Here's a quick update for those who don't already know about Hater
tickets. They are on sale now --$8 advanced or $10 at the door.
They still have lots available (as of 10/21) and can be purchased at
either the OK Hotel after 5:00 pm or at Cellophane Square in the
University District. See everyone there!!! JEN

Has anyone got the BUTOW single yet? I've seen it for sale for weeks
now in mail order catalogs. I don't know if it was a special order or
what. And in one of the catalogs it said there was a US version. But
there were no B-Sides. Just the LP & edit version of the song. Does
anyone know about that? And is there any word on when the video will
make its premier?

Also, does anyone know if the LA <dec 1?> show is sold out? The one at
Universal Amp? That was the one I was planning on going to. If anyone in
the southland can give me a number to ticketbastard (gotta love that
term) that would be primo. Or if it's sold out and can help me in
finding tix..that would be ruley too.

I was wondering how many different opening acts SG was using on this tour. I
know Rocket From The Crypt is doing most, if not all of the shows, but the
other slot seems to be used by several bands. It was announced that Pond will
be filling the first slot in Seattle. Pond is from Portland, by the way, and
pretty cool live if I remember correctly. Anyways, I was just curious, and

i have only heard songs from SU and DOTU om the radio...being one of those
that discovered SG during the SU era, if i had left it up to the radio i
would have never given them a chance...my first exposure was to BHS and
FOBD, both of which at the time i did not like, of course now i have a
different appreciation for them...especially after hearing chris do BHS solo
at lolla...recently i heard spoonman on the radio...i was so surprised that
i called the radio station and asked the DJ if he ever played pre-SU
stuff...the answer being no of course and leading into a 30 min discussion
on why...the bottom line being that they cater to "24-40 y/o white males"
and that just isnt the kind of music their target audience listens
to...anyway, i do have a point here...even tho the radio only plays the more
popular stuff here, it still gives me a chill to hear it...i guess because,
if only for the commercialized stuff, SG is still getting recognition and i
like that...

on a side note....has any one else noticed that there is a deficite of
female fans, not on the list but in the world in general...it seems like
women just dont get into them like guys do and i wonder why that is...

i bring that up in part because a friend of mine introduced me to his
girlfriend the other day...and to my amazement she is into SG...and not the
new stuff either...she actually *knew* the early stuff, her fave being
BMF...and she *knew* TOTD and the origins of...i was really impressed and
excited to meet another fan...

ok...nuff outta me...everyone have a superfantastic day...think ill go back

This summer a friend's brother's stayed with us and I met his wife for
the first time. I really liked her from the start and late the first
evening she was here she said out of the clear blue,"Do you like Chris with
long hair or short?" I knew she was good people. We watched Soundgarden
videos, drank beer and had a great time!! Too bad she lives far away!
As far as Soundgarden on the radio. One of our stations has free form
friday and will play whatever people request. A couple of Fridays ago I had
one of those mornings when everything went wrong, I had to work on my day
off and I was stuck in traffic on the way to work. I was in a terrible
mood. some caller says, "could you play Rusty Cage by Soundgarden?" My
heart leapt when I heard the opening notes of one of my fave songs. I
swear to you the traffic opened up and I was whizzing along at 65mph head
bangin all the way(OK as much as my old neck muscles can head bang) Once
again the Soundgarden gods had smiled down upon me! toni

I just wanted to congratulate Vicki on what sounded like a most

Thanks for taking the time to share that with us. Also, I checked out
the images you submitted to Seth's web page and I really liked the

in Nov. and was just wondering what type of camera you used. I'm a bit
of a shutterbug myself and thought I might try to smuggle in a camera.
Since it's unlikely that a flash would have been allowed, what film
speed did you use? And don't tell me you used one of those disposable

Hi! No, I'm not Vikki but you asked a question about something I have a
bit of "expertise" on--photographing concerts. It's a great hobby! I'm
going to post this to the list in case any other sommsters want to get brave
and try the old sneak it in approach....which unfortunately has gotten more
difficult!

I love doing it and have (generally) snuck my camera in to venues since the
early 80's. I've shot Sg a few times, but always w/ a photo pass, and yes,
it's no flash, which I hate to use anyway and for the first 3 songs only.

You asked about film speed....in my books, use the FASTEST (ie, highest)
speed of film you can find. For color, if you can still track down 1600, it
works wonders in dark venues, if not then settle for 1000. DO NOT go any
lower if you can help it! 400 just doesn't cut it in these dark venues,
trust me.

I rarely do black and white, but again get thee to a reputable photo
supply place and see what they have if you want B&W. Ilford is a good B&W
film to use if you can track it down, b/c it can be used at any speed! It's
a British film but if you go to an actual camera shop/photo lab they may
carry it.

And if I can offer a few more hints--watch what color of stage lighting
you're shooting in as well. Red lights make photos go black! Green or blue
is OK, try for the spots tho. Set your f-stop as wide as you can, keep an
eye on your light meter tho when shooting and adjust a bit for brighter lights.

OK, sommsters....do your thing! (Just don't get caught)

Mild bee buzz!!!! Most of the time I get good feelings when I hear any SG
song on the radio. Some song have more meaning than other as "FoBD". No
matter when I hear this song I must stop and listen to each and every note.
Brings tears of memories to my eyes...

Led Zep and AiC always do it for me and there are single songs that give me
happy buzzes - but it's not so much the band as it's the words (i.e.,
Wonder Wall is very special for me).

Females are not the only deficiency in my world of music and Soundgarden.
There not too many men either. I did spot of female with a SG tee shirt on
in the mall once so I guess there must be a few in this area besides me..
It's a sad statement but I feel allot of females like SG because the males
in their life (or who they want in their life) likes them.. This statement
does exclude all the sexy, intelligent, glorious, personality plus females
on this list - we are so great aren't we ladies!!!!

Definitely wrong. Though Tool as the openers would be *incredible*,
it's not happening, at least not this time around (many of Tool's
shows on their US tour are at the same venues and only days apart from
SG's shows). Rocket From The Crypt will be opening for the entire US

Yes, Dee Dee, I tried to bring up a similiar question a while back...
and could only come up with this theory which all stems back to
society's influence on human behavior concerning gender. Speaking very
generally of course, it seems that society encourages male aggression
and suppresses female aggression. Agression, and the release of it, is
a natural human emotion and is not limited to males only. It's just
that society teaches males to act aggressively whereas they teach
females to be more passive and reserved. From my own experience (being
a classic male), I enjoy Soundgarden (and music in general) for the
purpose of helping me release my feelings/emotions... and since I am a
very aggressive person, I love to use SG's music to help me release that
emotion in a constructive way. I can only guess that most women, who
still adhere to society's constraints, will not get into SG because they
believe that SG is too aggressive... Personally, I think it is a great
way to relieve anyone's (Male or female) frustrations/aggressions by
blaring Rusty Cage in the middle of a traffic jam and trying to keep up
with Chris's vocals. Without making a rash generalization, I would
think that most women who really enjoy SG are strong in terms of
expressing their individuality... but then again people are different in
so many ways, who knows.... Later, Taylor

I mentioned this back when the single came out, but it got ignored like most
ideas I bring up do.

I've never been a Metallica fan but I was stocking the imports at my store &
I noticed the FOBD demo on the Until It Sleeps single, so I busted it open &
played it. All it is is a 'scat' version of Until It Sleeps. Sounds like
they had the entire instrumental track laid down & the frontman (Hetfield?)
had a melody but no lyrics. I sorta think that since the 2 bands are friends
the just stuck a generic title (borrowed from Soundgarden) on the demo tape
before they developed words. Again, this is just a hunch (as my last post)
but it all makes sense to me (c:

Basically, no, it's not a cover of Soundgarden's song Fell On Black Days (I
think it states that the Metallica guys wrote it anyway) but yes... it's
'possible' that it's a Soundgarden tribute (c:

I decided to make this since there was a review of the concert in Stockholm.
The playlist (not in order)

From Badmotorfinger
Rusty Cage
Outshined
Slaves & Bulldozers
Jesus Christ Pose

From Superunknown
My Wave
Spoonman
Black Hole Sun(solo)
Fell On Black Days
Let Me Drown

From Down On the Upside
Pretty Noose
Boot Camp
Burden In My Hand
Dusty
Ty Cobb
No Attention
Blow Up the Outside World
+Helter Skelter

Few words about the concert itself:
The Icehall was pretty empty, only about 2000 people, there could easily fit
over 10000. I didn't have time to see Eleven, but I saw Moby, which I think
was kinda good. I guess that Moby played mostly his own songs, but he did a
very short version of Sepultura's Roots, Bloody Roots.
Soundgarden started with Spoonman and played in the start songs from SU
only Boot Camp before Chris' solo Black Hole Sun, which I think was
excellent. After that they played Ty Cobb, and mostly from DOTU but there
was Rusty Cage. Their encore tracks were No Attention and Jesus Christ Pose.
Before No Attention Chris said that when I wrote this song I looked like a
twelve year old, but now that I look like sixteen year old I think I'm old
enough to play this, or something like that. After JCP they made very
annoying sounds with bass and guitar which was basically feedback, and in
one point Chris rubbed his guitar to the mic stand. That's about the concert
in a nutshell, if you wan't to know more ask me.

I assume you mean "Ocean Fronts" and "Cleaning My Gun"... but what of
the as-yet-unreleased lyrics that the silly iMusic people forgot to
include in their lyric index but which still reside on their server?

(drum roll please)

"Your Curse"

"Another No Title"
http://imusic.interserv.com/soundgarden/sg3/discography/lyrics3/ly-anothe.html

Notice that both of these have links on them back to Superunknown,
which makes me think they were part of the 26-song collection from
which the final 16 songs were chosen. Also, "Another No Title" has
many of the same lines as "Switch Opens," so this seems to me to be an
early version of that song.

Yessir, i STRONGLY agree with this statement....hehe.....all female SG fans
I have met so far (and yes they are few and far between) have had very
strong personalities....Not afraid to cut loose and express
themselves....and don't shy away from not only feeling the aggression, but
relating to it. I must say though, that SG is not only about aggression to
me. They are also about unbelievable imagery and expression of intense
emotion....expressing things that we could not find words for
ourselves.....I mean the emotion of the songs (lyrics especially) is
something that I think most women would be able to relate and respond to
(being the emotional beings that we are!).. however, since the lyrics are
often paired with some harder edged r&r, many women shy away from their
music, or have not yet allowed themselves to relate to it.

Depends on if they limit the sale range (which hasn't happened so far,

It would be super nice if any BC listers (or anyone) would clue the

Seasons, Dusty, Like Suicide (acoustic) and so on. It got me thinking, has
SG ever gotten the offer to do an Unplugged show? That would be

Subject: Holy Shit! SG Dream

Oh boy, did I have a weird dream last night. I'll just go right into
telling it... Me and about 15 other listers were sitting on the front porch
of this rotting old house. Most of the people were ones that have pictures
in the list directory. But anyway, we were just talking on the front porch
of this house, I had no idea who the house belonged to, or why I was there.
Then, after awhile, Chris, Ben, Matt, and Kim come out of nowhere and go
into the house. Everybody just seemed stunned. The weird part was
everybody said Holy Shit! like 10 times in unison. Then, when everybody
was all calmed down again some guy that I had no idea who was came to the
front porch and told us we could go in and visit with the band if we like.
So everybody filed neatly into the house and just kind of wandered around.
Me, Shroom, and Caryn ended up in this big room filled with pinball
machines, but it was the exact same on both sides of the room.(did that make
sense?) Anyway, in the pinball room with us was Ben, he was playing the
game Corvette, and was really getting pissed off at the machine. After he
lost his last ball he put his foot through the machine and all the coins
fell out. Then, after that the same guy who came to the front porch came in
and told Ben to behave like he was his dad or something, the guy like
scolded Ben, and told him to be "nice to our guests" So, me Shroom, and
Caryn just sit there talking to Ben, I can't remember what we talked to Ben
about, and that's the end of the dream. I know it's not as weird as some of
yours, or as raunchy as some would like (who would that be? jk Shroom) but
it's pretty damn strange for me. Especially the Holy Shit! part, that really
freaked me out, I don't know why. Oh well, I'll shutup.

Hi. I wish I could agree with you guys but....

I think I am just the opposite. I think I like SG and a lot of the other
bands that I like who play what I consider heavy aggressive music because I
have trouble expressing my own aggression or whatever. I'll spare you the
sob story but let's just say I think I'm very very reserved, (repressed), so
SG music is a way for me to get those emotions and that energy out.

I see the future, menopause will hit, I'll run amok (picture the movie

Hey there,

I remember talking about this last year, and it seems pretty
unlikely that Soundgarden would ever do an unplugged. I think someone
called in on some radio show and asked them about it, and Chris said
something like how their songs don't lend themselves to being played
acoustically or something like that. I would personally love to see them
do an unplugged type thing. The acoustic version of Like Suicide is one
of my favorite songs. I also love Seasons. Soundgarden would definately
be awesome unplugged. We can only hope.

Black Cat
Like Suicide
Seasons
Burden in my Hand
Hands all over
Mind Riot (imagine the possibilities on this one!)
Holy Water
Black Hole Sun
Fell on Black Days (LP version)

and how about anything from the Temple of the Dog collection?

yes, absolutely.

and, perhaps, now is as good a time as any to put in a quote for the
wonderful FAQ on seth's web site:

<<1.6 Who is Jason Everman?

Jason Everman was the bassist who joined the band after Hiro left in
1989. This occurred soon after Louder
Than Love was recorded, and just before the ensuing world tour was
about to commence. Several bass players
auditioned for the position, among them Jason Everman and Ben
Shepherd. At the time, Ben didn't know the
songs, and Jason did. So with the tour looming, Jason got the job. In
the end, however, he wasn't what the band
was looking for and was fired after only six months; appearing on
only one song with the band (a cover of the
     Beatles' tune "Come Together").

Everman, also a one-time bassist with Nirvana, has since been
enlisted as a U.S Airborne Ranger, recorded with
Mindfunk and has now (from some reports) joined the U.S Navy. >>

again, for all new people who have web access, please check out the
page--there's a lot of wonderful resources there. (i am aware that not
eveyrone has web access, hence the reason i quoted the relevant question
above.)

Yes, they're playing Brandeis on the 19th, and I can't wait to go. I saw
them about the same time you did in Fitchburg, MA, and they opened there
with jcp too. It was an amazing show. It was a really hot night and
about 90 in the crowd. Security was dumping buckets of water on people so
no one would pass out. Ben even reached down into the crowd to hand us a
water bottle (which was immediately crushed by dozens of groping hands.) I
always thought that was a really cool thing to do though. Has
anyone read anything about why they're shunning the larger venues? I guess
it might make sense that they'd want to have that more intimate setting,
but it makes it a hell of a lot more difficult to get tickets. Especially
when they only play one night. One last question (and I'm new too so
you've probably already discussed this) but what were they playing during
Lollapalooza? I'm just anticipating what they might due this tour... Sarah

I was just listening to 'bleed together' on my trusty walkman
while testing out the lyrics to same on the imusic site, and came up with
a couple of odd features.

the coolest thing is the last verse, beginning with the line "come
away and come with me...". at first I had no idea what the hell it was,
but it suddenly occurred to me that it is actually what chris is singing
through the voice filter (in the right channel) during kim's outro. if
you have heard the song, then you know how hard it is to understand
what exactly is being said, so at least imusic has come through this
time :) the words are different to the feel of the rest of the song. I can
see a connection to 'mailman'; the words seem to imply some sort of
religious or manic inspired violence. kind of cool, really :)

what is weirdest about the transcription is that while they have
the difficult-to-understand final verse, they have left out the chorus
entirely. seems like imusic's left hand just has no idea what the right
hand is doing. I mean, if chris *had* given the lyric sheet to whoever is
responsible, why would he leave the chorus out? it doesn't seem improvised
to me, and is no harder to work out than the rest of the lyrics
<shrugging>.

This is MY band!" :-) I feel that way when I hear songs on the radio =

self control among it's members, who always seem willing to help and =
advise other members. This is almost unheard of on the IN, where a =
popular motto to go by is 'trust no one'.
The mailing list is not w/o it's problems, however. Recently the =
list decided to make t-shirts for themselves, sporting 'SOMMS@mit.edu' =
on the front and 'posting with my good eye closed' on the back, the =
latter refering to a soundgarden lyric. Asingle design was chosen and =
one person to do the printing and distribution. The problems arose when =
the shirts were not sent out at the correct times. The shirts were set =
to be finished during the summer before the Lollapalooza began. As of =
yet they are still being sent, and Lollapalooza's final show was weeks =
ago. What few members received shirts were upset to see different font =
and color schemes then what were chosen, and bad quality printing. The =
person responsible for production of the shirts has strangely been =
absent from the lists for months.
Another problem the list has had deals with the registration =
of our irc(internet relay chat) channel. Once again one person went =
about the process, with consent of several members including myself. =
When the channel, #SOMMS, was finally registered, the individual who did =
so promptly took it over and restricted access to invitation only. Many =
members were outraged about this and withdrew their names from the user =
list while sending complaints to the IRC server organizers. The person =
who took the power trip was dropped from the list and sent several =
flames (angry e-mail messages).
Other than those afore mentioned problems, the list continues to =
be a great place for musical discussion fom over four hundred members, =
and has been mentioned as a favorite site by the band.
                                                              September =
29(?), 1996

well... there it was... that was the rough draft, my teacher still =
has the final one.. i'm waiting for my midterms.. argh... i tried to =
write it to where someone w/o any experience with the IN or e-mail could =
understand it, the final version was much better in that respect. i had =
no corrections on it, except that Dr. fitch and i weren't sure whether =
off-topic was hyphenated or not.. she said she thought it was.. ??? =
have fun with it.. (c) 1996

I was flipping through the latest People magazine (Madonna on cover) and the
very last page it has a piece on Tom Hanks regarding his new movie That
Thing You Do about a fictional band and the music anyway he says....."Its
not like I as saying, 'Ah these kids with their mosh pits and their
Soundgardens and their Pearl jamming ways,' Every
generation finds its music"

Just thought I would share that with you all.
