excuse me? isn't this a gross generalization? not to mention an insult to
every woman on this list. as one of the women at the front of the crowd, i
was there to experience the music. so were my friends. there was no
screaming and no prostration. i think your adolescent fantasies deceive you.

you're implying that that is the only choice? why is it that if women are
down front they have to be screaming? this really confuses me, as i've never
screamed in the manner you are describing in my life. i don't know any
women who have.

no, you're wrong. those people who have RESPECT for their fellow
concert-goers and are not concerned with causing as much damage and harm as
possible *are* MORE ENTITLED to be there than those that are there to fuck
shit up. period. "freedom" does not include the freedom to cause harm to
others.

that means I spent five years at FSU so I guess that means I'm pretty

I can't believe this, I don't know about the rest of the list, but Ben
USED TO BE my fav member. I mean Soundgarden has easily become
my favorite band, but I am so shocked at this I am speechless. They
should have cared what was going on. And the fact that Ben owns the
club makes it that much worse.

>we are the kind of fans a band really WANTS at the end of the day

This is truly a terrible, sad situation. Caryn, "Steal the warm wind tired
friend." Every SOMMSter should ask themselves, "What kind of people
make up this band?" Ben was WAY out of line.

Subject: Attention Chicago show-goers
From: seth <saperl@MIT.EDU>

As most (or all) of you already know, all mailing list members
attending the Chicago shows will be meeting the band if they want,
thanks to Kathie [see the SOMMS digest of 10/25 for details].

<shaking fist at Chicago show-goers>

Anyway, in some correspondence with Erin of Silver Management, she
mentioned the Chicago show get-together and mentioned that she still
doesn't have a complete list of the REAL NAMES of everyone who is
attending. She says that in order to make sure that backstage/whatever
passes are left for everyone at the ticket counter, she must have your
REAL FULL NAMES, not just your email addresses or nicknames.

So, if you want to meet the band in Chicago, please email Kathie RIGHT
NOW (oponfam@cnsnet.com) with your full first and last name so you can
be on the list. It would probably be a good idea to bring ID to the
show as well.

And have fun, everyone.

ya know, i really LOVE posts like this. demeaning younger members of
SOMMS and telling us what and how we think and do things. personally,
i am 17. does that make any difference in my appreciation for SG? no,
why in hell should it?
and moshing is the biggest fuck up that the music industry ever
created. it's annoying, and it totally disctracts me and takes away
from the concerts. it's really really bad when people are surfing to
"big me" by the foo fighters and yr worrying about getting kicked in
the head by some nazi-boy there only because tickets were $5 and they
need to fufill their injuries to others for the night. it's really
bad.
and this is totally sad that you compare moshing to Football. okay,
one is a regulated, professional SPORT. the other is NOT a sport and
serves only to injure and piss off everyone around you. how can you
compare an organized sport to moshing? it just doesn't connect in any
way...
ooh, big you, yr 40? man, that really makes me feel like less of a
person and less of a fan. give me a break, huh? there is no seniority
when it comes to musical appreciation and there shouldn't be any of
ths shit on SOMMS either.
if you'd like yr note spell checked, use the functions on yr
computer like any other human. a 17 year old is not yr secretary, nor
are we yr plaything. so fuck off.

far have been rude and disrespectful.

wrong again, asshole. the people you ATTACKED are your age or older. many

use as a point earlier.

no, they were warranted, and no, you haven't discredited them. you're not
the oldest, and NONE of us are impressed by college degreees in ANY subject.
your statements were offensive. doesn't matter what school you went to or
how old you are.

NO THEY ARE NOT! football is a sport. some people may consider it a stupid
sport, but those gentlemen are on a playing field with other paid

possible. get real.

the discussion was never friendly. and i don't think it was a 15 year old
who made the point, dickhead. have you bothered to go check out the member
directory? i don't think so. and BESIDES WHICH, age has nothing to do with

CAMERON TO PLAY SCHOLARSHIP CONCERT

Soundgarden's Matt Cameron will be in New York this weekend,
performing as part of the prestigious 1996 Buddy Rich Memorial
Scholarship Concert. Scheduled to take place Sunday, November 3 at
Manhattan Center, Cameron will also be joined by musicians Billy
Cobham, John "JR" Robinson, Sonny Emory, David Caribaldi and several
others. All proceeds from the evening will go to benefit the Buddy
Rich Memorial Scholarship Program.

In a career that spanned seven decades, Buddy Rich established himself
as a drumming legend. After his death in 1987, Rich's daughter Cathy
started the Scholarship Program as a way to give aspiring young
musicians who might not otherwise have the opportunity, a chance to go
on to college and promote the Performing Arts. Since its inception,
the annual award has helped many artists pursue their dreams.
According to Rich, her father Buddy was a generous man who firmly
believed that a person should give something back to the community.
Each year, with the support of artists like Matt Cameron, the Buddy
Rich Memorial Scholarship Concert does just that.

In other Soundgarden-related news, the MTV world premiere of the "Blow
Up The Outside World" video will take place Friday, Nov. 1 at 1 am.
After that, the video will air at 6:00 am, 8:00 am, 2:30 pm, 4:00 pm,
6:30 pm and 10:00 pm. To see it on Sunday, check out "120 Minutes." On
Monday, the video will go into heavy rotation.

Subject: moshing squashing fopping n bopping

Hi
I have some comments on the following:
Moshing. Isn't there a happy solution for everyone here? I think
people should have their freedom at concerts but to the point where
people start getting their faces smashed, teeth knocked out, getting
beat the crap out of ect. If this is your idea of fun I think you are
in the wrong place, you should be at the gym you need to go take up
boxing or something. I just don't think it is fair espeacially thoose
idiots who just goto concerts to mosh n don't seem to care who is
playing. When the true fans are trying to watch the band but instead
have to watch from being kicked in the head. Maybe they should get a
trampolene for you all to jump on if you have that much engery. Maybe
they should make it like seame place like provide balls you can in
jump n you can all kill each other away from the people that would
like to keep their teeth. Hell, why don't you all just get hammers n
knock each other teeth out before the show?
So does this mean maybe I should wear a helmet to my next show? Maybe
we (us people who would like to keep our teeth) need some gear like a
body suits, yeah new merchandise.....(yes, I am being sarcastic.) I
sure if the bands can stand up their watching the crowd beat the crap
out of each n not say anything we could come up with something
nonvolient. That just makes me wonder do the bands really care about
their fans? Or are they in like Mr.Poneman(Sub-Pop) once stated
playing for the money n only the money?
Look people my point being is yes moshing is ok as long as it is kept
under control but when rights start getting voliated that is when we
must step in before the venues do n say hey to keep this a freedom, We
are going to keep it under control. I think I got my point across.
Together we stand divided we fall.

Black Hole Sun

Superunknown
Jesus Christ Pose
Rusty Cage
