Laundry? You mean all three of the shirts that Kim takes on tour with
him? Quite possibly. Killing fish? Maybe. Rolling around in the sand?
Hmmm... let's just take a moment to ponder that one... mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...
umm, oops... sorry. Passport renewal? Nah, I think you only have to get
your passport renewed every ten years, or something. Doubt that they're up
for that just yet. Kim is probably hanging out with friends, drinking beer,
and maybe attending a court date. Ben is probably dreaming of all the
European people he's gonna be able to spit on in the next couple months.
Matt is probably sitting in front of his computer, reading our posts, and
laughing his ass off at us. Chris is probably spending quality time with
Susan <sigh> before he leaves (while secretly dreaming of one red-haired
devil, of course... heheheheh). Ummm... when exactly ARE they leaving? The
European dates run from September 16 to October 18th, right? Heheheh... oh
yeeeeeaaaahhh... they'll have plenty of time to get back to Seattle before I
get up there. =) Life is good sometimes. HEY MATT!! You're still invited
to hang out with us at the OK!!! And you can even bring along Wolfboy, if
you wish. We're nice like that. ;-)

Obviously this guy is just out to play. I recently downloaded a

I can register the channel #somms (I think?), if so...I'll need 10
people's nicknames and email address's (send them to srussell@epix.net
or swr@acsu.buffalo.edu). Once I recieve 10 people's nick's and address
(I won't make them up like you know who)...I will post a message saying
I sent the document. If someone else has started this...email me and
I'll post any info that should be passed on.

Remember to email the IRCops to voice your displeasure over Maliki's
registration.

Anything else?

Um, okay, since everyone and their mom is emailing me to get the
latest scoop on #somms, I will try to take care of it in one shot.
For anyone who doesn't care, my apologies. As of last night, we were
allowed back into #somms, the regular original #somms. Jason was in
there, but allowed us in (what a gift....um, sorry, i am done fuming).
Aaron and I attempted to make some sort of peace with him so that he
wud leave us alone. He didn't respond, but eventually gave us ops
(another almighty gift). He never said a word, but eventually left
the room. He did return, however, later on and never said a thing but
was ever-present. Eventually he took off. So, i guess, ignoring an
attention-starved idiot works!! It sucks that he even exists on
undernet, but at least we did not have to keep running from the loser.

OK, enuf said, that is the current news for any who care.

I don't want to start a flame war..we have had TOO many of those

hostile towards others. I wanted to convey the feelings of others like
me who feel this kind of unprovoked maliciousness should stop. Also,
this IRC #Somms power trip thing is very disheartening as well. Why do
people feel they need to be superior over others...(a human instinct
that we can all do without, as for as I'm concerned. At times , I feel
a bit embarrased to know that Matt Cameron reads the digest...reading
how immature some of their fans can be....all I know is...I don't want
to be lumped into that catagory, just for being a proud member of the
digest. I'm sure many others feel the same way. I just hope that people
can start being a little nicer to each other in the respect of having a
common interest.

on the subject of subscribing to the list via means other than the web

i was one of the original subscribers to the list back in summer '95,
and i subscribed after seeing some sort of message about it in
the <alt.music.alternative> newsgroup. (seth, do you remember anything
about this? i can't recall if it was a promo message from you or
someone else, or just a mention of the list in someone's post or
what...any recollections???)

i didn't get web access until mid-fall '95, and i don't think i even
looked at the page until early december. (i know, i know, bad
grote...bad grote...) :)

ANYWAY...the point is that i found out about the list in a newsgroup
and subscribed via a direct message to seth saying something like:
"hey...uhh...you're cool. subscribe me to your cool mailing list
or something." all without any web access whatsoever...

and that's the truth, PBTHPBTHPBTH!!! (picture a girl in an oversized

Just wanted to share a nugget of info about why SG never gets the deluxe
boot treatment. Here is a quote from a personal email sent to me this week.

<snip>

>best and most complete) box sets; but everytime I ask him about

In a way, you can be thankful that SG hasnt recieved the deluxe bootleg
treatment. I've seen copies of the 3 boots listed above for as high as $120
for a 5CD set. Remember: Keep your money out of the bootleggers pockets
and join the trading circles.

versed in all things Soundgarden, a little patience and compassion towards
newbies, please. We were all there once. If I were new to this list, I'd be
TERRIFIED to post after reading some of the latest replies. While these are
not (for the most part) personal affronts, to drip with sarcasm is the same
difference. Whatever happened to peace, love and understanding??!! <---is

My apologies to those who entered my t-shirt give-away - the drawing was
supposed to be Thursday, but I had a family emergency out of town - but
better late than never. The envelope please........and the proud new owner
of a shiny, new, one-of-a-kind SG t-shirt is....DAVID SEARLE. A big round of
applause please. But I don't want too many people to go away empty handed,
so the following runners-up can choose one item from the following (supplies
limited reserve your preference ASAP)

    - Postcard - Flower early band shot w/Hiro (6)
    - Postcard - BMF w/ band photo (1)
    - Postcard - band faces w/yellow SG in the middle (2)
    - SG Air Freshener for the car - scent=patchouli (whatever that is) (1)

The runners-up (runner-ups?!) are:

Shroom, SGardnGrl, Stolen Prayers, The Guitarist, Paul (synha001), Varkey,
Vasant, MandyC, Brian (br12062), and Raul. If you guys already have all of
the above stuff, I apologize.

What else.....oh yeah. While in NC last week, I found a copy of Somms. They
were asking $40, but I jewed 'em down to $30. So whoever wants it for $30
plus postage, let me know and it's yours. It's brand new, still in the
original box. I bought it for whoever on this list may not have it yet - I
already have mine.

Oh - all this talk of trumpets and horns reminds me - I had bought Spin's
Alternative Record Guide (seemed like a good reference tool). I'll type up
the SG stuff for the page if it's not already there, but here's something
interesting: talking about Screaming Life "...most of the space above was
occupied by the powerful, piercing cry of singer Chris Cornell, who sounded
like a goddamn trumpet." Ain't that the truth! Reminds me of Loud Love -
the awesome wailing at the beginning that melts so smoothly into guitar you
can't even tell the difference. sigh

Vasant said: "I think we should have SG merchandise like mousepads,
screensavers...."

Well, do what I did. I bought one of those picture pads for $11, popped a SG
and NIN photo in, and voila, instant mousepad. I change the Chris photo in
there every so often, depending on my mood.

Well, that's it. That's all. I'm done.

It does indeed. You don't think Aust. would be as stupid as MTV and edit
something like that out of a film clip! I still wonder what is sooo bad
about it that MTV cut it out, I mean she doesn't even look dead! I was

surely a wonder to behold. true, it doesn't crunch like kyle petty, wail
like cold bitch or hypnotise like my namesake, but like all soundgarden
songs before it, it has a charm all its own.

but firstly, the lyrics (I will use caps for your sake seth):

	Bleed Together

	I know you're half awake
And no hate and I know how to do it
Hold the door and let it out
Don't get it right or wrong
	No I don't get it

	I know you're half afraid
	Half amazed, all insane
	I know it's all a cage
	And all the rage
	And all together gone

	You and me we're average
With simple minds and lungs, eyes and skin
	You and me we're hopeless
We're nowhere hearts so tear it out
	And open it

	I'm giving blood tonight
	I don't care how, don't care why
	I'm giving blood tonight
I'm feeling just like I could give it all

I know you're sick and alone
	Mothers and circles alike
	We can bleed together

Show me and hand me down
And hang me up along the golden (?)
Show me and throw me out
And hold me down, air me out
	And wind me

	Repeat verse 2

Chorus (I know you're sick and alone...)

	Too altogether cool/cold
	Too altogether numb

I know you're sick and alone
I know you're sick and alone

	Chorus (End).

this song is all about the groove created by ben and matt, and its
dynamic with chris' vocals. ben's bass work is great, easily keeping pace
with the guitars through some fairly snappy phrases. there are a number of
soundgarden songs that call for ben to stick to a mostly plodding
bass-line, but on bleed together he shines, driving the songs the whole
way. matt's drumming is pretty much straight down the line (something
like everyone's favourite never named), but the song doesn't ask for
anything wacky, so that's cool (but by no means is the drumming pedestrian
in any shpar or form). what is truly cool is hearing matt almost puncture
all his skins during the final chorus, especially after so carefully
constructing the buildup in the bridge which leads to the outro.

kim's role in bleed together suffers from a sort of jekyll and
hyde complex. he adds a couple of one or two note embellishments here and
there, but seems content to leave chris almost all riff-responsibility,
both verse and chorus. only twice does he appear to remember where he is -
during his short five second solo, and (magnificently) during the last
chorus, where he snaps out of his reverie to deliver a truly astounding
lead break (alongside chris' singing). it is more inspired than some of
his stuff from dotu, but maybe because it's a bside release the pressure
is off. each time I listen to it, I'm stunned. it makes me think kim has
been listening to his johhny winter.

as he wrote both the music and lyrics, chris knows exactly where
to take this song vocally. unlike karaoke, chris isn't hiding behind any
filters or processors here. his voice is topnotch throughout, his phrasing
a little like no attention, but slower and more controlled. the way he
handles the chorus, particularly the last, is perfect, providing a soaring
stability to the bouncy guitars. his guitar work is also well-paced,
pushing ben most of the way. his tone is kind of similar to that trashy
sort of guns n' roses sound (but *way* better, of course).

also of note is the ty cobb voicebox, which makes a couple of
appearances. it accompanies chris on the chorus, bleating "we can bleed"
in answer to chris' supersonic wail. it also adds some distorted
mumblings to the final chorus, but I can't quite make out what it is
saying (maybe "come and bleed"?).

so after around thirty airings this weekend, bleed together has
become one of my favourite soundgarden bsides. the song is perfectly
arranged and conceived. and despite the mixing being a little dead, the
space between the individual instruments is what makes it so good. all
four guys feed off one another, and don't step on each other's toes in the
process. all in all, a more than worthwhile addition to the soundgarden
catalogue.

now this is probably just my own wild imaginings, but if you read
through the lyrics with a certain mailing list in mind, you can start to
see a connection. in the middle of the night, I actually start believing
that bleed together is about us, chris' commentary on our commentary. on
how we ruminate and pontificate on everything soundgarden, and maybe how
he's laughing at us. and to tell you the truth, they could find much
worse subject matter :)

a ha! what fuckface didn't take into account is that i'm so lazy i
haven't added any of the digests since this little (no pun intended)
situation was created! how's *that* for strategy?

i'm in the middle of moving again, i might someday be able to hook up
my computer again and work on the web page. to those of you who are
waiting for replies from me about this or that, i'll get to it asap, i
promise.
