The winmail.dat crap is generated by Microsoft Exchange. I've been
forgetting to mention this for a while, but anyone who is using
Microsoft Exchange to send Internet mail should visit
http://www.creativelement.com/win95ann/win95ann5.html#13 and
http://www.creativelement.com/win95ann/win95ann5.html#15, where you'll
find instructions for preventing Exchange from attaching winmail.dat
and putting equal signs at the end of each line. (Thanks for pointing
me to this site, Rob)

Some of you might have noticed in the digest that your messages are
filled with equal signs -- if you're using Exchange, the above sites
will help you fix it.

	I was reading about their setup in a guitar magazine.  Would
someone explain to me the difference between a power amp and a pre amp?
In what series are these connected to the head and speakers?  Is it guitar
to preamp to power amp to head to speakers?  Also, does anyone know what
year(s) Fender made strats with the headstock the same color as the body?
I have only seen one or two of those guitars.  I think Billy Corgan had

This past weekend I was in Kelowna visiting my dad.  Anywhoo, I wanted to
go searching through al the downtown used CD stores.  I mentioned to him
a couple of times about how I was looking for the rare BMF/SOMMS and how the
previous day I had just received my first copy form the Blessed SOMMS goddess.
Anyhow, we were rootin' around this one shop, and what do I come across?
Another BMF/SOMMS.  I was pretty happy, then I found Gruntruck Push (cool album)
Anyhow I was done.  He bought the Best of Cream or something like that. 

Anywhoo, went biking and done some other stuff.  When we got back to his
place he asked me what SG was like, and I said pretty heavy.  He wanted
to hear it, so I played Jesus Christ Pose, then Rusty Cage.  He actually
like them.  Blew my mind.  He has never really liked really heavy stuff.  Oh 
yeah, I also played Ty Cobb.  He liked that too.

hey all...here's a new thread for ya...

am i the only one who has been surprised at the relatively tame 
radio/mtv play of "burden in my hand"??? when i first heard dotu, and 
still today, i feel that burden is by far the most radio accessible 
tune on the album. sure, butow is catchy and beatlesque and all, but i
just don't see it as having the same mass appeal as burden. my 
roomate/bandmate isn't particularly fond of sg, but upon his return 
four weeks ago from a 3 1/2 month jaunt across europe, he overheard me
listening to dotu (which he had never heard before). he rolled his 
eyes at most of it, being a more rootsy-rock lemonheads/gin blossoms 
type listener (oh well...:)  ), but his ears did perk up during 
burden. he said it was by far the best sg song he's ever heard, and i 
caught him humming it the rest of the week. i could definitely 
understand the appeal...burden is one of the few true strum-based 
rhythm tunes that sg has...very different from most of their stuff. i
also told my girlfriend the day after i bought dotu that "burden" was going 
to be one of her favorite songs of the summer...knowing that she really 
doesn't even like sg that much...and i was right. she LOVES it. after that, 
i was firmly convinced that burden could break it big because it's also
one of MY fave sg songs ever, so it crosses some serious musical thresholds.
(my girlfriend likes abba and the cranberries... *shudder*  :)   )

however, i wonder if i may be wrong...

burden hasn't taken off like i thought it would. in fact, i'm already 
hearing butow on various radio stations (so soon after burden's 
release????) and am hearing the dj's give rave reviews to the tune. 
could butow be dotu's "black hole sun???". (incidentally, the 
"girlfriend factor" seems to indicate that the answer is yes...as much
as she likes burden she LOVES butow) not that i care if it does 
or not, but the music biz is just so funny to me...i just laugh when i
see what marketing can do for fairly average songs while quality stuff
is laid to rest forever...

i don't know...butow is a good tune and all, but i guess i just don't 
really have much of an ear for it. it's probably about right in the 
middle of my song preference rankings from dotu...but i just don't 
think it has the same texture and emotion of tunes like overfloater, 
t & t, boot camp or ty cobb. oh well...that's why i can't listen to 
the radio more than 10 minutes at a time, i suppose...me & top-40 just
ain't a winnin' combo... :)

     Hmmm... my mom is pretty good about my SG thing.  She can actually pick
out specific songs by them (mostly from UMOK and BMF).  It's my dad that I
have problems with.  He calls Chris, "That Cornball guy."  And whenever I
mention SG, he's like "Oh yeah, that band with those scummy looking guys in
it.  Oh wait... that's EVERY band you listen to.  Heheheh..."  And you people
wonder where I get my sense of humor from.  But the absolute worst is
whenever I'm around my parents and SG comes on, my dad has to dance to them.
 I'm really really bad about announcing "HEY!!  IT'S SOUNDGARDEN!!" whenever
I hear them... it's like an instinct or something.  And double damn me

boogie."  He doesn't care if we're in the living room, in the mall, or in the
middle of a mechanics shop... he boogies.  And even though I seldom ever get
embarrassed by anything... dad ALWAYS manages to make me blush.  This is the
usual conversation:  
me:   "PADRE!!!  Stop that RIGHT now!!  STOP IT ALREADY!!!"
him:  "What's the matter, pumpkin?  Don't you like Soundgarden?  That Chris
Cornball... he's SOOOOOO cute!!"
     AAAAUUUGGGHHHHH!!!!  Why me?!?  Ummm... yes, I am stuck living at home
again... yes, I am 22 and I should be out doing my own thing... and yes, I
should be working right now... but dammit, I'm bored.  Heheheh... I was

    Well I was just about to go out the computing center and print my resume
    when the mail came. and guess what was in it? Yes My somms T-shirts and
    my cd's from BMG!? And guess what else? Bills, Oh well it was almost a
    glorious day.  Btw can I join the Kim Thayil Mercenary Squad?!  I am
    ClownWithBazooka you know.  Thats right, 5'10"  175lbs of Track Running,
    Electrical Engineering, Girl Chasing, Somms Posting, Bazooka Toting,
    Physics Studying(my other major), Soundgarden Blasting, Print Shop
    managing, Obnoxious Metallica Fan Stomping, etc etc. Anyway the shirt is a
    fairly decent one, the quality isn't the greatest but it's pretty good.
    They are just plain fruit of the loom t-shirts with something printed on
    them. Anyway if we make more shirts in the future, the company I work for
    has expanded to the screen t-shirt business. They are good quality shirts
    too, I could just work out something with the company. That way I would
    just be serving as a liason not, holding any actual funds. All the money
    would go directly to the company. Plus we offer services similar to the
    kind you would find at a mailbox place. So there would be greater and more
    expediant shipping options available. Anyway gotta go, talk to you later.

work Burden in my Hand was played as the top requested song for the day. 
On the *alternative* station, Q101,I haven't heard it too much and it is
certainly not in their top 5 they also play everyday.   The other station
here in town WXRT is  playing Overfloater.    So who knows what's up!

...which means it was completely faithful to the punk ideal, which is what
the ramones represented : Do It Yourself.  you can't play guitar? so what!

i was driving to my aunt's house to watch her kids and pretty noose came on
the radio... i started hollering along at the top of my lungs and when i
happened to glance down at the speedometer i was going over 70 mph on a
55mph rode!  this is seriously dangerous... i am glad i don't have a tape
player cuz i would be a lead foot all the time listening to soundgarden.
then, on the way home burden in my hand came on and of course i had to add
my vocal talents to the song and i looked in my rear view mirror and i
could've sworn the guy behind me was singing it too (or he could've just
being saying angry words cuz now we were going about 25mph on the 55mph
rode). traffic sucks!  but it's so much more enjoyable with good music.

Hi..

I'm back. Not that anyone noticed I was gone..

But anyway, I didn't read anyone else mentioning this, so I will. In
Edmonton they're advertising this interview w/ SG (to be conducted by the
band 11) that will be on the air here on Monday night at 11pm.. SG will
supposedly be broadcasting live stuff. I assume that it'll be on the rock
radio network, so it should probably be on whatever station you listened to
SG on Rockline on... I guess call your radio station and ask.

Before I left (on Saturday) I saw an ad on TV for "Soundgarden to be
interviewed from a secret location". Did anyone see the show? (E-Now or
something). I missed it.. :(

Weird.  Our "alternative" station here, Z101.9, has not YET played an SG song since DOTU came out, but our "rock" station WEBN plays Burden very very often, Butow frequently and Pretty Noose quite often too....guess which station I have been listening to this summer?!?!

I'm going to seattle next weekend and am frantically trying to put together
an itenerary. Which seafood restaurant would be recommended (perhaps where
CC did his time pre-SG?)? And where the hell is that 'singles' building? I
do know that the *stars* hang out at the Crocodile, I did infact see Kim in
there twice on a jaunt there about 1 1/2 years ago. So the pool table was
removed, but is the hole that Ben punched in wall still there? Just
curious.

U2: Sunday Bloody Sunday

This song only needed to rock a little more to be realy kewl when U2 did it.
SG could
realy make it rock! chris has the perfect voice for it. Matt's great at
drumming the way
this song requires it, very Loud!!! (think back to the Ultramega OK days)
and ben would give it more bass, it needs more bass. It would be good, oh
yes very good.

Nine Inch Nails, Head Like A Whole

Head Like a Whole is kicks! It would sound better more rock and less techno.
NIN gets close in a few of there remixes but SG could realy fierce it up.
Matt could drum the whole thing where NIN used sythisizers and give it that
real feeling that it lacked
(if you doubt matt could match a sythisizer beat for beat then listen to
Jesus Christ Pose) 


Sponge, PLowed: As if this song needed help, it would just be kewl to here
them play it


Dire Straights, Money For Nothing:


now I know at first glance you might think this a strange song for them to
cover but if they slowed it down a little, gave it a new beat and a steady
bass line, you would have 
a realy kewl song



Creadence clear Water Revival, Bad Moon


It needs to be a litle less country and a lot more rock. "soundgardenized"
it would
be much heavyer, with major distortion and a hard drumbeat. It would rock!!!


Summer in the city, artisit unknown to me (I'm stupid)


This would be the ultimate!, I've had this cover playing in my head all
summer long.
I don't know if thats the real title of the song but the words are something
like
"hot time, summer in the city, back of my neck gettin dirt and gritty" I
could just hear chris wailing that out, maybe adding a few vocal fills like
some "yeah's" or maybe some of  his old, realy high "Whoooooooo's". Kim's
playing lead and adding guitar bridges evrywhere while chris playes the
rythem heavey. Ben's bassline would be something realy wild but still in
tune with the rest of the guys (like on burden in my hand). I can just hear
it! realy! I only wish I new the real title of this song and who does it...
if some
one could please tell me I'd be realy happy.

     I've been at work for 13 hours and I don't give a #$*@%! if 
     this report ever gets published.  I have the 'Launch' CD in 
     my hand and I promise to get a review with as much of the 
     lyrics as I can decipher posted before I do a stitch of work 
     in the morning.  I was under the impression that 'Launch' 
     was a magazine that included a bonus interactive CD.  Nope.  
     Launch is itself a CD -- a double CD in a single jewel case. 
     If anyone can't find a copy or order it from the Launch 
     internet site let me know and get a copy to you.  I bought 
     it for $10.81 (including tax).

 After hearing the airbus reconstuction of that song i was left thinking that sg

With the talk about the Kickstand t-shirt and having recently seen the
Soundgarden shirts that were available at Lolla, I was thinking about
potential Soundgarden merchandise for the upcoming tour/tours. If I
remember correctly, the only SG-related stuff for sale at Lolla was
the shirts, one with the DOTU album cover on it, and one that said
"Tour '96-'97" or something like that on it.

What would be cool to have for sale at the upcoming shows? Personally,
I'd like to see some shirts with the old SST-era "S" logo on them --
like the one Matt wore during the Pink Pop festival -- since it was
brought back this year with the PN video. I'd love to have a hat with
that logo on it.

What else would be interesting to buy? Stuff besides t-shirts and
hats? Any thoughts on any type of merchandise and/or designs are
welcome...
