first while SG was still somewhat
obscure. SG really didnt hit it until SU. Then they finally got the fame
and recognitian they deserved and worked hard for. I think even if Kurt
hadnt died, all the Nirvana hype was winding down....SG hype seems to be
hanging on steadily since SU. Thanks in part I think to Susan and her
fantastic management/marketing skills......look at what SG does for their
fans....xmas post cards and now a SG phone/fan card?! I dont think Kurt
would have flipped a booger our way, much less sent us an xmas post card.

And Bush, well some of their songs are ok, but I dont own any of their CD's
or know their names or anything. I like Stone Temple Pilots too. I think
its unfair to accuse them of being solely a rip off band.

WOW! I'll have to admit that I was a little nervous about going to the show
after only one week of rest for Chris, but the whole show was great!!! Sorry
to say that I missed most of Pawn, but Rocket couldn't be there, so The
Presidents came in and did their stuff!! It was great to see them helping
out Soundgarden!!! Many of you fellow Sommsters had complained about Sg's
show's in the past, claiming that there was really no effort involved on the
band's part, but OH MY GOD I have never seen them play any better in all of
the 5 show's I have been to!!!! Chris hit all of his high range-It gave me
goosebumps! He was a screaming fool last night! I must say....It must have
felt good for them to be home! The only thing I wished they could have
played more of was songs from LTL. (only played HAO) I wish I could go to
the last show tonight!!! Chris had appologized for making us wait, and said
"Hopefully, I will make it up to you tonight" -was that an
understatement!!! They looked great, sounded great And I was glad to see my
boys all rested! I will say again: THIS WAS THE GREATEST SG SHOW I HAVE
EVER ATTENDED-YOU GUYS ROCK! Seattle thanks you for the mind blowing show!!!

I do get those"who are they" too, but usually I just say, "ever hear of Black

or "yea, they suck"or "ya, the lead singer is really cute, but the band
sucks". Hurts my heart to hear that. I guess it's just because I look into
their music deeper than looks.

well, saying the song isn't my favorite was just an opinion, and I won't
condemn those who love it..... personally I will never like that song as
much as I like some of their other stuff.

>and on a side note, ya know, i had never even *heard* the name g___ or g___

The only reason I mentioned them and the lead-singer of the
group-with-the-same-name-as-a-former-presidents-surname in particular, was
'cos I could imagine him covering that song. I'm not bashing him or
anything....... there are other groups who I'm sure could cover that song,
but if I start mentioning them, I'll get into even more trouble :)...but I'd
like to add that the "ooohhh" part in the middle reminds me of U2.

>very nicely!

When I first heard the song Flutter Girl, I got a mental image of JBJ
sitting there with his acoustic guitar somewhere in the desert howling the
song......so shoot me, it's not my fault what my brain comes up with. Don't
know why, but like Deb, the lyrics are the kind JBJ would like. But as I
said before, eveyone has a different opinion and a way of looking at a
song/lyrics differently, so if you like it, good for you.
I don't exactly *hate* the song....I don't hate any SG-songs......although
"Fresh Deadly Roses" is getting there.

Now on to a different topic:
blind dog asked about the Oakland/LA shows, and up 'til now all the reviews
I've read actually commended SG on their performance. I think I posted one
review on the list, there's another one on Seth's page now, and I'm going to
type one up from KERRANG! (which gave SG 5/5 for their show) really soon.

Another thing: I finally heard the full-length Moby remix, and
it's.....umm..ok, I guess. They never play the chorus though, and Chris hums
quite a lot. Actually the humming part has been in my head all day......

Orange you glad you ask? We just have affectionate nicknames for each
other. Like Thug, Hootchie, Medium Joe, bitch(oops didn't mean to say

OK people, get the word out:

Our Unofficial Soundgarden Homepage has been nominated as one of the
Best Of 96 on Yahoo and MTV's new joint project, unfURLed. If it gets
enough votes, well, I don't know what happens, but I'm sure it'll be
cool. :)

All you have to do is decide whether or not the site is better than
unofficial sites for Oasis, Beck, Madonna, Phish, and Hole, and then
cast your vote. There are other categories for official sites,
graphics, etc.

If you can, please vote.

From the KOTS update included with the Christmas postcard, calling card,
and merchandise catalogue: "The cinematic Burden in My Hand video required
three long, hot days of shooting in Death Valley, (Which band member used
a 'stand in' beneath the jet's shadow?)...

Hmm, I never heard about this. Anybody? My guess is Matt.

Also of interest: "...This can be observed in the linking together of
earlier and later song titles. For example, Get on the Snake and Ty Cobb
complement each other, bringing out a hidden message. It's rumored both
songs have something to do with the provocative Kevin's Mom, who we all
hope to meet someday." OK, the Kevin's Mom rumor is just KOTS humor and
I can pretty well figure out the, ehem, metaphor of Get on the Snake but
I don't see the hidden message/Ty Cobb connection.

I think someone mentioned this but I haven't seen the pictures yet:
"Another example of the band going over the top are Frank W. Ockenfels 3
photos of Chris and Kim next to the likes of Little Richard and Chuck
Berry in Rolling Stone's 'Images of Rock and Roll.'

And lastly, "Never ones to miss a Mariners game, at New York's Yankee
Stadium this Summer, SG band members looked up to see WELCOME SOUNDGARDEN
flash across the electronic scoreboard."

When Gavin said that soundgarden was horrible, it became personal. I like
their music actually, so I read the article. And then he says something
stupid like that? He could have said that he doesn;e understand
soundgarden, or he doesn't like them...but to say they are horrible? That
is personal because since soundgarden is my favorite band, i guess
according to Gavin, my taste sucks. He also says smashing pumpkins sucks
too( though i dont like them). Its funny how bands that he modelled his
whole career after suck to him.
