Sure!!! Havn't you ever seen him when his face is pointed down towards the
ground and his eyes are looking straight up at you?

Can't disagree there. And, as it is with both bands, I'm sure that there
are a few people calling themselves die-hard fans that have never heard of
the Fopp EP.

But... I'm willing to take a risk and say that Soundgarden... NOT Pearl
Jam... are going to be compared to Led Zepplin in twenty years. Or maybe
Soundgarden will be the next Led Zepplin...

I'd say this because Zepplin liked to go back in time when creating songs.
Think of all the old elements they put into the songs. For a while, the
acoustic guitar had been though dead until people heard Page tearing out
riffs with his 12-string.

Same goes for Soundgarden. Come on... I mean... a mellotron? Clarinets?
Mandolin? Mandola? Who (other than the Screaming Trees) use these on a
regular basis?

Ehh? Not as innovative? I don't know what you're getting at there. Put Deep
Six back in your CD-player and just put "Heretic" on repeat. A guitar, with
a strange effect on it, is playing a deep note that's better suited for a
bass. And then, it switches over to a wailing guitar chorus.

And never mind the time signatures... 3/4 in rock was pretty much unheard
of. As the years went on, the band kept on creating new things and figuring
out new ways to do stuff. Soundgarden is one of the only bands that
de-tunes their guitars as drastically as they do. Plus, they're one of the
only bands with a guitarist that plays with as chaotic a style as Kim has.

There's a lot of innovativeness there.

Subject: disappointments....

i just wanted to comment on the thing someone said about soundgarden's next
album possibly being a disappointment. i don't think that will happen. my
reason behind this is, i thought that superunknown was an extremely good
album and i thought 'how will soundgarden ever impress the world again
after that one'. but they proved me wrong cuz dotu was great too (great in
a different way than all their previous albums, but great none the less).
i think they have it in them to keep making exceptional albums, even if
they surprise us with a different "sound" each time.
there you go with my opinion. comments are welcome :)

Actually, the silence thing has been done, both by John Lennon and by
Soundgarden. I'm not sure if "One Minute of Silece" or it's tribute by
Soundgarden were ever preformed live, but they are both listed on
recording credits.

Those of you that are music majors know that the *silence* thing was
done originally by John Cage...in his monumental epic piece, "4:33". I
believe that work was performed live, in its entirety, at some world
reknown concert hall (Carnige?) sometime in the early 60's?. Mr. Cage
is also the composer of the most bizarre piece of music ever
recorded..."Cartridge Music" - a real party fave.

Of all the recorded versions...I *much* prefer Soundgarden's. Its tones
are more lifelike in an inner city criminal type of way.

Just kidding. I was actually just curious to see if Local 121 is open
yet, and if so... has anyone has checked it out? I can be such a slacker
sometimes, damn me. (For the newbies... Local 121 is the jazz club that Ben
and Matt are opening.)
Also, whatever happened to idea of putting together a page for all of
our "You know you're obsessed with Soundgarden when...." quotes, and the SG
haikus? Did anyone keep track of that, praytell? Ummm... if no one already
has dibs on it... would y'all mind if I went through the digests and pulled
some of 'em up for a page? I'll make sure that everyone gets credited with
their quotes and poetry. Let me know, 'kay?
Oh yeah, I just finished updating the SiCa page, and I changed Matt's
wish list on the X-mas page. ;-) I haven't changed the CC pic of the day
yet, 'cuz I'm lazy. I'm thinking of only changing it one time for the
weekend for now on. So look for a new CC pic tomorrow evening. =) This web
stuff rules.

I thought this was cute and wanted to share it with all of you Sommsters.

My 11-year-old cousin, who is well aware of my SG obsession, told me the
other day she had seen a video by them that she thought was really "neat".
I asked her if she remembered which one, and she said, "Umm, I think it
was like Blow up your mind, and some guy was chained to a chair."

Well, it made ME smile!

I'm sending this out again as a reminder...

If you are going to unsubscribe for the holidays, EMAIL ME DIRECTLY on
the day before you wish to be unsubbed and let me know. Please do not
email me and say something like "Can you unsub me on Dec 27 and resub
me on Jan 18?" because I'll just unsub you as soon as I get your
message. When you come back from wherever you spend the holidays and
wish to resub, it would be best if you used to form on the Web page --
otherwise you can just email me directly and let me know.

Also, for those people who receive the daily (somewhat daily) digest,
I probably will be sending it out every other day while I'm on
vacation in New York (December 20 to approximately Jan 1).
