I'd think that they ere just taking the piss (and they probably just
would be), and I'd just laugh. It wouldn't bother me at all, as if
there's one thing you can be sure of with SG, its that everything they do

you are correct, justin, in that the record company has nothing to do with
this. and knowing the political causes that pearl jam have supported,
there is no way in HELL they would ever let their music be knowingly used
by someone of the likes of rush limbaugh. someone is most likely using it
without permission, probably not knowing the background of the musicians
involved, and waiting until they get stopped. i would never waste my time
watching you-know-who, so i'd never know about it... maybe that's what
they're thinking?

Pushing Forward Back appeared on the Benny & Joon (sp?) soundtrack.
Is it possible that when the song was licensened for that purpose,
the license extended to redistributing the song for some purposes?
It seems possible that the producers of Benny&Joon could have sold
song. Just speculation.

couldn't happen. when you grant rights to use a song in a soundtrack,
you're only granting rights to that specific usage. some artists will let
their music be used in a movie, but not on the soundtrack as i'm sure
you've noticed. i don't see chris, OR stone/jeff granting blanket rights
to anything, let alone their ToTD work.

i really think it's just some moron at the tv show using the song without
thiking about it. too much work for them to go and ask permission, so they
use it until someone tells them to stop. *shrug*

really big letters that were wider toward the outside of the gate and kind
of curved in an arch toward the center, written in white, were the words
"mind" on the driver side, and "riot" on the passenger side. in the middle
below the release handle was the badmotorfinger spiral with the pyramid in
the middle, also in white, and on the cab just above the rear window was a
small soundgarden sticker in the superunknown font, also in white. it was
driving on woodward at about 4:00 today, i birmingham (michigan, by the

Well, I never paid attention to Kirk Hammett of Metallica, and now with his
new look, I think he looks sexy. Imagine Chris with his nails painted
black with S-U-S-A-N tattooed on the knuckles on one of his hands. Kim
would probably look more psycho. It would be strange to fans if
down-to-earth Ben dyed his hair or if Matt shaved his off!(hey, these are
just thoughts!) It would be a totally new image for the band, but maybe not
one fans would like because lots of bands look that way today, especially
with the bleached hair and vinyl pants. Metallica said that everyone has
to change--who wants to see the same band with the same riffs each year? I
have no complaints against soundgarden. They've changed enough, with Hiro
leaving the band. The SG releases are also different in themselves.

I may sound like a boy-crazed teen(I'm really not), but it excites me to
think of Chris in braids and bows.
I think that this topic of the band's image is an interesting topic. I'ts
something I hardly consider since I'm satisfied with the way the band looks
and performs. Hey, no matter how they look, the music, lyrics, and their
creative sense is what matters, right?

I'd just like to add that I really admire the band (and most of
the other seattle bands) for retaining the rights to their own work by
establishing their own publishers. it means that ben, chris, matt and kim
all care enough about their music to keep control over its use, and that
they are intelligent enough to keep this control out of the record
company's hands. nothing against a&m, but I'm sure the band has a better
idea of where their music should be played and who should play it.

I know a lot of other musicians don't do this, and ultimately I
think it is to their detriment. if you relinquish your rights, what are
you left with? I just think this is another example of how the band
controls their own individuality and destiny.

btw, can someone fill me in on what 'ascap' stands for?

Gee, thanks! Us SOMMSters know that we rule... but it's awfully kind of
you to verbalize it (albeit unnecessary). ;-)

>(i may sound stupid or Anoying).

That's ok... we're used to that kind of stuff. Heheheh...

Yeah, well the Nirvana list is ok... but NOTHING compares to SOMMS.

That part must be meant for Mattster. Sorry, Matt can't come to his

you'd like to leave a message, we'll be sure he gets it (on Halloween).
 Heheheh...

>please don't think of me as an obsesive fan ,

Ok... but we're used to obsessive people on this list. In fact...
there's some pretty damn cool obsessive people on this list. Heheheh...

>first, becuase i live in canada

Because you live in Canada, you can't be obsessive? What, is there some
kind of law saying that if you're a Canadian citizen, you can't be obsessed
with anything? Wow... man, that's harsh. Someone needs to tell Justine
about that, before she gets in trouble. ;-)

>and there is nothing to be over obsesive ,

Well, if you're talking about Soundgarden... there's ALOT to be obsessed
with. Such as the MUSIC. And then there's always Chris' sexy body...
heheheh...

>second, becuase I'm not gay ,

And I'm sure that Chris has just breathed a sigh of relief. Or was that
a sigh of disappointment? The world will never know...

>and third, i'm to lazy to staulk anyone .

Oh c'mon... don't you know that Soundgarden just LOVES it when people
stalk them? Where HAVE you been? One should NEVER be too lazy to stalk.
Isn't there a law in Canada to that effect, too? No? Well, there damn well
should be. Heheheh...

>P.S.: you guys rule .

Again... thanks! But you really didn't need to say that. Everyone
knows that SOMMSters are superior to all other life-beings in the universe.
And we're modest, too!! Heheheh... (man, I crack myself up!)

Subject: Something that really pisses me off

It really shocks me the way people rip-off each other. I look at used CD
ads a lot, and I can't believe the number of people who jack up the prices
of "rare" CDs, because they know some poor fools will fall for it. The
worst examples I've seen deal with Soundgarden. Some guy was selling
Screaming Life/Fopp for $18! His tag line was "rare 2 ep set, on 1 disc".
Gimme a fucking break. I bought mine at fucking Blockbuster Music. Another
had Ultramega OK for $18 and Louder than Love for $16. You can get those at
any damn mainstream music store. It really sickens me, because someday,
some eager person wanting to get into SG will fall for the scam. Just
disgusting.
