No big whoop, just a videotape compilation of SG shit.
Both PJStarr tapes (old HBB stuff, the GnR Pay-per-View
set, videos for JCP, Outshined, Spoonman, Rusty Cage,
My Wave, FoBD, Hands and Loud Love...and, oh yeah, BHS,
plus misc interview and award show stuff) plus Louder
than Live and the two songs from the SNL show and whatever
will fit from the Berkeley 94 show.

Well, they can't all be SG colored vinyl...:)

Usual rules apply.

Subject: album rankings

Well, it's been two months now since DOTU was released and im sure all of
your opinions on the cd have changed since it came out. I remember the album
ranking posts that appeared after the release, and I was thinking about what
the album rankings would be now. Im sure most people on the list dont want
to read post after post of:
"my album rankings are:
1)<name of cd>
2)<name of other cd>"
etc etc. So I was thinking if you want to submit your album rankings just
e-mail me at: rea47935@pegasus.cc.ucf.edu
and tell me your rankings. I will then soon afterwards post the result, a
combined album ranking made of everybody's posts, to the list. Therefore not
clogging up the list with endless ranking posts. I do ask that if youre
gonna send me your rankings that you at least have 4 of the CD's, otherwise
it wouldnt be fair.

you know youre obsessed with soundgarden if youre willing to compile
everybodys album rankings and then post statistics on it.

From: jsimpson@mail03.mitre.org (Jamesetta Simpson)

Visually stunning, it uses the camera as a paint brush and creates a
beautiful image. Colors, lines, correct composition, it's all there.
Nothing a third year art major couldn't do. For all it's prettiness,
there is nothing new to it, it's all been done before. All the band
members look good - so much for not wanting to look sexy.

The video making business has become very cookie cutter. They may be
sinking more money into them, but they are putting out the same old
ideas. Rock'n'Roll should be cutting edge, one step from going to
far. It should be the rebel that knows dying is part of the game, but
not today.

Don't get me wrong, the BiMH video is very nice, but it's just so
trendy, there was absolutely nothing to get your blood moving. I want
SG's music/videos to start fires in me. Wouldn't it be nice to see
"Ty Cobb" done with out changing the words. Maybe have Kim down a can
of Molson at the end and well it at the camera.

Well, this was probably mentioned a long time ago, but a few weeks ago my
brother was watching Free Willy 2 on HBO and there's this one scene where
the kid runs to his room and slams the door and on the back of his door is
a big SG poster. I'm pretty sure it was for BMF but I wasn't really paying
attention.. But didn't that movie come out in 94 or 95 or something? I'm
surprised they didn't use an SU poster.. Oh well... Maybe I'm reading too
much into a movie that had a poster as its one redeeming characteristic...

I've got a couple.

You know you're obsessed with Soundgarden when.....

you wake up and Burden in my hand is in your head

You insist on not wearing your new SG shirt to dinner, just because it might
get dirty(even though you can wash it)

You have your whole closet just filled with soundgarden shirts and jackets

You have every tour shirt from every concert they ever did

You start to quote lyrics to people (ex.  I'm hardheaded so fuck you all;
keep it off my wave.)

you start to learn the guitar, just incase Kim might twist his wrist, or
break a finger, so you can jump in and take his place.

ok, that's all for now!

You beg the list if they know how to get the fork necklace like Chris's?

you turn around and give them the WHOLE history, from 1984 to the present.

your little sister knows each one of the members by first name

your parents start liking them

your parents know each of the songs by heart

you start refering to yourself as Chrissy's mom, and kim's mom.(right
rachel?)

your conversation on your first date with a new guy starts out, "so, do you
like soundgarden?"

you post way to many obsessions that apply to you.

when you ask the question i'm about to ask now.....did anyone tape the Burden
video? If so, e-mail me about it. I want a copy for my soundgarden video
collection(that's another obsession!)

Anybody know immediate post-Lolla touring plans for the band?

my detroit-area friends say that the rumor is that metallica nixed a
detroit-area gig so they could come back through there on their solo tour

ok, here's my contribution...

- -after living with you for just 2 weeks, your 2 1/2 year old niece starts
carrying a book around with her everywhere telling anyone who will listen
that it's her Soundgarden book

- -you force your son to listen to Shroom's Rock Line call & earnestly explain
who Shroom is & just how significant & monumental that call was

- -you (after many beers) convince your sister & some friends that you really
do believe Chris Cornell is God

- -you purchase back up copies of Motorvision & Louder Than Live, because you
watch them every time you work out & have had nightmares about the tapes
wearing out & not being able to find any new copies

My sister supplied me with these - I don't see anything wrong with any of
them, but she seems to think they inidicate I have some kind of problem

The only thing is I'm not sure how I'll feel about the band now that they
have a new bassist. Justin Chancelor took over after Paul D'Amour left
last year. Their newest, Aenima, should be out 10/1/96.

As for touring together, there's already a rumor going that Primus and
Tool may tour later this year. Hmmm, there's another line-up I wouldn't
mind catching.

Subject: humble beginnings...

hey folks...

all this talk about the birthday of the list made me anxious for a
trip down memory lane, so i checked out the archive of "pre-digest"
postings from the early days of the list on the web page...

well, i discovered something that i honestly didn't know, but that i
consider very cool...

(note: i'm working in central standard time here, since that's what i
dwell in, y'know...)

seth mailed out the initial "welcome to the soundgarden mailing list!"
post at 9:18 a.m. on july 28, 1995. (THE BIRTH OF SOMMS!!! [sob!!!
sniff!!!])

here's the cool part...the first actual posting (subject:
"soundgarden! (of course!)" ) to the list came at 9:32 a.m. on the
same day, and it was posted by...ME!!! that's right,
grote be da man... >;-> incidentally, the next post was from ahmed
osman at 9:55, followed by moon druid at 10:33...there were actually
quite a few posts on the first day.

i really had no idea that i was the first post...i suppose that i came
into work at 9:30 and checked my e-mail right away, saw seth's message
and responded promptly like a good netiquette-junkie should...

anyway, what this means is that there's gonna be some changes around
here, people...from now on you will address correspondence to me as
"HIGH AND MIGHTY, MOST OMNISCIENT AND WISE GROTE, CREATOR OF ALL HE
SURVEYS INCLUDING THE FIRST POST TO THE MOST HIGHLY REVERED OF INTERNET
MAILING LISTS, SOMMS@MIT.EDU."

just kidding... :)

seriously, congrats to seth and each and every list member on making
this list, web page, and the entire community that we have going here
what it is today. as a lister who has been lingering since the
beginning, i can honestly say that everything about our whole little
family just keeps getting better...the list members are great,
contributions to our ever-growing sg network are informative and
humorous at the same time, and seth has proven to be one of the finest
listadmin's and web page gurus in the free world...

it's good to be a somm-ite... :)

later...

(this also reminds me that i haven't changed my sig file since i
joined the list...i've had that damn thing since january of 1995, so
luckily it fit nicely with my eventual entry into somms-land and i
haven't had to change it. oh well...since that quote stands as my fave
cornell-ism ever, i ain't changin' it 'til the neighbors complain...)

If I were Chris (and sometimes I wish I were) I would be thankful that
so many people who consider themselves to be close to the band thought
this much of me. The CC page is a really nice homage without all of
that embarassing gush that sometimes accompanys fan generated
