It has come to my attention that the civil rights of some resident

comments (and basically any other situation for which we can further
our financial prosperity and compromise our integrity). Being

include internet mailing lists. For this reason, we offer our

violated. If our services are acquired, "we will work as hard as it

big fans of SG. We really like that 'Won't you Come' song that they

Which songs should Soundgarden cover?
Well if i could choose, from Black Sabbath either Killing yourself to
live or Snowblind. From the Doors When the music's over, from Led Zeppelin
Achilles' last stand, just to see if Kim could do it.

For something less predictable "By the time i get to Arizona" by Public
Enemy.

PS Lets have an official vote who wants Tool to tour with Soundgarden
(provided they come to Australia together).

hmmm.. I would ask Chris if he would like to play cards with myself,
Shroom, Kevin Champagne and Josh Perfetto.. Then we'd all go for a ride
in my Subaru and my friend Juustin would bark out the window at
passers-by... Seriously though, that's a hard question, one I've
pondered a lot when I think about if I'm ever fortunate enough to meet
Soundgarden. I'd ask em what they thought of Seth's web page.. :) Or I
could ask Kim how long it took him to grow his beard, or ask Chris if he
REALLY shaved his head in Hawaii and how it felt after he'd done it...
oh hell, I don't know :) I'd probably just go with the old standard..
"Hey Ben, will you spit on me?" Or better yet, "Hey Matt, do you like

Okay, first things first. Ben Shepperd has been named an honorary member of
the Kim Thayil Mercenary Squad. It's official and once you are a member, it's
for life. Unless you double-cross Kim, then it's instant voodoo death! But we
don't have to worry about that with Ben, or Hunter. So watch out, Hunter/Ben
is on the prowl and lookin' for his first kill. :)

Okay, I will be in a full length feature film titled "Tumor Boy." It stars me
in the story of my life at Lollapalooza '96. It starts off with me in the
shower shaving while singing JCP. Then, you see me driving in my car with
Zero Chance blaring on my stereo, and I'm still singing. Next comes the Lolla
scene. I start off sitting for 2 hours waiting to meet the other list members
all the while working on my sunburn and still singing. The entrance into the
venue. First, I buy a shirt, then head for the rain room. Then in time lapse,
you see my sunburn grow from a pale pinkish glow to a 3rd degree radiation
burn, but I only sing all the words for the Screaming Trees and Soundgarden.
The last thing you see in the film is chunks of my face exploding off of my
face with the eruption of each blister just before fade out. It's a
combination of a comedy/love story/action/horror film. It's got it all. It's
still in post production, but will be out soon.

Sorry, boredom coupled with insomnia sucks. I did see a cool SG shirt at
Lolla., though. I used to have one before it was destroyed in a freak laundry
accident. It has the BMF logo on the front and on the back it had the
SatanOscillateMyMetallicSonatas in a circle printed just like it is on the
SOMMS CD with a smoking gun in the middle. I had forgotten about that shirt,
but thougt it would be cool for the list to adopt the back logo, or a similar
version.

What an attractive image! Had me almost creaming in my pants (and if
you believe that I have some real estate for you). So who is Chris
trying to appeal to, the Beach MTV crowd? Next we'll be hearing that
he's left Susan and is shacking up with Jenny McCarthy (sorry Shroom).
Or maybe he's trying to downplay his "Sex God" image. Or maybe he
really thinks this is cool. Or maybe it was a sarcastic slam at the
wonderful crowds so many of you have described at the recent shows.
Whatever. I'm starting to think its just all a well constructed act.
I've always had huge respect for Chris Cornell as a musician and as a
person, but, and I hate to say it, this stuff is chipping away at that
(as if he would care). What gives, Chris?

I'd like to know what the rest of you think of the image of Chris

Maybe what we need is a "Shirt of the Month" club, kind of like those

send you a shirt!" Seth could add a "Shirt of the Month" link to his page.

Subject: Introductions...

Hello,
I'm new to this mailing list, and I'd just like to introduce myself.
My name is Adrian Simmonds, but you can call me whatever the
hell yer
want. I'm from somewhere called Ipswich, in England but I'm at Uni here
in Coventry. I've joined this list, as I've just discovered about it on
some
SG webpage I found whilst browsing the web in a complete moment of boredom.
I've been into Soundgarden for about four years now, in fact
they're one of my favourite groups. Other fave groups of mine include
Helmet, Carcass (yup, the Death Metal band - well, they used to be),
Dinosaur Jr, Pitch Shifter, Godflesh, Alice In Chains and Anthrax (nothin'
like a bit of good, old-fashioned Thrash).
My tastes in music go right across the board, really, ranging
from from obscure (and not so obscure) Indie and Alternative bands,
through to extreme forms of Metal (ie Grindcore, Death), incorporating
elements of (proper, and note the word proper) Harcore and Punk. I'm
also partial to Trance/Ambient stuff, so you could say I'm pretty well rounded
and diverse musically (I don't like *styles*, I like *music*), so I'm not
just some wannabe Devil-worshipper Metal kid or some manic depressive
Alterna-geek.
Anyway, that's my little introduction over, and at least you all
know who I am now (it's better than me just suddenly posting something
one day at random). That's all.

I think "Looking for Today" off "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" would be an
excellent choice. Great lyrics and an ideal vehicle for Chris's
soaring voice.

I believe the rule is you can use Logo if you ask permission or you
change a part of the logo (i.e., use a different font, or change the
color). I still think we need to come up with a logo that is uniquely

85% of the time Chris doesn't have a clue what to say to an
audience. This is a guy who continually emphasizes how
antisocial he is. Spontaneous, coherent, chitchat are not
his strong suit. I was watching a 1990 boot video the other
night and Chris, fist raised in the air, says to the packed
house, "Tell me to fuck off!" Uh, ok, Chris. Stage banter
does not come easy to him. Also remember, with admitted
childhood influences like Kiss and Alice Cooper, Chris
definitely has a stream of cheese metal/glam rock running
through his blood, too. I guess, sometimes he reverts to
his first images of what a lead singer/rock star is supposed
to act like on stage. He's this physically beautiful,
intelligent, talented man who, night after night, ends up in
front of thousands of screaming lunatics. What's he
supposed to say? He can't very well go into a dissertation
on the state of welfare reform or foreign policy. Think of
what we look like to him! Hootchies flashing him. Jocks
raising devil horn fingers. JD seems right on topic. -Vikki

Well DC has three major airports to fly into, all being
international.. But I'll go with Chicago, in fact I'll go with
Siberia if they would play just for the SOMMs list.. But I rather go
to Chicagoland and dance in poop in Toni's back yard.. Wait, maybe
they will do a concert in North Carolina (part of the sentence for
Kim's run in with the law), then they can do a second show just for
us.. We can all wear tee with the "Free Kim Logo".

Subject: three fish and karen cornell

so last night i went to see three fish. i won't go into the tangent how
they kept us waiting over TWO HOURS past the announced start-of-show,
meaning that my chris had to leave at 11:30 because he has to get up at
4:30 am, and how they played LESS THAN AN HOUR, and how even the fact that
mike mc cready was there and played two songs with them didn't make up for
the fact that the audience was full of snobby fashion victims who looked
askance at me and andrea OR frat boy pj fans in pj shirts...

but i will tell you that when chris and i arrived at 8:55 (for a 9:30
show) the showroom was closed and they told us to go sit in the lounge.

and we sit down at a table and find a flyer there : "READINGS BY KAREN
CORNELL", who was sitting at the table next to us.

me: "chris do you have any money???"
[keep in mind that we spent most of our $$ on dinner before we got there
and decided not to get more $$ so we wouldn't buy tshirts]
chris: "um, a little"
me: "i need $10"
chris: "i have $4, here"
me: <looking in wallet> "i have $6! cool!"

anyway, there were people sitting there and the doors opened so we went in
the showroom and sat down and eventually found andrea and a shit load of
other people who eventually managed to piss me off (i like these people,
but they are a little TOO obsessed...this coming from me tells you how bad
they are), and after one of them, who just purchased a DAT recorder,
proudly told us how as soon as he gets some good shows is going to contact
'those bootleg companies in italy' to sell the tapes (scum of the earth),
i said, 'andrea, i'm going to go have a reading from karen. wanna come
with?'

anyway, she is just wonderful, the reading was (fortunately or
unfortunately) right on. chris and i walked away, andrea was still there
talking to her. i'd brought an envelope with andrea's copies of the
showbox pix in it, and it was sticking out of her purse... so on an
impulse i walk back over, grab the envelope, and put the pix on the table
in front of karen.
"oh my goodness, look at this!" she said.
so i told her that they were taken at the showbox show.
"i was at that show!" she said.
i know, i said.
so she looked at the pictures and just started talkign to us. she asked
if we went to the gorge, and we told her yes, and she starts telling me
this story about a friend of hers who was at the gorge show (she wasn't --
i was wrong) and who came home and told her about these birds that were
flying past the stage at one point...
(which is SO WEIRD because you guys KNOW that i mentioned the birds in my
review they were that incredible!)
so I told her that that did happen, that i wrote a review of the show and
that i mentioned the birds too!
<wow>
anyway, so she goes to give me the pictures back and on another impulse i
say, 'no, you can have these if you'd like' ;-)
she clasps the pix to her and says, 'oh, thank you! you know i have a
scrapbook, but i just don't keep it up to date...'
and she asked our names and shook our hands and talked some more, about
how after this week it's all over, and she was glad to hear that we
thought chris was happy at the gorge, they came home on monday so they got
to be home, they have one more week then time off and then off to
europe...

i dunno, maybe it's stupid, but it was just a really neat thing to me. i
wasn't going to go have the reading going, 'ohmygod, you're chris
cornell's mom!' and she is a very respected psychic in the area... but
still, you know, to me it was just so cool. my friend jeff from my office
who showed up later thought so too: "you just gave soundgarden pictures to
chris cornell's mom! cool!"

yeah, i guess so. ;-)

would we be willing to trust anyone? i think the problem here was that no
one was helping nothingman. when i did the shirts for the pj mailing list
it was different, because i was coordinating. we didn't vote on a design,
since it was just text, we voted on the text, voted on shirt colors,
someone else created the design, and about three people mailed them out
over a six week period to about 200 people.

i used to mail out a *daily* 'shirt update* to keep people informed. and,
once people mailed in their money, the parties involved didn't just
disappear from the list.

having said all that, i think the thing to do is make *transfers* and mail
them out. not shirts. investment is less.

personalllly, once i have time to work on my designs, i'm going to go to
kinko's and make a bunch of transfers and send the out to whoever wants
'em...

Hold the bucket, Caryn.. People did offer help... I know both Toni
and I extended our help and he didn't want it.. I think it was a
simple case of getting in over his head.. But he never asked or
accepted any help... The list was in the wrong in two ways.. First
the task should have been given to a person who either had done this
all before and knew what they were getting into (i.e., someone like
you). Secondly we should have know from Nothingman's notes that he
wasn't able to handle this project and he was having problems. I'm
just sorry I backed away from it so easily, I didn't want the list to
have to make more decision, they were having enough problems with
design and shirt color.. Justin you were right, I'm sorry I didn't
fight harder..

oh i know! i'm sorry! i should have made that clearer!!! i KNOW that you
and toni offered and he rejected it... i'm sorry... my brain is muddled.

i came in on the tail end of the shirt discussion and i know that
nothignman was extremely convincing in his ability to process the orders.
i don't know that i wouldn't have done the same thing....

> I didn't want the list to have to make more decision, they were having enough

but it wasn't up to only YOU to fight harder. i didn't know, for example,
that nothingman was only 17. not that age makes someone more or less
responsible, but i don't know if i would have trusted hundreds of dollars
to one 17 year old. if it was a 17 year old like the woman i worked with
on the pearl jam list, who made a living off of making and designing
tshirts, that would be a different thing.

the whole list is guilty, actually... and it's no wonder people didn't
want to say something when i read the criticisms of people who think we
should be fairer to nothingman. bite me already.

Mayor McCheese?? Do you still have Caryn and the Mayor's Plans A and B on
file? I think it's time to implement plan A, and i say post the damn
phone number to the ENTIRE list. it's obvious to me that nothingman sent
out a few shirts because he read that we were going to do something if
they didn't start going out.

and i recommend that seth, as list admin, contact nothingman's
postmaster/sysadmin and ask him if this bullshit about him being able to
read mail but not respond is true. tell him why. i bet you'll get an
answer.

anyway, apologies again jamie...

anyone would have the cojones (sp?) to pull another Nothingman again. I love
the idea of "Free Kim Thayil" shirts!! Heheheh... and Caryn's little
copyright mark right next to it. These will be collectors edition SOMMS
shirts! I say we do it!

>Have you heard the little tidbit out him sayin "Tonight I'm gonna'
>be puking sick...1/2 a gallon od JDs out your nose sick"

Umm... I made a wav of him saying that. He's quite the orator, huh? ;)

>Next we'll be hearing that he's left Susan and is shacking up
>with Jenny McCarthy (sorry Shroom).

Talk about hootchie extraordinare... I'm afraid I'd have to find him,
and hurt him if he did that. =)

>Or maybe he's trying to downplay his "Sex God" image. Or maybe he
>really thinks this is cool..... What gives, Chris?

Or maybe he was really going to be that sick. He did sound kinda drunk
while he was babbling between songs on that recording. Like when he was
introducing "Mind Riot." (same show). This is what he says: "SHUT THE FUCK
UP!! Sing this song with me, it's a pretty song. It's really pretty. Sing
this song with me, will you please? Sing it with me, it's pretty. I want
you to sing this song with me. I want you to sing this with me, 'cuz it's
really pretty. You stupid little fuckers, you drunk fuckers." {pause} "I'm
just kidding, you know. I kid. I love you as though you were my own kids."

Have any of you been so drunk, you've puked out your nose? Not a
recommended experience. But as to him chipping away at the respect... well,
he made the "puking out the nose" comment over two years ago. March 23rd,
1994. He's been like this for awhile. We just don't get to experience him
enough to get a good feel for what he's really like. Whatever that may be.

>Toni's house( ya'll come visit) My biscuits and gravy suck but I make
>a hell of a trip to the donut shop!! Hey I got a new veranda they could

>dodge the dog poop)

Yeah, all right!! Party at Toni's!! Heheheh... is your bathroom big
enough for me to corner Chris in? Ummm... never mind. Heheheh...

>He's this physically beautiful, intelligent, talented man who, night
>after night, ends up in front of thousands of screaming lunatics.
>What's he supposed to say?

Ummm... how about "I'm leaving my wife for Shroom and Dave Navarro.
We're moving to Alaska, and you're never going to hear from us again."
That'd be kinda cool. ;-) SORRY SUSAN!! Ummm... I wonder if she reads the
digest. I'd better watch myself, or else when Dena and I make our visit to
Seattle in October, she's going to have me banned from entering the state.

I think it would be really cool if local bands opened for SG in each city.
Here in the D.C. area, I suggest Sorry About Your Daughter. I first saw
them at the Paragon in College Park in 1993. They didn't have a whole lot
of original material back then, but they did some wicked Pearl Jam covers.
Now I think they have two albums out on Diesel Boy records, so between their
original stuff and a couple of covers they could do a pretty good set.

I'm sure most cities have a couple of kick-ass local bands that could do the
job. And it would be cool to see them get a break playing in front of an
audience like SG would attract.

chicken with my head cut off. (How's that for visual? Heheheh...)
I don't know if you guys will recall a certain post made awhile back by
this guy Alex (who seems to have mysteriously dropped off the face of the
internet). But he related this SG experience he had:
- ---------------------------------
I've been a SG fan for about 10 years now, and they have been my
favorite band almost from the start. I've got an amusing little SG incident
I witnessed to share with you. It was back in '87, I believe. SG was
playing one of the countless little dives that I frequented in my youth. I
don't think they were enjoying themselves that much on this particular night.
The crowd wasn't very receptive, and the band was getting razzed a bit.
Chris was very noticeably drunk. I was sitting at a table in the corner
right near what was probably the smallest stage known to man. I had expected
that they would quit the show in the middle, because I'd never seen a band
take that much abuse, and not give up. I think that's one of the things that
impressed me the most about them. Their determination. The crowd was hating
them, but they didn't care. In fact, they played two extra songs, just
because the crowd was giving them such a hard time. I thought it was great!
When they finished the last song, Chris said "Fuck you. Fuck you all very
much." Then he stumbled from the stage and made it to the corner of the bar
that I was sitting in (not ten feet from me) before spraying the floor with
puke. The bassist, Hiro, came over and helped him out of the bar, while the
others packed up their equipment. It was an interesting night. I had no
idea at the time that they would become so famous. I must say, though, there
has never been a band more deserving of it.
- --------------------------
I used to correspond with Alex, but when I went to write him one day...
his screen name was cancelled. ALEX, if you're still out there and reading
this... write me again, dammit!! I wanted to hear more SG stories!!!!
Anyway... there's another Chris puking element to add to the discussion.

pictures of the whole band naked!! HEY MATT!! BEN!! Get your cute little

again!! Run Shroom!! RUN!!" ~ Chris Cornell

Papa Cornell is the devout Catholic. Karen converted to
Catholicism in order to marry him (MISTAKE) and gleefully
     Unconverted when they divorced.

More on Karen...I think there is a general misunderstanding
of Karen. She is NOT a psychic. She's an intuitive reader
with expertise in numerology -- a powerful mix of science &
spirituality. She fills out a one page form based on one's
name, DOB and age using addition & subtraction. The hard
part comes with the interpretation (intuition). From the
numbers she'll conclude what one's purpose is in THIS life.
Karen unequivocally believes in past lives. She feels the
spirit returns to deal with unresolved issues. I sat with
her for a 1 1/2 reading two months ago -- she blew me away.

Well, isn't it true that you guys actually requested
that the Ramones, you
wanted the Ramones on the tour?

                     Lollapalooza (): . . . . Fri, Aug 2, 4:16PM
Yes, yes. That was our request.

                     Lollapalooza (): . . . . Fri, Aug 2, 4:16PM
Because we are big fans of the Ramones, we know they
are going to be
winding down pretty soon, just felt like this would
be a really good
opportunity for them to get exposed to, you know , a
lot of new fans.

with them at all?

Kim used to be in a Ramones cover band and we all
listened to them
growing up, we were influenced by them, they were
the originators,
they deserve the respect, you know?

                     Lollapalooza (): . . . . Fri, Aug 2, 4:17PM

some new friends
but, everyone is all on the different tours, and so
we all got stuff to look
forward to but I'm sure the very last night

Lollapalooza in '92?

                     Lollapalooza (): . . . . Fri, Aug 2, 4:18PM
That one seemed a little less strict as far as some
of the security and just
the organization was newer and fresher, it felt a
little bit more soulful the
first time that we did it. Whereas

this time it's way more business, we are like heavy
security presence at
all the gigs, we have been playing really weird
place s this time around,
like out in the middle of no where, a dirt field,
bunch of weird looking
                     kids, it's been a whole

The places we have played have been really
difficult. As far as the big
rock show it's been extremely difficult

pulled through,
everyone is doing the gig, but it's like the first

Could you talk a little bit about the new album? Just
about, you know, the

approached it in
maybe a different way than you had approach

Well, the main difference was that we produced it
ourselves. And that
can lend itself to, you know, a lot of different
sounds and
experimentation with trying to get sounds, so

wanted to have a very direct sounding record and not
spend too much
time on getting the perfect drum sound or guitar
sound and just try to
have the music be the main focus whereas sometimes

Well a lot of the tracks we didn't have fully
rehearsed, so it worked out
once we got in the studio so there was some time
arranging songs in the

Well, ray is the one Raza is the one who turned me
on to computers, he
has been showing cool stuff to check out on line.
For the most part I
think it's a really interesting way to get
information out there. Just
because it seems like there is no

rules and anyone can do whatever they want to a certain extent. So it
seems like, you know, it's not going to be stopped.
It's just going to
                     keep getting bigger and bigger

What do you think about, like right now already one can
listen to music in
realtime on the web, you know, RealAudio sound , it's
sort of a.m. radio
                  transistor kind of sound

But that can happen right now. Before too long we will
have high fidelity

Yeah. Some things are really slow right now to get
that stuff going. It
still seems like it has a long way to go, but it is
pretty cool you can you
can do that stuff. When I have experimented with it
and got video and
                     sawed I don't stuff, the

get better quality, but
the fact you can do it now is very impressive.

Is -- this sounds to me it's something Soundgarden is
paying attention to and
keeping an eye on it as it, you will kind of use it

Matt . . . which really isn't surprising, him being the online guy it seems

the Official! They even named you, Seth! And he mentioned reading our posts
. . . I wonder if he gets the digest . . . I wonder what his E-mail address
is . . . HI MATT! . . .

. . . I'll make this short, I only briefly looked at who else was there,
and I noticed Caryn, so after that Lolla review, I'm sure we can expect a
novel from her about this . . . it was too short! Just as they seemed to be
getting somewhere, it ended! And it didn't seem as if anyone got to ask
questions, it seemed like just the guy asking . . . did anybody succeed in
asking questions? I copied the thing into a text document just in case they
don't have transcripts, but they probably will . . . okay, I'll stop now . . .

P.S. Anybody know anything about this "Christy" song that Matt liked? Matt?
Would you care to shed some light? ;-)

looked really...bad? That was weird. I thought it was some guy with a kim
mask or something. That didnt look like him...oh well. Anyways the chat
thing was pretty short and i thought it sucked except for this part, check
this out:

ATN:How do you feel -- the on-line sort of world you guys there is
Soundgarden web site now

ATN: There is two An official one and a pretty cool unofficial one

Matt: Yeah, I prefer the unofficial one.

ATN:Seth

Matt: Yeah.

ATN: As soon as someone writes an article about you guys, that seems to be
up on that site

Matt: Yeah, he is very thorough in adulation for Soundgarden. His web
site is informative. The people that subscribe to his service are true
fans, I like to read what they say about us, it's pretty fun

ATN: So you go on line

Matt: I check it out, yeah

Thats pretty much the only worthwhile part of the whole thing IMO, and I quote
"I like to read what they say about us, it's pretty fun"
now THAT should be on a shirt!!

Great idea Greg,

Maybe "Jimmy Chicken Shack" another local group. Wouldn't it be great
if someone from the SOMMs list, band could open. Maybe "Foreshocks" -
Erin (still think of you as this handle). I know allot of us would
travel far to see her band open for SG.

I probly confuse the shit out of people with all the handles I use..
Foreshocks, champagne supernova (after the band teacher kevin champagne,
not the song), overfloater, never named (not to be confused with
nevernamed@aol.com), stolen prayers, unkind, foreshocks... bleh :) and
i'd love to open up for soundgarden, but my bands hardcore, and i dont
know if they'd go for it... growl... i want another band :) i want to
hell, i dunno... i find it interesting that people still think of me as
foreshocks though :) i like overfloater as a handle the best cause
that's the best song.. or so i think... well i'll be quiet now :)
