Well, I can't sleep. I feel like a fucking little kid on Christmas eve. SG is
2 days away and I can't believe I'm so fucking excited to meet them that I
can't even sleep. (I'm almost 30 years old for Crissakes)

Anyway, while I'm up I thought I'd throw out a question:

here goes

In the opening lines of "Overfloater" Chris sings "Stuck inside and up all
night at Dave's"

QUESTION: What the hell or who the hell is Dave?

Just a question from a raving insommniac.

O.K., not really. But during MTV's 30 minute plug of the new Romeo and

the movie. Has anyone seen the new flick? Is JCP part of the soundtrack
for the film, or was this the just the working of someone at MTV. (Maybe
someone who thinks it was stupid for MTV to ban the video...)

I heard it also. I was working in another room when I heard the music and
came running just to see. It was the show about Romeo and Juliet. I think
MTV just likes that song(not the video). I have heard it used before on
shows. My friend, Rita was watching MTV last night with my daughter(She
isn't suppose to watch MTV but I wasn't home) when the BUTOW came on. She
said they had a short talk with Chris on. Said he had Red and blue not black
and looked pretty good. Didn't get it on tape because my Soundgarden tape
that is suppose to stay in the VCR at all times when no one is watching a
movie(rule #1 concerning VCR) was not in there having been replaced by "The

Hello everyone. This is my first posting. Just returned to work from
maternity leave. (It's been nice to see some other mothers are
posting). I have a couple questions:

1.	Can I still obtain one of the SOMMS T-shirts and if so what do I
need to do?
2.	Are there people going to the Sunday show in Chicago? This will be
my first time to see them since the original Lallapalooza tour. (Was
a little too pregnant to survive a mosh pit this year) I'd love to
hear from anyone going to 11/10 show.

I must also note that I think Chris looks a bit on the thin side in
the BOTOW video.

Someone asked me the other day what I would want it to say on my
gravestone. My reply was "Alive in the Superunknown" .

I have been on the list for about 3 months now, but never had the guts to
write to the digest. But it is a special reason. I just got tickets for
the Austin show in Tejas!!! It's the first time I will see them in
concret and I know it's going to kick ass!!!
The other reason I wrote was to express my feeling on BOTOW video. I
personally think it was one of the most artistic, abstract, and beautiful
video that Soundgarden has made (That one and" Fell on Black Days ") I
love the touch of surrealism it had.I think Chris was haveing a little
bit of the " old ultravoilence "!!!

One last thing. I would also pay good money to have the collection of all
the Soundgarden videos!!! Soundgarden por vida!!!

        Hey

 1) eMpTyV finally played BUTOW for me!!! I was so excited...and they
played it at MIDNIGHT (Central Standard Time, US...maybe not exactly 12:00,
but I was a tad inebriated) on Halloween! How cool can you get? If they
played it a few more times, they might redeem themselves for sucking.
Canadian SOMMSters or anybody with a DSS...does Much Music play more SG than
MTV? If they did, I could stop watching MTV for good and finally stop
bitching about it. :)

 2) My friend from the UK mentioned that people don't really Mosh at shows
over there, they mostly just jump, which is also what happens at local shows
in my area. I don't know about the Brits, but I've been in both types of
crowds and I'd have to say that substituting jumping for getting your head
kicked in is a really good fucking idea. Not only is it safer, but it's
tons-o-fun, and you don't get all exhausted just trying to have a good time.
Besides, at bigger shows, you get this really cool wave effect in the crowd.
There is a good example of this in G-n-r's Paradise City video if you
haven't selectively blocked it from your memory ;-p Anyway I vote that we
should direct our collective crowd energy in that direction (the vertical
one, ha!) and we might all have a better concert experience.

Speaking of voting, I hope everyone eligible remembers (rememberED) to do so.

Hi, I have seen the BUTOW video twice now. I couldn't believe it at
frist but Chris is in a symblolic Jesus Christ Pose, notice at the end
where if you look at the shadow on the floor it looks just like a
cross n someone being on that cross. That was really far out because
the shadow is coming into that room were they are not going out like
it should, depending wear the light is. Maybe I have just been studing
shadows too long.(or maybe I am just confused.) I think somehow SG
vidoes are being linked to other SG videos. But this may just be my
pyscho weird opinion, but as I see it there are alot of things related
in Bimh you see that tree light on fire n Chris looks as if he has
some kind of telepathic type power n he did it with his mind in BUTOW
he seems to blow up the the screen those doctor or whoever they are
are forcing him to look at. Some people say Why the hell do they have
chris in a chair. Well it could be they are testing him for telepathic
powers or maybe becuz he did kill that girl in the PN video somehow it
all links together for me. But this is just all my warped point of
veiw. I was just wondering if any one noticed the shadow on the floor?

Hehe michele, that is something I was thinking about asking Erin when we

1. What is the deal with the bugs?

2. Does BiMH have anything to do with that awful murder in CA that Dena told

3. Who has the sci-f space fetish?

4. Will Chris autograph my shirt while I am wearing it?!?!?!?

No, Brian's not in Hater anymore. From reliable sources, I guess the

He WAS at the show, though. Like Aaron said, he likes to show up at Hater

guy in the band called Allen (who plays bass). No, I have no information
other than that. But I DO know that Brian wasn't the guy that Ben beat the
crap out of. I was told the guys name, but as my short term memory is shot

show up to shows like that ('cuz they can do it incognito), but Chris bailed

PART 2
Transcribed and edited (this one I had to) by (Stephanie Valahovic) from
imusics
rebroadcast (in R.A. at 28,000 BPS) The transcript features Kim Thayil,
and his
viewpoints on: Political Borders

Intoduction: "Kim Thayil of Soundgarden also talks about the
environmental big picture and what he believes is causing many of the
problems facing the planet, he talks of political boarders and
environmental boarders and how individuals can get involved in solving
some of these issues."

Kim Thayil: "I suppose as U.S. citizens we can watch our buying and
consumption habits but, the more U.S., international, multi-national
industries have to find other markets to make up the slack, if we are
not able to buy a certain products or allowed to use a certain
products or produce a certain products , theyll produce them in Korea
or Mexico. Large corporations and industries like that are not going to
want to be told what they can and can not sell. If that happens
repeatedly, then certain chemical products that are or not allowed to
be sold or produced or utilized here, theyll manufacture them in
Mexico or another third world country. National boarders are just that
national boarders, political boarders not environmental boarders.
Whether we control how we protect our environment here in the U.S. or
whether we are able to control that, is not going to leave us free us
free of that kind of contamination. When we export our waste or
contamination
to neighboring countries or to other nations or in the ocean, its one
world and regardless of multi-boarders or political boarders, we are
still going to have to deal with the consequences of anything form
radiation leaks to nuclear testing. oil spills, and/or various
chemical toxic waste that is dumped in the oceans, lakes or into the
soil. Political boarders we have between countries only stand upwards
air edge as far as air travel systems. Our air is not bound to the shape
of the U.S. just over our heads. We definitely have to face the
consequences of air pollution at the other end of the world.
Its one thing to learn about the environment, but also you need to
learn about biology and ecosystems, maybe zoology. If your not going to
be educated by biological sciences or about the environmental issues
then it would be a good idea to educate oneself about trade,
international trade, economic polices, political polices, regulation of
trade, because allot of this has to do with environmental quality
issues."

Subject: sg at Planet Hollywood

Hi everybody,
I just returned from my Seattle trek, too. Unfortunately, I was not
organized enough to plan to meet everybody - sounds like a good time was had
by all [except those victims of the pit at Hater :( I had fully intended to
go see Hater but jet lag got the best of us - we arrived in Seattle about
noon (having gotten up at 4am) and went to the hotel for a nap before the
show. Well I went to sleep at 6pm and didn't wake up until 530 the next
morning!!! You have to remember that KY is 3 hours later. Oh well on to the
point of my post. We tried to go to the Sonics game on Sat night (their home
opener) but literally could not find a parking place and finally gave up
after driving around for an hour. So the next night we went to Planet
Hollywood and the guy at the shirt counter was telling me about the celebs
who had been there (Stallone and Bruce Willis when it opened, etc) and the
night before they had a party for the Sonics and a lot of sports celebs
showed up and members of Alice in Chains and Soundgarden!!! Am I a day late
and a dollar short or what? I just had a feeling that they might show up at
the game since they're such big fans. I drove by the office of Silver mgmt.
several times, and got an interview disc at the Subpop mega mart, however, I
know I missed many sg landmarks.

Also, at the risk of being a copycat, I'm thinking of contacting Silver Mgmt.
about passes for us listmembers who are going to the Atlanta show. So what
do you think and how many of you are going?

just wondering if anyone has bought the soundgarden interview cd I
saw in a record store yesterday. it is a picture disc, and contains a
small poster and guitar pick (the company's name is on the tip of my
tongue, but I just can't quite get it out). the cd itself was sealed, so I
couldn't inspect the contents, but the girl behind the counter agreed with
me that the pick would probably just have "soundgarden" stamped on it in
some fashion. has anyone picked it up? I'm interested in what the
interview has to say for itself.

btw, if any brisbane listers or lurkers will be lining up early on
monday morning for tickets to see you-know-who at festival hall (they go
on sale at 9am), I'll be somewhere near the head of the queue, probably
sporting a white jimi hendrix shirt (if nothingdick had ever come through

Subject: Moshing...

I haven't been on the list in a while, and when I come back I see
all this negativity about moshing. Personally, I like moshing but I can
totally see where everyone is coming from.
Last week, I saw Korn at the Electric Factory in Philly (same place
I'll see SG). The show was great but the crowd was at least 80% assholes,
and they kind of ruined it for my friends. This is what you have to
understand about moshing. It is these macho, motherfuckers who get in there
and start throwing elbows and trying to hurt people. These are the people
who don't let anyone up off the floor or out of the pit. They don't get it.
Moshing, in its essence, is just a way to get into the music. It isn't just
for guys, it isn't about trying to hurt people. It is rough, and no one
should be forced into it. And, you can see the show, because most people go
in and out of the pit, and more than likely spend more time out watching the
show. Trust me, you'd have to be Superman to mosh for the entire show.
To sum up, at the Korn show, myself and the guys around me were
going out of our way helping people out of the pit and off of the floor.
Most people are like this. On the other hand, it seems as more younger
punks start showing up at the shows, they don't understand what the music is
about and understand even less what the scene (including moshing) is about.
These are the ones who show up to hurt people. If you think moshing is
about hurting anyone or yourself, stay out of the pit or, better yet, stay
home. If this applies to anyone on here, do me and the true Sg fans in
Philly a favor, PLEASE don't come on Nov. 21. Go lift weights or do
something constructive with your strength.

That's it, kiddies. I'm sure SOMEBODY must know Allen's last name, but I'll
be darned if I can remember it.

>2. what was the performance like? (a setlist would be great)

The show was AMAZING! Ben makes an EXCELLENT frontman, and his vocals
were terrific. Other than the moshing and Ben/Caryn incident... I'd have to
say that it was one of the best shows I've ever seen. Hater definitely puts
on one hell of a show. As to the setlist, Vikki managed to snag it...
complete with Ben spit and everything. I imagine it might be kinda crusty by
now. ;-) Ewww!! That was SICK, Shroomy. Sorry about that, kiddies.
Ummm... they only played a few songs from the album. Most of the material
was new stuff, which I thought was great. There were a bunch of us screaming
for "Sad McBain" but Matt wouldn't oblige us... damn him. Also, I *KNOW*
there was a cover song in there somewhere... but I can't remember what it
was. I could have sworn that it was on the Backbeat Band soundtrack. Can
someone help me out with this? I know most of us were busy trying to kill or
be killed, but I'd really like to know what song that was. (BTW, yes they
did play "Who Do I Kill?"... and it was fucking GREAT!!)

I didn't ask Matt if he still reads the digest, or not... damn ME. But
I did ask him if that was him on the cover of "Donny Desmond's Pubert Love"
in Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. He said (and I quote)... "Nope!"
Heheheh... it was really groovy meeting him. He introduced me to Stuart
Hallerman, who was alot of fun talking to. (Check your liner notes to Louder
Than Love to find out who he is.)

One last note to everyone who's going to the SOMMS/SG meeting this
weekend... DON'T FORGET TO TOUCH CHRIS FOR ME!!! I don't care if it's just
his hand (although if you get a chance to fondle his shoulder or something,
that would be really cool)... I WANT A FULL REPORT!! Heheheh... damn, y'all
are smooth! Well, someday I'll get to meet the man. I might have to go all
the way back up to Seattle to do it, though. ;-) Well, there's always
Spring Break I guess.  They'll be off tour by then, I'm sure.  {S stalk}

Also check out half of Sg's b-sides since then. He's had a hand in recording
them live & in studio in just about every era of Soundgarden (LtL-era,
Bmf-era, Super-era). Anyway... sorry for the boring bit of trivia.

I'm actually glad to hear that. I don't like the songs that Wood sings on
the record. His vocals just annoy me. I normally just skip to the songs
that Ben (& Matt) sings. Hopefully the new Hater record (did anyone confirm
it's release date) will feature Ben on vocals only. Well... if Matt got the
guts to sing on another "track" I wouldn't mind either.

good call, ray. brian wood easily wins my award for "most
annoying vocal performance on the hater record"; that being his little
adjunct at the end of 'blistered' (when the song changes abruptly).
believe me, I *love* the roll matt does there at the end, where he makes
use of just about his entire kit (which conflicts mightily with the rest
of the album, btw). but when ben hands the microphone to brian and he
cranks up that nasal "torn my soul apart...", I wince every time.

come to think of it, most of my favourite songs off the hater
record are sung by ben (circles being my current favourite). the only
song sung by brian that I genuinely shake my booty to is 'roadside', which
seems to be the only one where he isn't shaking his own booty like some
seattle-version of axl rose. but perhaps that is because of that
ultra-cool riff ben worked up for the song :)

so now that he is out of the band, my best guess is that ben will
do the lion's share of singing on the next record. of course, that only
works if they record it in the same way (if you write the lyrics, you sing
on the song). perhaps the drummer will sing on a couple of tracks from
the impending wwc record...?

fyi, matt has actually sung 'sad mcbain' *live*, when hater was
playing support to pearl jam a couple of years ago. he was nervous, but
the crowd's chant of "eddie, eddie" took away from the overall
performance :)

I would strongly advise that anyone who is planning to do this think
twice. It's miraculous enough that Silver Management even acknowledged
this list in the first place, and even more amazing that they agreed
to set something up specifically for list members.

I'm very much of the opinion that we shouldn't push our luck. I
imagine they have more than enough to do right now without people
asking for more favors. If people write and say "You did it for the
Chicago shows, why won't you do it for X?" they're more likely to get
annoyed than to start granting all kinds of access to people all over
the world just for the sake of being "fair."

Just my opinion.
