Some of you might think this is just a bunch of crap but being a drummer I
pay attention to things like this. I know Matt has used the weird
pink-spraypainted symbol bass drum head playing with Hater and on the
alternate Pretty Noose video; the Ayotte logo head he uses now, but there's
one head that I've seen him use once that I want to know about. On SG's SnL
performance, look closely at Matt's bass drum head. It says something! WHAT
THE HELL DOES IT SAY??? Somebody please help me out!!!

with all the talk of old shirts, new shirts and what we might do
going on, it led me to think again about the somms shirt fiasco last
night; and even though the whole process has turned into a debacle of the
highest order, I feel that there is probably some silver lining to this
black cloud over the list. I know this probably won't placate many
listers who are going to receive a shirt which is most assuredly *not*
what we ordered, but here goes.

from all reports, the shirt does not conform exactly to what we
voted for. but (I know this may sound like a very small consolation) I
think that the shirt, all imperfections aside, will still be something for
all somms-listers to cherish. it is, of course, the first soundgarden-list
shirt to produced. while it may be imperfect - I haven't got mine yet,
so I don't know how bad the damage is - the shirt is still symbolic of
the somms list and the diverse community which we have built around our
admiration of soundgarden's music. so even while you wear it (hopefully),
just remember what it represents, and that in ten or twenty years time
you can tell new listers that you once owned the infamous somms-shirt.

I know that this probably...no, definitely deserves more than a
quick paragraph at the bottom of an unrelated post, but in an effort not
to clog inboxes I will tack it here. seth, the new 'song of the month'
section has roundly kicked my ass this morning. I knew that it would look
good, but you have certainly outdone yourself this time 'round. all the
images are superb (particularly the use of the video captures down the
side) and the text is a great tribute to timeless soundgarden song (I'd
just like to add that I own the promo, not on cd, but on lovely vinyl).
congratulations on a fine piece of work.

This statement relies on the false theory that you cannot be both a
Soundgarden and a Metallica fan. I love both Metallica and Soundgarden.
Infact they are my two favourite bands. Infact i know a lot of people who
like both. Although i would agree that there are a lot of narrow
minded stupid Metallica fans (don't forget Metallica has a lot of fans to
choose from) but there are also a lot of narrow minded stupid Soundgarden
fans(none of which are on this list of course :)
Just because there seems to be a lot of idiot Metallica fans at Lolla
concerts stop assuming we are all the same.
If i started saying how PEarl Jam or Alice in Chains or Tool sucks constantly
(i would never say that because i love those bands) i bet heaps of people
would start flaming me and telling me to shut up.

Subject: sg response

I just wanted to say a few things about everyone who is ragging on Chris
Cornell for either drinking or being drunk etc... Why is it everyone's
business what, where, and when he decides to drink? There is nothing wrong
with drinking and it makes me wonder how old most of the somms people on this
list are? Maybe not of drinking age yet? I don't understand why it is any
different for CC, it isn't like he is doing anything offensive to anyone. Let
the man drink!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also I have not been to Lolla, but my main reason for not going was because I
cannot stand the huge crowds and having to deal with unruly fans (like what
most of you said about the metallica fans). I was very surprised that SG
decided to play Lolla, just because they aren't very into the whole
mainstream music scene, and certainly don't seem to enjoy all the BS that
goes along with it. So it does not surprise me at all that at this point all
the members of SG have pretty much had it with the whole Lolla scene and seem
ready for it to end, ex. Ben yelling at fans, CC being drunk (maybe?), etc...
Who cares anyway! I just hope that SG has the best time they can possibly
have being the BEST band right now! Let them live a little!

Hmmm. This has some possibilities. In all seriousness, why not
democratically pick a date on the (hopefully) headlining tour. We can try
to get as many sommsters as possible to gather and we could have sortof a
mini-convention. We could let the band know about it, and who knows?
Maybe they'll even show up to hit us while we try to take pictures!
I nominate Boston (cambridge). Not only because that's where I was born

Yeah, we almost did it. We kicked some ass, took some names. I found great
joy in it. I almost considered it my newest calling. And I have a Log of what
went on in the channel if anyone wants it. Let me know and it's yours. BUT
TAKE NOTE!!! The "W" guy we couldn't de-op was a REGISTERD BOT, or Undernet

continue to use undernet. It's like going on the White House tour with a

me or my cohorts know of to deop the BOT, so it is an exercise in futility.

Maybe we should declare war on the #metallica on effnet? The K.T.M.S. stands

Grote, the problem is there are lots of people out there who do not
have the desire to really *listen* to music. It is not a part of their
life it is just the soundtrack that plays behind their everyday actions.
And with most people attention span these days being an average of about 3
minutes(gee, just long enough to watch the newest *cool* video on MTV) they
are not going to put out the effort to find good new music or even
rediscover good old music. It's too much work! So they will let the "hot
hit" radio stations choose what they like and don't like. I agree it is a
shame. Alot of people settle for lame, uninspired, play it until you want
to puke, popular music. It's easier that way!!! All we can do is
continue to support the bands we like and spread the word. And don't
expect things to change. I forgot the most important reason that there are
Top 40 stations. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$- that's the bottom line!
The record companies and the radio stations make money when people listen
to their repetitive drivel. The sponsers(who pay the bills) are happy, the
radio station is happy and the record companies are happy! And we the
listening public are either content with what they spoon feed us or have to
go to great lenghts to hear the music we want to hear! toni

i know this is a few days past due, but...

it's extremely unlikely that sg will ever play any kind of unplugged
show whatsoever, imho...however, as was suggested before, an album
recorded acoustically would be kind of cool. although i probably would
cringe at seeing sg release an album of acoustic "hits," here's the
existing sg songs that i think would translate well to an acoustic
setting...

1. gun
2. dusty
3. fresh tendrils
4. burden in my hand
5. hands all over (a bitchin' slide guitar player would help on this
   one)
6. searching with my good eye closed
7. like suicide
8. mind riot
9. fell on black days
10. boot camp (w/ some effects, or it would probably sound a bit flat)
11. 4th of july
12. show me
13. head down

oooh...that would be a good set. yup yup.

(just for kicks, it would be kind of funny for them to rip into
"circle of power" or "beyond the wheel..." i don't think those poor
bronzed strings could handle the onslaught...)

later...

It is our business as to what, where, and when Chris drinks
because it fucks up his voice. In an interview a few years
back, Chris specifically stated that he shuns drinking when
on tour because it adversely effects his performance. This
year, however, Chris himself (& many of the journalists who
interviewed him for DOTU/Lolla promo articles) are the ones
who keep bringing up the what, where, and whens. Actually,
I really don't think Chris is drinking all that much on the
tour. What IS a serious problem is his chain smoking. The
guy refuses to vocalize -- saying that not only does it not
help the ease of his performance, but that it actually makes
his voice more tired than had he done nothing. Why won't
anyone enlighten him to the fact that if that's the result,
HE'S DOING IT WRONG!!! 1) He need to get 'The Patch'. And,
     2) Vocalize. When Caryn said that he failed my voice test
at the Gorge, I got a big, ugly lump in my own throat. And
now they've canceled their last Lolla performance because
Chris apparently strained(?) his chords. At 32 yrs. (and
don't argue with me over whether or not 32 is old), his
     voice is(has) changing(ed). It's a fact. Chris has better
control over his voice now than in years past but his range

i agree. the whole point of undernet is that it's a more civilized
atmosphere than effnet. i spent an entire year in channel wars with
"dOOdz" and "punks" who thought it was their god-given right to take over
#pearl_jam because they hated them. what happened the other night on
#metallica was just as bad and it's go to stop. we'll NEVER be allowed to
register #somms if we keep this up.

on that note, anyone have any interest in running a bot? i don't. i will
be glad to register the channel on undernet (if i get some people who are
willing to be responsible -- jerm, seth, mc cheese, srussell, who else?
we need at least five). but i don't know how to run a bot nor do i have

realistically we need two locations: east coast and west coast. people in
the middle can choose which side based on airfare considerations.

and for the west coast, of course, there IS no choice...

Seattle!

yes, come to lovely seattle, eat seafood, go bowling at west seattle bowl

Having a convention here sounds good to me. You all have a standing
invitation to stop by whenever you're in town anyway, but if it were
arranged so that a whole bunch of people were in town at the same
time, that would be great. Granted, if more than 2 people are going to
attend the convention, I don't think I can provide lodging. :)

Also, did anyone hook a tape deck to your sound card and record the
broadcast of the interview with Matt on Friday? I briefly considered
doing it before the chat started, but I forgot, and now of course I
would really like to have it on tape. I'd be willing to provide a tape

i don't think susan gets a lot of attention. i personally think she
maintains an extremely professional profile at all times. it's the media
that insist on reminding us all that she's married to chris. it's
irrelevant. (and as a matter of record, she didn't want to manage them,
but at the time there was no one in seattle that had any experience with
indie bands.)

and lest we forget, she also manages Alice in Chains? And she used to
share an office with Kelly Curtis, Pearl Jam's manager? I think they also
almost went into business together but the bands got to be too big.

>or
> vice versa, they weren't married but she still managed them?

i think she'd still get a lot of attention as a woman in an arena where
there are still few successful role models, and also just as a talented
manager and businesswoman of two very successful bands.

and personally, i see her getting more attention because of the facts
above than she gets as mrs. chris cornell <gag>.

and you all wonder why she doesn't go with chris to the grammies???

I think she gets the attention because she is both. How many other
managers of major bands get that kind of attention? It is because she
is married to someone that women would kill to be married to! And the
fact that they pull off their relationship while still working
together so closely. I think there is also a fascination with any
major rock star that has been with the same woman (i am assuming!) for
10 years - pretty rare. I also think she has gotten a lot more
pub. since AIC recently became headline material (to the average music
listener, not us long-time devotees). America is so fascinated with
this kind of stuff - would we even know Tom Arnold without Roseanne?
How much extra publicity has Dennis Rodman received because he had a
thing with Madonna? It is the connection of celebrities that
fascinates society, and the fact that there is an endless curiousity
about Susan because of the "seemingly unattainable" Mr. Cornell.

Good bedtime thought!

amen, sister. eddie vedder has been seen with a cigarette in his hand
every time he's been in public lately. he's got to be STUPID to think

i think a lot of rock performers refuse to take voice lessons or vocalize
or warm up because they think it removes the 'edge' or the spontaineity of
their performance, which is bullshit. it would just enable them to
perform longer without getting so damned tired.

he is a schmuck, he played outdoor venues in varying weathers and
climates, changing daily. humidity (or the lack thereof), heat, cold,
dust, pollen -- all those things affect his voice. and as you get older
you just are less invincible than you were when you were 22. fact. you
CAN stay up all night, you'll just need more time to recover from it.

i personally think they were fed up and wanted to come home already.

and as to the metallica fans, if i go on #somms and get interrogated by
ANYONE as to what other bands I like besides soundgarden as a condition
for being 'allowed' to stay there, i personally
will have you banned from channel. ANYONE from the list is allowed there,
anyone who is interested in soundgarden is alloed there, i dont' care if
they like metallica, bush, stone temple pilots, or any other band that
i/you hate! there were people at lolla who billed themselves as
soundgarden fans who were just as offensive as the metallica fans, and
there were rancid fans there that i wanted to kill as well. the tour is

to be a big topic of discussion around here...so cool to know what
masses of SG devotees there are. I'm here in Cincinnati, where
country is the big thing - GAG!

Well,Susan Silver manages Alice in Chains and Her name doe not come up very
often

How about just right in the middle of the country so it is convenient
for everyone? I do agree that Seattle is the only choice for the West
coast - but we would probably have a harder time just keeping it a
list convention. Just my $.02. I've never been but am planning a trip

realistically we need two locations: east coast and west coast. people in
the middle can choose which side based on airfare considerations.

and for the west coast, of course, there IS no choice...

Seattle!

yes, come to lovely seattle, eat seafood, go bowling at west seattle bowl
(site of the headbanger's ball bowling match [thanks andrea]), and of
course, 'a sound garden'. get drunk and run around magnusson park. hang
out at the ok hotel. stand in front of the 'singles' building in the same

okay gang, let's be realistic...

there's no way in HELL the band are going to play a private gig for list
members only. or maybe a fan club/list gig. but let's be real here. i
was joking... more or less thinking that when the band play seattle, it
would be nice for a bunch of us to get together. but a *real* convention,
with hotel rooms and convention rooms and the like, is a SHITLOAD of work,
money, legal problems... and is beyond our reach, at least at the moment.

that was the whole reasoning behind the tshirts... so we had a way to
identify each other at lolla. hopefully... we will have them by the
fall/winter tour (or at this rate, we might just have new shirts by then).

and right in the middle of the country wouldn't necessarily be the most
convenient for everyone. if that was the case, all conventions would
always be held in kansas city or st. louis or something like that...

i really like the sound of this convention thinge, and being only 17,
its in the hands of my dad whether i can go or not, if there is one, and
he better let me go or i will use the power of the soundgarden to stick
cheese in his ears. anyway, i stayed in a holiday inn before during a
marching band trip to virginia, an dwe were in this one room with two
queen size beds... anyway, the cost of the roo was something like $110 a
night... are we gonna have to pay that for ourselves, or do we get some
kind of niffty discount, or what? if this thing does happen, that is.
and i really want to go... :)
another thing i noticed is that the day i made my helix account
(stolen.prayers@helix.xiii.com) is exactly two years since i first saw
soundgarden (6.14.94) in rochester... great, great show.. but i would
have to say the second time i saw em (pownal lolla) was the greatest,
because i was really close to the stage and i could even read chris's
hirt and i got in the moshpit.. (uh.. SHIRT, not HIRT) at rochester, it
was my first real concert, so i kinda got winded from being so squished
and moshed :) so i ended up sitting in these seats about a mile away
fromthe band.. ok, the rochester war memorial's not that big, but it was
a lot farther away than i wanted to be... i was right in front for lolla
at pownal, and at the ferris lolla i was kinda far away, also in texas
it's REALLY hot.. too hot for a fat lil new york kid like me :) so i
kinda felt like shit while they were on... i dunno... im just glad i've
gotten to see soundgarden three times :) damn, i wish i knew what's
going on with chris's voice...

Subject: San Jose, CA, Lollapalooza. Friday, Aug 2.

Hello Sommians, (long-ass) post!

I just wanted to give my quick impression of Lolla this year and as a Lolla
first-timer and a rare presence on the list, I couldn't keep quiet enough! I
realize that someone already gave their review, but I'll try to fill in any
missing parts. I just finished reading the few other posts of the SJ show and
only wish that we all could have met up somehow!! Oh well, maybe next time.
Well, I got there at around 1:00 to meet another SOMMS member, but
unfortunately that never came around (sorry, Jen!). I proudly wore my 1994
tour short with Mr. Screaming Elf, but failed to attract any other list
members. I never really got a chance to see Psychotica and Rancid mainly
because I hit the beer garden pretty early! The main stage was set up in the
main field inside the stadium and the all the other stuff(2nd and 3rd stages,
booths, beer) were outside in the smaller fields. They had the whole main
field covered with this "blanket" so sitting down was rather comfortable. By
the time we made our rounds, we kicked back and watched the Screaming Trees. I
hadn't seen them since their 1993 tour with the Spin Doctors, but they really
ROCKED! All of the members were totally into it and the crowd was pretty well
behaved. It was fairly hot out there and the sun was directly overhead which
meant that my previously confiscated bottle of water was meaning a lot more to
me! After the Trees' set, we went back through the beer garden and well, you
know.... When the Ramones came out, I decided that would be a good time to st
art making my way into the front for SG's set. All that I could remember from
the Ramones was that notorious "1-2-3-4.." from Johnny and a brilliant 45?
minute long set without any breaks. I tried taking some pictures with one of
the two disposable cameras that I smuggled in, but I was way too far for
anything impressive. During the intermission before the Devo set, I made my
way to the inside corner of the left part of the T barricade. It was a perfect
view for any kind of lead singer pictures! Devo finally came on after what
seemed to be an eternity and they let loose with, of course, Whip It. They
came out dressed in their yellow jumpsuits and eventually managed to tear most
of it off each other by the end of the set! They were absolutely hilarious to
watch! At one point, the lead singer, (what the hell's his name?) actually
came out, jumped on the barricade, leaned over and yelled to the crowd, "ARE WE
NOT MEN??" and the crowd responded "WE ARE DEVO!!!" Seeing that the audience
was around my age, (21 and younger), I was totally surprised to see how much
they knew the songs! Not only did Devo play Whip It and Satisfaction, they
also played Girl U Want. It was the first time I had ever heard THEIR version
and it really kicked butt! Those guys really worked hard and credit was
definitely due to them. AND THEN after a long wait, SG CAME ON!! I was so
excited when I saw the band, I almost shat my pants!! (sorry for the
imagery--two years of bundled up energy does that to you!) Chris had some ora
nge shirt on with "Clean and Serene" written on the back, Kim, well Kim was
Kim,..couldn't see Matt all that well and Ben looked in a real chipper mood.
The songlist was the same as the past shows, but Chris' voice was masterful.
When they opened up with Spoonman, the crowd simply snapped(of course, not as
bad as Ty Cobb!). Thank God I was in the front, because the people immediately
behind me were holding on for dear life trying to avoid being sucked in by the
writhing pit(s). Just being able to hear Chris after the disappointing SNL
appearance was totally refreshing. Pretty Noose was totally on. It didn't
seem like he was straining at all and he seemed to have a constant smile on his
face throughout the whole set. Chris also passed the "she's resolved to
beeeeeeee!!!!" test from Let Me Drown....Simply awesome. As someone mentioned
earlier, Chris was doing his share of audience bantering by making fun of the
people in the nosebleed sections saying "why aren't you motherfuckers standing
up in 207??" Then he went on and yelled at some people in the back of the
stadium, calling 'em "cocksuckers" for not standing up, or something like
that....Great! Great! I was laughing my ass off! At one point, Ben was
standing in front of Chris during one of the songs making some dumb-ass faces
in front of him, trying to make our beloved singer crack up. The whole band
seemed to be in a good mood and so was the crowd, except for one person who
tried throwing a Reef sandal at Chris--he just hurled it right back! Ben and
Kim were constantly switching positions, Ben kept on making really fucked up
facial and body contortions and Matt just fuckin' flew on his kit. (Sorry
ladies, Chris didn't take off the shirt!) I took out my cameras and was
constantly taking pictures of all the band members. I had to use them quick
because SG came on right before sunset, so the light was turning shitty. The
set itself was great, but I thought it was a bit too short. By the time SG
left the stage, I was almost dead from exhaustion and my shirt was soaked with
the sweat of what must have been a thousand drenched bodies, so I made the
smart move of getting out before the Metallica set. I DO have to say that
Metallica's set was great!, but anyway, I'll try getting those pics uploaded
(if they turned out allright). I also met a LOT of die-hard SG fans who didn't
know about Seth's web page....Hopefully they'll be joining us soon.

Thanks for reading( and your patience),

Kazam

Or how about bands that have songs written by other bands using their names;
i.e: Ash's latest single 'Goldfinger' & the band Goldfinger. um... Billy
Ocean's 'Loverboy' & the band Loverboy. I believe Metallica has a song named

Yes, I'm sure you've heard of it.

It came with a '91 issue of Reflex Magazine.

It has two unreleased songs.
(Well, one of the songs, "She's a Politician" is on SOMMS, but not all of us
have that.
The other song cannot be found anywhere else, it's "Christmas with the
Devil" by Rights of the Accused.)

It is in VG+ condition. Still plays just fine.

And the opening bid is $35 US funds(that includes 1st class S&H). No
trades, please. I'll announce the highest bid once a day. The auction will
close on Saturday, August 10 or when I have not recieved a higher bid in two
days.

I'll announce the winner on Sunday (unless they ask me not to.)
I reserve the right to not send the record until I recieve payment from the
winner.

Got it? You know you want it.

Hi Seth.
Great Soundgarden page. I'm just writing to let you know that
Soundgarden did indeed play the final Lollapalooza show, at Irvine
Meadows on Aug. 4th. I drove 2.5 hrs from Santa Barbara to see it,
so if they hadn't showed, I would have been pissed!
Chris Cornell's voice did sound a little ragged on the first
few songs, but by the time they got to Rusty Cage, it sounded fine.
The solo version of Black Hole Sun was excellent (voice sounded great);
they did not do the Doors cover that I've been reading about in the
reviews on your page.
I'd be pleased to submit a more extensive review on the page,
but the tour's over, so you are probably shutting that down...
This seems to be the second major voice-related tour problem
for Soundgarden. Is Chris ruining his voice by wailing the way he
does (the classical music trained non-fans in my lab keep saying
"Man, that guy's wrecking his voice" every time they hear some of the
songs...)? Maybe you could discuss this on the page.
Well, to wrap up, Soundgarden was excellent at the final
Lollapalooza show, and, again, great page.

personally, if chris cornell drinks a little it won't worry me.
that is his business, pure and simple. but if he starts to drink more than
he can handle, and if it then begins to affect his singing talents, live
perfomances, and most importantly, the band, then it would be cause for
concern. no-one on the list (at least anyone in their right mind) thinks
they can tell chris when and how much to drink. that would be absurd. but
soundgarden is, of course, pretty important to us all, and if a band
member's actions threaten the band's performance or (at a stretch)
existence, then that is more than enough reason to be concerned. it comes
down to a question of degree, I guess. I just hope, for obvious reasons,
that chris' drinking (did he once refer to himself as an alcoholic?)
doesn't ever adversely affect the band in any way. it would be terrible,
to say the least. so before you start scoffing at people for being
concerned, ask yourself this: is it so wrong to care?

I'm a big Soundgarden fan who has been seeing them live in concert
since 1987. I've never been disappointed by this band... but their WA
Lollapalooza performance was a big dissapointment. They have
obviously become big rock stars...and I don't consider that a bad
thing. But cmon guys...your rock star posing and theatrics are a
joke!

I think the money and fame has gotten to these guys. The one thing
you could always count on Soundgarden for was giving a solid rock show
with minimal rock starness. Now we get a lot of coreographed poses,
rock star theatrics, and a very uninspiring(and preplanned) knocking
over of the amps.

Chris Cornell's voice was shot...he has been having problems with it
for many years. Kim's guitar playing was top notch...as was Matt's
drumming. Ben's bass playing was muddy and not very good. He liked
to prance around a lot like a star though.

I'd kill to have the old days...when these guys would play great shows
at local clubs here in Seattle. I'll never forget seeing them at the
UTC Hall in January of 1987...I knew they were a great band. But they
need to get back to the basics and make some good music and forget
about being rock stars. That probably won't be easy to do.

Subject: irc on aol

well some people asked me to re-post this message so here it is:

WARNING!!! THIS IS A LONG-ASS MESSAGE ABOUT AOL AND IRC IF YOU DONT HAVE AOL
OR IF YOU DO AND DONT WANT IRC..DO NOT READ!! NO SG CONTENT!!

this is for all of you AOL'ers who have never enjoyed the joys of IRC.
theres gonna be a soundgarden chat that the list is gonna have on sunday
night to celebrate it's anniversary. If you would like the opportunity to
use IRC..not to mention netscape instead of the shitty AOL web browsers,
just follow these steps:
1) You must have windows 3.1 or win95
2) You must have AOL 2.5, if you dont have AOL 2.5, go to keyword:Update and
download a v2.5
3) verify that there are no copies of the winsock.dll file already on your
computer. If you find other winsock.dll files on your computer, you'll have
to rename them (for example, "winsock.dl_") while you're using AOL's Winsock.

The way you verify whether you have copies of winsock.dll depends on whether
you're using Windows 3.1x or Windows 95.

Windows 3.1x. To verify that there are no copies of the winsock.dll file on
your computer:

 1. Double-click File Manager in the Main program group.
 2. On the File Manager File menu, select Search....
 3. Type "winsock.dll" in the Search For field and press Tab.
 4. Type C:\ in the Start From field.
 5. Check Search all Subdirectories and click OK.
 6. If the search finds any copies of winsock.dll on your computer, proceed
with caution: back up all copies of winsock.dll, then rename them (something
like "winsock.dl_," that is, "winsock.dl" followed by an underscore). If you
are not comfortable backing up and renaming files, DO NOT PROCEED with these
instructions.

Windows 95. To verify that there are no copies of the winsock.dll file on
your computer:

 1. On the Start Menu, click Find... Files or Folders.
 2. Type "winsock.dll" in the Named field and press Tab.
 3. Type C:\ in the Look in field.
 4. Check the Include Subfolders box and click Find Now.

4) Go to keyword: winsock
5) Click on "Click here to automatically download winsock"
6) Download the file into the directory c:\windows
7) log off from AOL
6) exit and restart windows
7) log on to AOL
8) download mIRC..to do this use the shitty AOL browser and go to ()
9) follow the instructions at the site to download and install mIRC,
10)run the 16-bit version of mirc not the 32 bit!! once you have mIRC
installed, run it and go to file, then setup, or just click on the
little yellow folder.
11) make sure youre in the irc servers part of the setup
12) click on add
13) type in irc02.irc.aol.com in the description AND in the IRC server space.
14) put 6667 under port then click on add
15) where it says real name type your name or a pseudonym or whatever
16) put your e-mail address where it says e-mail address.
17) where it says nick name...you guessed it..put the nick you want to use.
alternate is the nick they'll give you if your nick is taken
18) click on ok.
19) it will say unable to resolve local host and then connect
cancelled..dont worry
20) go to setup again then click on local info..now you should see some
stuff under local host.
21) under ip address put 152 then this is the kinda tricky part.
lets say under local host it said 170-19-171.ipt.aol.com then you would
put this after 152: .170.19.171 if it said 125-15-167.ipt.aol.com for local
host then the ip address would be 152.125.15.167
22) make sure that the boxes next to local host and ip address are UNCHECKED
23) click on ok
24) you should be able to connect now, click on file then on connect or on
the little lightning bolt.
25) ok that should be it..you should get a bunch of crap on the screen about
your irc server. then it should say end of /MOTD command
26) click on join #somms, or whatever channel you want to join
27) thats it! enjoy!!

I hope someone will find this info useful, it took me all morning to figure
this out. sorry prodigy and compuserve someone else will have to figure this
out for you. If you have any problems with the setup, just e-mail me and ill
try to help, dont post to the list.
hope to see some of you AOL'ers on #somms

Go to www.cdnow.com then do a search for Soundgarden - they have
t-shirts listed on the bottom and most have a picture of the shirt. I
am sure they send internationally, but the postage might suck. Yeah,
the kickstand shirt is not so hot.

Bonnie, yours WAS as good as the others. I think I forgot to mention =
Ryland's review - that was great too! :-) =20
{I hadn't yet read that one when I commented on Caryn's & Aaron's last =
week.}

So, it seems not only was the Lolla Gorge concert the best one, with the =
best performance by Soundgarden, and the best-behaved crowd, it also had =
the best reviews!! Well done, guys.....

>>For one song, Chris also said,
"This next song, which we recorded for Superunknown, is on the MOM
benefit record, ." =20

Which SG song is on that record? I haven't yet had a chance to check it =
out yet - I'll probably buy it when I do. A few Aussie bands even make =
it on there! Does anyone on the list have it yet? What's the Sprung =
Monkey song like?? (like those guys)

>>We did stay for Metallica (the only reason our friends were there). =
I
had seen them in 89 or 90. Only knew a couple of their songs then and
a few more now. I must say, aside from those of their asshole fans,
they put on a great show as well. I did stay in place with the binocs
and they did a good job............

Thanks for that, Bonnie. It seems the general consensus of the Sommsers =
for the whole Lolla experience is that Metallica are good performers. =
I've only seen one review that disagreed with that - and then of course =
there were some of you who didn't stay to see them at all.

>>I'm really sorry I didn't meet
Aaron (coulda used the list hug to get to the front!) and Ryland; if
that was you, thanks for the sprays! Caryn and Chris, my place was
next to you guys. I shoulda rode with you!!!!!=20

Yeah, that was a downer, the four of you not able to meet up. So near =
and yet so far!!
About the BIMH video:
>>And I remember Dena's first post about
that guy who killed his girlfriend and buried her in the sand and wow,
watching that video really makes you wonder...

Dena, can you please recap that post? I must've missed it. Was there =
in actual fact a guy who killed his girlfriend?? =20

Well, that's it for my comments/questions. I'm actually off to a =
concert tomorrow night myself, to see The Presidents...... Yahoo! :-) =
Looking forward to that one..........

Its a grand idea :) A date in the future needs to be picked tho, one that
ppl can save money for/ apply for holidays / and just get prepared. And as
someone suggested a date that coincides with a tour date would be perfect.
Tho who is going to pay for us overseas sommsters to make it over?? :) Ah
maybe we can all have your own little somms festivals in each country :)
Then the overall winner from each country can be fly over and vist the heart
of sommsland. But the again if SG doing the private somms gig, I think I
would be coming over quick smart :)

my vote (along with your's vasant) has to go with kim. I
personally like kim's feel more than I like mike's. I know some people on
this list don't like mike's work on temple of the dog, but I really don't
mind what he did. it seemed to fit the mood of the album pretty well.
mike has also done some nice stuff with mad season and his mostly fulltime
band pearl jam, not to mention the fact that I can be fairly partial to
blues music (something which mike knows his way around).

having said that, I still think that kim has the goods on mike.
besides being in my favourite band, kim seems to me to be better at most
things. he has a decided advantage in his ability to crunch out huge
riffs. I also think his tone is way better (check room a 1000 years wide
and mailman for future reference). and until superunknown, I would have
said that mike was the better soloist, but since kim kicked my ass with
like suicide, tighter and tighter, and his lead break from time of the
preacher (twisted willie), I have to say that kim is now the more
accomplished of the two. plus, after you consider his (imho) superior
song-writing ability and his much cooler facial hair, you have to give him
the silver medal (jerry cantrell only just pipped him at the post).
