Subject: Chicago Sommsfest....2nd edition

ok, since i am the first person home i get the honours of the first offical
review...

wow, where to even start...this whole weekend was like a dream...it could
not have gone any better had i written a script for it...

first, let me say that everyone was incredible...Toni was a fantastic
hostess and i really loved everyone that i met...

so, without further babbling...

we all met at Moody's in chicago before the show...there were a ton of
people and i hate to say i really was not able to talk to everyone, but it
seemed that we all got along very well and i think that friendships made
there are stronger than ever...after everyone had gotten there etc, all was
missing was Erin, from silver management...she arrived with an *attractive*
young man in tow...walked up to the group introduced herself...then
introduced her friend..."this is Seth" she says...well, after about a 5 sec
delay to react to her words and realize what they meant...it all sinks
in...IT WAS SETH!!!! our Seth...wow...talk about the biggest surprise of
the entire trip...he really kept that a good secret...tho i hear a certain
little aussie, who shall remane nameless (justin) knew...at any rate...there
was our Seth...if anyone at all should have been there, it was Seth...and i
swear everyone was truly touched that he was there, because like it or not
Seth, you too have touched all our lives in an unforgettable way...so, from
there we all head to the Aragon....we pick up our *Soundgarden Guest Passes*
Erin was super professional about the whole experience...very nice, just a
really genuinely neat person...we were taken backstage to meet them in two
seperate groups...i went with the first group which consisted of: Eliza
*love ya chickidee*, Toni, Rita, Kathie, Dave *Mr. Kathie*, Monnica, Kate,
Jamie, and Candy...when we first got backstage we were sort of hustled to
the side because the *guys* had been watching Tenderloin play...after the
Tenderloin set they went to their dressing room to meet us...to get there
they had to walk past us...Chris is beautiful, i have never been as
entralled with Chris as others...but that man is beautiful...and altho there
was concern for his weight loss etc.. i think it need not be a concern any
more...yes, he is thin but he looks very healthy...Ben is enormous...god
that man is tall...so, anyway, that was just them walking by very quickily,
but even still they made eye contact and Matt waved and said hi...so, then
we were taken up to their dressing room...Kim came out first, he walked his
way down the line somewhat quickly, tho he did let me run my fingers thru
his hair, (i have a hair fettish...if curious, very nice hair, soft, silky,
well taken care of)...tho admittedly he did give me a "god what a weirdo you
are look"...then came Chris...did i mention that he is beautiful??? Kathie,
met him first, i wont steal her glory so ill let her tell her story...Lize
was next, again she can tell her story...i was next...he shoke my hand, we
exchange intros...his poor hands were frigged and i said "honey, your hands
are so cold" and i sorta held mine around them and pulled them close
me...*sigh*...he said "they are?" hehe...yes i am gonna post his every word
to me, can you blame me? so, he signs his autograph for me and i dont know
what exactly was said next, but the next words out of my mouth were, "no,
but id sure like to lick Matt" chris just looks at me with this huge grin
and says "i dont mind at all it you lick him" i know at some point i am
gonna be mortified that i said that...but so far not...so then i get to meet
Matt *sigh*...he is every bit as beautiful as i have always thought...then
they continue to makes their rounds thru the group...Ben never came out for
our group...towards the end of meeting Chris turns to Matt and says "so,
Matt, did you ever get licked?" Matt just sorta grins....then Chris looks
at me and says, "he lets me lick him all the time" *sigh* god thats
something id love to see *grin*..so...i did get to tell Chris and Matt how
much i appreciated their music and what a big influence the band has had on
my life...oh, before i forget...the very first thing Matt said when he
walked in the room was "where is Seth" he looked so excited that he was
going to be meeting Seth...i think that is so neat...Matt also said that we
were their true fans...*we* meaning the list as a whole...not the group in
chicago...i kinda sorta had that feeling of pride at being associated at all
with this list...even tho i dont entirely agree that we are the only true
fans...cause not everyone has internet access, but it was a really nice
thing to say...Matt, also seemed surprised at some of the of the obsure
albums and stuff that people wanted signed...so that ends my segment of the
big meeting...from there we were ushered out and the next group brought
in...i talked to Erin for a bit and she said that what we got was very
unusual...that the meet/greet thingy that radio contest winners and the like
get is very different than what we got...she said that no one ever gets to
go into the dressing room like we did, nor do they get to chit chat for a
few like this...so for that i am very indebted to silver management for
making this possible for us and for bringing Seth to us as well...the whole
group was able to watch the show from the backstage/balcony area...sorta the
whole VIP thing there as well...however Eliza, Biff *wow!!! what a cutie*
braved the pitt anyway...for me, alot of my enjoyment is in the energy of
the crowd and i really wanted to be in it...the pit was as bad, but not
worse than any i have been in...bad at times, tolerable at
others...basically, just being aware of your surroundings is the best
survival skill to use...that, and Eliza and i stayed toward the fringes, yet
still close enough to really have a great view...as for the show itself...i
cant remember the entire setlist and i am sure others will contribute that
anyway...the most incredible part to me was just how much fun they appeared
to be having...Chris was playful on stage...he smiled alot and really looked
to be enjoying himself...he and Ben smiled at each other alot and played
around a bit...Ben was Ben...brash, rude, confrontational...he was Ben...he
made obscene jestures towards the more redneckier people in the crowd...but
in retrospect it was kinda funny...crude, but funny...funny mainly i think
because the rednecks thought he was encouraging them, but i think really the
case was more than he was making fun of their stupid behaviour...they played
Rusty Cage...and before playing Chris dedicated it to Johnny Cash...now,
that really is my fave released song of theirs...and the dedication was
cool...but, to add to it all...i got to share it with a very special
friend...Eliza...it was really almost emotional having such a great friend
there with me, that totally understood the whole soundgarden thing...thanks
Liza...they did a decent mix of BMF, SU, and DOTU...with a cover of helter
skelter...Kim brought his dad out on stage and introduced him...that was
neat...and that man is short...Kim did not get his height from pop...still,
it was cool that we got to see his dad...Kim was grinning from ear to
ear...i took pics of the show and of the group in general...hopefully some
will turn out good enough to scan...after approval from the list people that
are in the pics...looking forward to hearing more reviews...

thanks to Kathie for having the initiative to contact silver...thanks silver
and erin for making this possible and thanks toni and rita...

all from me...

DeeDee....the *ok, so im not really a* southernbelle..

Subject: Blowup the Inside Mosh Pit & Other Savory Controversies

I may have pissed some people off about my comments regarding mosh pits
(probably because I have never been in one), but. . .

. . .I discussed mosh pits with some of my employees who like Carcass,
Korn, Pantera, Type O-Negative, etc. They disagreed with me that mosh
pits should be banned. They said that some bands/music inherently need
mosh pits to get the full effect of the band/music. OK. . .I gave them
the benefit of the doubt on that one. B U T . . .they also said that it
WAS NOT cool to beat the spleen out of someone while moshing. I agreed
wholeheartedly. They agreed with me that it's stupid to pay a lot of
cash to see a band and have to stay far away from them to avoid being
killed. So I amend my prior statement. . .I guess mosh pits are fine as
long as people aren't being killed and trampled to death. Not that I'm
an authority on the subject or that my opinion matters all that much. .
.but it IS just that. My opinion.

Has anyone else had problems downloading JCP video? Lemme know what I
can do (It took my piece o'shit Packard Bell 4 HOURS to download!)

Anyway. . .I'm looking forward to the compilation! See ya!

By "old" pictures I assume you are talking about pictures taken between
maybe 1988 and 1992? I thought Chris was beautiful with long hair and
the short hair took a little while to get used to, but I like it now.
Personally I don't look the same as I did 5 or 6 years ago, do you? I
think Chris' hair suits who he is now, and from what I've read, the long
hair wasn't really his style even then. After being right next to him
last night (which I will write about after I've recovered a bit) I can
tell you he is just fine the way he is.

Subject: Just A Thought On Chris' Hair.....

Hey All You Peoples Out There In SOMMSland,
I was just watching Louder Than Live and what caught my eye, other than
Chris' hair was long, was that Chris had a clean shave, and then I watched
JCP and he had his facial fuzz. I did like Chris' hair when it was long(and
it is a shame that he, a man, got blessed with such beautiful locks)and I
like it equally now that it is short(do you think he has to do anything to
get his hair to stand on end like that), but, to me, he looks most different
when he lacks his face fuzz. I don't know if anyone out there agrees but
that is just my opinion. Oh, the weirdest part about Louder Than Live is
when they are singing I Awake and Chris lies on the ground and Jason got on
top of him and they proceeded to do some really weird things. And for anyone
who has seen the Hands All Over video; what do you think of it? Give me some
input because I think it is a lame video concept. Well, if I look on the
bright side, you get to see: Chris swing his gorgeous locks around, the
whole band act like monkeys, them blow things up, and them break things. But
if I look on the downside(no pun intended): the video is really stupid. But
hey, who can complain as long as it's SOUNDGARDEN!! Am I right? Plus, they
have moved on to better video concepts. Sorry to ramble on!!!! BYE! Hugz &

nope that isnt a rare CD...find it most anywhere...and cheaply too...but i
agree that is a cool song...

however, i most emphatically do not agree that the dead sucked...and i hope
youll listen and take to heart what i say...first i do not and never have
liked the style of music the dead did...it just doesnt appeal to
me...however, to so they sucked isnt fair...give them credit where credit is
due...a totally unique band with longevity almost unsurpassed in the
industry...how many bands have the kind of following they have/had?
none...not even our boys in SG have that kind of listener loyalty...and i
think that is to be commended...not critisized...
if you are the musician you claim to be then you should recall a little
thing between musicians, and that is respect...and not slamming a fellow
band for their musical talents...for example, last night at the chicago
show, thru tenderloins entire set, Chris, Matt and Ben watched from
backstage...i didnt like tenderloin...thought they were obnoxious...and the
crowd didnt seem to entralled either...nonetheless, SG watched....and when
the crowd booed rocket from the crypt...during SG's show, Chris had
something to say about that as well...it shows respect...so, while you might
not like the dead, i think that you should at least respect them, because
they had/have talent...regardless of how much you like their style...

well, silentjoe and I got our tickets, plus the two that you
wanted lee. I was thinking of flying the coop with your $80 nothingman
style, but I just couldn't go through with it. too honest, I guess :)

the walk into town at about 3 am was interesting, and really
didn't take very long. neither did the four and a half hour wait for the
ticket booth to open, which surprised me because the wait for pumpkin
tickets seemed to eat up a lot more time. I was kind of interested in
talking to all the other people in the line just to see what they had to
say for themselves, but they were generally asleep or something similar.
silentjoe (thus named for his transformation from a moderate poster into a
superlurker) also had a short nap, but I felt fine despite only two hours
sleep.

the only thing that concerned me this morning is that tickets to
the lounge (an area in festival hall which is directly in front of the
stage but elevated and set back about 30 meters from said stage) were not
on sale. I was originally going to sit up there (for *perfect* view of the
show, I might add), but I had to settle for standing tickets in general
admission. I'd rather sit, but unless I want to sit to the side of the
stage...

anyhow, there were plenty of people lined up for tickets, and the
prospects for a sell-out seem good. any other australian lurkers bought
their ticks yet? and are the shows selling for around $38? and have there
been many people lining up and buying? carolyn? mandy? have you bought
your's yet?

btw, the butow single should be out here in oz next monday (nov.
18), end of the week at the latest. look for it in your local record bar
where all authorised soundgarden merchandise is sold :)
