I used the "g" word. I thought I'm apologize so I don't have to read all

Things that suck: this month's Song Of The Month page and the
non-celebration for Kim's birthday. I had really hoped to do better,
but I just waited until the last minute (trying to enjoy the end of my
summer before class starts again). I really apologize for the crappy
effort -- I promise better stuff next month.

Things I will add to the Web page: clips of SOMMS bands covering SG
tunes in weird and wonderful ways.

Things I will not add to the Web page: photos of tattoos of Chris
Cornell on list members' butts.

You may want to think twice before getting a tatoo that could be mistaken
for a swastika.
If you are not a neo-nazi, do you really want people that you don't know
to think that you are?
I know that the BMF logo doesn't really look like a swastika, but some
people might think that it does.
I gave myself an "X" tatoo a long time ago. I recently decided to have
that particular tatoo covered up because several people told me that
they thought it was a modified swastika. They were wrong, but I weighed
my desire to keep the tatoo against the posibility of being thought of as
a neo-nazi. I decided that the tatoo wasn't worth keeping.
I would never mistake the BMF wheel for a swastika, but I would never
mistake an "X" for a swastika either.

Hmmm... Dena and I have had this conversation a couple times before.
We were discussing Matt's lyrics vs Chris'... and Eddie Vedders vs Stone
Gossards. As far as I'm aware, both Chris and Eddie have had weird and
sometimes messed up lives... and they write terrific music and amazing
lyrics. Matt and Stoney have both had fairly normal lives... and to be
truthful, their lyrics are rather simplistic and happy. Heheheh... Matt even
seems to get off to rhymes in his... "Butt-rock, candy shop... Lynnwood's my
favorite stop". Don't get me wrong... I love "Sad McBain" (Hater). And
"Mankind" is one of my favorite PJ tunes (pogo!!). But do you think that
there's any correlation between the artists messed up childhood and the depth
of his lyrics?

Ummm... I just reread what I have written, and it doesn't seem to make
any sense whatsoever. Heheheh... I know, I know... "Shroom, can you please

Ummm... I kinda thought the BiMH girl looked like Matt. Maybe Matt is
moonlighting as a chic in rock videos? I'd never considered the
possiblility, but maybe he's getting tired of playing the drums. Oh well,
it's better than him taking up a profession totally outside of the music

Subject: Matt playing the guitar...

Aha!! Knew there was SOMETHING that I'd forgotten to mention in my last
post. Remember that thingy about Matt playing the guitar with the Ramones,
and Seth couldn't picture it? Well, if you people have those PJ Starr tapes,
then you can see Matt playing the guitar... but only for a second. Dena (who
is so observant, she can pick out interesting background noises on songs
(like gum-chomping) at five hundred yards) pointed this out to me. It's
during a SG/PJ show in Houston (that I fucking missed, damn me straight to
hell). When both SG and PJ are on the stage playing a Neil Young song
together... Abruzze (or however you spell the man's name) is playing drums.
Chris (mmm... no shirt) and Jeff (also mmmm... no shirt) are playing the
bass (methinks?). Mike, Kim, Stone (yeah, he was wearing a shirt... but he's
still plenty yummy) and MATT are playing the guitar. Vedder is singing.
Matt even has HIS shirt off, woo-hoo (heheheh, Foo)!! Sorry, inside joke.
Anyways... check it out, 'cuz Matt's doing his little number (look for the
blue baseball hat on backwards), and it's pretty groovy. It's right after
Chris is done talking about SOMMS and Lolla, and they flash a picture of
Perry Farrell (who has kissed Dave Navarro before, yummy)... Tabby Soren
starts talking about the PJ/SG Neil Young cover thingy... and then they show
two quick glimpses of our Mattster. Look to the right hand side of the stage
for him. Ok... just thought I'd share that with you. Thank yew, and good
night.

Still more stupid musician jokes:
Q: What was the last thing the drummer said before he got
      kicked out of the band?
A: "Hey, I wrote some lyrics last night."

thingy at the OK Hotel. ;-) We'll also be there on the night of the 28th.

Hey everybody! I'm new to the list (though I've been lurking for more
than a year). I've finally decided to come out of the shadows and
publicly declare my Soundgarden addiction.

Also, I got tix to both the Chicago shows too. At first I called at
9:57 am and the agents wouldn't let me hold for a couple of minutes.
HOW RUDE! But I did finally get through. So I'll be making the trek
up from Indy, hope the weather's not nasty. -- I'll go anyway. What's
with all the long list of rules for the Aragon "Brawlroom". Their
rules are really starting to get on my nerves, (not to paraphrase a
really bad movie or anything). Is there anybody else on the list from
Indy. Please e-mail me, I'd love to hear from you. Soundgarden fans
seem to be a rarity in these here parts.
 I'm at mlewis@evansgroup.com

And then I just had two other things to share with you guys, then I'll
shut up. I keep having a recurring nightterror that Chris has died.
I'm really troubled by this, I'm serious, I wake up in a panic because
I dreamed about John Lennon the night that he was killed and have had
other weird little 6th sense experiences. What do you think this
means, if anything? Hopefully nothing.

Finally, I really think Chris should either grow his hair back out
long and curly or keep it shaved close like in this picture I have of
them, ('93 maybe, I think its from Rip or one of those other metal
mags, I'm not sure). Anyway, as much as it pains me to admit it,
adoring Chris as much as I do, I think his hair looks really bad
right now. Any comments? Shroom?
Just thought I'd throw my little opinion in, just in case you care.

Oh well, I'm outta here. ;>)

I didnt get into SG until 92 so I never got to see em during their eight

was three bands that were well known for a cool price... I dunno.. if

Holy wow, I had that on my bookbag too =) But no one thought it was a
swastika =) But I got one of the SG shirts with that on it for
Christmas and my dad sees it: "Is that a swastika?" "No Dad, It's a
Soundgarden logo" and then the beauty: "Oh yeah! I see the S and the
G!" (Hell, I didn't even know it was a G, I just thought it was a
really big S.) =) And then horror of horrors, my dad's girlfriend came
over and saw the shirt and accused me of having a shirt with a swastika
on it *groan*. And then things just got worse when my dad agreed with
her, when just hours ago he saw it for what it was, simply a Soundgarden
logo. Groan... =)

Personally I don't think Chris has anything against God. I think he
objects to the way organized religion hogties "the flock", putting the

I think this is the first time I have ever heard kim talk about
something other than music or his philosophy. it's a (very) short piece
from rolling stone (june 13, '96); kind of autobiographical but in a
reader's digest format. expect a song about leeches and gym shoes in the
near future :)

"the summer I was 16, I earned the money to buy my first electric
guitar. each summer I'd get new gym shoes and swear I could jump higher
and run faster. I liked playing baseball until it was too dark to see the
ball. we'd go to creeks to spot turtles. most often, we came up with
buckets of leeches - half a dozen kids with buckets that they'd have to
leave on the porch. by morning they were always mysteriously empty. we
found out that at night the leeches crawled into the yard, where they'd
dry up or get eaten by birds."

Subject: What I did for Chris

Hi all! It has been a while, I've been out of town and got
taken off the mailing list because my mailbox overloaded, due to a lot of
stupid chain letters. But I have missed all of my crazy Soundgarden friends.

Okay I know the Lollapalooza-my experience mail has come and
gone, but like I said I have been gone a while. So I must tell my story! I
went to the Los Angeles Lollapalooza for the soul purpose of seeing Chris
Cornell (well, the band too) but I had shitty seats so I knew I had to set
out on a quest to see Chris. First of all I talked to radio DJ's and one
from KLOS said sure at the concert meet me at the booth and I'll get you to
see them up close, needless to say that never happened. So next I tried to
bribe people at all the backstage gates, well let's just say people don't
enjoy money as much as I thought they did. I contemplated climbing over the
fence but if the consequences were to end up getting thrown out, I didn't
want to risk it. Next I went to the gate for the Orchestra section and tried
to bullshit the security gaurds that I lost my tickets. But those assholes
were doing there jobs and not letting me in. This is where I started getting
really desperate. At the time I was wearing a very short pink metallic skirt
and this was an attention getter with the guys, so I used my smarts and used
this to my advantage. A guy walked by and nearly fell down from checking me
out so I asked him to come over. I explained to him my situation and said if
he were to get a friends ticket to let me in I would buy him and his friends
a couple of rounds of beer. We'll the words FREE BEER and a GIRL made this
guy spin so he got me in. Well to my very surprise this guy had box seats
three rows away from the front. Hell this was so much better than sitting in
the last row before the grass section, and I don't even know what happened to
my friends.
This was my dream come true. I thought it was too easy, well it was.
This italian guy started playing touchy feely kissy, it grossed me out but i
had to sit through it bacause I wanted to see Chris. Chris finally came out
on stage and I creamed my panties. He was so fucking hot, I was so close I
could see the sweat glistening off of his godlike body. Of course Chris took
his shirt off, I thought I was going to have a stroke and need to be rushed
to the hospital. All in all I had an incredible time even though I couldn't
kidnap Chris because of thick security. Hey maybe when they play in LA
again. I know I'm probably boring you with my Cornell obsessions but I'm
back and I need to catch up so live with it or don't read it. K? :)

Hello again,

Since I was gone for a while I just went back and looked at some
old digest's. Oh my gosh it is so scary but I really do think Shroom is my
soul sister. I saw that she wrote something about Eddie Vedder or Perry
Farrell kissing Dave Navarro and just about died. As much as I adore Chris
Cornell I think Dave is one of the ruling Gods also. If anyone has a pic. of
Dave's kiss please send! I must say though it would be so incredibly awesome
if Chris broke it off with Susan for Dave (I deeply agree with you Shroom).
And by the way some people claim that they are so innocent and would never
claim how obsessed they are with Chris's awesome body. We'll I know the
truth I was reading some portfolio's and some people (beside's Shroom and I)
were saying some pretty steamy stuff about Chris. LOL. Anyways, be proud,
who cares if he is married worship his fucking sexy awesome body!

p.s. No offense to anyone who would possibly be offended, I have noticed
some people taking things that are really not all too serious and blowing it
out of proportion. I write some pretty crazy stuff so don't read it if you
don't like it!

                                                                         Love

why does this whole message make me feel unbearably sad?
and angry at the same time?
was this really necessary and worth it? one thing to talk your way
through, one thing to even wear a short skirt, but allowing some stranger
to maul you just so you could sit in the third row... am i old-fashioned
or something?

i guess it only bothers me because in all my years of trying to meet bands
and sneaking around and tracking them down to their hotels and all the
crazy stuff we used to do, we never, ever, ever, EVER did stuff like this.
that was the line that divided us from the groupies. we were FANS.
we got tons of offers from security guards, radio station dj's, band
crew... but that was the limit. we were going to meet the bands by being
smart and being ourselves (and yes, sometimes by wearing short skirts),
but we didn't put out... we didn't have to! we brought boxes of presents,
flowers, wrote silly signs, pulled silly stunts, and ya know what? it
worked. ;-) and we had lots of fun doing it, and we stayed TOGETHER,
because what was the point if you didn't have your friends to share it
with and talk about it for the next 10 years?

i know i'll get flamed for this... but that message just made me sad more
than anything.

Caryn,
Through all the times I've ever wrote you always had something
negative to say to me, I am sorry you if you don't like me. But I do think
you might take what I have to say too seriously. I am a very layed back
person, and that does not mean I get layed!
I resented the comment about putting out. I NEVER did that. I sat in my
own seat while this guy tried to touch me and kiss me, but did you ever see
me say I let him? NO! I have a boyfriend whom I love dearly, I told him
about that evening and he thought it was kind of funny that I used this guy
to get up close to Soundgarden. But I never once let this guy touch me
without me smacking him. If my boyfriend is confident in me than I know that
I did nothing wrong, it would be a different story if I actually did
something wrong. And about the short skirt thing, I like wearing cute
little skirts, this one was quite fashionable, no intents to do anything but
look cute, I did not look like a slut, but if a guy was to check me out, why
not use it to my advantage to get closer to the stage.I just wanted to
justify myself, I don't know why I should justify myself to you, but I guess
I should since it obviously made me look bad, I think I will post this too!

Hey, I had a dream about Kim the other night. Wanna hear about it? No?
Tough, I'm telling you anyway. Ok, I was in K-mart walking towards the soap
aisle, and I spotted Kim standing in front of some kind of glass display
case. He was wearing eyeglasses, and his Tool shirt. I was thought to
myself, "Oh hey... there's Kim. Cool. Now where in the hell do they keep
the soap around here??" Anyway, these four guys walked up to me. Four very
trashy guys, I might add. They were like "Hey baby... wanna hang out with us
for awhile?" I said "Not in this lifetime." Then one of them grabs my arm,
and puts his hand on my face. He says, "C'mon baby, don't be like that. If
you'll be nice, we'll be nice." Then I do my usual when people I don't know
are putting their hands on me in any form or fashion... I yell at the top of
my lungs "YOU'RE TOUCHING ME!!!" The guy looks surprised, and then hauls
back and slaps me across the face really hard, and I hit the floor. Kim
turns around and starts walking towards us. When he reaches us, he proceeds
to pound the shit out of these four guys... and his eyeglasses never even
fall off. I get off the floor and start yelling at them, "YEAH!! THAT'S
WHAT YOU GET FOR MESSING WITH SOMEONE ON THE KIM THAYIL MERCENARY SQUAD, YOU
STUPID FUCKERS!!! THE KTMS WOULD NEVER LET YOU GET AWAY WITH THAT!!!
HAHAHAHA!! GO KIMBO!!!" Ok... maybe I need to cut back on my consumption
of burritos and Stove Top Stuffing before I crash at nights... ya think? ;-)

Monnica? Heheheh... ok, so you people know me too well. Yeah, I loved
Chris with long hair. But I also loved him bald. And guess what? I even
love him with his wolfboy hairdo. It's not the hair, so much as the face...
y'know? Oh yeah, and I suppose the bod doesn't hurt any. ;-) Chris has
that total angel-devil look going on (those are Dena's words, Lil' Miss
Observant strikes again). He can look both completely innocent, and
terrifyingly evil at the SAME time. Doesn't matter WHAT his hair looks like.
The guy is gorgeous... no doubt about it. I do kinda miss seeing him wear
his hair up in that little ponytail on the top of his head, though. ;-) But
no matter what he does, I'll still love him. How could you possibly NOT love
someone who writes songs like "All Night Thing," "Call Me a Dog," and "Beyond
The Wheel???" Yeah, I know... weird combo of songs, but I've been listening
to a mixture of UMOK, TOTD, and No Code today. Just thought I'd mention this
(even though it has no SG content)... No Code has totally changed my attitude
about PJ and Eddie Vedder. You're right Caryn, he isn't depressed on this
album... and there's NO whining! Life is really good sometimes. =)

80, I guess". St. Peter says to him "Fine, fine, ....uh, what brand of

Gee... that sounds awfully familiar!! ;-) No, I've never "put out,"
either. What exactly is the difference between a fan, a woo girl, and a
groupie? I'm not too clear on that one. Ummm... I've done most of that
stuff that you listed, though. Except wear short skirts. If there's one

Well, I can't surf while SG is playing, 'cuz then I'd miss all the good
stuff. But opening acts are great! Ummm... sorry to everyone who I've

Perry has kissed Dave MANY times during Jane's shows (RIP). They also
smooch during the video for "Mountain Song." And I digitized a picture of
Eddie kissing Chris. Seth has it on the page now. Check it out! Verrry
nice, in my opinion.

>I must say though it would be so incredibly awesome

Ummm... well, honestly that was a joke. Yeah, I've always wanted to see
Chris and Dave kiss... but I'd be really pissed off if he left Susan for any
reason. Well, unless he left her for me, of course. ;-) Heheheh... jeez,
you people know what I mean. Part of my love/respect for Chris (obsession,
if you will) is based on the fact that not only is he an amazing musician,
gorgeous guy, intelligent person, and a total smart-ass... he's completely in
love with and faithful to his wife. He's like the epitome of the perfect
guy, in my eyes. (Obsessed 7 years and counting...) =) But I suspect that
that's the reason that alot of people on this list admire the man so much.

From: ASDrum@aol.com
Subject: Now why can't SG be more like The Cure?

Went to see The Cure Friday night. Wasn't too thrilled with their last
album, but still love 'em. The show was good, but they were better in '94.
ANYWAY, what impressed me most, was they encored with their older tunes -
Boy's Don't Cry, Killing an Arab, and 10:15 Saturday Night (the drip drip
song). These songs were released in 1979 and written when Robert Smith was a
mere youngster. So what does all this have to do with Soundgarden????? Is
it not apparent? WHY CAN'T SG PERFORM SOMETHING RELEASED BEFORE BMF???? Oh
sure, they'll do an occasional 'Hands All Over' live......big deal. It's not
as if the songs from Screaming Life/Fopp and UOK are not good songs. So they
were written when the band was young and still a little green. SO WHAT?
They're still good songs. If they were to play Hand of God (!) - I would
think I had died and gone to Heaven - no pun intended. Perhaps they feel
they have changed as musicians - progressed, matured - and just don't want to
revisit their past. But that's the thing - it was a natural progression from
Screaming Life to DOTU - there were no drastic changes in musical direction
(The Cult being prime example). I have heard Robert Smith say he was almost
embarrassed by the simplicity of a song like '10:15 Saturday Night' - but he
still performed it live Friday night. SG should be proud of what they've
accomplished. Songs like Little Joe, Head Injury, Beyond the Wheel, and
Nothing to Say - IMHO anyway - would play EXCELLENT live right alongside JCP
or Rusty Cage or Mailman or BHS.

So what's stopping them from performing an old tune once in a while??? Maybe
they don't want to alienate a lot "fans" who think Black Hole Sun if their
greatest achievement? But that doesn't sound like the SG I know and love.
The recognition factor could have something to do with it....imagine their
horror if they played Toy Box and nobody knew what it was. But I'd be
willing to bet that there are a lot more of US (you know, the SG elite) in
the audience then they realize.

<sigh>

Forgive my ramblings - I'm upset - and trying to figure out

Many of you might know how I was planning to go to the Chicago concert,
well.....

I can't.

My parents said no. Some asshole-motherfuckers-shitheads told them SG is a
heavy metal band, the Aragon Ballroom is called the Aragon "Brawlroom",
it's in a bad neighborhood, etc, etc, blah, blah, bullshit, bullshit.

I'm not as pissed as I thought I'd be, mainly because this isn't like a
farewell concert or anything. And I'm gonna be out of the house next year
and I go to whatever the hell concert I want. SG *will* be back, no doubt.
If this was their last concert ever, hoo boy, then would I be pissed.

So, out of the goodness of my heart, I'm going to sell my 2 tickets to
anyone on SOMMS who wants to go. Yes, I could just sell them to some poseur
fan on the street, but I know a SOMMSter would get much more out of the
concert and enjoy it much more. I don't have the tickets yet, I don't know
when I'll get them, and the concert is still 2 months away. But, whoever is
interested, please e-mail me. I'll have a drawing of some sort, and someone
will walk away with 2 tickets to the Nov 9 show in Chicago. I will, of
course, post again and have a deadline when I actually have the tickets in
my hand.
