The acronym "SOMMS" itself is not a palindrome, but what the acronym stands for in fact is a palindrome:
SATANOSCILATEMYMETALICSONATAS
and backwards:
SATANOSCILATEMYMETALICSONATAS

So There!

Okay, hate to be the grammatical bitch, SOMMS is not a palindrome....a
palindrome has to read the same backwards and forwards "SMMOS" is not
the same...just so you know.

HeHe...I was just re-reading the laments from the member who had some
numbnuts ask if Sg was the "new Black Hole Sun group" and I can sure
relate. I used to work on a zine for The Fixx....anyone remember them?
"One Thing Leads to Another" was their big hit in the 80's, like maybe
84. Well, if I mentioned them to anyone I met, I had to tell them that
song title to ring a bell w/ them! So I guess bands kinda get
pigeonholed by a song or a sound, ya know? W/ Sg tho, it dewpends on
the age of the person I mention them to. I work in a school and if I
mention them to any kids, yeah, they know immediately who Sg is and are
amazed _I_ know who they are let alone listen to them. If I mention
them to people who aren't at all indoctrinated to the sound or the
scene, forget it--no amount of titles will ring any bells.

Hey, anyone else have any "who are they" type of incidents to relate?
This could get pretty funny....ciao...deb

speaking as someone who regularly went through this before i was 'legal'
(fuck, what am i saying/?? my parents try to do it to me NOW, why do you
think i live on the other side of the country from them??!) even if
someone on the list went to meet her parents, it would be disastrous --
'who are you to tell me what to do with my kid'. (i know, because i tried
that once and it got me grounded, no phone, arbitrarily, for a month).

erin, i know it sucks. i wont bore you or anyone else with stories of the
cool shit imissed because my parents were assholes and didn't know how to
deal with a normal teenager besides pulling these kind of power trips.
all i can say is that it does end eventually and then you can do whatever
you want and you can make up for lost time, seeing as many damn sg shows

Will some kind soul please inform me when Soundgarden's NYC shows sell
out? I expect the both of them to, but I REALLY hope they don't sell
out until AFTER I get the tickets.. of course if I do end up with two
tickets and no ride (I have a few alternatives left, so I'm pretty
optimistic about getting a ride), I can always sell them to good
trustworthy SOMMS people, can't I? So I won't be losing any money even
if I do buy the tickets and have no ride. Or maybe since there is lack
of Soundgarden interest lately (from what I have seen and from what
people have mentioned on the list) it won't sell out and I'll be lucky.
But I'd rather have no ride to the show and have to sell the tickets
than find a ride somewhere and be screwed because it's sold out. Dig?
So let me know... PLEEEEASE... :> :> Pretty please? With Keviner on

it was sold out -- i got there 7 minutes after the announcement was made
and there were close to 500 people on line. they had 250 pairs of
tickets, two tickets per person = 500 total. so it was sold out
immediately.

i thought... soundgarden at the showbox. i'm there even earlier! no
problem. i ran out of the office, ran across the street to the bank

I hope by "you", you're not referring to me personally. If I gave the
impression I was dissatified with the decision, I apologize, the original
post was unclear--I just thought it was strange. But you have to admit that
a 2-3,000 seat venue is a long way from the 19K seat Delta Center. I just
thought they would be booked at the Delta Center.
In fact im very excited at the possibility of seeing them in a
small arena again--the first time I saw them sandwiched in between Prong
and Voivod, at a very small "club". Needless to say, its very exciting to
be 6 inches away from Kim.
On the other hand, it has to be seen as a step down by exects at A
& M. (I know, who cares) Im sure they would have rather seen the band play
in front of three times as many people. I agree that it was a personal
decision by the band--theyre the ones that are losing the money--obviously
(as another post mentioned) they want to please their fans--but it seems to
me they'll fall into thesame trap as Pearl Jam. People bitch that PJ plays
in large arenas--but
when they attempted to play a smaller arena near Salt Lake (wolf mtn), and
the show sold out in four minutes--then people bitch because they cant get
tickets!! They cant win.
Soundgarden has always had a strong following here in Salt Lake. If
15,000 people want to see them, but only 3,000 tickets are being sold,
whats going to happen? Seems to me that you have more unhappy fans than
happy ones.
I remember before DOTU came out, many people on this list feared
that it would launch the band into stellar super-stardom, forcing them into
very large arenas. I dont think that has happened, and I guess we can all
be thankfull. I know I am.
IMO if soundgarden want's to "please their fans" they should invest
in some new road gear, get serious about mixing their live sound, and turn
the motherfu**in volume DOWN. Flame Away. SWC

A while back someone (sorry, don't remember who) said since so many of

By the way, I've lost count of all of us who are going to the Chicago

We are working on tickets for fanclub members in each region. However, you
would not be eligible for the Chicago tix as they would be only for the
Chicago resident fanclub members ( many of whom do not have the $$ to fly
across the country to see Soundgarden.) Why don't you just wait for the
Seattle show...you didn't think they would forget their hometown?

i don't suppose the fan club put tickets aside for fan club members to
purchase for the chicago show?

a group of us (who are fan club members) want to fly from seattle to chicago
for the weekend -- there's a huge gathering of people from the sg mailing
list, along with the show -- and saturday night has sold out already. we
were wondering if there was a way for us to purchase tickets via the fan
club if they made them available -- there's three of us.

for new people on the list, if you're interested in finding out if
soundgarden is playing your hometown this tour, the best place to ask that
question is NOT here -- we don't know!

instead, you can write to the fan club at this address:

sgfc@speakeasy.org

additionally, you can go to web sites such as ticketmaster
(www.ticketmaster.com) and pollstar (www.pollstar.com) and do searches on
soundgarden to see what dates are listed.

no, i'm not seth, i'm just trying to help people out -- we don't know the

these dates for so many months (as we all have). Anyway, it's kind of cool

And does anyone have any ideas on the unannounced dates? I'm guessing Nov.
24 is Dallas because that's a major city (not just because I'm here) and it's

Well, some of us probably are fan club members. But just as members of

tomorrow, so I'll start pokin around the area to see if there is
somewhere we can meet. About how many people are planning on gathering?
It must be at least 10.
Maybe a radio station in town (103.5?) is sorta promoting the concert, so
they might be good to go through for some sort of recognition (5 minute
head start into the venue *hope*)

Our traveling Toni (in Seattle right now) will be scouting out a place to
meet and eat close to the hall next week (if she is not totally worn out).
I was also thinking about a design for a tee (maybe a transfer so we can
iron on to the shirt of our choice). I really like SOMMSfest 96', maybe
over an outline of the Chicago city skyline. But I definitely think we
need to make noise that a large number of SOMMs members will be attending
this show. Same goes for all the other dates, if we get good numbers of
member going noise should be made...

Subject: Joey Buttafuoco - My Story

Well, after being utterly depressed for a few hours, Mommy called with
her beloved credit card number. All right! Now I just have to get
tickets somewhere. So I took matters into my own hands and called
TicketBastard (I know I got that term from the list, and I don't
remember who exactly said it, but I love it), which is a risky prospect
ever since the mishap I experienced trying to get tickets for a
Soundgarden show in 1994 - I called the Ticketbastard people (I love it!
That's a title they well deserve.) and asked about Soundgarden playing
in Rochester, since I was told by my local Z-Rock affiliate that they
would be playing there. (The Z-Rock people were REALLY nice about it,
too, they took my name and number and called me right back with New York
tour dates.) This bitch goes, "Is New York City in Rochester?" "No."
"Is Fitchburg in Rochester?" "No." "Then they're not playing
Rochester." STUPID FUCKING BITCH! 24 hours later, I get a Soundgarden
tour schedule in the mail. Lo and behold, it says ROCHESTER JUNE 14
right on the damned thing. And then I had myself a ticket to see
Soundgarden. Stupid assholes... and today I called, and the lady who
took my call didn't seem exactly interested, but at least she wasn't a
friggin bitch.. She told me what I already know, of course, all three
Roseland dates are sold out *SOB*, but she also said she had no listing
whatsoever for Brandies Arena in Boston on November 19th. Now, if that
is a good or bad thing, I don't know... It DOES mean it's not sold out
:> and I still have a chance.. but what if the whole thing was just a
hoax and I have no chance to see Soundgarden? :>
But then I still have the fan club, and I might even be able to get
tickets for New York through the fan club, except I moved in December
and I never sent a change of address because I figured I would just
rejoin anyway, except I never had the cash lying around to do it... so I
don't even know if I'm in the fan club anymore.. YOu bet yer ass I
mailed KOTS about that, as well as a million other things :>
Wow.. I thought I was the most obsessed Soundgarden fan in the world,
but that was before I got on the list, and I thought I was equally
obsessed with a bunch of others :> But I'm bending over backwards just
to get two tickets to the Boston show.. I don't know, would you try so
hard to go see them live? Especially when you've already seen them
twice this year? :> Sigh.. I guess I'm just more vocal about it. I
don't have a life, after all. :>

From: seth <saperl@MIT.EDU>

Just wanted to clear up a few things about the "Boston" gig: it's not
in Boston, and there's no such thing as a "Brandies" Arena. As far as
I can determine, the show will be at the Brandeis Arena, which is part
of Brandeis University, and will therefore be in Waltham, not Boston.
So if you call Ticketmaster and ask for info about SG in Boston and
they give you a snotty answer, try Waltham.

I'll be changing the Web page to reflect that change as well, though
if it turns out the concert is actually in a different venue and is in
Boston, I'll just look like an idiot. :)

hear the woman talking to me. so as soon as i stopped hearing a voice
mumbling something, i yelled about "when are the tickets for the

"um, do you have the date for that?" so i tell her and she screws
around with her little computer or whatever, and then says "um, i

you don't KNOW??? um, okay, thanks for wasting my time! well, i guess
since the dates were just announced today, it IS kinda fast for them

Traveling from Houston to Dallas to Austin is quite awkward. Grab a map &

BETTER be! Soundgarden skipping NO would be plain evil... but anyway this is
