Subject: My thoughts on a SG Unplugged

Everyone keeps going on about how SG may or may not do an eMpTyV Unplugged,
AIC did one yadda yadda ya.

My thoughts: If SG did decide to do an Unplugged session, it would be on
their terms. IE they would not even consider talking to MTV. Is it really
that hard to book a concert hall, tell people they are going to do this
unplugged thing, sit down with some guitars and drums and play?

I don't know, if I am crazy, just tell me, bu the only was I see SG doing
an unplugged is by themselves.

                Greg

PS I wonder what Outshined would sound like unplugged?

Hi,

I realize that the DOTU book is out and was wondering if anyone has it.
Since the tabs on seth's page are so good, I'm not going to go out and
spend 20 bucks on it, BUT...
No one seems to have transcribed "Switch Opens." If someone could tab it
out, or send me anything, I'd appreciate it. Private response please.

Subject: Good news and a SOMMS shirt--all in one day!

Friday was truly the most excellent Soundgarden day! I arrive at work
bright and early, check my email only to learn that I get to meet
Soundgarden! Fortunately I was the only one in the office at the time so
nobody witnessed me jumping around and squealing like a fool!

Then, later that day as I am leaving my house, the first song that comes
on the car radio is FOBD. I take this as a good omen. I stop at my
mailbox and lo and behold, there is my SOMMS shirt! I drive off, weaving
from side to side as I rip open the package with Soundgarden blaring
away on the radio. I had my dog in the car with me and he kept trying
to lay on my new shirt so I had to hide it from him. Yes, even my dog is
a SG fan. The shirt looks great!! Thanks to Dena for all her hard work!
And thanks to Seth and anyone else involved in the design!

Dena, you certainly earned your vacation in Seattle! I can picture you
and Shroom, under cover of darkness, crouching in the shrubs outside the
Cornell home. "Susan, did you hear something out in the yard? Maybe I
should get the flashlight and check it out?" "No, Chris, you-know-who
is in town! You let me handle this."

Chicago, here I come! Toni, didn't you mention something about some
naked dancing CC look alikes that you have lined up for our viewing
pleasure?

of the Seattle SOMMSters! I love ALL OF THEM! I want to take them all home
with me! And guess what else?!?
I MET HIRO!!! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!! Ryan and Vikki snagged the Truly
set list for me, and Ryan went with me to get Hiro to SIGN IT!!!
AAAUUUUGGHHH!!! I TOUCHED HIRO!! I TALKED TO HIRO!! Man, I was so jazzed
after I talked to him the first time!! My eyes kept watering, and I was just
going fucking nuts! It's so odd! I've met 'rock stars' before... but not
SOUNDGARDEN, y'know?!? And Hiro is JUST THE BEGINNING!! Heheheh... Matt and
Ben are next!!
I love Seattle, and I don't wanna go home. Don't get me wrong... I love
Dallas, and I think that it has one of the BEST music scenes in the world
right now... but this city is too fucking GORGEOUS! Even the seedy parts of
town are beautiful. If I could move Trees up here, I would MOVE HERE AND
NEVER LEAVE AGAIN. Heheheh... I'm sure that Silver Mgmt is just loving this.
"Don't let that hootchie back into the city!!" Did I mention that we went

Sabrina asked for opinions on Soundgarden covering other people's songs...

The only cover version I have seen them do live was Waiting For The Sun, at
Reading, which was great. Didn't Chris, Kim and Hiro do Doors covers in The
Shemps? Maybe this one was of them.

Favourite cover version on record has to be Fopp. It makes me laugh.

Worst - Touch me. I don't know who it was by and why they covered it, but
if they wanted to sound raunchy they failed miserably. And I am speaking as
someone who would usually find Chris singing the multiplication tables sexy!

And I have to agree that Alice Cooper made a complete ballsup of Chris'
songs on The Last Temptation. Early Alice was great, but these days the guy
should stick to golf!

Hey List!

While searching the web, I found this on somebody's site. It's a complete
list of SG cover songs! I know for a fact that not all of these songs were
performed in their entirety; so I've put a * next to those that were
included as a snippet inside some other song (Hands All Over, Slaves and
Bulldozers etc). Since I've heard all but three of these...I'd say the
best cover version was "Into the Void (Sealth)". It is physically and
emotionally impossible to play this song loud enough. Coming in a close
second for reason describe above is "Communication Breakdown". To me this
sums up the early SG experience; Loud, Sloppy and Music for your Soul. As
for the worst...I'd have to say "One Minute of Silence" since they
obviously stole the idea from John Cage's 4:33 and they forgot to include
Yoko's part.

VIII. Cover Songs:

AC-DC - Problem Child
*Beatles - Hey Jude
Beatles - Come Together
Beatles - Helter Skelter

*Alice Cooper - Eighteen
Devo - Girl U Want
*Doobie Brothers - Jesus Is Just Alright
The Doors - Waiting For The Sun
*The Doors - Roadhouse Blues
Fancy - Touch Me
Fear - I Don't Care About You
Green River - Swallow My Pride

If any of you know what program I should get and where I should get it, I would

Hi
I've been lurking on the list for months now, but I finally have a
question. I saw sg at lolla in '92 at Montage Mountain in PA, and they
did a cover of Cop Killer by Body Count. Did they do this frequently
back then, or was this a unique night? Does anyone have a bootleg of
it? Also, I went to see Blind Melon and Neil Young a couple of years
ago at the Garden State Theater (I'm not sure if that's what the place
was really called- it's an outdoor amphitheater in New Jersey), and to
my great surprise, Soundgarden made an unannounced appearance and played
a whole set. The set included some stuff from bmf and ltl, but most
importantly, stuff from su that hadn't been released yet, which really
made my day (particularly since I couldn't have cared less about Neil
Young-- sorry). Was anyone else there or know anything about that show?
Any bootlegs?

Also, I got my stuff from Dena yesterday, and it looks great! I'll be
wearing the shirt to the Electric Factory in Phila!

I totally agree, at lollapollza I only got to see half of soundgarden
because a bunch of rednecks would stop moshing werever I went. I had to
fight my way out, then I watch 5 minites and start fighting again it
sucked. Soundgarden I wanted to watch play, not big rednecks. I missed all
of metalica because of this.
Nothing against moshing though, just when the band is good I like to watch.

Subject: Fairfax show & Amazing MPEGs at Seth's Site

Hey everybody, I just resubscribed to the list yesterday and its been a
few months since I posted here last summer. Got tickets to see SG at the
Fairfax, Virginia show on the Nov. 20th and this show will *definitely*
be better than the 7/16/96 lolla show in Charles Town! Just wondering if
there's going to be a SOMMS meeting or a SOMMS Fest type of thing going
on at the Fairfax show?? Please let me know, it would be really cool to
meet and hang out other people from this list!

Anyways, after leaving the computer on for nearly eight hours, I finally
finished downloading the ENTIRE 17 megabyte MPEG movie of Jesus Christ
Pose from seth's web site and man it is fucking amazing! I'd never seen
the video before since MTV had banned in 1991 and after viewing it I
have to say this is the best Soundgarden video ever made. The quality of
the MPEG movie is excellent. Thanks to Geoff Kleemola for digitizing
this video, it was definitely worth his effort and time. I also got the
live video of Birth Ritual from "Singles" which was also pretty cool.
The video page at seth's web site has an excellent collection of clips,
so anyone who has the time should check these movies out!

I finally got the australian version of the burden in my hand single
yesterday at Tower Records and some of these b-sides should have been
included on Down on the Upside. I can't believe that "Bleed Together"
was not put on the album this song absolutely rocks. "Karoake" is
another great song, Matt just goes totally crazy on the drums near the
end. And the demo version of Birth Ritual is the rawest sound that you
can get in an SG song. I hope the new "Blow Up..." singles have the same
great b-sides that the burden single does...

Later,
Siva

That makes sense. Even my husband has asked, "doesn't that music make
you feel tense?" Actually I also use music to release frustration, and
really aggressive music relaxes me (weird as that might sound). Its like
just listening removes the tension. Dancing is good for that too, but
unfortunately I don't do as much of that anymore.

I agree 100%. If the music were only about aggression I wouldn't be
interested. Of course the word aggression doesn't necessarily have to
mean violent lyrics, it could also describe the strength and vitality of
the music. Anyway, I'm definitely a lyric person and respond
particularly stongly to Chris' lyrics. I don't know that I've come
across too many men who can write such emotional lyrics. The first time
I heard Say Hello to Heaven I cried. I had never heard a song describe
the feelings of losing someone you love so perfectly. I think alot of
times both men and women don't take the time to really listen to lyrics.
Thats probably why SG fans, at least those on this list, seem to be so
intelligent and insightful.
