Subject: on a lighter note...

well, i don't really feel very mean and nasty today and i'd rather not
type a string of insults and profanity so i hope this post won't get
ignored... (read: c'mon people, let's drop the irc crap and get back
to bidness...as has been stated, the best thing to do now is just NOT
USE THE CHANNEL. it'll pass. it's a power trip...)

ANYWAY...leave it to good ol' grote to attempt to break the ice...:)

my brother moved in with us this week, and in his pile of movables my
other roomate and i found a box of trading cards. they were in a
basketball card box, but we opened them and they weren't b-ball
cards...they were "ProSet SpuerStars MusiCards." :) we rooted
through them and were just laughing our asses off...the cards were
printed in 1992...vanilla ice, damn yankees, debbie gibson...all the
greats.

anyway, i left for work this morning while my roomates were still
crying tears of laughter and rooting through the rest of the cards. i
returned later this afternoon and was paging through the daily paper
when i noticed something stuck on the fridge...it was one of the
trading cards. i had stuck the vanilla ice card on the fridge earlier
because it was just so dopey, but now there was a second one...yup,
you guessed it...soundgarden.

my jaw dropped. the photo of the band was kind of washed-out and
bland-looking. chris had the hair, was shirtless and pasty white
(partially because of the washed-out photo.) kim looked the same, matt
had long, floppy shoulder-length hair...but the killer was ben. he had
a big mop of greasy hair just matted down on his head...there was
another picture on the back which was similar but depicted ben even
greasier...shirtless and with really bad hair.

as if all of this wasn't enough (plus the fact that my roomate said he
found the card stashed between tina turner and perfect gentlemen),
here's the bio on the back of the card:

SOUNDGARDEN - #238

A longtime underground fave, Soundgarden is a group with courage. Not
afraid to take the honesty of punk and mix it together with the
heaviness of metal, they play relentless, powerhouse music laced with
hooks, riffs and speed. ALBUMS: Louder Than Love (1989),
Badmotorfinger (1991). MEMBERS: Chris Cornell (vocals), Kim Thayil
(guitar), Matt Cameron (drums) and Ben Shepherd (bass).

heh heh...the publisher is listed at the bottom of the card, but it's
hard to make out... Winterland Productions, maybe? Under that it says
"Rock Express."

oh well, there you have it. the cards are actually pretty nice,
design-wise. sure, they've got the flashy "circus magazine" look with
hot pink, black and leopard-dot graphics, but that's forgivable, i
suppose.

but "powerhouse music"???? i dunno...

and "laced with speed"??? sounds like my breakfast cereal... :)

sorry, i'm in desparate humor mode. PLEASE, FOLKS. BE HAPPY. i'm sure
you'll feel better soon. i'm in the closing stages of a flamewar with
our pal .bug and it's good to work it out of the 'ol system.

don't forget what has made this list great!!! let me recap...

1) haikus
2) merchandising tycoons
3) lawsuits o'plenty
4) hootchies galore
5) lusting after band members (well, not me personally...um...uh...
but it's fun to watch... :) ewww...
     				that didn't sound good..... :) )
6) rental hubbies
7) law and order (courtesy of the list thug and newbie-stompin' caryn)
8) above all, a rockin' list membership and meaningful dialogue...so
     let's keep it that way...

that is all...don't make me be cute and cuddly and pacifying again...i
don't think i can stomach it more than once... :) i just got done
wading through two cd-roms full of saturday night live multimedia
stuff so you caught me in a good mood...tomorrow i get grumbly again
like everybody else... >:-<

later...

up again. every time it just turns into a big power struggle, and lately
it seems to be that those "self-righteous" individuals on the list have
decided to take it upon themselves to clean everything up. this type of
internet fascism, for lack of a better term, really just bites me in the
ass. maybe i am a fool for believing that THE chris cornell actually
wrote this post, but nonethelss, it makes me sick to think that these
kinds of power struggles are happening within a group of people who have
contact with each other solely and as a direct result of soundgarden's
music. when i listen to SG, i have always felt that what the music is
about is living as best you can in a less than perfect world. on this
list, sometimes i feel like i'm watching some kind of perverted political
nonesense. i can see that on tv on every fucking channel any time over
the next two weeks. it seems like people like caryn and shroom provide
good content to the list, but they can't take what they dish out.
neither hesitates to throw flames out there, yet at what seems like the
drop of a hat or a mildly rebuking note, it's like on big gang bang, with
those people who have supposedly been on the list longer taking sides and
a conmdescending attitude. i continue, and will continue, to subscribe
to the list because of the information and interesting trivia i receive
from everyone, but reading everyone's complaints about this, the list
should be called bitch session, not somms. for all the talk about people
needing to clean up the flames and grow up and respect each other, i see
the least respect coming from those who protest the loudest. those in
glass houses, know what i mena vern? in any casei will feel free to use
my delete key in the future, as i have in the past, but this high and
mighty attitude about being here the longest is bullshit. not if it were
about being here the longest, soundgarden would never have been able to
put chief sealth's lyrics to "into the void" because that letter never
would have been written. whether or not chris cornell actually posted to
the list is irrelevant, even though that would really be cool and make
me, as well as i assume everyone else, feel really good, but assuming he
did, the fact that his one reply ever is a rebuke for being a bunch of
whiny assholes is jsut plain poor. if i were in a really cool band and
had devoted fans as sg does, and i saw this kind of petty stuff going on,
i'd be sick as well. nice to see we made a good first impression. flame away

Hi Everyone!!!!

The more I read about the shirts the more I wonder how many Screen printers
did he go to????
It seems to me the that every time someone posts to the list that they
recieved their shirts the quality and COLOR of these shirts( the shirt itself
and the printing) seem to vary greatly!!!!!! Is it just me or what??? Has
anyone else notice this???

>>Overall it is
>>not bad, although the wording ,on the back of the twisted fork,is difficult
>>to read.blue against red background.

OK.. did'nt Vikki say that when her mom told her what the shirt looked
like...Her mom said that the shirt wording was purple and the fork was
blue??? whoa... excusew me??? is the wording Purple or was it Blue???

I have be pretty silent up to this point regarding the shirts. I was never
one to blast Nothingman for the LACK of shirts because I made some for
myself and others.Yet as the days go by I find myself getting more and more
upset with the fact that the shirt that I paid for has STILL not arrived!!!!
I have a few theories of what Nothingman did once he recieved our money but I
am not gonna go into that right now. What I do have to say is this......... (
and I am sorry to have resorted to this!!!but I see no other way as to
getting the merchandis that I paid for with my hard earned money!!!)

NOTHINGMAN........CAN YOU HEAR ME?????........ it's high time to deliver
those shirts!!! either PAY UP... GET US THE DAMN SHIRTS....or PAY the
CONSEQUENCES....you have had more than enough time to finish it!!

If you don't think that I am serious...JUST TRY ME.... I will be going to the
post office to file a complaint against YOU..... and when thats finished I
will be mailing Caryn or the Mayor for your personal address and phone
number.....so you better count on the fact that I WILL BE IN TOUCH!!!!!!!!!!

"HI SHROOM!!!"
People have been pointing this out to me for years, but I can't seem to

Subject: stuff, and an apology

okay, here's the apology first: it never dawned on me that people on this
list don't have web access, because i never saw this list anywhere until i
encountered it on seth's page. seth and i have even discussed how it
puzzles us that people don't explore the page even a little, because they
have to go there, through several levels, to sign up.

he does get the occasional sub message from people who hear about us from
friends.

so, i'm going to apologize for any flames that resulted from this. but,
these are the assumptions that i made. and, as reasonable people, you can
see what my reasoning was. it was incorrect, so for that i apologize.

one thing i would like to point out -- my flames are never name-calling. i
attack what they are saying, not them as a person. most of the flames
addressed at myself and/or shroom lately have been personal attacks, which
is a different thing. so don't say that i dish it out but can't take it --
i NEVER call someone stupid, or a slut, or a druggie, or who knows what.
there is a big difference here.

and as jamie requested, the flaming has ceased, so if we can stop mentioning
it over and over, it will end.

as to the #somms takeover, if you're really interested in how irc works,
email me privately. it's just a method for a truly pathetic individual to
try to get some attention. if we let him have his precious channels, he'll
go away. or maybe not, because he obviously has no other life than to hang
out on irc doing this, as well as netsexing on other channels i won't mention.

*shrug*

off to a record fair tomorrow! maybe i'll pick up some fun stuff!
