In the December 1996 issue of huH magazine, Jani Lane (the lead singer
of buttrock/hairmetal kings Warrant) is quoted as saying the following
about the fading out of his kind of music and the rise of "alternative"
music:

"...I think alternative injected a little energy into everybody,
taught everyone camaraderie, taught them to write lyrics beyond 'get
drunk, get laid.' Hey, Alice In Chains got signed opeing for us, you

On behalf of Dena (GeekGirl) I am posting the following worldwide release

Though the San Diego fires have since been extinguished, the damage -

that she will be unable to use her phone (that includes connecting to her
email) until the phone repair folks get to her this coming Friday, Nov. 29th

to know that she looks forward to seeing everyone at our pre-game get

Hey Gang!

Volume Two of "From the Mouth of Decadence" (formerly know as the "Collection
O' B-sides) is Finally done!

The play list is as follows:

Side One: Birth Ritual, Unholy War, Bleed Together, Heretic, She's a
Politician, Heartfist, Stolen Prayer, Toy Box, Jerry Garcia's Finger.

Side Two: FOBD(Video Version), Stray Cat Blues, Show Me, Girl U Want, Angel
on Fire, She Likes Surprises, Fresh Deadly Roses, Missing, Come Together,
Rusty Cage(Johnny Cash version)

Like I said, my intention is not to make $$$$ on this. I just love you guys
and thought it would be a cool project. So if you are interested please send
:

$6 US (Two Dollars per tape *FUJI brand*, & $2 for postage, envelopes etc)

to:

Lance Huber
1196 Waterside Cove #33 (be sure to put #33 or I may not get it)
Midvale, UT 84047

or call me at (801) 568-9179

Please E-mail me if you are going to send this order both or one or whatever
so I know how many copies to make. And please be a little patient (I can only
dub one at a time so it takes a while).

Also be aware that some of the sound qualities, especially on the "Stolen
Prayer" stuff is less than stellar. (They are true unmixed studio Demos). I
rode the levels as well as I could but because of they're nature they are
kind of tinny sounding.

There will be a Volume 3. However it will be considerably shorter and
probably won't get put together for a couple of months.

Hope I got this done in time for you guys and I look forward to hearing from
you all!

From: tracyjacks@juno.com (Miguel Garcia)

Okay, this is my first post to this list. I found out about this list
from Tom Lufkin on the AiC list (thank you Major Tom - David Bowie
humor). Anyways, I was wondering if someone posted that article excerpt
here that had to do with one of the Oasis brothers (I don't know which
one I hate them both) bashing Soundgarden? It was on the AiC one but I'm
not too sure about here. If it wasn't, I'll find out who mailed it, get
it and post it.

Thanksgiving day is Matt Cameron's birthday and I wonder if his family
will remember. It'll be pretty screwed up if they don't. Hope it won't
affect his drum playing (j/k)!

Dec. 1st I'll be seeing them (again) at the Universal. Can't wait until
then.

Oh well, I got tired of the November pictures of the KROQ calendar so I
turned the page. Those of you who have this know whose 8 faces I'll be
waking up to for the next 5 and a half weeks.

Cool, another LA SOMMSter. Hey, I was listening to Jed the Fish's Sunday
morning show and he made this joke:

"Matt Cameron's birthday is coming up this Thursday. What will he be
getting for his birthday? Turkey Drumsticks!!"

You know how corny that guy is, Miguel. Richard Blade is a cool DJ too,
but I wish he would play some old Soundgarden during "Flashback Sundays".
Hey, I met him at South Coast Plaza this weekend!! Were you there?

The november pictures of KROQ were not all that great. They should have
Soundgarden pics next year. I wonder why there weren't any on the calendar
this year.

As far as the Oasis brothers bashing SG, I never heard that rumor before.
I can't stand Oasis anyway. Their bashing SG makes me dislike them even
more.

Lastly, this note is especially for seth. You may be a busy man and all,
but where is Matt's birthday card??

I recently purchased a new Gibson SG for the tag price of $900- it was
acutally slightly less when you figure in the stuff they gave me for
free (hard case, stand, extra strings, blah blah blah). The Guilds are
nice, and it would be nice to have the same model guitar as Kim Thayil,
but I really like Gibsons.

By the way, is anyone else out there going to the Dec. 4 th show in

From: Ross Filipek <rfilipek@indiana.edu>
Subject: Nashville Show Review. . .

I'm so tired. I didn't get back from Nashville until 5:15 this morning.
I've already slept straight through two of my classes. But the show was
awesome (priorities, right?). Anyways, here's the story.

THE CROWD:
I've never seen so many redneck posers under one roof in my entire life.
This was a guaranteed recipe for a moshing *disaster*, and indeed it
was. I held my ground in front of Ben for the first half of the show, but
I eventually got pushed out. But that was OK because I could still hear
just fine from farther back.

POND:
I didn't arrive at the building until halfway through their set (I
grossly underestimated the length of time it takes to drive to
Nashville). But I liked what I saw. Their drummer rocks. They kind of
reminded me of Green Day, except that they didn't suck. They played with
lots of energy, but the crowd really didn't respond. Wonder why.

ROCKET FROM THE CRYPT:
They really don't play the kind of music I like, but they're a great band
nonetheless. The lead singer is pretty funny ("Are you ready to ROCK AND
ROLL?" and "Everyone get out your dancin' shoes!"). Their drummer was
amazing, too. I liked their shirts.

SOUNDGARDEN:
I couldn't remember the set list if I tried. But I know they opened with
"Spoonman" and also played "Hands All Over" later in the show. The encore
songs were "Dusty" and "Jesus Christ Pose." Chris definitely seemed like
he was holding back at the beginning of the show. But he eventually
pulled out all the stops and gave a great and powerful performance. Ben
was hilarious. He had a huge smile on his face for much of the evening. I
didn't see him spit at *anyone*. He made a lot of silly faces and goofy
gestures with his hands. During "Hands All Over" when Chris sang "gonna'
kill your mother," Ben put his hand on his chest (like he'd been
shot) and sort of sunk to the ground. I thought that was pretty funny.

GENERAL MISBEHAVIOR:
During "My Wave" some dickhead in the crowd threw a sweatshirt at Chris
and hit him in the face, forcing Chris to stop playing.

MEMORABLE QUOTES:
"Are you having fun with your little glow in the dark thingies?" (said
*very* mockingly) --Chris

"Hey! Don't pay for that shit, man! Steal it! Steal it! Fuck that shit!"
(I have no idea what he was talking about) --Ben

"If you want to give me your sweatshirt, come on stage and *hand* it to
me. I'll take it if I don't knock your fucking head off first!" (after
being hit with the sweatshirt) --Chris

AFTER THE SHOW:
Kim stays out on the stage and raises a toast to the crowd with a can of
Lite beer.

Well, this is all I can remember for now. But if I think of anything else
important, I'll let you know.

The list now has more than 700 subscribers! Thanks, everyone.

For those who were wondering, there will be a birthday "celebration"
on the Web page for Matt. I hope to have it finished by tonight (read:
if it doesn't get done tonight, it may not get done in time).

December's Song Of The Month may be late (again). I have this problem
budgeting my time: I spend too much of it on school and not enough on
the Web page. I'm heading to New York on Wednesday night, and won't be
back until Sunday, so I'm not sure yet if the SOTM will debut on Dec 1
or if it will have to wait until Dec 2. Hell, I haven't even chosen
the song yet. :)

Well, sorry about pulling a nothingman w/ posts (no, i'm not taking

clase de espaniol today.
My teacher said that she went to stone Temple Pilots at the Dean Dome
Saturday, and so i said to her :
"Mi concierto fue mejor que tuyo."
(My concert was better than yours.)
Then she asked who it was, and i told her it was Soundgarden, and she
said:
"Me gusta Chris Cornell. Es muy guapo."
(I like Chris Cornell, he's very good looking.)
And then my friend from high school, who i am fortunate enough to take
spanish with, said "El tiene ojos bonitos"
(He has pretty eyes)
And so i was happy that they didn't say oh, that black hole sun band, but
i am depressed that they recognized Chris for his looks and not for his
voice. Just had to share. Adios. -j

Subject: late Philly review

sorry guys, but i've been sicker than sick is possible... but here it
is anyways!

okay, first i leave with my friend megan to get to my dad's work so
he can drive us and my brother there. it's about 4:30-5. but we get
to the Electric factory at around 5:30 and fly out of the car and get
in line. i couldn't believe it, but we were only like the 5th and 6th
people in line! it was great! exactly how i had planned! so we wait
outside fo an hour and a half in FREEZING cold weather (i have a
vicious cough and flu to prove it) while i'm trying to decide how to
stick my camera down my pants without the onlooking bouncers seeing
me. i also have this weird thing i made, kinda of a sign, to get on
stage somehow. it ended up on stage, but after everyone but kim had
gotten off, so i don't think anyone ever picked it up. it said "erin,
susan & Soundgarden- thanks for everything. love ya guys- SOMMS@mit.
edu." i hope they got it.
so we get in, my camera makes it through the really easy inspection
and i look ahead and see tons of empty space and a makeshift wooden
barrier. then i remember "shirts!" so we snag one each of the long
sleeved ones. i'm kicking myself now for getting that and missing the
JCP shirt. :( oh well, i have one at least. now, as i'm shoving money
back into my wallet and tying the shirt around my waist, me and megan
are bolting for the barrier and get front row spots...center stage.
it was great. it was like my dream come true.
okay, long wait, maybe over and hour, then i start to see movement
backstage and hear people to the left of us screaming "matt! matt!"
but i can't see him. then i see somebody else walking up. my god it's
ben! he's so adorable! i can't believe how good looking he is in
person. i eventually see matt stick his head out around a speaker and
get this huge grin. i'm really at SG and that's really matt and ben.
it was great. then tenderloin comes on and ben and matt and someone
else, the lead guitarist for tenderloin i think, go up to the
microphone. ben is staring right at me while he's saying "ladies and
gentlemen welcome our friends...this is their last night touring with
us..." and then matt and the other guy say "tenderloin!" at the same
time. was cute. ben moves to my right and behind a speaker, but i can
still see him so i watch him. matt has vanished. ben was signing some
stuff to the balcony crowd above and threw a wadded up piece of paper
into the crowd. i even caught him doing some ridiculous funky da
ce. was funny. the TL singer is thie huge man who flicks quarters out
of his flabby stomach into the crowd. blech, he was pretty gross, but
funny as hell. about 3/4 through TL's set, ben and matt come on stage
to join them for a song. both take off their shirts (mmm...) and ben
does this funny as shit impersonation of the lead singer flicking
quarters out and the lead guitarist almost loses it. i can't see the
drummers for shit, i've got a huge speaker in my way. but i know it's
matt cause i saw him sit down. that was it for them after that song
and they vanished backstage again. ben wiped his face with a big
white towel and went to toss it offstage and it landed on the edge.
after it lands, i try to get the bouncer closest to me to go get it.
he won't though. even after how badly me and megan had kissed his ass
so he wouldn't steal my camera in the encore. :( but i got the
bassist's pick, so it was okay, i guess.
rocket from the crypt...ugh. they were this awful ska band with some
dancing guy who looked too much like mc jagger. the guy couldn't stay
still, he really needed to relax. the worst was they came out all in
the same outfit, like one big joke. ugh, they were really boring. i
couldn't wait for them to get off. but someone in the crowd liked
them. the same damn crowdsurfer came over my head each song. then,
finally, they get off. after people were throwing beer cups at them,
which was seriously rude.
okay, then the excitement starts and so does the pushing. idiots in
the crowd are moshing with no music playing. the bouncers are
freaking and standing in my way and i know SG is coming on soon. they
bring out matt's drum kit, then the guitars, then the bass. it was
insane, i was on edge. people are really starting to push and megan
loses her spot on the wall. i'm too dedicated to this band to leave
to help her though, even though i knew i should have. later on, they
raised her up and out after she almost passed out due to heat and
lack of oxygen.
i see susan silver talking to a group of people on the side of the
stage, back behind some speakers. i wish i could have taken out my
camera and snapped a shot, but i wanted it for later. she's looking
good. really nice, long hair. then all of a sudden i see this flash
of black. it's kim! it's kim! i'm going nuts, so is the rest of the
crowd who obviously saw him too. kim comes on stage followed by ben
and matt goes right to his spot behind the drums. chris was kind of
behind kim and ben and wow... is he ever a beautiful human. but so
tiny! i couldn't believe how skinny he was! not that he looked sick
at all, just so different than most of the photos i have of him.
chris comes to the front and the first thing you notice is his hair.
it's huge, and very distinguishing. and how pale he is, and his big
blue eyes. he has on a tight gray shit and black jeans. ben has on a
tight blue? or gray? shirt too and black jeans. kim has on a
Corrosion of conformity shirt and just regular jeans. never did see
what matt
as wearing. not Bball shorts though. :)
chris goes right to the mic and starts talking about how "sorry we
missed you guys on lollapolooza, but that was metallica's fault"
(crowd goes nuts) "but we came here on our own and had fun anyway..."
then right into Spoonman and the crowd went *insane*! i couldn't
believe it! i was crushed against that little board wall by at least
1500 people and it was crazy! crowdsurfers everywhere, bouncers going
crazy trying to keep track of them, me trying to breathe. the girl
next to me has already been pulled out by a bouncer by the time SG
launches into an amazing version of Let Me Drown. wow, it was beyond
what i had expected. people are exiting left and right, and i think i
got kicked in the head here... i can't remember now. crowd surfers
are coming faster than you can put yr arms in the air to block their
dr martins. one guy is the spitting image of the 1992 BMF chris and
even has the BMF wheel tatooed on the small of his back. very sexy.
after Let Me Drown, they play pretty noose (he hit those notes no
problem!) and BIMH. during BIHM, they played the video out of order
on a big screen behind them. this is the first i notice of a
background thing going on. chris sounds great, kim's fingers are
lightning and ben is making serious eye contact with me. i can now
sort of see matt, but only when chris speads his legs to play guitar.
during spoonman, when ben sang his first four or five lines, he made
one of those duck faces with his hand and it sang along with him. was
funny. made eye contact then too.
after BIMH, chris goes to the mic and dedicates the next song to lou?
and someone and says "this is only cause they wanted to hear this,
so this really is just for them...cause they wanted to hear it..."
and mumbles a bit more and then the start playing. oh my god! it's
hands all over! wow! i freaked out so bad, i was so excited. i was so
happy they were playing this. when chris starts singing, he holds his
hand up in the air and a few of us front row survivors reach out to
him, even though the stage is 8+ feet in the air and at least 8 feet
away. it was an intense moment for me. after that, things start to
get blurry. possibly FoBD is played, i can't be sure. but i do
remember chris yelling at us to shut up cause the drummer from TL
comes out and brings them all these orange drinks in clear plastic
cups. chris says "these are (something) friday's now... but about
midnight tonight these'll be called frrr... fruffff..." and starts
slurring the words really hysterically. really funny.
they go into helter skelter at one point and it is *gorgeous*.
chris is quiet and subdued and it's just wonderful. then they slowly
slide into boot camp and it was almost enought to make me weep. god,
it was such a perfect moment. "i must be tame and cool..."
unbelievable. the rest of the show is a HUGE blur. plenty of photo
ops, chris running over to kim and bobbing his head back and forth
until kim cracked up. ben doing his high stepping. ben didn't spit
once either, which was nice of him. :) and right before outshined,
chris took off his shirt. wow, he really is thin. but not bad thin,
he's still in good shape. i liked it. :)
basically, the set list was: spoonman, let me drown, pretty noose,
BIMH, hands all over, FoBD, rusty cage (neat intro, i realized what
song it was before the people areound me did), outshined, helter
skelter/boot camp, search & destroy (i'm not positive, because i've
never heard this song before), BUTOW, kickstand, dusty, ty cobb....
ty cobb was fun. chris was running around a little, flipping off the
crowd and getting us to do it back. and the tenderloin drummer sat in
for this one.... my wave, slaves & bulldozers, NTMF (encore),
JCP(encore), and this incredible chris solo version of BHS. wow, i
would really kill for a copy of that. really beautiful.
they left after playing slaves & bulldozers, i'm pretty sure, but
came back out soon and started with NTMF. i was disappointed by this,
because i was really looking forward to the possibility of hearing
Mailman live, as that's one of my fav SG songs, but it sounded
alright live i guess. i had whipped out my camera and was now bouncer
dodging for shots. the one guy put his hand on it and told me to put
it away, so i sort of did. but i realized that everytime they went to
grab a crowd surfer, there was no way they could watch me too, so
that was when i snapped shots. after NTMF, they kicked into this
ripping version of JCP, but it seemed a bit short. matt intro'd it
great, really good drum solo, but the song was just short. i'm
snapping shots left and right and hanging on for my life, hoping to
get something good out of the film. bouncer sees me with the camera
again and threatens me so i pretended to put it away again but took 2
more after that. :)
as it turns out, my dad and brother saw kim down by the soundboard
(which is in the middle of the floor???) but didn't know who it was
so didn't bug him.
i got my photos back and they're nothing excitable, just one half
decent on of chris and one half black one of chris and a good shot of
the sign outside.
SOMMSters! sorry i never found any of you guys! i bolted for that
front row spot and never moved from it until the concert was long
over. i looked for you guys, michele and aaron, never did see anyone
to fit yr descriptions though. sorry!
i got CRUSHED! front row is a good view, but extremely painful the
next couple of days. i won't do it for any band besides SG. i have
brusies on my elbows and knees and had a knot on my head from getting
kicked and i thought i had a broken rib or two. really bad.
as for contact with them, i made tons of eye contact and
expressions with ben, kimmy smiled at me once, and when chris flung
water out into the crowd i caught his eye. so i was happy.
all in all, it was a great experience and i can't wait to do it
again!

love ya! mind riot

Hola mis amigos, Como Estas?

Well, I know it's been a while, and I just have to say one thing. One fan
who bashes the others, are no longer a fan.(Mr. Apple)

I'm sooo pissed I can't see the STP show tonight...parents.....don't they
suck?

There is more soundgarden content in here some place. OK, well, there is one
question that I have for you that is half- soundgarden related. I heard
Hater is supposed to have a new Album(not vinal now people) out in early '97.
I was wondering if it was true, or is my mind wondering again.

Now, more Soundgarden questions answered. I wouldn't give it a second
thought if Chris turned gay, or if the whole band turned gay. You might
loose some love-struck girls, but hell, at least the real (over 700) fans
will be left. I am one of the yet shameful (sure, whatever) bunch of gals
that loved Chris' looks at the same time as the music, but at least I heard
the music first, and have sinced been indulged by it.

Another question for y'all. How do you guys see SG's future? 'scuse me it
was asked before, but I was, of course, curious, how the most devoted fans
thought about it. Just look at the music changes that have been going on.
who knows what new wave of music might over take this country, or anywhere
else in the world. Just a question to ponder.

Subject: Let yourself go, let it run through your veins.

Hey Guys,
Sorry I've delayed this long in getting out my Nashville Soundgarden review.
What can I say...Starting off: me and 2 friends get there a little early I
bought the SG "Caricature"shirt and we are looking for our seats, right? Well,
we are in section 'G.' A sign says 'Sections A-H' and points upstairs, oh
great, upstairs. But don't worry...we cannot find our seats, so I asked the
security guy. He points to this enormous space that has been cleared for one
big mob right in front of the stage...he says "you've got floor seats." (!!!)
Well, we find our seats and because so many people are already there we are
about 40 feet from the stage!! Pond opened first...they were really good, but
enough about them. Next was Rocket from the Crypt who really sucked. Every
time they played a song it was the SAME EVERY TIME. Some guys behind us were
chanting, "F- you, you suck...F- you, go home!!" Anyway, Rocket finally ended
to let the crew prepare for SG. It did take a while. But who could possibly
say that it was not worth it?? SG came out and opened with a great version of
Spoonman. Kim was wearing his Tool shirt and black jeans. Chris had on what
looked like his shirt from the Burden video...black short-sleeve button down.
Ben had on just a black t-shirt and black leather pants. From what I could see
Matt was wearing a white t-shirt and shorts. Ben was shockingly calm the
ENTIRE show. He only flicked us off ONCE, and the rest of the time just stood
there.
Then they played Searching with My Good Eye Closed. Chirs screamed "To the
sky" very well. His voice is back, have no fear. Next was one of my personal
fav's Let Me Drown. Afterwards Chris says something to the crowd about their
"glow in the dark thingys." Then something like, "This is the Enormo-dome.
Time for Monster, Monster trucks...Carbon monoxide poisoning!!!"
Next was Pretty Noose. Then Burden...during which they showed the sand dunes
and the hand from the video and the burning tree on a projection screen right
behind them. Then came My Wave which was followed by a very impressive, long
solo. During the song people had been throwing shirts at Chris. After the song
he said, "If you want to throw something to me then put it on stage and ask me
if I want it. If I don't then I'll throw your f-in' shit back!! Just keep it
OFF MY WAVE!!!"
Then Chris put down his guitar for Ty Cobb. I won't EVEN bother explaining
this one to all of you because I couldn't do it justice...has to be seen to
feel the energy. The chorus holds a flicking off battle between the crowd and
Chris. Then the band left the stage for Chris to do his thing. He played Black
Hole Sun all by his lonesome. Which really accented the lyrics. Needless to
say, the crowd sang alone. Then the band came back for a good version of
everbody's fav Outshined. Wow.
Then Rusty Cage and Black Days...
Then they played Helter Skelter which melted into Boot Camp, much better
live.
Then everyone left the stage for part of the Blow Up video to be shown. The
second time around when they flashed the word "enemy" on the screen they
showed Nixon and Clinton. Then everyone came back and riled the crowd with
Blow Up the Outside World. Then the played Rhinosaur which was very good.
I was surprised to hear the beginning of Hands All Over. Yes, they played
it... It was absolutely great. "All over the eastern border."
Everyone's favorite closer came next Slaves and Bulldozers. Towards the end
Chris left stage and came back with a lighted cigarette. He took a puff and
stuck it in Kim's mouth. Kim smoked it for a minute, and at the end flicked it
into the air and played "baseball" with the cigarette and his fret board. It
almost hit Chris. Then the band left...

But they didn't turn the lights on and everybody kept clapping and cheering
them to come back. They finally came back after only about 5 min of us beating
our hands together and screaming "Come Back!"
They played Dusty, good choice. Then after Dusty was over and there was a
little silence, I tried to scream but my voice was so worn out...I just
couldn't. I knew that they had been playing Jesus Christ Pose at their shows.
I had to hear it BAD. I tried to scream I tried and tried but only in vain.
Finally before they left or started another song whichever they were planning
to do...I got it out...through the noise I screamed "Jesus Christ Pose...Jesus
Christ Pose!!!" What did they play, you ask?? JCP. I loved it...Matt started
off with his drum part, I could feel each beat right through me. They extended
the beginning solo a little and Chris started in screaming...Wow. I can't say
anything else. I knew the words and they were drooling out of my worn throat.
But I was SO into it...I couldn't believe myself. When he started singing
"Like it's the coming of the Lord...." I could feel the music coursing trough
my veins. It was taking me over. And at the end when Matt finished drumming he
threw his drumsticks and banked them off the cymbals into the crowd!! I
severely encourage all who can see them to DEFINITELY SEE THEM. I hope they
have as good an experience as I did...Thanks for listening.

i honestly do not expect SG to have many more albums...which is not to say
that they cant do it, but that i really believe that the future of SG is
limited...theyve had a number of great releases...they have gone on to their
own production...in a way i almost see DOTU as the pennicle of their
career...not too mention the fact that touring has got to be wearing thin on
them all...i see the future holding Chris a solo career, much like that of
Mark Lanegan...i see Ben and Matt continuing to promote Hater and WWC
together, especially since they seem to mess so well together...with Matt
also doing some work with jazz bands...Kim will continue playing incredible
guitar for some very lucky band in the form of guest appearances...the band
not necessarily breaking up, rather directing their focus on their solo
and/or side projects and leaving SG to the back burner...i see them doing
this before SG has lost its edge...walking away leaving people saying "we
want more"...rather than "give up guys, your day is done"...

Gotta a question for you all. On the 'Songs for Ozzy' EP, there's a song
that has the same line as in Rusty Cage ("hit me with a hand of broken
nails"). Now, it's either "stolen prayer", "heartfist", or "unholy war"
that this line is in. Are these old Ozzy songs, sorry, I'm not really a big
Ozzy fan. Did Chris get this line from Ozzy. Or if Chris wrote the songs
on the Ozzy EP, why did he use the same line. TOO MANY QUESTIONS! Thanks
for any replies.

From: Hoffman <sandbar@interaccess.com>
Subject: Fellow Fan

I am two weeks too late in joining SOMMS as I was just told by Toni
(tonerkin@pipeline) that, had I signed on earlier, I could've probably
met SG at the 11/9 Chicago show! So, after I shed a few tears at the
missed opportunity, I decided to formally introduce myself to the
group so I don't miss out on anymore info...

First of all, the Soundgarden newsgroup has a totally different vibe
(like the majority of the subscribers are age 11, maybe?) from Somms
and I already can tell there is a sense of community about this group
- so, I'm most impressed.

Secondly, I am 25, live in Chicago and have loved this band from the
moment I heard them in '90 (believe it or not - my dad had Louder than
Love in '89 - way before I did! - Do I need to say he's cool?). I
firmly believe that to appreciate SG as the best band on the planet is
to know where their music originated...which definitely wasn't on
mainstream radio. For those of you in Chicago - can you believe XRT
finally started playing SG? The only other song this
adult-contemporary-thirtysome- thing radio station was ever cool
enough to play was "Seasons" which is cool.

Finally, the 11/9 show was the fourth time I've seen SG. Other shows are:

			1.	Chicago, May '92, Riviera
				(With Monster Magnet)
			2.	East Troy, Wisconsin, July '92, Lollapalooza
at Alpine Valley - you know the line-up
			3.	Chicago, June '94, Aragon
				(With Tad, 11)
			4.	Chicago, Nov '96, Aragon

At Toni's suggestion, I am going to relate the best show I witnessed
which was on the second stage at Lollapalooza. With Matt and Ben
standing on the sides of the tiny 2nd stage, Chris and Eddie V. sang
TOTD tunes (Say Hello 2 Heaven, for sure) others I can't recall..but,
at one point in their mini-set, Chris payed some kid in the crowd
$20.00 for his "Vedder for President in '92" T-shirt, put it on
himself for the rest of the show and then gave it back to the kid.
Did anyone else see this? Or, when they covered "Cop Killer" and the
crowd started a sod war with the band who were whipping it right back
at us (even Matt was throwing huge chunks of sod from behind his kit)!
Too bad I had to share the two great shows with a million other morons
who were most likely there to see the Peppers or Ministry (not that
there's anything wrong with that..it's just less intimate).

Which brings me to the Riv '92 show, intimate as it'll ever be,
probably. Chris surfs over to the Roman columns and climbs up to the
second balcony, hangs out for about a minute with the fans, (during
Slaves solo)and then dives back out onto the main floor. Now, that I
kind of miss from Chris, but I guess he just can't do that anymore
with the size of the crowds today.

Thanks for listening to me (and SG)!
Stephanie

Subject: Atlanta show

Hi Everybody,
I just got back to KY tonight from going to Atlanta and I know others have
already posted great and accurate reviews (good job Laura, etc), so I won't
repeat the wonderful experience except to say that it was so great to see
them live that when my friend Sandy suggested we leave earlier than planned
(on Sun) and go see them in Nashville, I was really tempted - I was just
afraid that we'd have a hard time getting tix, etc. (and I really wanted to
see Hype while in Atlanta since it'll probably never come here). I do have
to say that, IMHO, Chris is just THE most mesmerizing performer - you just
can't stop watching him, can you? We noticed (with binoculars) that Kim sat
on the side of the stage (behind the amps) during Pond's set - he seemed very
relaxed (smiled a lot) and he was wearing a fanny pack, which just seems so,
I don't know, "normal" :)

It was great getting to meet Laura and her brother Rich and Marianna and
Carlos!! It really is a treat to put faces with the names. I'm sorry you
couldn't go see Hype with us on Sun, Laura; Be sure to go see it when it
opens in DC. I'm so glad that your seats were next to ours (what a
