Rusty Cage
KickStand
Ty Cobb
Helter skelter/Bootcamp
Black hole sun solo version
BimH
Outshined
~he said goonight at this point they left n came back.
BUTOW
JCP

other fun notes: he threw water on us after he drank out of it.
the Tech? came out with beer for the band. That was kewl. Chris
flipped the crowad off. I noticed he did not announce the songs, like
does he really have to? Ben did the solider march. Kim kept playing
when it was over as he was walking away I could see him behind that
whatever the hell it was. I was all over this place.
Sorry earlier about the nipple comment but He DID take his shirt of n
he was glistening with sweat hehehehehe. I was only kidding I didn't
stare at them all night. LOL. I was too busy trying to mosh, the
crowad was really polite, well expect for a few personal things. Oh
Kim waved to where I was standing. I made eye contact with Chris n
Kim. As far as Ben n Matt, Ben was on the other side was too busy I
staring at Kim. The guy is amazing he is totally engrossed. Nothing
destracts him. Well n Matt he was behind those drums couldn't see him
too well. Oh I was studying every muscles on Chris mainly to see if he
is healthy. (yeah right.) He looks fine he looks like he has been
working out I think age has gotten to him or is. But really he is
beautiful Oh YES I saw it for myself tonight KIM DOES have a bald spot
so if Kim wants some of my hair since, I think we use the same shampoo
he can have some. I have plenty to spare. Well enough for Kim.:-)
I want to say I love them all. They somehow express what I want to say
but I don't know how or can't find the words becuz actaully there are
no words that can I say what I want to say just loud roaring guitars.
Thank you, soundgarden for the excellent performance. Hi Foo!

I am just a babbling fool really,

I also went to the DC show and wanted to add a couple of things. It was
great meeting some of the southeastern sommsters for burgers and music
talk...we kept it pretty Soundgarden related, Seth!! Although who
mentioned........STP????? Jamie was a gracious hostess and a good
driver(OK so we did get lost after but only for a short while..I never saw
that part of Virginia before) As for the show itself(which I know is what
you are wanting to read) it was very interesting in that it once again
proved to me how different this band can be!! And can I add the word
"moody"???? Like has been said previously Ben was stapled to the floor most
of the time. Kim seemed also quite calm and laid back. Someone gets a bogey
for crackin Matt with a golf ball. Chris' voice was protected by very
little talking, a lower registor on some songs and even longer instrumentals
in the middle(Yes, I know there is some fancy term for what that part of the
song is called but the hell if I can remember it..help me music major)
Slaves and Bulldozers being particularily long...not that I mind hearing Kim
shine anyway. NO TOOL SHIRT! Darn!! I couldn't read what Kim's shirt said
very well could someone down front tell me for sure what it was?? Musically
I thought they sounded just fine(accoutics weren't bad in the Patriot's
Center) and wow did they have the top notch well-dressed concessesion stand
staff.....they scared me they were so smiley and friendly!! Thought I was
at the ice capades not a Soundgarden show. And the biggest news of the
night was BEN'S TECH LIVES..........for all you that were afraid he wouldn't
live through Ben's tirades he has and looks fine....no black eyes or broken
ribs!! doesn't even look like he hates his job!!! toni

Hello, Hello!!!! Okay, I've been a SG fan for quite some time, but
just recently decided to join the fan club. (Wow--my first fan club
ever) Anyway, I just got my packet in the mail yesterday and they
said that SG will be doing a spring US tour to hit all the places
they missed the first time around. SO--keep your fingers
crossed--they could be coming to a city near you! Sorry they didn't
have any locations included, but I'm sure they will let us know soon.

Subject: PHILLY SHOW!!!!

Well, all these flames call for a SG related post, so here it is. I
was at the Philly show last night and all I can say is OH MY GOD!!! I sing
in a band myself and I want Chris' s doctor whoever he is. If Chris was
sick, he sure didn' tsound it. They opened with Spoonman, into Let me
Drown, and then, believe it or not, Hands All Over which kind of shocked me.
I was starting to get worried about his voice holding up during Pretty
Noose, the 4th song, which didn' tsound all that great on his part. The
next song was BIMH and those doubts were completely erased. ON that note...
Does anyone notice a trend that Chris has trouble singing Pretty Noose?? I
didn't think he sounded all tthat great on SNL singin that one either. Maybe
it's just me... ANyway, the band played very tight with a couple rare
exceptions. Matt was amazing as usual. And, by the way, Chris's solo
version of Black Hole Sun was amazing and chilling. I had read some reports
that some people found it flat and unemotional but I STRONGLY disagree. The
songs played in no particular order were:
Hands all over
Rusty Cage
Outshined
Slaves and Bulldozers
JCP
Let me Drown
My Wave
Fell On Black Days
BHS (solo)
Spoonman
Kickstand
Pretty Noose
Dusty
Ty Cobb
Blow Up...
BIMH
Helter Skelter/Boot Camp (which was fucking great!!!)
...and one more that I didn' t recognize. Anyone who was there know what it
was???
Last thing... he may be able to play bass, but God is Ben a fucking
asshole. No offense to the band or anyone on this list who really likes
Ben. I completely admire his playing, but I didn't pay 20 fucking dollars
to watch him stand there like he could give a shit. Then when he finally
does move, he spits at fans, gives them the finger, makes rude gestures at
women. WHAT'S HIS FUCKING PROBLEM??? I know this is old news on the list,
but this was my first exposure to this and I wanted to wait and see it for
myself. I mean if he's having such a bad time, step off and let someone
else have a shot at playing bass for one of the best bands in the world.
There are millions of people who would kill for a shot at what he has, and
I'm just fucking sick of rock stars who act like its a pain in the ass to
have people who love your work and pay lots of money to come and damn near
worship you. If they don't want it fucking let some of us have a shot at
it. I guarantee you we' ll appreciate the people who got us there. If
anyone knows if he' s like this in everyday life, PLEASE let me know,
because I' d really rather not dislike ANYTHING about SG. Anyone at the
show, feel free to e-mail me with your thoughts. God, they were
incredible...

I'm glad to finally see the subjects of the entries to be totally SG related.
Kudos to Seth in trying to keep the integrity of the list and the
subscribers in focus to the true reason we are on the list, to talk about SG
and related topics.

Does anyone know for sure if there will be a spring tour? I hope so since I
missed the recent Detroit show. Since I just recently moved to Michigan, I
haven't found any avid SG followers. If there's anybody out there in the
Detroit area, I'd love to go to the show if SG decides to come back anytime
soon. I also hope they continue to play some smaller venues rather than the
big arena gigs.

What's the latest news on a new Hater disc?

I read that Chris and his sister were kicked out of Catholic school
for asking too many questions. For anyone raised Catholic I would say
religion is a very ambiguous thing. The impression I get is Chris has
a kind of rebellion against organized religion not necessarily god or
spirituality. Just my take on things...

IMHO, the new tool cd towers over anything released this year, and that

Hey everyone..I know I'm not a big poster here but that's probably

Last of all--about how everyone has been talking about Chirs

Subject: Washington review!

HEY HEY HEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since I haven't gotten my Friday digest yet, some of this may sound
stupid, but WE'LL SEE!!!!!!!!!
Basically, this is my clucked up version of the Washington DC show

First, I sped from school to get to Fudruckers in time to meet all the
other DC sommsters! It was kinda cool how we were all standing and
waiting and just turned to each other at the same time and said "Are you
guys soundgarden people?"
As much as I'd love to run down attendance, I have CRS from being in the
pit all night. Jamie, Greg da thug, Dylan, Sean, Jamie's friend from
chicago, and two really great people from Marshall high school.
The food was okay and at around six I went to go wait in line. Got there
in time to hear bits and pieces of Rocket From the Crypt's soundcheck.
Had my mind made up right there that they weren't going to be worth
listening to...
Eventually we were let inside, i bought my tour shirt, and proceeded to
the floor to secure a good place. Sean, Dylan, and I coaxed the pitcrew
to pass a "hi from SOMMS" note back to the band. I think he thought I
was on crack when I told him to tell Soundgarden that the SOMMSters said
hello.
Tenderloin came on around 8:15 and I was really impressed. Sure, the
singer's a fatass, but the band really rocked hard. No one in the pit
really had a clue what was going on, so I really got to hear the music.
YES, Ben and Matt came out and did a song with them.
Onto Rocket from the Crypt...
they need to go back to the crypt! The only thing I took away from their
performance was that they have some monkey boy who serves to attract
thrown objects away from the important members, the singer talks way too
much, and they're too full of themselves.
I bet you'd like to hear about some Soundgarden, huh?
Well, needless to say, I was really woried about the show quality with
Chris having laryingitis and all, but the band came out and rocked all
the same. They opened with Spoonman and of course the pit went crazy.
By the time the band stopped playing I was more than 100 feet from where
I began. Like I said, if you want a real setlist, here is not the place.
Throughout the night I stayed in the pit and lost 6 pounds in sweat.
Tell me I'm not dedicated! As for the setlist, I kept thinking, "this
must be the greatest fuckin' soundgarden setlist ever!" They started out
with a lot of new songs from DOTU... Pretty Noose began with, "yep, this
is a song about the bitch -- Stupid Bitch! I didn't love her... I don't
even think I liked her!"
After much crap thrown onto the stage Ben jumps up to the mike, "Hey! Are
there a lot of golfers out there?" CHEERING"Well, why don't you keep your
balls at home... FAG!"
Chris: "DId y'all come here to throw shit or hear some music.... THat's
what I thought, now if you see someone throwing shit, just punch 'em in
the face..."
Then they played Ty Cobb. It ruled, except they had the drummer from
Tenderloin out and he fucked up a bunch. I was kinda disapointed. The
band really gelled when they went into the Badmotorfinger stuff. They
played Helter Skelter into I believe it was Boot Camp. It was all very
slow and trippy. BUt like I said, the BMF shit was on. Slaves and
Bulldozers was absolutely the best song I've ever seen live. Even though
Chris' laryngitis came through on BHS, he STILL hit all those high notes
in Slaves and BUlldozers. It sent chills down my spine. Kim soloed
behind his back and Ben responded by grabbing his crotch. BEN RULES!!
Overall, the night was magic. The band knew it and so did the fans. I
caught Kim looking over and bugging out his eyes and going, "WOW.."
During some point in the show, Chris severly dissed Rolling Stone. "I'm
gonna come to all your houses and wipe my ass on your fuckin' Rolling
Stones" He was refering to the Magazene... any ideas why?
The last song was JCP. It was okay. People were almost too full of SG
to take that big a helping of JCP, but it was the perfect closing song.
Of course all the dummies got upt to leave before the encore. Chris
comes out and says, "hey, we're gonna let all the people in the seats
leave, and then do an encore." heheheheh
The night was finalized by Kim coming out on stage and chugging a can of
beer. How fuckin' cool!
EQUIPMENT: A lot more teles than has been mentioned before, the regular
MEsa's , Kim uses a HUGE effects board & cry baby wah. Ben mostly stuck
with the Precision, but looked like he was using a washburn as well.
Anyone with questions can email me. I know this is a terrible review,
but like I said, I stayed in the pit the whole time and can't produce an
accurate set list.
Thanks,
Chris

I walk these streets alone, shadows hide my face
My sins are etched in stone, never to erase
My fears unshakeable, if I could believe
I'd trade these wings of gold, for what I really need

Today I got this really cool 7" ep of Hands All Over.
It has HAO, Big Dumb Sex, Heretic, and Come Together.
It came in this groovy gatefold cover, with some pictures of
the band (with everman) on each fold. And it had the lyrics
printed on the inside. Spent my last 15 bucks on it. I think
it was worth it, just for the pictures alone. Theres this really
funny one with kim giving the finger to the camera.
And just on the radio someone requested they play Sg's version of
Into the Void, and the dj actually had it, and played it...the whole
song. So now I know I cant be the only soundgarden fan in this town.

has there already been a thread re: the similarity of the riff in "dusty"
to "dazed and confused" from Zeppelin I? i recognized this a while ago,
actually when i bought DOTU...i keep hearing elements of other songs on
DOTU. what does everyone else think?

while cd hunting in cellophane square today they played "screaming life."
the drum part of "hand of god" is amazing! i had never really heard it
before, is usually sounds so muddled to me. they have Sub Pop 100,
Outshined 12", SU 12", DOTU 12" if anyone's looking for them. also, there
is the doomed-to-remain-in-the-display-case-at-the-front-counter copies of
BMF/SOMMS and Louder Than Live (non duct-tape version) available for $60
and $75 each, respectively.

Hey Jen, I don't think that's a bad idea at all! I know Steve mentioned =
that SG often have film footage on a big screen behind them when they =
play at concerts. I think it'd look great if they had live close-ups of =
Matt's drumming in the background, especially during a song like JCP!

Thanks for the DC reviews, but as Cathey requested - more details, =
please! Like, which of the Somms members met up before the concert this =
time? Where did you all meet? =20

One other thing I keep forgetting to ask - how many people have been at =
each of the SG shows so far? I have no idea of what sort of crowd sizes =
there are in the States. Are we talking hundreds, thousands, tens of =
thousands of people??

Got up feeling so down........Soundgarden
(hey - tonight's movie on tele was "True Romance" - the whole song of =
Outshined was in it for a scene, and every time the station cut to the =
adverts, the music from Outshined was played)

Afflicted with bronchitis, I can defenitely say I feel like POOP!! But,
Thursdays somms defenitely made me feel better....under normal
circumstances, like when someone doesn't post to somms@mit.edu, I'll write
them a private email and be polite, if they do it again, then it's flame
on---but still privately......when a whole bunch of people are being asses,
I usually sit back and really crank out a good, sarcastic, ass-kicker. But
this situation defenitely was unique......for i'm not usually for flame wars
on the list, but ORANGE-boy was defenitely a munching ass. But let's not
make it a habit...this smacks of the same type of thing with caryn, and,
guys, usually the muncher leaves the list. But no wars, unless someone's
really munching.......
On to other business, I hope I didn't get Chris sick.......when I met him in
chicago, I shook his hand, and I had the flu at the time.....well, he has
laryngitis, so it probably wasn't me. But I was thinking about that a few
days after the show, then boom! So I was nervous for awhile.
Anyway, this post has little relevance, and isn't very interesting, but I'm
high on antibiotics, so there.

P.S. Come check out my "polka" band, we're playing in ORANGE county.

For those of you who went to the D.C. show, the drummer from Tenderloin who
filled in for Matt for however many songs is Taz, former drummer of the
Reverend Horton Heat. Just thought I'd share.
