From: JASNL@aol.com
Subject: Oakland Show -- I'm sterile now.

I got the most crushed I ever have been, but luckily it got better after "My
Wave" (the fifth song). But in the meantime, my body got squeezed so hard
that I think my ovaries popped. Oh well. I also almost got my shoulder
dislocated my some guy who fell RIGHT on it. My husband, not a frail guy at
all (6'4", strong dude), got sucked into the pit vortex and was down on the
ground for a little while.

But enough of that. I'd like to start with a review of the sound, because it
has a huge impact on the experience, needless to say. While the drums were
being sound checked, the woman in front of me (her hair smelled really good,
and I smelled it a lot since we were all smushed together) said "Fuuuck,
that's loud." The kick drum was so loud that the air from the speakers made
my jeans flap, if that makes sense. But unfortunately, the guitars weren't
very loud. The solos didn't cut through. So, actually is that the venue's
fault, or sound people's fault?

Anyway, Chris' voice...poor guy, he had a real hard time hitting those highs!
It's been a long tour, I guess. It was hard for me to concentrate on the
first few songs, since it was crushville (I was in the second row), but after
a while I got a chance to really watch, especially Kim, who didn't make eye
contact with me this time like he usually does. He doesn't love me anymore.
Kim was REALLY ON TONIGHT!! Very expressive, moved around a lot, he and Chris
had "guitar sex" (smashing each other's strings together)...There was a great
moment where Kim was blowing on his strings to get sound out of the guitar,
and Chris saw him, did the same thing, smiling...it was weird. (Guitar blow
job.) I also loved the end of the show where Kim kept his guitar feedback
going for I'd say at least 5 full minutes, plucking the strings now and
again as it lay on top of his speaker, dancing to the feedback,...it was a
damn beautiful thing. I'm not certain everyone else "got it".

Chris kept his damn shirt on the whole time, just like every other time I've
seen them. He doesn't love me anymore, either. Gray long sleeved shirt with a
collar and a V neck. The three guitarists all had black jeans on. Ben and Kim
had black T shirts on. Matt had shorts on but I could barely see him. He only
made one mistake, a KILLER roll which he came out of just a little late. Oh
well. He still kicked, and the band compensated for it very well. Chris was
somewhat interactive with the crowd, but not very verbal. Walked around a
lot. Towards the beginning of the show, he yelled, pointing to someone in the
crowd, "YOU! Yes, YOU! You're on hallucinogenic drugs. I can tell, because
you have lizard skin." He also told us: "We're not A & R people, so don't
throw us tapes." (I almost brought one of mine. Glad I didn't.)

Chris did not play guitar on more than a couple songs this time, which
surprised me. I can't remember which -- does anyone else?? Anthony? (Sorry I
missed you, buddy.) Chris also played BHS solo, as you know, and before that
song, told the people in the pit that he was going to play some "lounge
music" and that they had to work out their issues amongst themselves. I wish
they would go somewhere else to work out their issues, rather than crushing
us all and ruining our fun. The next time I'm THAT close to THAT many people,
they'd better be naked.

Chris did not look skinny to me. I think he's carrying himself with more of a
slouch and hunched shoulders than usual...maybe that contributes to him
looking thin?

Ben was in a bad mood, not in a good way. Did not stalk, did not make obscene
gestures at me, did not spit, that I saw. He doesn't hate me anymore. Left
the stage early during the last song before the encore.

They played "Hands All Over"!!! I love that one. Nice to hear the oldies once
in a while! Thanks guys!! I've never seen them be more entertaining!

Sorry, long post. Good night.

Holy shit, was it loud. I admit to a lack of concert
experience, I've been to less than a dozen in my 34 years,
but this one was very loud. The bass and drums were out in
front, guitars and vocals were just a little behind.
I moved around the hall, staying far away from the crush
of people at the front. There were bleacher seats high up
that were in the same lateral plane as the stage, and from there
(on Ben's side) I had an excellent view of the stage.
I also had a pair of binoculars, so I could zoom in on
individual band members.
Early on, Ben smacked at what I think was a video camera.
Whatever it was, an "event staff member" went over and
rescued it as it was dangling by its cords. He knocked
over and kicked at his microphone and stand right after Spoonman.
He also spat a couple times, but I also saw him working
one up that he decided to hold in, for some reason.
He toppled a small speaker, after looking at it as though it personally
offended him.:) He only really jumped around a few times. But he
made faces at the audience and stalked around looking pissed off
a lot.
I was fascinated by Matt. He has 4 limbs that move independently
of one another. It was awesome to watch him play.
Chris introduced Rhinosaur by saying something like "This next
song is from our last record. Listen to it, it's a great song.
It was written by Matt, it's called Rhinosaur."

All in all, it was a tremendous experience. Now if my ears
would just stop ringing...

Good story, not an epic voyage into the realms of Soundgarden's
collective cranium, but A good day nonetheless.

No longer Will I make fun (too much) of rare cd selection in Iowa.I was
in this commercial used cd store on fri and was looking for any SG
content. I called up SG and the computer and it said BMF 2 cd set. I shit.
Really, I ran to the counter yelling for no one to erase that screen. I took
this walking steroid who was working there over and he found it. He pulled it
out and I said "that's really hard to find." The guy picked up another BMF
cd and looked at me like I was an idiot. As you can see i was dealing with a
superbrain. He took me over and I asked to listen to the 2nd cd. He looked at
me like I was an idiot. I told him to open it.
"what? Uh.... I didn't know they had a double cd.. huh"
        Thank you Willard Scott.
Ok, then i was listening to it and this other walking hardon came over
and I asked him to take out the BMF cd from the player. He opened the case and
saw disk one and was like, "It's already in here." DUH!! I told him to flip
it over, Einstein was clearly stumped.
me- you ever seen one of those before?
        Jean Claude Van Damme- Uh...well....Yeah...
                ok sure buddy
Anyway, I enjoyed my time in the steroid hotel and came out with
BMF/SOMMS for 16 bucks. It was good day./ No matter what happened after that.

Feeling as though boredom pretty well kicks finals week in the ass.
And going for test numbers 3,4,5 in the not so distant future.

Did anyone who was at the DC show happen to notice the end of My
Wave? Ben started jamming what sounded like Misty Mountain Hop by
Led Zeppelin, and after a bit, the guys caught on and they fooled
around with it for a while, and then ended the song. Ben once said
that he listened to Zeppelin, and KISS fans would beat him up because
Zep was "older brother music."

bands that I like, and what I listen to depends on my mood, etc., but when

through between now and then is about 12 hours of long studying, one 3 hour
final tomorrow morning, a ferry trip, then the drive to the PNE on the

Anyhow, my question for you all is his: is there anything special I should
consider taking to a Soundgarden concert?

Second, enough with the Rossdale comment/homophobia thing..yes, i

not think you were slamming me but slamming BdMtr for his use of that

does anybody else think that the "dusty" main riff sounds just like the main
riff in "plume" by the smashing pumpkins (pisces iscariot)?? its beggining
to seem like dusty is turning out to be quite a derivative (sp?) song.
i know this is somewhat off topic, so all you pumpkin people who want to

...when i do something dumb on the website. one page for tour dates
and another page for fan reviews? kind of stupid. it's been fixed. now
there's one page that includes both. sorry about that.

for those of you who have submitted reviews on the site, thanks --
they're great. i wish they hadn't canceled the massachusetts show.

off to see supercop again,

hey SOMMSters,

i couldn't believe it! i was checking each piece of used BMF cd on this used
record store hoping for a miracle that i would find a copy of SOMMS. and
what do you know, i found a copy! it was a miracle from heaven. i
immediately asked a salesman to open the plastic thingie so i could examine
the contents. once i saw that it really contained two discs, i was about to
jump for joy but i managed to pull a self-control maneuver.

now the long wait is over (i didn't buy a BMF cd for i was hoping to get
BMF/SOMMS someday).

To the person getting the statistics on the number of people who own SOMMS:
add me to the list.

And to all the people who don't yet own SOMMS:
Happy Hunting!

I just had the time of my life...Went to see Failure in a dive with only 40
other people, and just got home from spending 2 hours partying with the band
(yes, this will be SG related!)...

ANYWAY, I was wearing my SOMMS hat tonight (Dena, you rule!)...the guys
asked what the hat meant, and I explained that I am a massive Soundgarden
fan and that the hat is for the SG mailing list...So Kelli, the drummer
(*drool*) says to me, "Oh you are part of that webpage list that was on ATN
about hanging out with the band?" I was pretty stunned....Turns out that
Kelli is a major SG fan (actually he idolizes Mr. Cameron ;-) and he is also
into the Net and reads ATN...and he read about us on there! He remembered
it well cuz he thought it was a cool story...And he knew what SOMMS stands
for *sigh*.....so gang, we are "famous kinda" to quote seth..it was just a
really cool experience...and Failure is unbelievable...

*wow*

I like Matt's single bass drum theory: a well-placed bomb is much more
effective than machine gun fire (two kick drums). Besides, when you've
got a right foot as fast as Matt's, who needs two bass drums?

Have any of the American SOMMSters been able to get either of the BUTOW
singles?
I've special ordered it from two different places (that are usually really
great resources) and they are having a bitch of a time getting either of them
imported?

Has anyone else had better luck?

OR EVEN BETTER

Is there any UK or Austrailian SOMMSters who would pick me up a copy? I'd pay
of course.

i know this isn't soundgarden related... but i must share.

well, i eventually made eye contact with all 4 members. I even got a
smile from Adam Jones and got to meet danney carey for about 30 seconds.

my ribs are still a little sore, but it was worth it. Each night was a
totally different experience. They are one of the best live acts around
today.

ok, i'm done.... for now
