It was great meeting some of the people on the mailing list. I'm glad I
finally got to meet the infamous Jamie, Greg, Toni, Chris, Seth, and Dylan.
Since I don't post often, it was a thrill to meet the faces behind the words.
I had a great time with Chris (Hope you found your girfriend). I had a great
talk with Dylan(Good luck with you band), and I found out alot from Jamie and
Toni. Everyone was extremely nice and helpful. Since this was my first
concert, it made it really exciting to meet all these people who actually knew
the ropes. I'll stop rambling now. Just want to say that the concert
completely exceeded all my expectations. I would have had more fun if I
wasn't being crushed against the railings and I was three inches taller. I
guess that's all part of the learning process, right?

I had been wondering for a while now why Soundgarden hasn't appeared on the
cover of Rolling Stone since July 94 and the last big thing on them was the
Chris interview in the January 95 issue. Apart from a brief studio report
and a review of DOTU, nothing!

So maybe Chris' tirade had nothing to do with the Eddie Vedder article. I
have a vague recollection of someone posting this list earlier this year
that Rolling Stone had printed that Chris was gay. Does anyone remember
this? But would he really care if they did print that anyway? I doubt it.

I also read some time ago that their publicist Laura was only granting
interviews with the band to magazines that would put them on the cover.
Maybe Rolling Stone didn't want to play ball, but again, I can't see this as
the reason.

I attended the Philly show on Thursday night and Imust say they were even
better than I thought they were going to be. Chris sounded like he had a
little trouble with Spoonman but after that his was really good. The set
ran for about 2 to 2 hours and 10 min. Tenderlion who was playing their
last show on the tour wasn't bad. I wasn't expecting much because many
people had said they sucked but I was quite suprised. Rocket From The
Crypt wasn't very good but I didn't think they were going to be. I would
have to say it was the best concert I ever went to(right in front of Urge
Overkill at the same venue which was almost just over a year ago to the
day).
The set:(not in order)
Pretty noose, Dusty, Ty Cobb, Blow Up The Outside World, Burden In My Hand,
Never The Machine Forever, Boot Camp

Let Me Drown, My Wave, Fell On Black Days, Black Hole Sun, Spoonman,
Kickstand

Rusty Cage, Outshined, Slaves & Bulldozers, Jesus Christ Pose

Hands All Over, Helter Skelter, Search And Destroy(Iggy Pop)

Subject: Moron the Washington Review!

Well, my head is finally back together and my ear have stopped ringing, so I
guess it's time for me to chip in with my review of the D.C. show...

First off, my night was made before I ever got over to the Patriot Center.
I stopped by the local Fuddruckers to meet Jamie, Toni, Dylan, Chris, and
Kelly, which was really cool. I had met Jamie over the previous weekend to
work out the details, so I recognized her and Toni from her picture on the
member directory. We walked in together, and there was this crowd standing
in front of us. So I kind of asked, "Hey, are you with the SOMMS mailing
list?" Everyone said yes, we did all of our introductions and sat down.
Man was it awesome! I've never been in the presence of so many real SG fans
in my life! I've got a couple of other friends who like SG, but they only
know back to BMF. If I start talking about Hands all Over or Incessant
Mace, they just stare at me. Anyway, we all just sat there and takled for
about two hours about all kinds of stuff (yes Toni, even STP...) I see
where Chris now refers to me as Greg the Thug. Hmmm... I think I'll leave
the thugliness to our SOMMS Sheriff.

So after a couple of beers and some conversation, it was time to move over
to the arena. We got there about an hour before the show, and I got my JCP
T-shirt. I loved the BMF design on the long-sleeve, but I never wear
long-sleeve shirts, so $35 was kind of steep. (Toni and I got to talking
about the BMF logo and Frank Kolzik. Has anyone heard from Frank recently?)
Jamie and Toni found some great seats near the floor. Dylan, Kelly, and
Chris moved down to the pit, and I met a couple of other friends up high in
our "warm-up band seats." I leave most of the Tenderloin and Rocket from
the Crypt reviews to Chris. He was right on there. Tenderloin rates pretty
good on my list. I like their Texas style of rock, and the lead singer's
got a pretty good sense of humor. Matt and Ben came out to do a Howlin'
Wolf cover with them that absolutely rocked. Rocket from the Crypt was kind
of like "Happy Days meets the Ramones." They seem to be a lot more flash
than cash, and the dancing boy has got to go. So does the "We are the shit"
attitude they come out with.

On to SG. When they took the stage, I was really worried how Chris was
going to sound. He definitely started off the night restrained, but by the
time Drawing Flies and Slaves and Bulldozers cam around, he was going for
it. Kim wasn't wearing the Tool shirt (damn), instead he had on a Terror
Crew shirt. Matt had that wonderful "Fuck You" shirt with the giant image
of the bird right in the middle. I've definitely goto to get me one of
those. Anyway, the set list went something like this...

Spoonman
Searching with My Good Eye Closed
Let Me drown
Pretty Noose (dedicated to the "bitch")
My Wave (dedicated to Rolling Stone)
Ty Cobb (dedicated to Tenderloin... geez, a lot of dedications...)
Fell on Black Days
Burden in My Hand
Helter Skelter / Applebite
Rusty Cage
Boot Camp
Black Hole Sun (acoustic)
Outshined
Kickstand
Dusty
BUTOW
Drawing Flies
Slaves and Bulldozers

Never the Machine Forever
Jesus Christ Pose

That's pretty close to what it was. The first three songs and the encore
I'm sure of. In between, I've got the ordering as well as I can remember.

Anyway, when they opened with Spoonman I was all they way at the back of the
pit. It was pretty calm back there, everyone seemed a little older and they
appeared to be there for the music. I bobbed and weaved my way throught the
pit (got my bell rung by a crowd surfer once), and made it to the front of
the stage just before they started Pretty Noose. Down front were the usual
fuck-ups who were there to beat on people and occasionally yell, "Play Rusty
Cage!" or something like that. Oh well, I had made my way directly in front
of Ben, and there was no way I was losing that ground. I was expecting
antics like the Chicage shows, but Ben didn't do much of anything. I
mentioned once before that I got his attention between Burden and Helter,
and he just kind of stormed off. Bummer. Well, with Ben doing nothing and
considering the beating I was taking down on the front row (being shoved
into people is a lot less painful than being squished up on the railing. It
doesn't give at all...), I only stayed until Black Hole Sun. Things kind of
calmed down then, so I made my way back to where Jamie and Toni were
sitting/standing/dancing/yelling, and watched the rest of the show from
there. Slaves and Bulldozers was definitely the highlight of the show.
Well, that and watching Toni dance in the aisles during the show. Kim
ripped on guitar, even playing with his tounge and behind his head, a la
Jimi Hendrix. Chris really gave it his all, but it was obvious he was still
suffering from the effects of his laryngitis. And Ben... well, he was
tearing up that bass. I just wish he'd torn up some of the stage as well.

I was really hoping for the Mailman/JCP encore. I knew thay had done No
Attention a couple of times as well, but I really love Mailman. They did
NTMF instead, but they kicked ass on it. I remember at Fuddruckers saying
how NTMF ws still growing on me. How each time I hear it, I discover
something else about it that I really like. So it was real cool to hear it
live. As for JCP, I really don't remember too much except for Matt. I
really just wanted to watch him play on this one, and he was absolutely
amazing. It's amazing to me how he can get both arms and both legs doing so
many different things with such coordination and precision. I saw Neil
Peart do a 10 minute solo during Rush's '94 tour that absolutely blew me
away. Matt didn't solo, but just watching him during JCP was every bit as good.

Well, I left the show with a big smile across my face, and I'm sure everyone
else did as well. I can't wait for a spring tour now. If it comes anywhere
near D.C., I'm there. Hopefully I'll get to meet more SOMMS members as well.

Subject: Multiflavored Eggos, Smiley Faces, and of course......Soundgarden!!

Hey All,
I was watching TV yesterday and I saw that Eggo commercial. You know the
one where they are introducing all the new flavors, well, anyway, the guy
that they had do the commercial is really weird and funny looking. To get to
the point, he looks in his freezer every morning and smiles really big. The
way he smiled reminded me of the BHS video because he looks exactly like one
of the characters that run around with unusually big smiles on their faces.
I just thought that was the weirdest thing. Anyhow, I was also flipping
channels and I caught the BUTOW video and I thought, "Hell, MTV never plays
anything earlier than BHS so I'll watch this to get my Soundgarden fix." But
I noticed when the part with the smiley face came on the smiley was gone. I
couldn't figure out what they were doing because it lasted like a half of a
nanosecond. Oh well!! Also, you know that group The Presidents of the USA?
Anyway, Kim played guitar on the last track of their CD, a song called Naked
& Famous, and it is really cool. When I heard the song I was like "WOW!!"
and then I looked at the credits on the CD cover and sure enough that awesome
guitar player was Kim. That man is so amazing, they all are. Well, just
thought I would share and sorry I babbled on!!! Hugz & Cyber Kisses!!!!!!

Toodles,
Kelly :)

P.S. Not even 3 more days til the Houston show and counting down!!!!!! :)

I was curious (worried) about how Chris' voice was doing lately.
If anyone has insight on my problem, do reply. The Nashville show
is on Sunday and my friend just SOLD HER TICKET because she
thought his voice was completely shot. Please allow me to prove
her wrong.

To: The Tree People...(sorry, but I'm sick of cut n pasting all your email
address's :-)
Note: The 'Eagle' (7/13/96) has landed and It's incredible! The quality
is better than most shitty CD boots and even better than the Ferris show!.
I'll get those out ASAP.

IF I find a copy of the TO show...I'll tree that one also :-)

Question: Will the MTV Europe SG thingy be a full concert? partial
footage? Anybody in the know...send the info along. If you have a
satellite system and can pick up MTV Europe...get in touch with me.

<soapbox>
Note: selling, for profit, unauthorized SG items on this list is very
*uncool*.
</soapbox>

Very basic information (just the track listing) for Kim's High School band
"Identity Crisis" has been uncovered. Wasnt someone writing a book about
Kim?...seems they would be interested in that info.
