I'm not jewish but my boyfriend is. We were watching the PN video and
he saw the logo at the end for the first time and he freaked. Yeah he
thought it was a swastika at a glance. I had to explain to him what
it was since he's not a big fan of sg. I showed him the UMOK insert
and explained everything to him. And I have to admit, yeah at a
glance, it would seem sorta "swastiky". but that's just moi.

Sorry if this isn't about Soundgarden, but does anyone know of other
mailing lists for bands? I have Nirvana, Metallica, White Zombie, and
Pantera if anybody wants them. Please mail me directly so the digest
doesn't get cluttered with a bunch of crap(kind of like this letter!)
thanx.

just a couple of little things. nothing major, really.

I've been listening to my rusty cage single a lot over the last
couple of days. the two bsides are *great*, songs I hadn't given much time
until recently. touch me is cool. the shared vocals between chris and
stephanie barber (did I get that right?) are superb. considering how good
he sounds with layne and jerry on right turn, maybe he should consider
singing with other people more often. maybe mark lanegan would be a good
start :) one thing I'm not sure about is whether it is just the two of
them singing the chorus. seems like there is another voice in there. maybe
matt or ben are in there somewhere.

especially cool is ben's rocker, show me. sounds just like the
material ben later wrote for the hater album. it never really grabbed me
before, but since the start of the week, I haven't been able to get enough
of it. for those of you who haven't heard it, ben's great lyrics and
strong riffing drive this song along smoothly, so smoothly that I ended up
listening to it's two minutes and change about six times last night. it
is kinda tame until the second chorus is out of the way, and then chris
really warms up (during the bridge, I think) and starts wailing along to
matt's pounding floor tom. of special note is kim's doubled lead break.
the left channel is a kind of melodic whirl, while the right is like the
off-beat solo he recorded for _twisted willie_. if there was a video for
it, I'd pick it as song of the week. no doubt about it :)

Okay, I'm not going to make any more excuses or anything. I will agree with
everyone that what I originally wrote didn't sound too good and I really
should have worded things differently, but I didn't, so I wrote another
letter to try and justify myself. But that only seemed to get me in deeper,
I hope this one does a little better. I really want to apologize I know I
probably made an interesting image for myself to some people. I do want to
thank the people who did understand me because I was really getting flamed
and it really made me feel bad. You can quote this letter all you want, I
just want to drop this subject from here on out.
Can't We All Just Get Along? ....JK!
Well at least we all share the one same view that Soundgarden is an
incredibly talented band, now argue all you want with me on that one!

I just wanted to ask a question also - Is this borgostj guy
getting on anyones nerves yet? I really think he is very rude and his
contrbutions really don't mean anything. If I was Seth I would drop him
because he's continually going off the topic. Get mad at me for saying this
but I really feel he is a nuisance, Heck, I'm probably a nuisance too, but I
enjoy what people say and as much as you guys flame me I really do take it as
constructive criticism... believe it or not!

i don't see it... i think it only looks like a swastika to those who don't
really know what one looks like. believe me, i wouldn't be caught dead
wearing anything that even remotely resembled a swastika, and for reasons a
hell of a lot more significant than being mistaken for a skinhead. ;-(

any other sommsters of jewish origin every have any problems with the UOK

No, i have no problem with it. Not at all. In fact it never crossed
my mind, and i have a definite sensitivity to stuff like that! If it
had EVER crossed my mind, i would not only not own UOK but would feel
very uncomfortable about SG in general. It is pretty clear when a

I just wanted to agree that it is a fucking awesome movie. You probably
already know this all, but I'm going to spout trivia anyway. True
Romance's original music scores were written by Hans Zimmer (The Lion
King, Africa: The Serengeti, and tons of other stuff) TR was written by
Quentin Tarantino. It was directed, though, by Tony Scott who is the
brother (pretty sure, close relation, at least) of Ridley Scott (Blade
Runner, Aliens, White Squall) and the father or uncle (again, not sure
exactly) of Jason (damn, forgot his first name, but I think that's it)
Scott who directed the Outshined and Burden In My Hand videos. I know
that trivia got kind of hazy, but I know there's someone on here who can
solidify those connections.

Ok, i was at this concert last night, and before the power died, i was
paying particular attention to the drummers, and um, if i could use matt
as a standard of comparison, DRUMMERS SUCK! They both only played two
pieces of their set at a time....Matt was like all over the set in the
same beat! These guys would play 1 bar snare and crash then one bar tom
and crash....Matt should just teach them....If i had a drum set, i'd try
to be like matt....Of courses i have a guitar and i'm not like kim
yet.....Well, he's been at it for 30 years, he's got an advantage.
That's my excuse. ;)

Also, i was at this record store the other day, and i saw this poster of
a guy looking for fellow musicians, and he listed soundgarden as an
influence. Needless to say, all the little phone number thingys were
torn off....but what was wierd that the thing had just been put up that
morning. I saw the sign at 2, and the store opens at 11...
Ok, i'm done now...

I saw a commercial yesterday for a new movie, titled "Feeling Minnesota"

Subject: what the flying f*ck is this?!

OK people,
For some reason, I just got the Aug. 19 digest as a new message.
Any ways, I reread it and spied this little jem:

>
>
>What else.....oh yeah. While in NC last week, I found a copy of Somms. They
>were asking $40, but I jewed 'em down to $30.

Am I being too PC, or does anyone else have a problem with this?
Whoever the fuck wrote this wasn't using their head. Now don't get me
wrong--I'm not labeling this person as some super-Nazi or something. BUT I
find this to be very offensive. Call me crazy, but using racial slurs is
not acceptable behavior in my book. I myself am not jewish. I have friends
who are, but that doesn't matter. If I didn't know a single jewish person I
would still be upset with this little comment.
        Jews aren't cheap money-hoarders and "blood-suckers".
        Blacks aren't illiterate/homeless/druggie/watermelon-eatin' niggers.
        Hispanics aren't border-jumpin/no-good/jobless/greasey spics.
Get the picture? Ignorant morons actually believe these preconceptions and
perpetuate them. Whoever wrote this, maybe you were only jokingly using the
verb "jewed". If so, I ain't laughing.
If you actually use this word in your everyday language, then you've
got some problems. We've got enough troubles in this world. We don't need
bigotry, racism, and hatred being perpetuated on this digest.
Right now some of you are saying: "Now hold up there, buddy. Isn't
that going a bit far? After all, they just said a simple word." You tell
me. How does the vast majority of racism start? Racists don't
spontaneously go out and lynch the first black person they meet. Neither do
they gas the first jew they spy walking down the street.
This is a Soundgarden Digest, remember? You know--music being the
universal language, breaking down borders all over the world? I don't
know--maybe I'm a bleeding heart liberal idealist.
All I'm saying is that whenever you say or do anything, on the
Digest, whereever, THINK. Everything we do has ramifications.

I also need a ticket for the 9th. I think I can come up with humane
flight times, but $300 is what you are going to pay.

i've got a call into my travel agent right now. Aaron! what are you

amen, caryn...amen. :)

my greatest success stories involving getting "in with the band" and
collecting cool band stuff all revolve around one simple fact:
security people and show organizers are the key.

i went to a helmet show a couple of years ago and ended up talking
with page (hamilton...bandmaster extraordinaire) for 5-10 minutes. he
gave me a guitar pick (a big fat meaty pick) and his water bottle and
it was all just dandy. the security people saw me arrive early and
stake out the front row, and i talked to several of them so they kind
of backed off when i hopped around right next to the stage. the band
was slated to play a show the next day in another town and wanted to know
about the venue, and I started screaming above the din until page
heard me...i was quite familiar with the joint and moved up to the
front so I could tell him about it...very cool...i started talking
about his pedal setup and demonstrated an interest, and we just
gabbed...

the screaming estrogen female crowd was relatively tame on that
particular occasion...because the helmet boys are all pretty ordinary
looking. like the boys you grew up with next door...great folks. they
probably would have laughed at anybody who tried to get "sexy" with
them.

anyway, i didn't have similar results at lollapalooza in my efforts to
root around backstage...i made it past one wave of security and saw
some band folks hobnobbing during rancid's set, but I was a good 40
yards away, so no big deal. unfortunately, the idiot fan factor at
those sorts of shows seems to call for a strict tightening of security
measures...a friend of mine who was supposed to get back-stage access
to cover stuff for the radio station he works for was essentially
denied...he had to stay off the stage and basically hung out in the
"press tent." oh well...seeing sg perform was pleasure enough...

i've also rambled enough...

later...

geez, i went into a local musci store and say DOTU tab books, that was =
quick!! I WAS RIGHT ABOUT OVERFLOATER!!!!! i was so happy, it's the =
first time since birth ritual that i've actually figured out a sg song =
just right....

also, is there somewhere i can order a louder than love book? or =
badmotorfinger (read: any of them) ??? i haven't been able to find a =
ordering thingy from cherry lane, and i don't want to have to go through =
a music store (they're slow)... it was pretty neat how they talked about =
the band at the beginning of the DOTU book, but i didn't bother to read =
it. most just have the tab and maybe a few pictures.

to anyone who'll know: what kind of effects does sg use? i know they =
have the thing with dunlop for the crybaby 535, but what else like delay =
or distortion, etc?

Wow! This is soo cool. In the beginning of June, there was a Soundgarden
trivia contest in CHART magazine, which of course I entered.... Well
guess what? It turns out I WON!! Today I received a parcelin the mail
which had the limited-edition double LP of DOTU, four DOTU stickers,
two DOTU psters and a "Pretty Noose" t-shirt. As you've probably guessed
I'm REALLY happy, and think this started out to be a bad week...

i tried out some epiphones today (lefties are scarce and $$) and i was =

i had to try them out on crates (ugh) and they sounded shitty, but that =
was definately the amps. also, is there all that much difference in tone =
between the SG style g-tars and les paul style ones? i've come to think =
i need a humbucking guitar (the strat's getting limiting) and i'm in the =
market w/ little $$ and the guitars i looked at are cheaper than my =
