***SPECIAL REPORT: The Sunday night show at Roseland in New York City
was cancelled due to problems with Chris' voice. Reports indicate he
has a cold or bronchitis, so let's hope for a speedy recovery. Tuesday
night's show at Brandeis University may be cancelled as well... I'll
be sure to pass on any information I receive. -seth

Lufkin person complaining to me about his soundgarden misfortune. While I
hate that it happened, I am not the one he needs to speak to. If none of

Subject: Chris likes it dark...NYC 16 report

My favorite line for the week...."I'd let you lick it if I had one"

Anyway. I didn't meet up with any of the Sommsters, 'cause I got to NYC too
late to go to the meeting place. But it was an awesome show. I must say it
was exciting, finnding myself in the middle of the pit, getting trampled,
getting high of the smoke in the room, my pants sticky from the spilled beer,
not being able to see them at certain times, plus meeting some wild people.

As for the rest of the night, I found myself into some kind of mist, when
Chris wanted it to be dark, no lights whatsoever. I know a lot of people
didn't know what to make of it, or not only that, but took what he said the
whole wime...sexually. I don't mean it was wrong to think that, but I took
it on a more personal level. I don't know if was because it struck a cord
with me, or if I really saw the man as he is. I know what he was feeling,
because(watch me sound stupid now)I feel the same way Chris is. I don't
consider myself to be as much as a recluse as he is, but I find that Chris
and I have more in common when it comes down to moods, and personality.
(maybe it's a Cancer thing) So when he was talking, and singing, I guess you
can say I felt some kind of bond. but overall, I think that was an awesome
concert, that gave me even more a reason to listen to the band that I love so
much.

One more thing, if anyone knows the set list for the 16th show, please e-mail
it to me.

Subject: Hype!

Saw Hype! Friday night at the Fort Lauderdale International Film
Festival. It played at 11 pm. About 100 people there. Don't know if
anyone else on the list knew about this or was actually there, because
there was scant warning in the papers, and I happened to catch it almost
by accident... but enough about that. The movie was incredible, not just
for the great performance of SWMGEC, but just overall. Funny thing about
SG's performance was that it was taken at an arena (I don't remember
which), while every other performance in the movie was from Seattle
clubs. They cut out after the first two verses of SWMGEC and interview
Kim, and then (thankfully) cut back in, but all the while the music is in
the background during that part of the interview. Lots of names from
SG's past, lots with Jack Endino, some with Steve Fisk, Charles Peterson,
and the founders of Sub Pop. Suprisingly, there was a lot of Kim and a
tiny bit with Matt (they were being interviewed together, but Kim did all
the talking. Don't know when it's coming to your town, but definitely go
see it.

BTW, the distributor at the beginning of the movie was CFR, and their
logo was a maple leaf, which would lead me to believe that the C is for
Canadian, if that does anything at all for you...

hey all--

i finally caught up on all of my sg mail. those posts about the chicago show
had me smiling from ear to ear. i am so happy for you guys! but the best
part was reading about the seth surprise--i nearly cried--and i don't even
know any of you!

the reviews got me totally pumped for the sg shows i am going to this week:
dc on wednesday and atlanta on sat. i can't wait to meet everyone--esp those
who have the pics and the tales from the frontlines. :-)

two quick responses to others' posts:

the seattle scene: girls against boys are from dc (i am proud to say) and
record for touch and go (not sub pop), though they recently signed to geffen.

the zep comparisons: can get out of hand, i agree, but fresh tendrils reminds
me of kasmir, and i mean that in a good way--they are two of my faves ..i
guess i like the eastern influence.

finally, i want to welcome a new list member, my friend jacki, who is going
with me to the sg patriot center show on wed. and hi to paul, the other
congregator, who got me on this list a while back....

Subject: 2nd NYC show

Last night's show at the Roseland was one of the strangest SG shows I've
attended (this was my 6th). Chris had a cold and his voice was shot. He
was a real trooper, though, and tried really hard. The band seemed to be,
well, in a really goofy mood. Chris's raps with the audience were some of
the wierdest (and funniest) I've heard. The rest of the band found them
quite amusing as well. Feigning sincerity, he kept saying things like,
"Tonight is really special for me. I'm going to remember this night. I'm
not kidding. I really am." Ben had a smile on his face the entire night,
rarely flipped off people, and only spit at the audience once. He kept
making these really goofy gestures at the audience. Does anybody know
what it means when he crosses his arms and wiggles his fingers? At one
point during the show, Chris ripped his microphone from the chord and
threw it into the audience. The last song of the set, Ben knocked over
his speakers and then bashed his bass a bit. Chris then said, "I don't
think he quite got what he wanted to get." After getting audience
approval, he then smashed his black Telecaster over the trunk where Ben's
speakers once sat, severing the neck from the body and then tossed the
neck into the audience. Prior to the encore, Kim walked across stage
holding hands with the drummer from Tenderloin (earlier the drummer sat in
on Ty Cobb, with Chris announcing that he and the drummer were lovers).
After the encore, Chris fell on Ben into Kim's speakers, knocking them
over. They sort of laid on top of the speakers for a while the standard
end-of-show feedback rang out--I couldn't really see what they were doing.
Then Chris got up and threw his Les Paul into the audience as he walked
off stage.

Oh yeah, they played some music too. You already know what the set list
was. I must say I found it terribly disappointing. They played nothing
prior to BMF and they played my three least favorite SG tunes: "Spoonman",
"Outshined", and "Black Hole Sun". I yearn for the days when "Beyond the
Wheel" and "Gun" were part of the set list. Does anybody know why they
don't play the old stuff?

I'm interested to see if tonight's show will be as strange as last
night's. I thought that the last night in NYC would be the night that
they really pulled out all the stops, but I don't know if they can beat
last night's show.

Ok. . .so I had a screaming orgasmic fit in the middle of our local
unfriendly Camelot store last night. I was wishfully paging through the
all too familiar SG singles, "imports"ha ha, and regular stuff. I
thought I knew the answer, stumbled on and all the store, turned around
and freaking stared. I had found the Burden In My Hand single (part 2)
in the regular POP cd section. Yippee-kye-aye-mutha-fu**a!!!! My
employees (who were with me at the time) stared in disbelief and
embarrassment as I began to shake with the excitement of having found a
new Soundgarden experience to enjoy. The could have disembowled me and
I STILL would have been on cloud 10!

So anyway, here's what it's all about. The single, of course, is for
Burden In My Hand, and also includes Bleed Together, and She's A
Politician. PLUS. . .PLUS. . .PLUS!!! As if THAT didn't get my gizzard
goin', there is a Chris Cornell interview from April 1996 with Tom
Russell in (I'm assuming) Ireland. Hallelujah! Praise Soundgarden!

There was also a Free poster of the band inside! Well whaddya know
about THAT?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!

The cover of it is available on the unofficial webpage in the images
section. It is of the desert tree with the scratches on the side. Dear
Heavens. . .it was great!

I'm guilty of reading the AOL message boards again, kiddies. Word in

Chris is sick. Is this true... or are those little bastards just messing
with our heads again? If he *is* sick enough to cancel a show... I wonder if
they'll reschedule? (Please please please don't let them cancel any TX

soup for Chris... and then give him an ALL over body rubdown with that Vicks

think baby oil would make him feel better, anyway.) =) And don't think that
I don't know what YOU perverts are thinking. Listen up!! I'm ONLY concerned

if it is something that is going to affect chris' singing (which
I'm sure a cold/flu definitely would), then I think that the
band/management will cancel as many shows as they can until his throat or
lungs get better. I imagine that the band wants to give the best show that
they can give, so if chris' voice or head aren't up to the challenge, then
shows will be probably be postponed and rescheduled for later in the tour
(sometime in december?). it would certainly be a pain in the ass for all
concerned, and I truly feel for those listers who may miss them this time
around, but considering his vocal problem of a couple of years ago it
would be better for him and the band not to strain his voice.

btw, I heard 'brewicide' for the first time this morning (thanks
skinnys), and it is pretty cool. there is a real jungle sort of feel to
it; it made me think of kim playing for a ministry-type band (drummer bill
rieflin is from ministry?). like ray, I heard similarities between kim's
playing here and on songs like 'blind dogs' and 'new damage', with a
little 'rusty cage' noodling here and there. all in all, it is an
excellent song, much much better than 'jerry garcia's finger'. there is
also the added bonus of hearing jeff gilbert chug a beer halfway through
the song (just when you thought it was going to end), and then being
delighted by what I think is jeff relieving himself of the unwanted beer.
if I ever see it cheap (cheaper than $30 at any rate) then I think I'll
buy it just on the strength of that one track. let's hold hands and pray,
sommsters, for more work from dark load :)

Subject: Roseland Saturday my experience

Hi fellow Soundgarden fans, well first of all I had made some plans to
meet some somsters before the show and I had trouble finding them at
first but I eventually got up the courage to ask a few people sitting
together who from my eaves dropping seemed to be the right people if
they were there for the soundgarden show and they were of course. So
we sat down and started to talk which was great because I usually end
up going to concerts alone or with someone who is not as big a fan of
the band as I am. I started to get really psyched for the show because
the bar we met at had a great jukebox and they were playing loads of
soundgarden and we all starting sing along and LOUDLY :). It was
amazing to be sing with others who new the lyrics even better than I
did (I usually do this alone and it feels kind of lonely) anyway I
felt really good with everybody I met there which was great to so I'm
really glad I met all of you Cynthia , Heather, Paul , and Greg? ( I
forgot your name even though I know you unsubscibed for now I'm sorry)
it felt great to bond and got me in the mood to rock. Well when we got
to Roseland I was pleasantly surprised because after a run in with a
very cold person at Roseland about seating since Cyn is disabled she
is eligible for special seating well she got all five of us in with
her (thanks so much Cyn !!!) so we were stage right on top of the
speakers with a barricade between us and the moshpit which was great.
So we had at least some room to dance with out having to worry about
head injury, a great view of the stage and we could see the band go on
and off stage. Ok now for the show itself they opened with Spoon and
Searching as always on this tour but for me the show really started to
Rock when they played Burden I just started to dance and shout with
total abandon at that point and the show just heated up from there . I
may not go chronoglicaly now btw, Chris did alot of bantering with the
audience especially before my wave saying to us what every you wanna
do is okay by me about three quarters of the way through the show he
lost alot of his voice so when he was about to sing black hole sun he
asked for help and we all sang along to help him out and I felt he
really dug it he said he did at the end any way I know I did . Feeling
like I could let go since I had comrades around me was amazing and no
matter how well soundgarden played this made the show much better . I
would say they played pretty much the same set they had been playing
on the tour though they brought out the drummer from Tenderloin to
play ty cobb which i thought was a really warm gesture and Chriss even
apologized to him for having fucked up during song making him feel
good because I guess he felt a little intimidated by the drum part he
had to play for that song. They also brought out the singer for
Tenderloin and he sang some song I don't think it was a Soundgarden
song but I'm sure some else with have that info. The only downer the
whole night was during Blow up when this one very wasted guy went
under the barricaded and stood next to me which I just let go but he
was very out of control and was falling on the others I was with and
we finally ended up getting a security guard ( this one was very cool
that was nice since alot of them can be very brutal) he got the guy to
go back to where he had been previously away from us of course when
got there he immediately fell on his face. Chriss's voice was really
weak later on god I wonder how he will play tonite unfortunately I
won't be there and I know some of the people I was with are there as I
write this so I hope its a great show tonite and next time I'll get
tickets for more than one show . Well that's one man's opinion . I
have enjoyed reading about the chicago experiences as well as others
just thought I'd throw mine in.

And I also want to thank Seth for his amazing page and for his
devotion to the list and the people on it for with out him I would not
have gone or know about the shows or met the groovy people I did
