I can not believe it. I am so upset! I am from Chicago, but at school in
Arizona. I can not go to the Aragon shows because I will be here. And
there date in Phoenix on December 1 is when I will be home for
Thanksgiving. How can this happen to me? Those of you going to the show
at the Aragon Ballroom are very lucky. I saw them there in 1994 and it
was amazing! I know it will never happen, but maby they will add a second
AZ date, I will be back hereon the third of December. Well, I will stop
ranting and raving and hope I can find a way.

oooooh. not only was this posted to the digest (bad bad), but another
hard, fast rule was broken in the process.

it is written; SOMMS 66 verses 5-7:

"THOU SHALT NOT STEAL THOU FELLOW LISTMEMBER'S .SIG QUOTE, MOST
CERTAINLY NOT THAT OF MR. GROTE, FOR HE HATH CLUNG TO THAT .SIG QUOTE
SINCE THE BEGINNING OF TIME, AND HE SHALL CERTAINLY BE FAR TOO LAZY
AND SLOTHFUL TO CHANGE THAT .SIG FILE, EVEN 'TIL THE END OF THE
EARTH."

"AND SURELY NO GOOD CAN COME TO HE WHO NEGLECTS TO OBEY THESE WORDS,
FOR THE WRATH OF SOMMS IS SWIFT AND MIGHTY, AND THERE WILL FOLLOW MUCH
WEEPING AND GNASHING OF TEETH FOR THOSE WHO CHALLENGE THIS DOCTRINE."

"AFTER SPEAKING THESE WORDS TO THE CROWDS, THE LORD GATHERED A PILE OF
DUST FROM THE EARTH, AND AFTER SPITTING UPON THE EARTH HE CRAFTED A
SET OF FIGURES, HUMAN IN SHAPE AND FOUR IN NUMBER, AND HE BREATHED
LIFE INTO THE FIGURES AND LO, THEY LEAPT FOR JOY AND ERUPTED INTO
SONG, CREATING MUSIC THAT WAS PLEASING TO THE LORD. AND THE LORD
LOOKED UPON THEM AND SAYETH, "YOU SHALL BE CALLED SOUNDGARDEN. AND IT
WAS VERY GOOD."

very good indeed. i need to get to work now.

bye...later...

Subject: Off on a tangent

I really can't decide which album I like best, but I must say that
DOTU has the best sound quality by far. I think it might have a lot to do
with SG doing their own producing. I don't know. Anyway, I was
house-sitting for my friend who has a killer stereo system (big bucks, high
accuracy & clarity and all that... Did I mention big bucks?) So I was
spinning some of my SG disks and I hate to say it, but I was kind of
disappointed with the way Superunknown sounded. Kinda flat and uninteresting
(don't kill me, I'm talking sound quality here, not performance or writing.)
Then I put in DOTU and, holy cow, it almost knocked me on my butt. The
quieter songs just pulled me right in and the loud ones grabbed me by the
throat. There's tons of stuff in the background that I never heard before.
Very, very cool. I'm not sure what the point is, except that if any of your
friends are stereo freaks, go hog their system for an hour or two.
Definetely worth it.

Did you ask the Professor if he/she had ever heard of a "metaphor". Did
he/she tell you why they though this was blasphemy? In the song JCP the
Lords name is not taken in vain. It doesn't belittle or degrade Jesus.
The song is comparing a pose done by an unknown person to the pose of
Christ on the cross. Were you given the opportunity to explain the meaning
of the song?

But then you need to pass your course don't you.. It's called kissing butt
to get what you want.. Don't sweat it, it's a small thing, there will be
bigger fights to come.

I'm not surprised at that reaction at all. (Living in Indiana, I get that

or if they think they hear something that they think should offend them in
some way, they get all bent out of shape. Personally, I get a kick out of

if we can all pretend for a minute that i'm not an idiot and that i
didn't really screw up the birthday card part of the ben shepherd
feature on the web page, i'd like to point out 2 things that happened
today of which we can all be proud:

* the mailing list now has 600 subscribers

thank you everyone for making it so successful. as some of you may
know, the last soundgarden list that was started got as far as the
introductory message and then -- nothing -- so i was a bit worried
about starting another one. it seems to have worked out pretty well,
though. after almost 14 months, the traffic is still between 30 and 50
messages each day (thankfully the peak days of 80+ messages/day are
over -- compiling the digest was a nightmare), and i take that to be a
sign of a very successful list.

* the unofficial web page has been hit 160,000 times

in just under a year, too (and the counter doesn't include any hits
from my machine). it amazes me every day that so many people from all
over the world can work together on such a huge project and have it
turn out so well. there are more than 420 pages within the site, not
including the private mailing list stuff (and not including digests +
images + sound clips + etc.; just html documents), which is a giant
leap from the paltry 10 or so that comprised the first incarnations of
the site in march 1994. i hope you are all proud of yourselves and
what you've created; you've all done a hell of a job.

There are some cool photos from last year's Euro tour located at
http://www.ms4music.com/soundgarden/mapchooser.html -- some of them
are the same ones that appear in smaller, more useless inline images
at http://www.imusic.com/soundgarden/tour.html (Touring The

thank you everyone for making it so successful. as some of you may
know, the last soundgarden list that was started got as far as the
introductory message and then -- nothing -- so i was a bit worried
about starting another one. it seems to have worked out pretty well,
though. after almost 14 months, the traffic is still between 30 and 50
messages each day (thankfully the peak days of 80+ messages/day are
over -- compiling the digest was a nightmare), and i take that to be a
sign of a very successful list.

First of welcome to the list...and secondly this message goes to everyone
on the list whether they have the digest or they get each message
indiviualy...does that answer your question? Again welcome to the list and
I think you will find it quite interesting...:) Have fun!

Subject: best SG line

I would have to say that the best SG line in a song would be, "Light a
Roman candle and hold it in your hand" from 4th of July. Whenever I
hear that line I just go crazy. Listen to it tonight and you will see
what I mean. I was wondering if anyone knew a place on the net that had
SG songs in a WAV or AU format to download. I have WINNT and it won't
accept REal Audio. See I go to West Point and I am a Freshmen and we
cannot have stereos until Christmas, so I have thousands of downloaded
sound clips, but none of my favorite band which is SG. If there is
anyone out there who knows please send them to me.

Thanks,

P.S. The song "Boot Camp" on DOTU is exactly how boot camp is "Like
Angels in a Cage"

if you go to a public university, and it appears from the address above
that you do, it is illgal for him to make that kind of distinction in a
class. if you go to a private university, especially one that is
christian-denominational of some sort, then he can do that, but he (sorry,
she?) is still a close-minded, pathetic individual, and has no right to be
teaching at a university level.

vikki the lunatic PHONED us today from England and left a message about the
Wolverhampton show.

She was mainly excited because she'd talked to Chris and Kim getting off the
bus before the show, gotten their autographs, and told them hi from SOMMS
and the KTMS.

she said the show was great, that they were in great shape and played really
well.

said to say hi to everyone and that she was having a great time.
